If you enjoy getting your dance on with no worries, you're open-minded, and you love techno and house, this is the place for you. It's nothing short of fabulous in the dance area with smoke, colored lights, substantial seating and big video screens with a very large dance floor to accommodate those who like to get their groove on. The bathrooms were atrocious, but the people were fun, and when I fell flat on my face in high heels, strangers came to my aid and assured me that I still looked good.
Great drag shows round out this fun gay bar in Midtown. -

what can i say? i am a straight, asian female... basically the anti-thesis of the clientele here. BUT I STILL LOVE IT!
two stars off because friday nights are super lame... a total waste of ten bucks. and also because the drag shows sometimes get... well, draggy. and boring. they sometimes have guest performers, and they are awesome!
in fact, i think i'm backstreeting tonight :) -

GLBT nightclub with some fun drag shows and cheap drinks (they only sell beer and jello shots)... but the cover charge is WAY too expensive (15-20 bucks) and the dance music is years behind of any real nightclub scene in New York, DC, or wherever. Fun with friends, and probably the best GLBT dance club in town... but it could be so much better.

Backstreet is a integral part of the Memphis gay scene. Although it is a bit passed it's prime in my personal opinion, I still enjoy going here for a night of friends, drinking, and dancing. They recently finished a renovation that got rid of the dark room and expanded the hangout areas. The music is alright... I would call it gay house. Pop mixed to the same beat for every song. Saturday nights are definitely the time to go. Halloween and new years parties are usually good as well. Don't forget to bring your own liquor, because they do not sell it!
