How do I begin to enumerate the many ways that Wendy Richardson has helped me?

I'm not supposed to be typing too much because of a current injury so I have to be brief, but suffice it to say that Wendy has worked her magic on me for the following conditions:

Carpal tunnel syndrome 8 years ago.

Sciatica 4 years ago.

Injuries from a recent car accident.

(Yes, I know, I'm a real Calamity Jane.)

Not only is Wendy patient, kind, and a great listener, she is absolutely excellent at her chosen profession - she's a natural healer at heart, I think. I wouldn't even consider going to anyone else.

Wendy Richardson of Back and Body Care rescued me from a horrible pinched nerve situation.  I had three different sites of nerve compression, and Wendy gently worked her physical therapy magic on all three distinct areas (it was tricky, since she had to be careful not to aggravate one area while working on another).  With Wendy's help, I had a complete recovery, in record time--life without nerve pain is truly a wonderful thing!  Wendy also taught me exercises to prevent future injuries.  Now I know why the person who referred me to Wendy was so incredibly enthusiastic about her!

As a bonus, Wendy's office is conveniently located, just up from the 16th & Mission BART station.

Wendy Richardson is a physical therapist who has eased my pain and collaborated with me on solutions to prevent future injuries.  She is a great educator about body awareness, mechanics and movement.

I offered to write a testimonial for Wendy not only because she has helped me out tremendously with my repetitive strain and pain issues, but because she has also guided me towards better body mechanics and body awareness in my everyday activities.  Whether on the computer, using my smartphone or driving, Wendy provides valuable advice on how to do these activities in a sustainable way.  I've seen other physical therapists as well as massage therapists, chiropractors and acupuncturists.  While all of these treatments and practitioners were beneficial, what makes Wendy different is that she focuses not just on healing the injury, but also on preventative care through better body alignment and movement.  She educates as well as treats, and is a wealth of knowledge about the body.

I have had repetitive strain and pain issues for years (neck pain and tendinitis of the arm due from computer use, past history of shoulder injury and car whiplash, slight scoliosis), and for the first time I am seeing real progress.  Why?  Because sessions with Wendy are not just stop-gap measures, but real learning experiences where I gain insight on how to listen to what my body is telling me.  Since beginning physical therapy with Wendy, I have begun to understand when my body signals me that it needs a break, or some ice, or a bit of stretching, or strengthening.  Before, I had begun to restrict more and more of the activities I could engage in, as so many things caused me pain.  Wendy taught me not to think in such binary terms - that rather than make things off-limits, focus on building up strength and coordination by practicing the challenging movements with moderation and awareness.

Wendy is also really great with advice on how to make your work and life set-up more ergonomic - even your car!  She's really good at figuring out what little tweaks to make to get furniture, computer appliances and the like to be in the range of one's physical comfort and ability.  And that's helped me not just take for granted  my surroundings, but try to be cognizant of and  visualize how to customize the physical environment to my specific needs.

I think it can hard to work on these issues, as the world is not very ergonomic and people cannot see your pain.  Wendy understand and empathizes with this, and uses real-world solutions to help you progress and overcome physical challenges.  Her rates are fair too.  I highly recommend her.

About a year ago I injured my shoulder doing pushups. I suffered for a long time in pain with restricted mobility. My orthopedist told me that surgery was not a good option and recommended physical therapy.  I was skeptical that physical therapy would help my condition, but Wendy proved me wrong. It's clear that her experience helped her diagnose and treat my injury because she picked up on a number of "clues" in our sessions that I thought were trivial, but helped her customize my treatment. Turns out that the stretching and exercise regimen she prescribed, along with her in-office treatments did the trick. I'm back to full mobility without any pain and can get back to all the physical activities I love including bike riding and archery, which used to leave my shoulder fatigued and sore.  To top it off, my health insurance covered the majority of the costs. Wendy is attentive, considerate, and knows what she's doing. Thanks Wendy!
