Review from B. L.
New Orleans, LA
After a few years of living here, I've found that this is the single only place in New Orleans that you can get a healthy, well-priced meal. It is my dream to open a salad restaurant uptown. 1000 places to eat and not one of them can you walk out of not wanting to go home and take a nap.
Back to the Garden has fresh and delicious food (Outstanding salads, sandwiches, and soups), great service, and a strange sterile ambiance that is pure WTF New Orleans. Plus, parking is very easy and I've never had to wait long
Really really good. Five stars as it peerless. I mean that literally, there are no other salad restaurants in this city. -

Vegetarian options, yes. Questionable kitchen? Absolutely. Saw a guy on the phone. Same guy tapped his knife against the trash to get some avocado off of it. Not clean, don't know how this place avoids the axe from the health department.

Healthy, vegetarian options. I work nearby and eat here at least twice a week. If the staff doesn't see me for a while, they will bring me my favorite food. Healthy portions and quick service. Always fresh.

An absolute gem in the deep fried waste land that New Orleans tends to appear after days of craving foods that actually provide nutritional value. Food here is very well priced. The interior is dated but honestly I was just so darn happy to order healthy food I just did not care. I ordered the Hummus sandwich on Pita bread with a side of fruit salad and a Banana and Honey shake. All was delicious, the sandwich was topped up with a tad of chilli sauce and ruled. The shake was brilliant. My companion ordered the salad with Egg and sunflower seeds and was not disappointed. Thank you Back to the Garden!

I'M SO ANGRY THAT I DIDN'T DISCOVER THIS PLACE EARLIER! Cheap and so many vegetarian-friendly options. I got an avocado, egg salad, cheese, sprouts, and tomato sandwich on 7-grain bread as well as a strawberry smoothie for $9.42. It was delicious. I will be back. Often.

Another regular on my lunch spot rotation. The grilled chicken sandwich (with tomatoes and sprouts on wheat) is my usual, and as an inveterate creature of habit, I have rarely strayed from that order. I encourage you to visit Back to the Garden -- pick a sunny afternoon when you can't stand eating at your desk again -- and find your own "usual." You'll be glad you did.

This review is for their deliveries only. I've been having their food delivered the last 4 years I've been working in the CBD. I've never actually been in their restaurant.
They offer healthy lunch choices for a good price. It's not the "typical" New Orleans foods. It actually reminds me more of back in California. Some of their sandwiches have avocado and sprouts...yum!
My favorite things to order are: any of the sandwiches or melts, the turkey burger, turkey tacos, stuffed avocado salad and the veggie stir-fry.
The one thing I do not care for there is their corn chips that they give you on the side with the sandwiches. I don't know what kind they are, but they always taste stale.
**Get your order in early for lunch, as they can get very busy with deliveries.Listed in: Lunchtime in the CBD

I love their Turkey Burgers, Turkey Chili, Garden Salads etc. The owner works behind the register daily. They fax menus to your job and if you live/work in the CBD area, they will deliver. I think this place is well needed in New Orleans, it should be well deserved and frequented if we want to keep it open.
This is a great place for vegans, vegetarians, pescetarians, flexetarians etc etc etcListed in: Turkey Burger Dat

New Orleans, LA
This place has been around for years and it is consistently wonderful. Fresh food, healthy ingredients, home-made tasty dressings, reasonable prices, fast service. The owner is always there at the counter, and you can see he has a loyal, well-treated, and helpful staff with low turnover. I only wish there was a Back to the Garden Uptown!

Back to the Garden is my favorite lunch spot. They have great salads (spinach salad is my favorite) and great turkey burgers and veggie chili. My husband always gets the special and loves it. Great fresh food! It's worth the wait, but here's a tip: call ahead and order and they have the food ready when you get there.

We order food for the office from here all the time. The food is healthy but doesn't taste bad. They offer a variety of foods from chicken salad salads to peanut butter and jelly in peta bread. They also offer soups and smoothies. They deliver right to our office floor.

Their food is delicious, but their customer service is not. If you are having food delivered and paying cash, be aware that their delivery guys do NOT carry change unless you tell them when you order that you'll need change. However, they don't tell you this when you order (nor do they give you a total for your order unless you ask for it) and you are then expected to either go search out change, send back the meal, or overpay since finding change in the CBD without making another purchase is impossible.
Obviously, this happened to me and prompted this review. When I called back to confirm that the delivery guy doesn't carry change and to tell them that this is something customers need to know when placing their order, I was pretty rudely told that it's too unsafe for the delivery guy to carry even 10 ones in change when he's making 50-60 deliveries a day (although mine was clearly his only delivery today). This should've been relayed much nicer and also prior to the delivery even going out. -

Great sandwich place tucked away on Howard Ave. Quick and best priced food around.
