Corned beef hash. Get the entree that comes with this. It is a must if you are going here. I saw other dishes walking through the restaurant--everything looked good.
GREAT service although our server looked like he just woke up wearing basketball shirts and a white tee.
I wish I got the mini version of the corned beef hash dish because they do give a lot of food. Keep this in mind when ordering. The downtown area where Babs is located looks pretty nice too since it's by the water. Poached eggs!
WTF can I say! I have never, ever, ever, ever had Corned Beef Hash like this before!!! Had corned beef hash w/poached eggs and fried rice. Yes, fried rice damnit! That's the kicker in this breakfast is that I ordered it w/ fried rice as suggested by a friend. Nice job My!!!
The corned beef was made from a straight brisket. You rarely get that! I never have. Perfectly moist inside while the outer parts we're just kinda toasted like. A bit to much butter on my toast but that's an easy fix.
Waitress was prompt and checked on me a few times. Food was also fayst!
I went 20 mins. Outta my way to get here and it was 100% worth the drive from Benicia!!!
I loved it so much I'm writing this review from Babs right now!!!
Bab's has yet to let us down... home corned beef hash home run. I think that's all we order when we come here. Had a day date w/ the hubs and it was as usual, delightful, on a blisteringly hot heat-wave day.
Service was great! She was attentive, friendly, and helpful. Food is solid, greasy-spoon FAB breakfast fare. Yay! for fried rice, we're Asian... ;p (Pictures speak for themselves.)
We love it here still. Of course we'll back.

Great fresh ground roasted coffee. Bab's is known for their corn beef hash, home potatoes (get'em w/… Read more »
This place is great for home made corn beef hash! I can share it with my 2 kids and substitute the toast for a pancake! There's always a wait but it's worth it!
Definitely made sometime to make out a review for this place. Located along the Suisun marina waterfront this is a place to definitely check out if you're in the area.
Please note that I'm reviewing on breakfast only because that's what I usual have when I'm out with a friend who introduced me to this place.
Breakfast is by far the meal I have a tendency to not care about when I'm out. (maybe because I've had so many mediocre breakfasts at the chain diners) but after hearing good things about the breakfast here I decide to give it a shot.
What a good choice I made. They have pretty good choices when it comes down to the breakfast menu and it's so hard to decide. Since the few times I've been there I've become quite stuck on their corned beef hash with a side of potatoes with a garnish of green onions. Ooh!! A medley of textures--the crunchiness of the hash sides, the meatiness of the corned beef and the tender cubes cuts of potatoes make it such a delish dish. Can't beat that and you can request the way you want it made (breakfast and all) Gotta love that!!
They also have a good cup of coffee that comes with free refills and the waiter we had was always prompt on refilling. Now that's good service.
Service can be a hit or mess but the food, to me, makes up for it. I highly recommend for you hungry folks out there. Good filling portions at pretty decent prices. Check it out for yourself. Enjoy!!
As others have said, this is a great diner. The corned beef hash really is that good. A great combination of moist corned beef and crunchy potatoes. I got a sausage omelet that was three big eggs and fried rice instead of potatoes. The rice probably had another two eggs in it. The toast was buttery goodness. They should provide pepper grinders full of Lipitor. I took half of it home for lunch.
The service was friendly and they kept us topped up with coffee and iced tea without our asking. There was an empty table when we got to Bab's at 10am on a Thursday, but only one and there were people waiting throughout our meal. Bab's is about 50 minutes from where I live in Oakland, so I won't be a regular, but I'll be back.
I really struggled with my rating for Bab's, I was really looking forward to eating there again b/c it had been such a long time. The food just wasn't as good as I remembered it.
4 of us met up on a Saturday at 10am. Moderately packed, with about a 10 minute wait. I ordered an ice tea and a spinach, tomato and cheese omelet with fried rice on the side. The omelet was ok, I didn't think it had much flavor. A little on the small side for a 3 egg omelet. The fried rice was ok, too many green onions and scallions. Don't get me wrong, green onions are delish, but this was overboard.
Total came out to $35 before tip, which I thought was pretty good for the 4 of us.
Overall I think I like Sandy's better, but maybe I just need to order something different next time. I will definitely have to give Bab's another go sometime.
Corned beef hash is the breakfast of titans. When done right, it's salty, crunchy and is a perfect ratio of corned beef to potatoes. Babs done it right. And the choice of fried rice on the side? Genius. Very few diners plan for Asians with a propensity to eat rice for breakfast. But Babs did. I had mine with sliced potatoes, cheddar cheese and eggs over hard and Pru characteristically went for the fried rice. We also sampled their chili burger on whole wheat toast which is basically an oxymoron on a plate. It was wickedly decadent and sinfully delicious with seasoned fries.
Vanessa waited on us and she was moved so fast I thought she was on roller skates. Great service, tasty food served against a backdrop of the Suisun waterfront. We'll definitely be back.
Everytime I think about eating out for breakfast, I instantly crave Bab's. The mom-and-pop diner atmosphere makes for a great beginning to any day. I've tried many of their menu items, but now I know I want the corned beef hash before I even get there. It's the best I've ever had! The French toast there is also very good. I got it with my corned beef hash meal one time, and the combination was so good that I don't think I said a word to my friends until I had finished. Unfortunately, it is about 40 minutes away from Davis, but definitely worth the trip every month or so.
Coca Cola decor. Mom n Pop establishment right on the Suisun waterfront. Great place to eat. Good service with good suggestions if you're not familiar with the menu. It's a madhouse at weekend brunch. It's a beloved, busy, place. Expect to wait during the popular hours. It's worth the wait. It is a diner, after all, so take your heartburn pill if you're on one.
I forgot about the beauty of Bab's after not being here in seven years. The wait for a Sunday brunch was killer and the lottery system with the waiting numbers threw me and two of my best friends for a loop - one minute number 44 is called, then 2, then 13! We had no idea when we would be called. Despite the hiccup with the wait, the impression I got this past visit was a lot better than my unforgettable first experience. Anyway, I ordered the smaller portioned breakfast (I think it was Chris' special) but it was very filling and flavorful. The coffee was better than what I drink at work and plenty of refills and creamers to go around. There's never seemed to be that many tables for the crowd that turns out on weekends so prepare to walk around the marina while you wait.
We'd go here after church every now and then...this is what a diner should be like. Their food is comforting and filling, not to mention tasty! You'll see Babs or her sister behind the counter helping out too. I love their corned beef...anything, it's fresh and flaky, not all ground up like some other places.
My only disappointment is that this place is so popular! On a busy Sunday, it can take a long time to get seated. At least there's the waterfront there to walk around. I also wish they stay open longer, but hey, I'll get up early to eat here!
I came into Babs on a cold wet and dreary Sunday morning. It was pretty busy, but guess what. FREE COFFEE while you wait! Sure enough if you're not super picky or in a huge group you will get seated pretty quickly. My dining companion and I had two seats together at the counter. I must say, I have never had a corned beef has as good as it is here. It was not from a can, it was home made meat, flakey and everything. Dear Babs, I really enjoy your corned beef Hash..the best in my life..ever...really. I am sad though that your biscuits for the biscuits and gravy are too big, too dry, and not enough gravy on them. It is a bit pricey as well but, I will come back again to you though. Thanks for the fond memories!
I came here with my brother on a Saturday morning after a fishing trip with a huge appetite. The place was pretty busy so we had to wait about 10 minutes to get a table. It had a very cozy feel to it and a pretty view of the marina. I ordered the rod special which consisted of corned beef hash, potatoes, poached eggs, and a biscuit and gravy. When it came out it was on a huge plate with big portions. The corned beef hash was awesome, with great beefy flavor, and great texture with the contrast between the tender and crispy bits. The potatoes had grilled onions and good flavor. The poached eggs were nothing special, just eggs.
The service was quick and they refilled my drinks without me asking. It took a little time to get a table but everyone was friendly and they had a TV to help pass the time. In terms of value, the special was about $9 which was good for what you get. I'll definite come back when I'm in the area but I don't know if I could order something different knowing how good the corned beef was.
Scoring Breakdown: Ambiance - 10%, Food - 50%, Service - 20%, Value - 20%
My score is as follows:
Ambiance: 4.0 stars
Food: 4.0 stars
Service: 3.75 stars
Value: 3.5 stars
Overall: 3.85 stars = 4 stars
Babs is the epitome of no-frills, homestyle, comforting, breakfasts. I compare all the other breakfast joints I go to to Babs. While they do serve breakfast AND lunch, i've only had their breakfasts so that's what I'll be reviewing.
First of all, they've got some killer corned beef hash! By the reviews submitted by past yelpers, this stuff is legendary! Their biscuits & gravy, perfectly seasoned with yummy bits of country sausage throughout the gravy!. Their french toast is unlike any other french toast i've had. They use a very dense, thick, cinnamon-ey bread that pairs AWESOME with their hot syrup.
If you've got an appetite, order the long haul, sub ham with sausage. I will personally congratulate you if you can finish that dish in one sitting LOL!
The real dish on Babs is that they do breakfast the way breakfast should be done. Their menu literally has something for everyone--and is yummy enough to make even the grouchiest morning monster raise the roof and shout "Woo hoo!" Nobody's written about one of the best kept secrets on the menu, so here goes. The blueberry pancakes are killer. Yeah, that's right. They're as big as the plate they're served on and loaded with fresh blueberries. They're a fabulous "must have." The service at Babs is fast, friendly, and efficient across the board, and, with both inside and outside seating, this diner has a table to make just about anybody happy. Yes, Babs gets crowded on the weekends, and that's a sure sign of a breakfast worth waiting for. But hey, if waiting around for a table doesn't float your boat, go hang out and look at the boats on the water to pass the time until the host calls your number. One thing is for sure: breakfast at Babs is going to make your day just a little bit brighter--especially if you go for the blueberry pancakes.
I don't know why anyone would give this place anything less than 5 stars!!! I would give it 10 if I could! Ok, the wait might be long sometimes, but it is well worth it! Everyone there is super friendly! The food: everything is better than you could even expect.
Breakfast: These items are great: corned beef hash, fried rice, biscuits & gravy, ham & cheese omelet, just to name a few.
Lunch: The french fries have to be some of the best I've ever had! First of all, they are fresh as can be. The seasoned ones are my favorite!
The burgers= A+, BLT= A+, need I say more????
I'm here every weekend!!!
Been coming here for the last few years. I regularly have work meetings nearby, so Babs is a regular stop for everybody heading to that meeting. We're always there around 8-ish on a weekday, and the service is very quick.
I love their "mini" menu, which is just the right pre-meeting size. They'll even do the corned beef hash as a small :) it's very yummy. Beware, the "small" order of biscuits and gravy is still huge and food-coma-inducing.
Service is always prompt and friendly. They even ask if we want separate checks.
I think the only reason this gets one less star than five is because it is located in Suisun, and is not closer to me.
Big portions.. Too much to eat sometimes!! Excellent price for the portions you get. The service is pretty good and the waiters/waitresses are pretty funny.
Only pet peeve: Their hours of service and days of service are difficult to keep track of. For instance, I think they aren't open on Monday's.. But, I'm not sure..
I guess call before heading over there.
The BEST breakfast in Solano County (that isn't my mother's). Granted, there is always at least a 20 minute wait, but you can get coffee at the counter and take it outside while you wait. Take a walk down the way and look at the water to kill time. Portions are HUGE, and I've never left there feeling unsatisfied. I fully recommend the sausage patty and eggs with home fries--always get green onions on the potatoes! Everyone is friendly, even at 6 in the morning! they have a table just for groups in the corner, and are more than happy to split checks. SO GOOD!
Its always busy when we go for breakfast but its worth the wait! Everything is served fresh and the people are super nice! You can sit inside or out with heating lamps if it gets to cold.
The price falls in line with all the BK places in town. (around $6-10 depending what u get)
Sometimes there is a wait but I don't mind. Their portion sizes and tasty food is worth it. Also the service is great, the employees always have jokes or funny stories to share about the day. The location is gorgeous right near the waterfront and it's a great walk after your full. Overall a must go to place to visit if you are in town.
I'll have the Mini hash please...potatoes with green onions...sourdough toast...and soft poach that egg!
I love a diner that doesn't change a bit...well the menu was restyled...but the food is excellent. Great place to drop in EARLY on the weekend unless you want to wait.
Cons: it's not a secret -- so if you aren't there before 8am on a weekend, plan to put your name in, take the number and hang out for a bit,
Pros: okay you've got your number -- so grab a cup of coffee (with specialty creamers even!) and go take a little walk along the Suisun City marina.
Choices of seating: tables, counter and a patio that is either open in the summer months or tented in those in between days.
Best kept secret on the Suisun waterfront...
Every time I come back to Fairfield, this is one of the places I have to go.
I normally get the bacon and eggs, with green onions in the potatoes. No matter whether I get the eggs over-easy or scrambled, they are always perfect. The bacon is always crisp, but never overcooked. The potatoes with green onions and a little bit of Tabasco is a perfect side. They also serve sourdough toast!
Every once in a while, I'll switch it up and get pancakes or french toast. The french toast is light and has a little bit of cinnamon in it, meaning they're perfect. The pancakes are H-U-G-E, a little too big for me, but they will make them smaller if you just ask your waitress. If you don't have a big appetite, they also have "mini breakfasts," which is the same great food, but smaller portions.
Service is excellent. You may have to wait for a table if you come during the morning crush, but coffee service is up by the register so you can grab a cup while you're waiting. The restaurant is bright inside, with every seat next to a window. They also have outdoor seating, perfect for warm summer mornings, with a great view of the slough and marina. Great atmosphere for a breakfast place. During the winter, they've started putting an enclosed awning over the patio, with propane heaters out there. When I was there the other day, no one was out there, though. Once you order, your food comes fast. I don't think I've ever waited more than 7 minutes for food.
BTW... In addition to the great job your waiter/waitress will do, don't forget to tip the cooks in the coffee can next to the register!
Amongst the many chain restaurants in Fairfield, it's really hard to find a decent mom and pop place to eat.
My family and I love having breakfast at this place. They offer good portion sized breakfasts, ranging from homemade corned beef to crispy tender hash browns and farm fresh eggs.
Don't be surprised if you see a line out the door. Alot of the locals go to this place to eat and it is worth the wait! The secret is you have to go early to beat the crowd!
Bab's is a good place to get a breakfast in Suisun. The place is very small, so most of the time you have to sit outside. Which is great if its Summer. I do not blame Bab's for the weather at all, don't get me wrong. Bab's is right on the water and has great views.
Bab's food is good for a Eggs and Beacon kind of place. I always go with the specials. The one bad thing is the menu is too short.
So like I always say give it a try, and if it is Summer then make sure to sit outside and enjoy the views.
I miss Babs--it's been awhile. Babs has GREAT breakfast! Esp the pancakes, omelletes and dont forget the homemade apple butter!
I love this place! the Rod's Special (corned beef hash breakfast) is my favorite. You can never go wrong with this place! The Jessica's special is my second fav. HUGE blueberry pancakes! GO TO THIS PLACE!
dude. hell yeah. this place ROCKS and/or ROLLS so hard. the exterior looks like it's a cooled out place to eat by the waterfront, rock's a real chill vibe. when you walk in tho, it's like you've stepped into a truck stop diner, and your waitress will be a real nice middle aged woman named Flo...
the breakfast here is AWESOME, can't say that i've been there for any other meal.
this is one of the few places that not only HAS cornbeef hash (which is my JAM, son!), but they also make it REAAAAAALLY well.
i also remember their pancakes are like 3/4" thick. that's gangsta.
Working 12 hours a day 6 days a week on the Graveyard shift was very exhausting! So a bunch of my co-workers and I would always go to different establishments to have breakfast.
My cousin told me about this place and said they give you much more food than what you pay...(Always a +Plus+) and the service is Excellent...Very homey enviroment. I highly suggest this place. I assure you that you will not be disappointed!
The corned beef hash is my favorite. Waiters are nice and very good about making substitutes or changing things. We usually get there after 10 on Saturday or Sunday so the wait is about 20+ minutes. Counter seating may be available sooner and the stools are comfy. The time passes quicker if you go in and help yourself to some coffee at the counter near the register.
My dad took me on a date a few weeks ago and we went to breakfast at this place. I don't remember the name on the menu, but i had the corned beef hash with the poached egg(s) on top with hash browns i think.... it was good... the corned beef hash was homemade and had BIG chunks of meat in it... that was nice. But overall, it wasn't as great as my dad thinks it was or lead me to believe.
Really great wholesome breakfast. I really appreciate that they offer "mini breakfast". It's just enough to get a taste of all the things I like and not be to stuffed. You can even sub a biscuit and gravy for the toast. Bab's has been known to get up in the wee hours to roast fresh turkey and chicken for the sandwiches. Whenever I see her there she always comes over to say hi.
Your basics for the breakfast/lunch items, but I'm giving them 5 whole stars because they are so nice and treat my parents (they are regulars) so well. The wait staff know my parents by name and treat them like gold. I go with them on the weekends and have always had a yummy breakfast. Whether, you choose savory or sweet, the breakfast entrees will not disappoint. If you are in this area, give it a go. And tell them Ed and Mary's daughter sent you!
The other great place to have breakfast in Fairfield/Suisun. Plenty of food for the price and very friendly service. Very mom and pops type of place. The food is great, only complaint i have is that i couldn't finish all the good food. It can get busy on the weekend mornings but worth the wait.
Great food but once again the pancakes are awful. But on the upside the coffee is great. Everyone raves about their portion sizes but I've seen bigger, yet it is enough to fill you up on a Sunday morning so no complaints really. Our waitress was also good. There is a pretty long wait though so I recommend that you don't go starving because its gonna be a while before your seated.
this place is legendary in suisun and fairfield. big portions and great service. the food has yet to disappoint me whether it be the pancakes, biscuits and gravy or their specialty dishes. you might have to wait in line but it's well worth the wait.
