I was reticent about stopping by a barbecue place in Vermont, having recently toured many Kansas city traditional barbecue places such as Arthur Bryant's etc... But it was getting cold and we had run out of daylight anyways...

That said I was very pleasantly surprised, the meat is barbecued right there, and it's fall off the bone tender as they say, we had a rack of ribs, and the pulled pork sandwich, both were pretty good, and the pulled pork was tangy just the way I like it , take it from someone who just toured the KC bbq scene...
We paid around 28$ per person including tip, for which we had a sandwich each and a full rack of ribs and beer for three people. The portions were filling.

They carry local beers from right up the road, but also beer from another small independent brewery, dogfish head. To me, the fact that they carry such an independent small brand on tap says attention to detail, it says that the manager(s) actively research what they have to offer, and that's the sort of place that will keep me coming back every time I'm in the area... It's an impression I often get in Vermont; that the people there put thought in what they do.

I will also add that the setting is very cosy, giving the impression of a somewhat cluttered tavern, which I like...

I absolutely recommend this place to anyone who likes good barbecue, and would like to sample Vermont know-how...

The baby back ribs at Back Behind are good enough to plunge the country into a second Civil War. You ain't gonna get better than these fall-off-the-bone racks this side of the Mason-Dixon line, and any righteous Rebel with a rifle who finds this place sittin' at the foot of the slopes of Killington will no doubt feel duty-bound to protect the honor of the Confederate States.

And I'll second the motion of the lovely and obviously spot-on Miss Heather in the review above. The pulled pork comes from that same smokehouse (a decomissioned railroad car at the other end of the Back Behind's parking lot) and provides a stellar sidebar to the aforementioned ribs. I won't leave the Killington area unless there's a pulled pork sandwich from BB sittin' on my dashboard for the ride home.

I'm not your source for any info on the remainder of the menu.. With those ribs in play, I see no reason to venture any further down the carte de maison, folks. Go grab that apres-ski wack o' wibs, kids!!!!

Even though I'll probably never be back here - I had to write a review for 2 reasons:

1) For the first time ever, I ate escargot.  It was out of shell swimming in buttery, winey, garlicy sauce with cheese and tomato.  I actually liked it considering that they are dark grey and gross looking.  I guess this proves that everything is good with garlic.

2) I got pulled pork w/ sauce for dinner and it was good!  Like really really good, like North Carolina good - for real
