The first time I walked into Babies "R" Us, I got really depressed. Sure, I was excited to be expecting our first child, but I'm a Toys "R" Us kid...and though I didn't want to grow up, I did, and now I'm shopping at BRU. So I lamented by softly singing:
I don't wanna grow up; I'm a Toys "R" Us kid *sob*
There's a million toys at Toys 'R Us that I can play with! *wipes tear*
From bikes, to trains, to video games, it's the biggest toy store there is...*sniff*
I don't wanna grow up, cuz if I did, I wouldn't be a Toys 'R Us kid! *cries*
I got even more depressed when we perused the breast pump section and it hit me: they are going to be used for food now rather than my recreation. *LOUD WAILING*
For Those Expecting - This BRU is wide-open and sections are easily identified by overhead signs. They typically don't carry the highest end stuff (think Graco rather than Bugaboo) but they have quality merchandise. The registry is easy to setup and their Thanks for Registering With Us B/c We Are Going to Make 1000s of Dollars Off of Your Friends and Family gift is far more substantial and better than Buy Buy Baby's. The completion program also comes w/ a 15% off coupon (as opposed to BBB's 10%), which can be used on items that weren't purchased off your registry in one transaction online or in-store up to 3 months after the due date.
Hint: when telling them your due date fudge it a little. If you'd rather have EVERYTHING before Junior arrives, make the date 2 weeks earlier so that you can get all the rest at 15% off. If you'd rather wait 3 months and see what else you really need, make the due date later so that the 3 month coupon doesn't expire before you're ready to go out and make big purchases again.
The website is very familiar to those who use Amazon - but no Free Super Saver Shipping. They also have more coupons than BBB - check slickdeals for $5 off $25 or occasionally 15% off your entire purchase. Returns are also easier w/ far less hassle than BBB. Finally, they have a Kiddie Kandids photo studio on-site. I've yet to use them but have heard very good things about them. Note: they are on the pricier side.
For Those Whose Friends Are Expecting - Rejoice for BRU has many, many coupons you can use (just check slickdeals and print a few out) and you can use several coupons per transaction so long as you have a friend or two w/ you. Their website is easier to navigate and order from than BBB and all online items can be returned in store. Additionally, BRU gift cards CAN be used at Kiddie Kandids, which is their in-store photo center, which may be a big plus for your friends. Finally, the store is much more spacious and not nearly as intimidating as BBB.
So for those ladies whose dudes are still wrestling w/ the fact that they're gonna be a daddy, bring them here. It gave me a strange sense of closure. So long, Geoffrey. Another Toys "R" Us kid bites the dust.
