oh dear, where did i go right (you thought i was going to say wrong!, ok i was thinking it)

i guess if this is to happen to you (re: baby)and you are to embrace it (as i am) you need a place to get all that stuff and crap to make sure you dont dress your baby in extra plastic bags you get at stop and  shop or wipe them with yesterdays globe (both ideas were explained to me as bad fyi.) also important, you will need things like: boppies (i wish i was dead for having to even say this item, hey! hand me my boppy, oh while your at it, cave my head in with a claw hammer!) sippy cups, mattress pads, changing tables, high chairs, nail clippers, diapers, bibs, diaper pails (stay away from diaper genie) nipple warmers, bottles, vomit cloths, oil filters, xylophones, casserole dishes.....oops, sorry i had a lapse.

anyway, these are the only folks in town so you might as well accept the fact that you will be coming here ooooooh four times a week soon enough. you can even register here for the big day and they will forget to take things off the registry and then you have to return 4 mattress pads, but ask yourself, can you really have too many mattress pads?

i can count the days now on both hands.....SOS

I should preface this by saying that I am NOT traditional when it comes to nursery decor, baby clothes, or anything baby-related, really. I prefer cleaner lines, simpler patterns, and more colors.

That said, I'm still torn when it comes to BRU. It IS a one-stop shop for everything baby-related you could possibly need...yet the options available at BRU stores or online, well, they're just not me. All the cutesy patterns and "typical" colors (baby pink, blue, yellow, green)--not what we were looking for. This seems to be industry trend though, not necessarily BRU-specific.

We ended up finding a lot of the bigger items (bedding, furniture, stroller, car seat) we wanted for our nursery elsewhere. We were able to find plenty of the smaller things we were looking for in the store.

This store is always super busy, so finding a sales associate can be an interesting adventure. If you know what you're doing in there, then you should have no problem navigating the aisles and finding what you want.

Goddamn it, Julie A! I thought I'd be the first to write a review for this Babies R Us! You beat me. :)

So, today during the rainstorm, my mother and I decided to head here to get some exercise in (and so my mother could look at all the cute baby things). We found a parking space three slots away from the door, so we were only slightly soaked. The store was completely empty, and the sales associates were desperate for us to chit chat and buy stuff... particularly the photo girls. I don't listen to soft sells, ladies, I wrote the BOOK on soft sales! :)

Babies R Us Pros:
Huge selection
Prices for every budget
All baby supplies under one roof
Little gift bag when you sign up for a registry
Purple shopping carts
Nice restrooms
Free gift wrap station

Babies R Us Cons:
Really cold air conditioner
Clearance section is pretty pricey (I found many of the same clearance things at TJ Maxx, AJ Wright, etc for 1/4th of the cost)
Some clothing has really strange color combinations or fabric choices
and
They're re-writing their return policy. Now you can't return stuff with out a receipt whatsoever. Apparently, some genius at corporate Babies R Us realized people were stealing shit, getting store credit with the returns, and then making out like bandits. This is good for them to cut down on their loss (obviously), but bad for half-wits like me who can't remember where they put their tiny pieces of paper... Or when I decide to steal things and return them for store credit -- Muahahah.

Having just returned from our 3rd visit to this BRU,  I am really and truly hoping that I never, ever have to step foot in this store again. Although we purchased many larger items - furniture, bedding,  stroller, car seat - elsewhere, we were counting on BRU to be our one-stop shop for the smaller essentials. But on each visit, the store has been packed, salespeople were hard to come by and of little assistance when we could track them down, the shelves were a mess, items were out of stock and we ended up leaving with less than half of what was on our lists. We created our registry here thinking it would be the easiest option for our friends and family, but they've experienced similar frustrations with purchasing items both online and in-store. We've had much better luck at Target and ordering items online at Amazon.

I ventured into Babies R Us to pick up shower gifts for two gal pals who were preggers.  I walked in, confidently armed with the printed registries, and thought "This will be easy."  As I wandered around trying to match items on the shelf with items on my sheets, it became abundantly clear to me that I should never have children.  Everything in here was cutesy in some way and in my opininon, overpriced.  Two things I just cannot tolerate.

On the plus side, I guess all the stores are set up the same, because the registries tell you what aisle number you should find all the items in.  However,  even with the registries, I didn't have half a clue what most things were and no one was around to help me!  You can imagine that as a twenty-seven year old male who's never been around babies in his life, I may have needed some assistance while in this store.  And I know this sounds sexist, but as a young man wandering the baby store, I kind of expected some nice lady to take me by the hand and lead me around, helping me find exactly what I needed (see my review for O'Connor's Hardware for another example of this type of retail sexism...it goes both ways).  This was not the case, but I was eventually able to locate something from one of the registries.

The other gift I was there to buy was a crib.  No trouble finding those since they're all out on display in the center, but there was no indication of how to go about purchasing one.  So I took a tag from the shelf, got in line at the register where I waited a few minutes only to be told that I had to go talk to someone in the back of the store to place an order.  Apparently they do not stock the furniture in the store and it all needs to be shipped there.  So after placing the order, I was able to go wait in line again at the front registers to check out.  Partly my own fault for not asking, but there should be some sort of signage outlining the protocol for purchasing furniture so you don't waste your time.  Speaking of wasting time, I of course was doing all this the day before the shower, so I got to give the mom and dad-to-be a nice card with a picture of the crib and a note saying that they'd get a phone call when it was ready to be picked up.  Oops!  My bad.

So, three stars overall.  Given that this was my first baby store experience, I can't give it two, because I haven't experienced better.  Plus, they do try to make it easier with the standard aisle numbers.  Less than stellar customer service unfortunately.

I had never been in a Babies R Us before. I had no need. If a friend was poppin' out a baby I'd just hit up the kid section at Target or buy something on line off their registry.
Well, now I am the one poppin' one out and I definitely needed some supplies! This place is laid out really well. They have SO much stuff it's overwhelming, but it's displayed in a way that makes it manageable.
I'm not one of those people that wants a matchy matchy nursery that looks all catalog perfect. I like a more eclectic look, but either way you can get what you need here! They have pretty much everything, AND in every different price range. I don't have much money so I like the fact that their clothes seem to be fairly priced to begin with, but also they have have a lot of clearance racks to pick from. They carry a wide range of everything to suit almost everyone's needs. now if they only sold vintage stuff like from hen I was a kid.....
my mom and Grandma to be was also very happy with the store. She'd been shopping at she she places in Wellesley before, but has said as exhausting as this store can be, it could be her new favorite! She's a tough customer so that says a lot.
WARNING: could be hell for those who don't like babies, dudes, etc.
