My husband and I were traveling through Walla Walla, and what a pleasant surprise we found there. The food was very good, from the artisan bread to our entrees. Scallops for me with forbidden risotto - of course I had to have it! For my husband, the special of the evening: apple wood smoked pork chop with a demi glace - he finished commenting that it was the best pork dish he'd ever had. Our server was friendly and attentive to our needs, but not overbearing.
Only two minor flaws: young wines, not bad, just not able to stand up to the food, and, no music...but, oh yeah...it was a Monday night. I'm just glad they were open!
Overall, we were very happy with our experience, and we'll revisit on our next trip through. -

Six people, all extremely satisfied customers. Burgers, ribs, soup, salad, French fries.... Oh my goodness, so delicious. Quick and friendly staff! What more could you ask for? We'll definitely be back.

After 4.5 days in WW eating out every meal, I'd rate this tied for best with the Italian restaurant at the airport. I had the half bbq chicken. Great bbq sauce flavor, a little sweet (I prefer more bite, but it was good). The dijon mustard was superb on the roast potatoes, the butter they use with the bread just great. The vegetable side dish was really, really good. Cooked just the right amount with really flavorful herbs that were not overdone. Service superb (it was a slow Monday night). Dinner came quickly, which I liked. Definitely would go back. Everything from $11 to 30 entrees.

Walla Walla, WA
3 out of 4 liked their meal, but all thought the service was a bit unfriendly, younger and a bit snooty. Not sure why, but seemed like we got a cold shoulder. I do think BB has fallen a bit out of favor with those visiting because of the hit and miss service and the fact that other places in WW are being a bit more creative with their menu items. BB has a fairly stagnate and conservative menu, but keeping to the basics can work. I think for them to be a 4+ star, they need to polish the friendly factor and maybe offer some creative specials.

I visit Walla Walla often for work and Backstage Bistro has become one of my favorite restaurants.
I am usually sit at the bar. They have a wonderful menu, a new flat screen TV, a place to plug in a lap top, and fantastic service. The wine list is exceptional and features many local wines.
Bob the owner is so friendly and you can tell he loves what he does. You will often find him checking in on tables and offering great wine and food suggestions!
A must try after visiting a few local tasting rooms on Main St. -

I'm updating this to bring everyone sad news. I have just been advised that Bob no longer offers espresso at Backstage. That is very sad to me, because as I previously posted, it was the best coffee I've had.
Apparently, the espresso maker has been replaced with an area for preparing mixed drinks. Normally, mixed drinks give me reason to celebrate, however, it's going to take a lot of booze to get me past this depressing news.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Looked good, but when we got there, they just closed up at 2pm. They had a private function and were very rude about telling us they weren't going to be serving. No apologies, just a very rude wait staff telling us they were closed. Thanks.

Service great! My friend and I split some appetizers; which was plenty of food. The wine list was 3 times the size of the menu-both great. The food is that of anyother bistro- so I would give them and O for ordinary; but with a dash of flare.
The staff was really freindly and willing to talk to us Seattlelites about all the local events with great clarity and accuracy (this is hard to find).
Good little spot - I'd go back. -

Walla Walla, WA
I've enjoyed lunch here a number of times. The lunch menu features appetizers, salads, pasta and sandwiches. My spicy Asian salad was out of this world! The taste and presentation of the food is excellent, the atmosphere is classy and stylish, and the staff is friendly and professional. All you could want. The lunch and dinner menus, complete with prices, can be viewed on the bistro Website.
One evening a friend and I ventured into the bistro to enjoy a nice glass of wine. The staff's wine knowledge of the 250-300 selections (it claims to have) is what one would expect to find in the Walla Walla Valley. The live jazz ensemble--piano, bass and snare--was a wonderful way to wind up the day and has remained a very fond memory. -

Visiting Walla Walla for work, I stopped in Starbucks for my typical after-work espresso, and asked for a suggestion on dining... and the #1 selection by all of the baristas was Backstage Bistro.
The restaurant is pricey for Walla Walla, but the food is quite good. They have a good wine list, most of which is from the local wineries.
The restaurant is good for small groups (6 or less). The wait staff is typically over-worked, and on many occasions they only have one person working the entire restaurant.
Overall, if you're traveling through and looking for a good meal while also sampling the local wine, Backstage Bistro is a wise choice. -

Walla Walla, WA
Somewhere between the deep appreciation for the proper preparation of steaks and barbecue, a love of live music, and it being just as good for a big group as for a dinner for two, this place has lodged itself firmly in my short list for consistently tasty eats in downtown Walla Walla.

Enjoyable,
My family met up with my sister and her husband recently for an early (5pm) reservation on a Saturday evening. I had read a previous review for a restaurant across the street and they mentioned they would have rather gone here, but it was full.
We were almost the first dinner guests to arrive and had a choice of seating. The restaurant eventually filled while we were dining and so we were happy to have had reservations.
The waiter was superb! I didn't catch his name but he was very friendly without being fake. He was so attentive most of the time he had our glasses filled and plates gone before we even realized. His timing was great between allowing us some warm chatter, appetizers', salad, entrée, and dessert and coffee. We never felt rushed.
The food was very good. The only reason this wasn't a five star experience was the food. Not that there was anything wrong but it wasn't the best of any one particular item we have ever had. We started with the garlic prawns (very garlicky, not complaining just a fact), clams in a light sauce (my 7 year olds favorite) which had a bit of sand in them still, I think they could have used a few more minutes soaking first. The spinach salad with goat cheese was particularly delicious and I have always loved cranberries in my salad so this was a plus. I had the Wild Alaskan Salmon, very tasty! The others had the "Prime" Rib Steak, everyone was satisfied with the preparation of this, and the seasonal veggies were steamed/sautéed perfectly leaving a bit of crunchy and not cooking it to death. Dessert, was good but not homemade and definitely box prepared (chocolate Lava cake and apple something???) still good though. While an espresso would have made a great ending the coffee was still nice.
Oh, and as mentioned numerous times, they have an extensive wine list. The Seven Hills Riesling was a sweet and delicate beginning. -
