Backstreet is in the middle of a residential neighborhood, so it's easy to miss. And I couldn't help but feel I was walking into someone's house, which was a bit strange, and yet oddly charming.
I was a little surprised by the menu - only a handful of sandwiches, soups, and salads. And it seems a bit overpriced at first - $9 for a turkey sandwich? But you get a side with it (beans, coleslaw, or potato salad), plus unlimited goodies from the veggie bar (pasta salad, cucumbers & vinegar, pickles, etc.) Suddenly $9 seemed pretty reasonable.
There is seating available both inside and out. I recommend the patio. You can sit under the trees and umbrellas, order a bottle of wine and listen to the live music. Hard to beat that.
Backstreet is one of those shops that bring a small town feel to a bigger city. Their sandwiches are the BEST you'll ever have but in my opinion they are pretty darn good. The hubby and I like the roast beef on squaw bread with a little butter and extra au jus...yummy! Their baked beans are tasty and their veggies are always fresh. The service is great and we've always experienced really nice people. Ambience is absolutely amazing!!! If you've never been here you need to go!
I've been coming here for lunch for the past 7 years. I can always count on quick service - you line up to order but the line moves pretty quickly. I believe this place has been owned and operated by the same family for a very long time and has a loyal following - including me.
The guy who makes the sandwiches is a grump. You gotta know what you want to order before you get to him. The ladies are super sweet. I do admit the sandwiches are a little bit expensive. What I do is get the vegie plate for $3 and get the banana cream pie. You get all the fixin' but the sandwich, which isn't all the great anyways. But the patio is quaint and relaxing.
Pretty good sandwiches but a little pricey for what they offer. I think I like Simple Simon's better when it comes to good sandwiches. Nice scenery though, there is a nice patio you can eat on.
