We live about a mile from this place and we are SO happy about it.
The service is amazing, the food choices are great (and for those of us in the area, their take-n-bake enchiladas are awesome!), and the decor is very wilderness-oriented. It definitely gets you in the mood to go on the river! There's not a lot of seating, but we've never had a problem walking in.
I've tried almost everything on the menu, but can't seem to get away from their fish tacos! They're amazing! -

The day following a night of intense partying, my appetite seemed to have vanished into thin air, but I knew I should consume something anyway. Driving down the road from Morrison's Lodge, I desperately searched for a friendly looking place that might have light bites available. After my friend and I popped into a "deli" on Galice Road (which was really a quick-e-mart with mountains of fried everything), we settled on the Backroad Grill. I was truly skeptical -- it looks very plain on the outside and the only scent wafting from the restaurant was that of grilled onions. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE grilled onions, but with a queasy tummy, I was almost certain a light meal would be out of the question here.
::buzzer sounds:: Wrong!
We walked in and were graciously greeted by the staff . They didn't seem to mind that I had a Gatorade bottle in hand to treat my dehydratedness. Upon perusing the menu, I found something innocuous enough for a late lunch/snack: bruschetta. The food arrived and it was as good as I had hoped. The tomato/basil blend was refreshing and slightly tart. As a bonus, there was a nice helping of fresh mozzarella on the plate, too. My friend's portobello mushroom sandwich was probably just as tasty, but at that moment in time I couldn't really bring myself to even really look at it. (Did I also mention what an awful headache I had, too?)
The dining room is small, but cozy, and the servers are super friendly. In keeping with the outdoorsy feel of, well, everything in Southern Oregon, Planet Earth was playing on the TVs in the restaurant. -

Good food. And very nice (I'm going to use a word I use often) decor. One of those unique restaurants I recommend people go to while visiting.
Be aware... they are open seasonally... -

Grants Pass, OR
Lots of care went into the decor of this place - check out their website for detail (http://www.backroadgri...)...everything had a bear/forest trees theme to it. I liked the elegant silverware that was used, the way they decorated our dinner plates, and the pine wood tables and chairs.
You don't have to dress up to go there - shorts / jeans OK, but it does have an elegant feel to it.
Service was excellent - very impressive. The food was good - not extraordinary, but good. I had coconut prawns (first time ever) and really liked them....I am a coconut fan though :)
Definitely a good place (and popular too!) to check out if you are (literally) in that neck of the woods. -

Really good food. Great service. Makes you feel like they are glad you came in. They could use more seating. Although sitting outside last night was a pleasure.

Merlin, OR
This restaurant is fantastic. I feel it's one of the best restaurants within 100 miles of Grants Pass. On Fridays, they have amazing ribs that they cook for 14 hours. Fall off the bone goodness.
Great beef dishes, the chicken pot pie is huge, as is the Chicken fried steak. The Lisa's Salad is wonderful. Add the Ahi tuna to it.
You're missing out if you skip this place. Well worth the detour off of I-5.
