We were only in town for a few days to get our son set up in a new apartment quickly. From the minute we walked into the store we felt comfortable.

Robert, the manager at Back to Bed, is a fabulous salesman. We explained what we wanted and what our price range was and he showed us the available options. He is very friendly while still being a total professional.

We never felt pressured, and in a very short time walked out of the store satisfied customers.

The bed was delivered the next day, set up promptly and we couldn't haven been happier with the whole experience.

Robert was awesome.  He helped us find the perfect bed.  Even better was when it came time for delivery we were given a window of 9am to 1pm...the delivery drivers showed up @ 830am.  We have never had anything delivered that actually showed up on time let alone a 1/2 hour early.  Thanks Back to Bed & Robert!!!

So far so good! Mattress is being delivered tomorrow, so I can't speak for the actual product yet (a Beautyrest Beaumont King) but Robert and the other woman who works there are got a us a great price and definitely understood our needs.

We looked at all models, then communicated our price point, and they worked with us to find the right mattress for us.  Newsflash that there's "pressure" - it's durable goods retail.  Nothing new there, and any time I walk into a store like that you have be ready for it.

I'm happy to give this store 5 stars and I'd recommend anyone going here.

Originally got suckered into the store because of Robert's personable and knowledgeable nature. Bought my bed a year and a half ago, and it started dipping down 6 months in. Started getting horrible back pain a couple of months later and was told I had to go IN to the store to set up a replacement mattress.

Since I travel a lot, couldn't get into the store for 3 more months. It took them over a month to process my warrantied new mattress, they upgraded me for free.

That was 10 weeks ago, and the mattress has dipped down the same way the original one has. Now I'm asking for a refund, which is "impossible".

Considering taking them to small claims court, as all they want to do is sell me a new bed or replace the mattress with another new one. BS!

P.S. I'm a 140 lb female who is gone one week per month - never jump or even sit on it! Do NOT get your bed here.

If I could give this place zero stars I would.  The key reason is Robert  the sales manager.

I already rolled my eyes at this guy because he was way to salesy for my taste, but my boyfriend seemed to like him and a mattress we looked at.  I wasn't convinced and wanted to visit another store to look at comperable  matresses.  Of COURSE Robert threw the infamous sales BS that the sale was ending that day, but we could hold the mattress if we put down a deposit.  Before doing so, I confirmed that we would get our money back if we decided not to move forward within the next 24 hours.

Long story short we went with another mattress, and visited the store to get our deposit back way within the 24 hour time range.  It's a month later, and after several calls we finally escalated to the corporate office to get our money back.  Robert never credited me my money even though he claimed he did and kept trying to give us the run-around.  Patrons should be cautious.

FYI - The mattress store I decided to go with was from Sleep City which is right up the street. Rick from Sleep City actually gave us a much better deal, a MUCH less hassling experience and I love the mattress.

Yes, I put this review under Active Life.

Please be sure to share your actual bedroom behaviors with your mattress salesman.

Scott was professional and understanding, and even knew what the problem was when I called him to discuss the squeek in the bed I just got.

    Great selection very reasonable prices.

I had an OK experience here.  It was definitely better than the horrible experience I had at American Mattress a few years ago.

The boyfriend and I were mattress shopping, and we ended up here after not finding anything we liked at Sleep City down the street.  We found one we liked, negotiated the price down, and left pretty happy.  Free delivery is always a plus.

Fast forward to delivery, which went off without a hitch.  The mattress was quite a bit more firm than the one we tried in the store, but we figured we could break it in.  We go to sleep that night, and I wake up the next day with a back that hurt so much that I had to call in sick to work.  I spent most of the day on the couch on a heating pad with ibuprofen.  Ugh.

I called Back to Bed to ask about an exchange.  I was told that I should give it more time, it will break in, etc.  I was also told there is a $200 fee to do an exchange!  Granted, it's my fault for not asking when we bought, but pretty much every mattress store I've ever been to lets you do a free exchange, so it didn't cross my mind that someone wouldn't.

So I gave it another night.  And I had the exact same crippling pain the next day.  Defeated, I went back up to do the exchange.  They tried like mad to talk me out of it, which I thought was weird.  I understand that you might have some soreness when you first sleep on a new mattress, but I don't think the pain is usually so bad that you can't go to work.

Anyways, the exchange went fine once they realized I was not going to be talked out of it. We found one we really liked that was cheaper than the first one we got, so they credited the difference to our $200 fee, which was nice as most places won't do that.  There's also a re-delivery fee that they cut in half.  We really like our new mattress, so I suppose this is a happy ending.

Bottom line - if you're really set on a mattress, this isn't a bad place to buy one.  The staff is nice enough and they'll haggle with you.  But if you're worried you will want to make an exchange, I'd go elsewhere to a place that will let you do one for free - your good deal can be gone pretty quickly with all the exchange and redelivery fees they charge here!

Worst mattress store ever. Went in here because I saw an ad with some pretty good deals. Talked to Robert, one of the sales men from corporate (supposedly), he would not stop talking and kept showing us mattresses that were double our price range which we told him we COULD NOT go over. Kept showing us mattresses that we told him we did not like, and did not stop asking us pointless questions.

After we found one we liked he told us it was $600 OVER our budget. Are you kidding me? We even told him to tell us the prices before we sat down on them. But no, he decided to keep stringing us along. He then tells us he will give us a deal if we tell all our friends about this place and how wonderful it, and the service is. Well here you go Robert, here is your yelp review. One star. Don't go here, walk down the street and go to Sleep City and talk to Rick. and mention yelp.

I had a good experience here.

I came to this store, bonus check in tow, bound and determined to find something that would NOT poke me with springs as I slept!

I walked in, was pleasantly greated by the salesman, and gave him my price range.  I definitely was expecting this to be a hassle.

The salesman looked at me, asked me in which position I slept, and suggested two beds: one that was WELL under my price range and one that was in the middle.

I got a free frame and delivery...it was delivered on schedule, adn they took my old, torturous bed with 'em when they left.

Because I now sleep like a rock every night and my back no longer hurts, this store gets five stars!

    Hassle-free shopping, I love it!

Wow, the guy who works here is very nice.  I kinda feel bad for the guy since he's all alone in there and starved for conversation.

But the real reason for the five stars is the bed.  I now hate sleeping in other beds because I'm so spoiled.  I've never had trouble sleeping in hotels and such, but now I do.  I miss my snuggly bed!  It has also made my bedroom into the best place to read or do a crossword.

It's a mattress store.  No big deal, right?  Yeah, well, probably, but I just slept the last two nights in one of their Simmons' Dreambed mattresses, and holy cow, all I want to do is get back home to lay in bed.  *Drools* Ahhh pillow top ...

Wife and I went in there looking for a mattress for our full size bed in our second bedroom.  In addition to the great sale they had going on, the manager there, a guy named Corey, was an awfully laid back Texan, who didn't try to make the hard sell.  Corey, I appreciate that.

In addition to the full size set, we decided to get one for ourselves, and man am I a happy camper.

The delivery is usually next day (except on Sundays), but be careful of their time "ranges" as they called the day of and were there a half hour early.  No sweat though, we just called when we got home and they were back to deliver the bed in 5 minutes.

The mattress itself has a 10 year/100,000 dream warranty, so I have every plan on returning that sucker in 3,651 days and getting a new model.  Yahoo to long returns and decent prices!

Overall, definitely worth a look see as, according to Corey, he researches the market and sets his prices 10% cheaper than the "other guys".  Who knows if that was just a line, but overall, getting two brand new mattress sets for under $1300 had me pretty happy.

Call ahead and ask for Matt Frick, the assistant manager.

After going to four other mattress stores, Matt got me the mattress I wanted, the deal I wanted, the delivery time (next day) I wanted, and wrapped it up in under 5 minutes.  No joke, the guy is amazing.

I'm blown away by the quality of the mattress, and the delivery guys came right on time.  I can't imagine going to any competitor in the area (or out of the area, as I had gone to IKEA who decided to NOT deliver at all) when Back to Bed and Matt Frick are right here in Lincoln Park.

Why can't I leave 6 stars?  The guy, and the company, are both life and back savers.

All I can say is used car salesman. Robert tries to charm you but is just so over the top with his high pressure sales tactics. I walked in and spent a good half hour in the store... He negotiated with me and tried to make me feel like i was getting a deal, but it wasn't any better than the deal I got from Rick at Sleep City.

Save yourself the feeling of being wheeled and dealed - just go somewhere else.

Rarely I would give 5 stars but  when a bedding store can provide friendly customer service, affordable selection options and swift delivery - it deserves highest ratings!

I was looking for a reasonable full size bed set for my guest room and after visiting various places I settled with the Back To Bed store in Lincoln Park.  The store manager Robert was very helpful and was willing to match the price at other stores and finally I was able to get a great mattress and frame set close to my budget.  I did get a great deal along with better customer service which other stores completely lacked.  What I liked about this store as compared with others is that the store manager was not too pushy, knowledgeable and friendly.

Within 24 hours I had a new bed and mattress in my home!  I agree with Lesley that the delivery was as swift as it can be - within 10 minutes they assembled everything.

Overall, I had a great experience and have already  recommended the Lincoln Park location to couple of my friends who are on the hunt for a new bed.

I had an amazing experience at Back to Bed from start to finish. The store manager, Scott, took his time to help me find the perfect bed. He explained the difference between styles and was very knowledgeable about the different products in the store. To top it all off, Scott took my budget into consideration and gave me a great deal on the bed I ended up choosing. I checked out other mattress stores first, and I found their salespeople to be pushy, uninformed about their products, and out to sell the most expensive bed in the store. My experience at Back to Bed was the complete opposite, and I'll continue to refer friends here for the customer service alone!

The delivery was problem free as well. The delivery service dropped the bed off right on time - no need to sit around for 4 hours waiting for them. Even with the 4 flight climb up to my apartment, they were in and out in a flash, which was great.

Finally, the mattress itself (a Haynes Plush) is amazing. Scott definitely did a great job helping me find the right mattress. Even on the first night, I fell right asleep and I woke up well rested. No breaking-in period necessary.

Everything about my Back to Bed experience was great - I definitely recommend you go there next time you're looking for a new mattress!

After months of searching online and around town we finally decided to get our bed from this place. We ended up finding the cheapest deal online and brought that in with us. The guy happily figured out a way to price match it for us which was awesome. I'm pretty sure we ended up with a better deal from this place than if we bought online.

Since buying a mattress is just about the most confusing thing I've ever done it was nice that Back to Bed worked hard to help us figure out the differences between their mattresses and like every other stores since they all name them different things. We'd been to all the other bed stores in the area but this sales guy was the most knowledgeable and he bargained with us to a ridiculous price that Sleep City couldn't beat.

My boyfriend and I are pretty tough bargainers and went into this place well informed and to this day I'm still shocked at the steal we got our bed for. I highly recommend going here for your mattress purchase, just make sure you are informed and don't be afraid to bargain em down to next to cost plus a few extras. ;)

We walked into Back to Bed to just test drive a few mattresses and found ourselves fully-immersed into a whole mattress experience.  Our salesperson, Robert, was personable (but not in a weird salesy way) and more knowledgeable about mattresses (their differences, benefits, shortcomings) than any one person should be.  More importantly, he was honest and fair.  We purchased the Beauty Rest Anniversary mattress with a 4 1/2" foundation AND, even better, delivery was FREE.

When there was a delivery mix-up -- a 9" foundation was delivered instead of a 4 1/2" foundation -- Robert was responsive and immediately addressed the problem; we had a new foundation within 24-hours.

We are thrilled with our mattress set and have both commented that it is the best mattress either one of us has ever had.

This place is as sketchy and unethical as it gets - think used car salesman meets douchebag mattress salesman.  Sure you may have good sales people in that they can close the deal and pretend to really care but when they are feeding customers false information and pricing on purpose, that's a major problem. We needed a mattress for our guest bedroom and I wanted something decent but not too pricey - Think $450 or less for a full size mattress. I just wanted to get the task over and done with - normally we do lots of research and take our time - I just didn't have it in me that night. The salesman, Robert (and also strore manager) steers us to their in-house mattress brand and shows us a bed that is quote "so brand new doesn't even have the sales tags on it yet". He says he can give it to us at a rock bottom price of $400 plus tax and delivery. We haggle down the delivery fee to $0 and we're happy and done. Total he says is $400 plus whatever the tax would be. My husband finalizes the transaction and we go on our merry way. A couple days later, i was just curious - I don't know, something told me look things over. I grabbed our paperwork and looked at it - It said $549 was the final price. I was confused because I had thought all along we got this for the $450 or less I had for my budget. So I go online and found our mattress alright. For almost  $200 LESS than what he quoted and charged us. And somehow what he quoted us was the best deal we were gonna get??...right. And when I sorted the results online from newest to oldest..hmm. The mattress we got appeared dead last of all the results - meaning not brand new. Interesting - he gave us the wrong price and the mattress is in fact not a brand new model. I don't know what kind of business they think they are trying to run, but it's dishonest. Someone told me once, you should never lie or try to hide things because they'll always get figured out. And it is so true.
My husband called to dispute the charge and he said they knew right away what he was talking about..they tried the whole well your price doesn't include delivery however if you go to their website, it says deliveries are free within a certain area (inclusive of ours) In the end they matched their own price they had online so fine. But I will never step foot in that place again and frankly am tempted to go the BBB on them.
SHAME ON YOU ROBERT & BACK TO BED. I don't know how you wake up everyday and feel good about what you do. I take part of the blame for not doing the normal research but I expected for these people to be honest.

I'm writing this review on behalf of my parents who needed to find a place to buy new mattresses. I came across good reviews of this Back to Bed, and its sale offers in the newspaper, and suggested the place to my parents. My parents were pleased with the place and ended up making a nice purchase.

Delivery time came and the movers got the two mattresses in within 10 minutes! And I didn't have to lift a finger to help, unlike years ago when I had to try to push a full sized mattress up a flight of stairs. Oof.

However, my parents didn't realize that they ordered a larger mattress than the bed frame so we gave Back to Bed a call about getting a larger frame.

The salesperson in charge of my parents' order said that because my parents were such great customers and had purchased two mattresses, they gave my parents the larger bed frame for free!

It's okay but I wouldn't shop here.  Their Simmons inventory can be found cheaper elsewhere and the house brand is garbage.

They offer warranties but A) you will never use it and B) they will never honor it.  Warranty + mattress = gimmick.

Last straw was when manager (Robert) gave me the "this is our LAST day I can offer this price" bullsh*t.

Instead, I went to Chicago Discount Mattress and got a Simmons Beautyrest for LESS than what Robert wanted to charge me for the house brand with ZERO pressure or sales gimmicks.

Robert is the nicest guy and I was so happy to work with him when buying my bed.  He's overall just really friendly, and not pushy.  PLUS, he knows his stuff.  I saw him help other people who were ahead of me in line, asking what exactly their needs were via back problems or comfort levels.  He was then able to direct them to something that would fit their needs for each situation.

Not only that, but even though there were multiple people in the store, he made sure to be constantly helping everyone.  A great multi-tasker!

I got a great deal on my bed and I love it!  Thanks Rob!

I stopped in on a day off looking to get a bed as I recently relocated to the Lakeview/Wrigleyville area. Robert was assisting another customer at the time and quickly pointed out a few mattresses to test out while he finished with them. I narrowed it down to a couple that I liked before he made his way back over. We discussed the options that I had narrowed it down to and Robert gave me a heck of a deal. Back to Bed also was very flexible with delivery date and time so that I was able to get the set delivered on my next day off. The delivery itself was very prompt and the delivery guys called a half hour in advance to be sure I would be home. Installation was included in the price. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend to others.

This is my experience looking for a mattress set on 05/24/11. First, I visited American Mattress on Diversey/Clark.  As soon as I walked in the overzealous salesman started asking me questions. What type of bed are you looking for and how much do you want to spend. They want to know so they can overcharge you.  And I told him I didn't have a bed because I had to dispose of it (bed bugs). Eventually, I told him but I knew I wasn't going to buy a bed because he wouldn't let me shop. My first mistake was making Back to Bed on Diversey my last stop for the night. It was almost closing (I wasn't feeling too well and had a long day) and the manager Robert helped me. Just like American Mattress he started asking what type of bed do you currently own and how much do you plan to spend. He pounced when I told him that I was sleeping on my futon. These guys are slick including the bed companies. I was interested in the Simmons Beautyrest Classic Hanlon Full Plush set. I told Robert I wanted to spend $800 (big mistake) so he offered the bed for a little over $700. It was listed for $949 and the original price was $1,189. I found the exact bed $50 cheaper on their website. The sales ad listed it on sale for $1,189 with "an extra 20% off." If the bed is originally priced at $1,189 then how can it be on sale.

These companies are ripping us off. For example, Back to Bed sells Simmons and Bedding Expert sells Sealy while American Mattress sells Serta. There's no way the consumer can compare prices.  I tried to research this great deal I supposedly received and only found the exact mattress set at a Massachusetts furniture store for $649. I was searching the internet for two days and even Sears have different models then the other mattress companies. Just imagine if every car dealership sold different models. How would you ever get a deal and that's exactly what the mattress companies are doing. They do not have to worry about beating their competitor's prices because how can you compare a Simmons and Sealy. We are not experts on beds like Robert and the other guys. Those guys also bad mouth each other and I think it's unnecessary.

Throughout my entire ordeal with Robert he kept saying how a great deal I was receiving. Of course, he would say that because he knew I wanted to spend $800 so he priced it below $800. Another red flag was when he asked me to go to Yahoo, Google, and Yelp to write about the great deal he gave me. To make matters worse, he told me not to mention the price. How can consumers compare prices if we don't share our experiences. Robert also blatantly lied because I wanted to check out Bedding Experts.  He told me there's no need because we own them as well (the following day I contacted them and of course Back to Bed doesn't own them).  I couldn't believe he lied to me like I was an idiot. I did purchase the mattress set but I was smart enough to cancel the delivery so I could receive a full refund. His story just didn't add up because he mentioned the other mattress places include free delivery in the cost. But he made it seem like he was giving me a deal with the free delivery but it was in their sales ad. They were also offering a free mattress protector if you purchased a Beautyrest. You probably guessed that he didn't include it with my mattress set.  I forgot about it until I arrived home. When I contacted Robert on May 27, 2011 he threatened to charge me when I asked for a refund because I canceled the same day.  I informed him that if his company didn't have the policy of no refund if the mattress set is delivered then the consumer wouldn't have to. Finally, I told him that the invoice does not state they need a 24 hour cancellation. I would not recommend this place. Make sure you use a credit card for any large purchase because you can always let them handle a company like Back to Bed.

Can anyone explain how they know they received a great deal if you can't compare apples to apples?

Update: I found the Simmons Hanlon Plush Full  for $499 on sale at a Dillard's online advertisement. Remember I got a great deal over $700. The sale might be expired as of today but it let's you see how much I was overcharged.

I so rarely experience excellent service anywhere anymore, but this place was great.  Scott, the manager explained all the bed differences and did not try and sell me the priciest one.  He really tried to help me pick the right bed for what I knew I liked.  Got it the next day, right on time and even got a friendly follow-up call from the manager to ensure my satisfaction.  Would recommend to everyone!

DO NOT PURCHASE A MATTRESS HERE.  Not only did we have a difficult time with the staff when attempting to exchange when my husband wasn't adjusting well to a softer mattress, but fast forward 5 months, and...

...we just had an exterminator visit our home to rid our bed of BED BUGS, which he thinks came in our box spring when we received it, based on the bugs location.  Absolutely disgusting!!  Do not shop here!

Buyer beware!  These people are awful.  I got suckered in to buying a high-end Simmons Beautyrest Black mattress + box that was over $2000.  Mattress started to dip after 90 days and is too hard, despite being a "super plush" pillow top. And It hurts my hips and my boyfriend's shoulder--we can't even sleep on it together!  They will do nothing for me because it's a "comfort " issue.  Oh, and LOL--love how every salesperson will tell you,"Oh, I have/just bought that bed and I love it."  Seriously??  Can you say Glen Gary Glen Ross???  Ick.  Don't go here unless you want to make a costly mistake like I did.

The guy who works there, Heday, gave me an awesome deal on a futon and mattress for my bed!  Definitely go there if you need good quality furnishings!

Great service, nice employees.  Delivery was awesome and as expected.  No hard sells here, which was nice for a change.

the assistant store manager, matt (you'll know him coz he has a white eyebrow) is a f*ckin rockstar. he's very helpful. will match any competitor price and probably throw in a good deal as well. i bought a bed from him after looking at american mattress, sleep city, bedding experts, and several online stores. (jay is also pretty chill)

the reason i didnt mark it as 5/5 is because the store manager (name start with an R?) is a little condescending (probably without even realizing it)... almost made me turn away from buying a bed there...

i highly recommend going there and if you quote competitors they'll match it mos def. (tell em v recommended them ;)

I found them very rude and not helpful at all.  This was the third Back to Bed I had gone to because I liked their beds but I found the service horrible so I told myself I wouldn't buy from pushy rude sales people.

It's an okay place. Not very ooh and ahhh for me. I give them credit for having a few gems in the place.

I purchased my mattress here and was very happy with both the product and the level of service. I worked with the store manager Robert who was very helpful in finding me the type of mattress that I needed. I would definitely recommend this store

Kinda pushy sales staff, overpriced mattreses, generic chain crap. Poor selection. Go to Sleep City down the street for a truly great deal.

I told them everything about my sleep habits and back issues and took their advice and the mattress was bad.   Then the so called experts changed their tune and said I should have bought a different mattress.  I ended up losing FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS in additional charges for the mattress exchange.

We went in to browse, the salesperson was initially friendly.  But when we told him that we did not want to buy that day, he became pushy and almost hostile.  Had to leave, ended up getting a better deal at Sleep City anyway.

Matt, the assistant manager is the best. After a nasty experience with Ikea straight-up not delivering my furniture and never calling to tell me, I needed to find a bed. Matt was very helpful, not pushy, and very accommodating. Best bed I've ever had!

We purchased our mattress here and have been very happy. We got a great price. We loved our sales rep. He was knowledgeable, patient, and not pushy.   I am/was skeptical of the mattress business, so I just wanted a middle of the road mattress for a good price. That is what we got and I have yet to have a single back problem!
