The location is off the beaten path. The decor is slightly reminiscent of a Western Sizzler. But the food - Wow! This place has some seriously outstanding food.
Everything we had was very flavorful and well presented. Great soup, great salad, great appetizers. My steak was extremely good. I always judge a steak by the "Do I need A-1 or not?" test. I did not. It was perfectly cooked. My wife's tenderloin was beyond good. It was sublime. Couldn't tell you about the desserts because we were too stuffed to try any.
The service was fantastic. I would try to find our waiter again to make sure we sat in his section. His recommendations were spot on. We mentioned that we loved the croutons in the caesar salad (kind of like lightly fried grits) and he brought out a plate full of them for us to snack on until our steaks were ready. Nice touch.
If I lived in Austin and wanted a steak, I would bypass every steakhouse in the city (except the Hoffbrau) to come here. It is worth the trip.
It was an unexpectedly impressive dining experience. Smiley face and a star. -

Billy Gibbons turned me onto this place. The first thing he said when I told him I was moving to Austin was that I had to try the Backstage Steakhouse. The husband and wife who own the place used to tour with ZZ Top as the backstage caterers hence the name.
They have great musician memorabilia on the walls and the food is off the charts. In addition to the you guessed it Steak they serve pork, chicken and shrimp.
This is one of the few upscale dining places in this neck of woods - literally. I can't say it is worth the drive from S Austin; but, its not too far from the Backyard and the shopping plex that has ruined it or Hamilton Pool. So, if you find yourself in the area definitely check it out.
FYI
It is about 10 minutes west of 620/71.

Marvelous from start to finish! New to the area and not too impressed with the local eateries (they're great if you're into BBQ or Tacos), which I am, but geez, not everyday. My Steak was divine! Cooked to perfection... The decor could use some updating, but when dinner's so good, who cares.
Highly recommend this place! -

Sadly this place closed down. I was so sad and very upset that no one mentioned it the last time we were there. I will never have the yummy mushrooms again. Very sad indeed.

It may be a fur piece for some of you city dwellers, but you cant get a better steak dinner in the area. They have great fish and chicken meals too. They have a full bar and a nice deck out back to enjoy a pre-meal drink. I have eaten here at least 3-5 times a year for the last 7 years, the food and quality is consistent and excellent. Its a great special occasion dining experience and weekends I would recommend a reservation. It's worth the drive and atmosphere is laid back.

I had tried this place numerous times years ago and it was never very good. I've gone twice in recent months since moving to Spicewood, however, and the specials are fantastic (although I still feel their plain steaks are a little bland). The bartender also does a great job pouring tasty, strong drinks.

I discovered this restaurant a few years ago shortly after it opened. Quite possibly the best steak i have had in the Austin Metro area, and the other dishes are excellent too. A dimly lit, great place for that special date. Enjoy!

I haven't been here in a while, but every one of my past visits was one of the best restaurant experiences ever enjoyed in Austin (been here 30+ years). It's a little pricey, but worth every dime. The steaks are to die for. Go there on a nice spring/summer evening (preferably after sunset) and sit outside on their deck. You'll go home thinking you've been in another world!

What a pleasure to find this great place in the middle of nowhere! The service is great, drinks, great, food, great! GREAT GREAT GREAT! Plus the muscian pictures on the wall are charming and great conversation starters! :) If you want a steak head out to the Backstage! It's a drive but Angel's is just across the street for live music and drinks!
