ahhhhhh Bend
we took 2 cups of french press and got a # of ethipoian washed beans. they comp a coffee when you buy beans which is great. we sat outside on the little kids bench and there is plenty of bike parking.
one of the baristas got quite snappy when my buddy wanted soy milk for his coffee, i don't think they liked that too much! apparently you are supposed to request soy milk when you order, otherwise its half/half FYI
the swanky hipsters here were judging me for riding my bike(with gears) and helmet!!! while in my pajama pants.
i just smile knowing we can disagree on bikes,-as long as we agree on good coffee.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Loved the flavor options and the pastries were yummy. Love the garage door concept in design.

I was 1200 miles into my bicycle tour of the American continents when I stopped in here and got a macchiato that certainly placed in the top three if it wasn't the best espresso on my trip so far, and I've tasted plenty so far in Seattle and Portland, as well as well as The Dalles, Hood River, Olympia, Medford and Ashland. It was smooth, with the milk and foam infused and not scooped. It wasn't the best espresso I've ever had, only because there was still an ever so slight bitterness, but much less so than most quality espressos.
I can't vouch for consistency, but of the one that I had, I give it five stars. -

As others have pointed out, this is the best coffee in Bend! There is no lack of good coffee in Central Oregon, but when I'm really wanting a rich, flavorful coffee with beautiful little hand-designed pictures on top... I know where to go!
The staff is alway friendly and hard-working too! It has a great seating area to read, work or just spend time with friends. -

Artisans at work.
One of the things that impressed me most on my latest visit to Bend was the ever expanding variety of local coffee roasters. In the past I've gotten my fix at Thump Coffee (serving Portland's Stumptown beans), Strictly Organic Coffee Co. or Townshend's for tea. But this trip introduced me to Backporch, Lone Pine and 11 Roasters.
There is a kind of a cool mutual support system going on where several local coffee shops and bakeries sell each others products. So I went to Backporch first and they serve Sparrow Bakery pastries. Then when I visited Sparrow Bakery for breakfast the next day, they serve Backporch and Lone Pine coffee... you get the picture.
Bend has consistently impressed me with people with a zest for life who create businesses that allow them to live in this beautiful part of our state. This cafe certainly gives off the 'coffee temple' vibe, complete with signs reminding you to be patient since it takes awhile to craft a quality beverage.
So if you are from Portland, and are homesick for Barista, you will feel perfectly at home here. Only the patrons are much more laid back. -

I love this place. I don't know why it's listed twice in Yelp, but I already posted a review.

Delish coffee - whether it's an americano or a latte be prepared to savor the creamy quality of their espresso drinks. Bonus - the ocean roll pastry - seasoned with cardamom!

I needed a caffeine fix while visiting Bend. The ambiance, though small, was nice, doors open to the outside, letting sun and a light breeze in, while some relaxing music played on the speakers. The staff was pleasant and efficient. My mocha was delicious!

They are one of the best coffee spots in Central Oregon. They have a great setting to sit down and have a cup of espresso and study or hang out. Very recommended!! Smooth! Yum! Must-try!

Backporch Coffee Roasters.
Simple, delicious, super good quality, and plenty of seating.
Definitely worth going to as the coffee is super fresh, and the barista's are extremely well trained. My favorite thing about Backporch is their brewed coffee is french pressed, which makes it much better then drip.
I haven't been to the new location yet since I moved away, but I hear it's stellar.
Free Wi-Fi, lots of tables, and great baked goods.
Go there-You'll be glad. -

After coming here every morning for 8 days, in my pajames, for multiple cups of coffee while I stayed in Bend, I'm surprised that the sales person was so shocked when I loaded 10 lbs of coffee on her counter to take home to California with me. Apparently that doesn't happen very often. This place offered the perfect cup of coffee for me: bold, perfectly roasted with no hints of acidity, and my own personal heaven, always french pressed. The quality of the beans here is the best I've ever had. I am a HUGE fan.

I checked this spot out on 2 occasions last week. After reading the reviews on yelp, I was looking forward to the maple bacon donut along with the coffee. My first trip I had a cappuccino and my maple bacon donut was sold out. On my next visit the maple bacon is sold out again. Oh well, get there early if you want a maple bacon donut. The coffee was fresh and the atmosphere was friendly and full of life. My friend who has become a coffee snob gave this place and the coffee rave reviews.

Backporch is simply incredible! The entire staff is passionate about the craft, lives espresso, and loves to "talk coffee". If you order an espresso, chances are that you will get not just an "acceptable" or even "good" shot, but the best possible shot that they can pull on the machine that day. It may mean they toss 1,2, or even 3 shots before getting one that is as close to perfect as they can pull, but it is worth the wait. In addition (a rarity in this town), the baristas know the espresso inside and out, and are constantly sipping shots, smelling the shots, tweaking the espresso parameters (and above all, the blend and roast) to improve the quality. This attention to detail and group of passionate baristats are what you would expect to see in Portland at CoffeeHouse NW, Albina Press, Fresh Pot, or Barista, but still takes you by surprise to see it here in Bend. The espresso blend is always evolving and improving, depending on what beans are in season. It is great to get an espresso that may have a flowery finish this week, be heavy on citrus and chocolate notes next month, and move onto sweet cake and cherry notes the following month.
Emphasis is on smaller drinks, traditionally prepared that allow the skill and interpretation of the roaster to come through. Very high quality green beans are brought in, and the roasting skill that Dave possesses is superb. Roasting is an art at Backporch, everything is done in small batches. They bring in a Cup of Excellence coffee from time to time, which is always worth the price of admission. Also, their beans are very, very affordable: what you would expect to pay at a lesser roaster, and downright affordable for a coffee of this quality.
This isn't really the place to go for a big, syrupy/sugar laden drink: there are plenty of places in town where you can get a "Carmel Macchiato" or "Maple Syrup/mint Julep Latte". The focus here is on the coffee and preparing perfect milk to match that espresso. Ordering a big, sugary drink just covers up the hard work that went into growing, preparing, roasting, brewing, and serving the coffee.
They also have the best French Press in town (no ugly, acidic drip coffee here) and an always-superb tasting, 10oz, $1.00 in house mug. Plus, Sparrow baked goods are served.
They are still a bit "under the radar" so to speak, as I have never seen them advertise. It seems as if they prefer to let the quality of the product speak for itself. They are committed to building a true coffee culture from the bottom up, introducing people to the art of the perfectly prepared espresso or cappuccino. -

Bend, OR
Seriously, moving back to Bend from SE Portland and working as a Barista there I became a extremly picky coffee drinker. I only drink americanos, coffee or a double espresso. So making my rounds around Bend I came across a few yummy coffee shops!! But Backporch is my FAV. First off they French press there coffee (which is one of the few ways to extract wonderful flavor IMO). Second it's a block away from my house. The Baristas are friendly and actually know what the he'll there doing. Beans always taste fresh and I love drooling over the maple bacon doughnut. Yum-

Bend, OR
Coffee roasters that are incredibly passionate about their product, service and ethics. Smooth, beautiful full flavored coffee that speaks for itself. No need to consider fancy drinks. The decaf espresso blend is top notch if you're avoiding caffeine. They offer outstanding hot chai tea and mochas with the option of in-house made flavored syrups such as cardamom and lavender. You can purchase freshly roasted beans - whole or ground to your specs to brew at home. Air pots and toddys (cold brew) are also available with advanced notice. Decadent pastries are available at the counter brought in from two local companies: Sparrow Bakery, Tula (coming soon), baked., Village Bakery and Richard's Donuts. The staff is knowledgeable and strive to provide the best service possible. The service is not 'fast' as they are crafting your perfect beverage - absolutely worth the wait. My favorite coffee in Bend.

Best coffee in Bend! I just love their french press coffees. It's a really smart move on their part to carry the popular pastries from Sparrow Bakery in town. I'm hooked!
