I found Dr. Anthony when looking for a massage therapist for my boyfriend. I have visited quite a few Chiropractors in the area and never really loved any of them.....that is until I found Dr. Anthony. His office is easy to find, there is always parking and his hours are fantastic! I was very impressed the first day I saw him, I did not have to wait, he took the time to listen and talk with me. His bedside manor is fantastic. He also accepts my insurance!
This past Friday I woke up with the worst neck pain I have ever felt. I figured I slept wrong and it would get better. I was wrong. I called Dr Anthony and left a message for him Saturday morning. He called right back and was able to get me in for an adjustment that morning.
I can honestly say that I feel better every time I leave his office.
I would recommend him to anyone looking for a caring, professional chiropractor. He is just fantastic. -

Maria = Goddess.
I felt like = a Princess.
I make fun of this dude whose answer to most things are "Supahfantastic" (e.g. how are you?) but that is how I felt after a deep tissue massage with MARIA. I was referred to her and highly recommend her to you!
I got really good vibes from the room too; and every terry cloth to touch my person was so soft and warm, I feel like asking her to redo my room the same. Her technique is undeniably top-notch, and my experience was prolly enhanced by the fact that my body responded well to her touches ;) I felt bigger when I left, in all direction. And the best part about it is that the effects of the massage lasted for like 2 days. That's never happened before. I can't wait to see her again.
Other pluses of the area: close proximity to 101 and Caltrain (SM stop). Plenty of parking (esp later at night; prolly not during the day). La Cumbre, Pancho Villa, Peet's, a donut shop, and Talbots are all within 3-5 blocks radius. Her hours are great for the working peeps. And reasonable at $65/hr.Listed in: Dance, Dance, DANCE!

I sprained my lower back last year and thanks to fellow yelpers, I found Dr. Anthony. He fixed my back after a couple of visits and made sure my spine is aligned. Now that my back is fine, I go back and pay him a visit everytime I return to the bay (I recently moved down to Southern California) just to get my back aligned and everything straightened up.
Another amazing addition to this clinic is MARIA! She is the massage therapist at Dr. Anthony's office and she just brings me to heaven everytime. Her room feels more like a spa than a clinic, and her skills is definitely at the clinical level! She doesn't just stroke you here and there and you walk out as if nothing had happened. She really finds the kinks and the knots and try to work them out! I LOVE HER!
She charges $60 per hour. Dr. Anthony's visits are $45, but I rememer the first visit+consultation costs a bit more.
Dr. Anthony and Maria = my lower back savior!!!! -

If there were another 20 stars up there, I would click them all. Dr. Anthony came to my rescue last week while I was on business travel in San Mateo. I was very skeptical of finding a doctor on the other side of the country, but he had so many positive reviews on Yelp, I decided to call him.
I had a terrible, long, uncomfortable flight from DC to Cali, and lifted a very heavy suitcase in my hotel room, wrenching my back and causing severe pain and a headache. I went to him after two days of agony, and I felt much better after the first visit. I went back three days later, and flew home that day pain-free.
Dr. Anthony is thorough, caring, gentle, and very professional. He saw me at my appointment time, and took his time to learn what was bothering me. He has exceptional bedside manner. I recommended him to a coworker who also injured his back, and he echoed my sentiments. This doctor is the best. I just wish I could convince him to move to Maryland!!!
Go see Dr. Anthony if you have back pain. He will help you. Tell him a grateful Marylander sent you. :o) -

Gosh, I feel like I went to a different office than everyone on here! I visited Dr. Anthony because of ongoing back issues. I have Kaiser insurance. He spent a considerable amount of time complaining about how little Kaiser reimburses him. He did do a thorough interview with me, but the adjustment was fast, and rough. I saw him two times after that; each time I walked out less than 10 minutes after I walked in. Rub rub, crack, pop, bye. After the third visit, my back started to hurt worse than before, and I decided not to come back. I guess the longer visit are for those folks who can pay out of pocket or have different insurance.

I have been a patient of Dr. Anthony's for a few years already and absolutely love him. He is incredible and preforms his magic on my neck and shoulders which seems to be my biggest area of need. However, he always ask me how I am feeling and if I feel a little unbalanced, well, he corrects, cracks, snaps and adjust. :0)
Once you walk into his office you will feel his energy and his passion for what he does and you actually end up making a friend before you walk out. Can you imagine what he could do for you? If you are looking for a chiropractor call Dr. Anthony and you will not be disappointed. -

Dr. Anthony is a life savor. I would have never ever gone for a bone breaker...but Anthony is top flight. He fixed a problem I never knew I had. I took his advice and worked on the weak spots in my back. At first it was a once a week thing, now I go back every few months to get a small twist here or there.

I went to see Dr. Anthony this morning and my back and shoulders feel great! I had some muscle tension and back stiffness that resulted from a lifting strain. He went through a thorough review of my medical history and as well as a point by point investigation of my current discomfort and a short time later I walked out feeling 100% better. I couldn't be happier.

Back In Shape is wonder place that offers natural therapy through Chiropractic, Massage, and Acupuncture. I am a big proponent of preventative health maintenance. I highly recommend Dr. Anthony he is professional and really fun to chat with, caring and really wants you to heal and be well. He is passionate about his work, and it shows.Weather you have chronic pain or a new injury Back In Shape's combined treatment plan is very effective in alleviating pain and correcting problems throughout the whole body. They have a Holistic Herbalist / Acupuncturist on site to help with pain management and preventive care. Conveniently located in Down Town San Mateo.

I've been going to Dr. Anthony's for about 3 months. I hyper-extended my back in jiu jitsu and hurt my shoulder from a combination of jiu jitsu and my labor-heavy job After therapy, first from 3 times a week, gradually working down to once every other week, I can confirm that my lower back is in better shape than ever! My shoulder is still a work in progress, since it is a long-time injury in such a complex area, but it is easily in a better way now than 3 months ago.
Dr. Anthony is super friendly and very personable, and he really wants you to get better. I've been to chiropractors that get you in and get you out before you know what's going on, but that's not the case with Dr. Anthony. He'll take the time to talk to you and treat you the best he can, and I always feel that I'm getting the most from every visit. Highest recommendation! -

I didn't feel the adjustment was good enough. Nothing bad. Just didn't feel like it was done completely. I've been to enough chiropractors to know what it feels when it feels right.

Maria the massage therapist that works out of this office is WONDERFUL. She has a great energy & her massages are one of the best I've ever had. She's reasonably priced & it's worth every cent. Buy a package of massages from her today - you won't be sorry!

Dr. Anthony is a really great guy. Found him off of yelp and he was everything people said he was. Right off the back he told me that after a few visits if it was not helping then there was no need to come back. That really says alot for me when a Dr. is not trying to keep you there unless you need to. I kept at it for about two months until I had little improvement although my sessions were very relaxing and provided short term relief. I will be making visits from time to time.

I don't have experience with other chiropractors, but Dr. Anthony is definitely a 5-star practitioner! He's extremely professional, accommodating, and personable. Within a couple of months, he helped me identify and correct some minor problems in my spine alignment. Now my back doesn't hurt when I play golf! :) Thanks, Dr. Anthony!

After ignoring back pain related to pregnancy and childbirth for 10 months, I woke up on a Saturday morning immobilized, found Dr. Anthony and despite already having a busy day, he worked me in and gave me instant relief. He listened to me describe the problem, did a quick assessment and knew exactly what I needed. In 30 minutes, my pain was significantly reduced and I will be happily returning for follow-ups as I'm sure he will be able to return my back to its pre-baby health. Dr. Anthony is a kind and thorough listener with a gift for healing and I'm glad I found him!

I recently moved from San Francisco and went looking for a chiropractor. After visits in different Millbrae and San Mateo offices I found Dr. Anthony. I have had some on-going lower back and neck issues with headaches for years. Even after my first visit I felt much better. I know longer have neck pain or headaches. Additionally, the lower back problem I've had that no other chiropractor was able to fix - he fixed! Parking is a cinch and his offices are very clean and professional (more than I can say for some of the other chiropractors I visited). Dr. Anthony has a great personality and is always punctual and thorough. I never have to wait and he never rushes his treatments. In addition to all of this, he has a lot of experience working on pregnant women (I am one such woman). Over the last month he has been able to reduce some of the common aches and pains associated with pregnancy. Go see him!

Affordable, Effective, and Easy Parking. In canvasing Yelp Reviews of Chiropractors in the mid-Peninsula, I feel Dr. Anthony is the best. He accepts insurance; he's gentle yet effective, and there is plenty of parking near his office. Thanks for the great recommendation!

I used to go to a chiropractor regularly when I lived in SoCal. Dr. Anthony is the only other doctor that I trust now with my back pains. He has the machine that I like...the ones that attach to your back and sends small waves of shocks through it....sounds painful, haha, but it really isnt. It's a wierd feeling at first but it helps the muscles relax and prep you for the adjustments. Seriously, a chiropractic visit feels like you just got a massage...so relaxing!

I have been a patient of Dr. Anthony for two years now. When I first started going I had chronic back, shoulder and neck pain. Since I have been getting Chiropractic treatment, I feel like my back and mussle pains have improved substantially. Dr. Anthony is a great doctor! With Dr. Anthony's chiropratic techniques my energy levels have increase. pain has decreased and I am feeling so good again. He is an awesome Dr. Also, a thanks to Maria Richardson who is an incredible massage therapist. She is the best! It's nice to be able to get both treatments at the same place. I am so happy to be able to both services at Back In Shape.

I have had to visit all three professionals at Back in Shape. In November 2008 I started experiencing daily throbbing in my arms and hands, it would wake me up in the night and the lack of sleep was getting to me. I shamefully went six months before seeing anyone for it, to tell you the truth everyone was telling me to see a neurologist and the potential costs were a HUGE deterrent. I visited Maria first, not knowing what the issue was, but hoping that a therapeutic massage would relieve the pain and problem. She assessed the issue, wasted no more time and said I shouldn't be seeing her I needed an Acupuncturist. She directed me to her colleague Xibin Liang. I was apprehensive about acupuncture but Dr. Liang is professional and personable. After my third treatment I was a completely different person. The throbbing in my arms fully stopped. It was the best sleep I've had in nine months. NINE MONTHS!! If you have chronic pain, GO!!
I've also been able to see Dr. Anthony for an old back/tailbone injury and he's an awesome doctor. SO friendly, so smart and gives it to you straight. His treatments have helped alleviate pain due to a poor ergonomic work style, but he's also shown me the proper support accessories so that poor ergonomics are a thing of the past.
These three professionals really put your faith back in the health and body care fields. They are not out to get your money, they are out to make people feel great all the time. It was words to my ears when Maria was horrified that I had lived with the chronic arm pain for more than six hours let alone six months and said she knew her colleagues would solve my problems. -

although i would say that i did get better after visiting dr. anthony
but i was not happy with the way things were handled. Prior to my appointment i confirmed several times with the doctor if he was in network with my insurance company. I went over all the expense details with the doctor prior to my visit and even during my visit before the treatment started. I visited with my husband so he was also there at that time. But when the time came for billing, we found that the insurance was covering only 50% and on enquiring the doctor said that the insurance does not cover everything and they have a maximum etc. i believed him at that time, but when i called the insurance they told me that they covered only 50% as he is out of network. Also he was billing me 100$ for every visit, when i had clearly asked him and he told me that he charges some 40-45$ per visit, then he said that the electric therapy is not covered in it, and we had clearly communicated to him to give therapy only for what was covered.
In the end, he discounted all the fees, and finally took only what was due, but i felt that this could have been handled better. And i am writing this review just in case someone else also had such an experience.
Otherwise this website only has glowing reviews for this clinic. I dont know if i am the only one who had a forgetful experience.
