    Good country cookin'

This is my favorite chicken restaurant; if I didn't have to worry about weight gain and heart disease I would eat here everyday!!

The food is served family style, so it is a great place to go with groups, and/or for birthdays, special occasions etc. Whether you order fried, smoked or chicken strips you will not be disappointed. This place does chicken right! I cannot bring myself to order anything but chicken when I come to Babe's, so I am unable to comment on some of their other selections such as catfish, pot roast etc. I have tried a bite of the chicken fried steak and it was okay, good, but i've had better.

The sides, which are swimming in butter, (corn, green beans and Mashed Potatoes) are great. Their gravy is good and creamy too, and to top all of that off the restaurant is BYOB, so feel free to bring your favorite beer or wine along!

The salad is meh, but who comes to Babe's for salad??

    They cater too!

I wish one would open closer to the 75204; Bubba's is close, but it is just not the same...

My favorite and only chicken place I would consider going to on a regular basis. I am disheartened that they have not expanded to other Texas cities and always come to this place whenever I am in the greater Dallas area.

    The rotisserie chicken is amazing.

For $11.99, Babe's gives you a choice of protein plus all-you-can-eat sides.  This particular location has the most meat choices: fried chicken, chicken tenders, fried catfish, meatloaf, chicken fried steak, or smoked chicken.  Ribs are also available for 2 bucks extra.

I keep ordering the fried chicken so can only comment on that one.  It's half chicken worth of moist and crispy goodness.  And if that isn't enough chicken for you, you can get extra legs for $1.39 each.  They fry everything in canola oil so it's super healthy.

The family-style sides include: mashed potatoes and gravy, biscuits, beans, green beans, and my favorite, the sweet-n-buttery corn.  There's butter, honey, and syrup on the table to dress up the warm biscuits.  You also get an iceberg lettuce salad with vinaigrette if you want to waste room eating that, but I say you get your fiber from the corn.

For dessert, they have a several pies to choose from.  The chocolate pie with meringue and pecan pie are both yummy if you don't fill up on sides.

Tip:  The waitresses do the hokie pokie with music from time to time and if you do it with them, you get a shiny silver sticker!

Ate here with my siblings, we were craving some fried chicken.
Read the reviews and loads of people thought the food was amazing.
We got the chicken fried steak, fried chicken, and fried fish.
It was good. Chicken fried steak was huge, fried chicken was crispy, but I thought the fried fish was the most flavorful out of the three (bc it came with good tartar sauce).
The sides are all really yummy! Especially the corn! Mmm and the biscuits!!!
There isn't any special seasonings or marinades or anything, but it's well made with classic flavors

T.I.S.F., man.  This Is Southern Food, man.  So your only choice entering this place is your meat (yeah, no vegetarians allowed).  The meat is limited--although, honestly, I don't know why you would need more.  (I know, clearly I am a newbie to Texas).  But, for the fat child in all of us, the sides are unlimited.  Yes, unlimited.  As in, you could ask for refills twelve times and they will still give you more cream of corn, mashed potatoes, biscuits, salad, green beans, etc.

The meats are all delicious.  We didn't order them all but I got the catfish and tried some of the country fried steak and ribs.  The chicken of course is also delicious but I just wasn't in the mood for chicken that night.  The sides are all wonderful as well--they each have the feel of a home cooked meal and that hint of Grandma's secret ingredient mixed in (and I don't just mean butter).  Particular highlight is the creamed corn.  Also, I don't know how they make simple lettuce taste delicious--but I really like their salad. And I'm pretty picky about my salads.

Atmosphere is very very Texan.  Also, I think they have some routine dances?  I think the waitresses started breaking out in to the Hokey Pokey during the middle of our meal.  But, nothing could really distract me from scarfing down the food, so I pretty much tuned it out.  You may enter Babe's hungry but you will leave rolling...literally.  We were stuffed by the end.  You can take home any leftover meats but the sides have to stay.

    T.I.S.F., man.

Yikes, unlimited sides. Unlimited mashed potatoes, biscuits with honey, salad, okra, beans, and corn that you can eat. Just order your chicken. This is the culmination of greatness in America.

I like the traditional fried chicken, although I've heard that the grilled is good too. It's still too much food for any one healthy person to eat though, although on a good day I will put up a decent stand.

You can also pick up a chicken hat for $20 at the register. Check it out.

Probably some of THE BEST fried chicken you can find anywhere! I love coming here on Sundays to eat myself into a food induced coma!

The misses and I usually always order the fried chicken and the chicken fingers. Your meal comes with unlimited sides consisting of a few kernals of corn swimming in a sea of butter, mashed potatoes with white gravy, green beans and their "veggie of the day." I myself am a big fan of their steamed cabbage, which is served on wednesdays. Biscuits are also served and when they are drenched in honey, they are the best thing on the planet!

I have been to this location along with the Arlington, Frisco, and Cedar Hill locations and all of the staff is very friendly and service is always top notch!

This is home cooking at its best! The only better home cooking comes from my wife and mom. The menu is limited but when the food is this good that's ok. I do not like the green beans but since that is the only negative thing it's not a big deal. It's impossible to leave hungry with the unlimited sides!!!!! The chicken is the best. I wish that they would have more of a combo platter. If you are by yourself your stuck with just one main course. If you are with a group that is willing to share it works great as long as everybody orders something different!!!! For 2 people and a baby that is sharing we can still eat cheaper at Olive Garden or LaFlor.

You can't get any closer to home cook country meal than Babe's. This place is so country you won't see city folks in here. They're really known for their fried chicken and corn!

The last few times I've been here I got the fried chicken but after my meal I would get serious food coma it made me so drowsy, This time I decided to try their smoked chicken which was good, real smokey flavor.

Placing an order is different, you order the meat and all the sides come along with it. The sides are unlimited and they also have homemade biscuit. Of course the corn and mashed potato is the best!

Wow. I've heard so much about Babe's and finally, after four years in Dallas, took the dive.

We had to wait about 30 minutes to get in on a Saturday night, and I have to say that the average size of the people in line made me wonder whether we should really eat there! It was, however, totally worth it as a one-time (or every now and then) experience.

Babe's is pure Americana. Cheesy one-liners on signs, old country decor, one massive open room with a high decibel level clientele, and .... chicken. Fried chicken. Chicken fried steak. Or ribs. Or pot roast.

Essentially, you just pick your meat. All the sides come out with the meat, whether you like them or not, and they're all-you can eat. The biscuits are melt-in-your mouth awesome, and of course there's the green beans and the corn and... you get the picture.

It's just a good, down-home, old school chicken dinner. Bring visitors. Don't come here often.

I feel like in the reviews below everything has been said about Babe's so I will keep this short- "Yum!".

The CFS, biscuits, and gravy taste exactly like my mom used to make in an iron skillet, the sides are so homey and good. I force myself to eat the salad first just to keep myself from eating a whole plate of warm yummy biscuits. The salad is always crisp and good though.  I have never once had dessert here, with biscuits, butter, honey, and sorghum on the table, why would you? The meat comes all piled up on a platter that you have to take a picture of...everytime! Ridiculous. In-laws love the jalepeno honey mustard for the tenders, I am a gravy girl.

**Warning**- If you are on a diet just don't even bother coming here, you will only be sad and depressed when you leave. Believe me, I have tried and it was a sad day. The smoked chicken is the leanest of the meats but even that is with skin, on a bone and the salad is pre-dressed. Great "cheat day" dining or just don't bother, this is real comfort-calories don't count-unbuckle your pants-dining! More gravy please!

I am not sure what  the rules are currently but they allowed us to bring in our own beer and wine for  the table on a birthday, call ahead to check. I will second the votes for the sides to be availible to-go, leaving with a sack of meat is probably my least favorite thing about this place.

Did I say this was going to be short, oops! And now I am craving Babe's, dang it!

If you're in the mood for comfort food- this is your spot.

I'm not gunna lie and tell you it's your grandmother's kitchen, at least not my grandmother. But it hits the spot when you want comfort food and don't want the insult dolled out at Cracker Barrel.

Frankly, I never saw a menu, but I knew chicken fried steak was a safe, solid choice in a suth'un style eatery- I wasn't disappointed.

The CFS was fork tender and came with all the appropriate fixin's- mashed potatoes, gravy, cream style sweet corn, steamed cabbage, green beans (with bacon-not fatback) and homemade biscuits (which were delicious!!)

Everything was served family style with free refills- so, they got the country table concept goin on. I would have loved a plate of sliced tomatoes and vidalia (NOT 1015) onions on the table, but that would be asking a bit much.

Unfortunately, no one at our table got the fried chicken- I hear it's awesome.

They should serve their drinks in mason jars...just sayin'.

The place was clean, no roaches or visible dirties. The staff was cool and responsive. The food was served quickly and hot.

As is typical with any food, if you're from the country/region the food is modeled after (the south in my case), you will find some faults- but it's close enough...best I've had lately.

PS- the gravy is made from scratch.

I frequent the one in Roanoke, so this was my first trip to the Garland location. Same concept as the other location, but for some reason, the Garland location has an expanded menu! (Or at least "expanded" compared to Roanoke.)

What?! Not just FC (fried chicken) and CFS (chicken fried steak)? Garland does have FC and CFS, but also ribs, catfish, chicken fingers, pot roast and smoked chicken. I've had most of them and without exception, they're all pretty good.

My friend Spencer took me here when I visited him in Dallas.  The 1st thing he talked about was the truck outside they have to hunt these giant chickens.

Well, when you arrive here, the truck is all the hype.  Seriously.  It's pretty cool.  I loved just taking pictures in front of the thing.

Inside are large tables, both round and rectangular that can fit the biggest family reunions.  And if your family is having a reunion here in Texas, then this would be a great place to take everyone.

We ordered the ribs and the chicken.  The biscuits came first and they're good.  Especially with honey.  I was pretty amazed.  Shockingly, this is the first time I've had biscuits with honey.  Not exactly sure how I missed this combination living in the South but here I am, lapping up the honey with my biscuits.  We get a ton of more sides like mash potatoes, green beans, salad, but the rest of the sides are just ok.  Nothing incredible but good enough to eat.  I don't eat a whole lot of the sides as I really want to leave room for the ribs and chicken.

The ribs come out and they're not bad.  Like most the sides, they're just ok.  Nothing incredible.  They are pretty large ribs but  I wouldn't order them again because seriously, it's all about the chicken.

The chicken.  Wow.  The chicken.  The chicken is really amazing.  This is hands down the only reason you need to come eat here.  Really crunchy and moist inside the meat.  The perfect balance that every fried chicken should be.  Lots of taste.  I didn't even need to reach for any hot sauce because the taste is good enough.  Really made me think they did hunt some giant chicken with that truck outside because fried chicken like this is so rare.

Babe's chicken, why...  WHY can't I take the sides home?  Why must you torture me, eating your delicious chicken at home without your delicious sides?  This is my only complaint.

The dining room is a mess of tables and chairs allow just enough space for someone to walk by.  It's not too loud, but there is a dull roar of people devouring food and saying how good it is.  Occasionally the Hokey Pokey will come on and patrons and wait staff alike will "shake it all about".  Today one kid was having convulsions near our table and it was cracking me up.

You start with a salad.  Every time we go, my wife can't stop talking about the salad.  Today she forgot until the waitress mentioned she'd be back with it and she said, "SALAD!!!!" and proceeded to clap her hands in delight.

Then the biscuits, so good while they're warm, don't let them get cold.  Put half a pat of butter on it, then put a dollop of honey then a plop of molasses and then get your taste buds ready for THE best biscuit EVER.

    The food:
In the order of "YUM" to "eh", you have the choice of Fried Chicken, Chicken Fried Steak, Chicken Tenders, Smoked Chicken, Pot Roast, Ribs and Catfish.  Catfish, seriously?  Don't laugh, my mom gets it, but SERIOUSLY?  Okay, now you can laugh.  I suppose you need to have something to eat during Lent or for the vegetarians that eat fish.

You also get bottomless sides.  Creamed Corn, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans and the side of the day, today (Tues) was Okra.

If you are going here to celebrate a birthday, be aware that they make a big deal of it, lots of hootin' and hollerin'.  They'll make you do the chicken dance and they have you wear a chicken hat.  Now if you like getting lice, then you're in luck, however, if you're opposed to parasites, then I would defend your hair vigorously.  Who knows who's head it's been on and this place is in Garland!

Bottom line: If you've never been, you need to go.  I fully recommend this place for anyone and everyone.  This place could turn a vegetarian around!

The best fried chicken I've had at a restaurant ever. Not greasy at all, moist and thoroughly cooked. I read a previous review stating the chicken was not cooked enough and this was not true at all.

The pork ribs were very meaty, tender and larger than I expected.

Banana Pudding was great! Most likely you'll be too full to enjoy dessert after your meal, order it to go and enjoy it later like I did.

Great place to go to with larger parties (4+) since the meals are served family style and you really get a lot of food.

Service was excellent. Very attentive to our table!

Bottom line is there is nothing not to like about this place, there may be a wait ...but it's worth it!

First Time going to babes chicken dinner house. I went tonight and it was fabulous. It lived up to its hype.

    Food:
Food was served family style. The menu is very simple. You pick your meat and go at it! You have a choice of chicken, chicken fried steak ( what i picked ), catfish, chicken tenders (for the kids), and ribs.

I went with my family (5 others) and it was delivered on a giant plate full of fried chicken and my lone chicken fried steak.

I tried the chicken and the meat was cooked perfectly and seasoned with just the right amount of salt and pepper. The chicken isn't to greasy since it's been properly rested. The crust is nice and crunchy and savory. I'm a fan of pairing it with gravy to give it a difference of texture and taste. The gravy is delicious! It's packed with flavor, smooth and not too thick. The consistency is perfectly balanced.

Avoid the salad and the beans (both string and pinto). The salad is drenched with sweet dressing and the beans just tasted like salt. The creamed corn and mashed potatoes were the best!

    Ambience:
The restaurant is located in a strip mall. It's hidden in the back. You have to make a right onto a road to find it.

The restaurant is quirky, corny and makes you feel like you're eating at a dive. It is.  The tables are a bit inconvenient and cramped. There's lots of random redneck decor. Chickens and one liner signs.

The restaurant is divider free. It's laid out with several family sized rectangular tables.

    Service:
Service was ok. The waitress was friendly and nice. She could smile a little more though. She seemed like she was ready to sit down. she delivered our bill quickly.

    Overall:
Overall this is a must visit! I'd probably visit the one in frisco. I haven't been but it's closer to us.

    Updated - 5/12/2011

I found myself back at Babe's for lunch today, and it was so damn good that I thought it warranted an update.

Apparently the secret to good service IS to go there when they're busy. Right off the bat, our waitress was on the ball - showering us with gifts of salad and hot biscuits when she brought our drinks. Then she took our order and flitted back to the kitchen. Just as we finished our big bowl of salad and a plate of biscuits, our giant-ass tray of food arrived. I ordered the smoked chicken, but we also had fried catfish and pot roast. It was accompanied by their standard veggie sides - mashed potatoes, butter beans, green beans, corn, and their bad-ass gravy. Oh, and another plate of hot biscuits! Things were looking very good...

And the food was great. The smoked chicken was soooo good - moist and tender, well seasoned, with a nice smoky flavor. I got a whole half-chicken (leg, thigh, breast, wing - all on the bone, of course). I made it through the leg and the breast (and generous helpings of each side) before I waved my little white surrender flag. I did manage to sneak a piece of catfish off my friend's plate while she wasn't looking, then further distracted her in order to double-dip in her tartar sauce... (I'll pause here while you giggle at my awesome double entendre).

    "Chirp... chirp... chirp..."

So anyhow, today was a good day at Babe's. I'm looking forward to my next trip out there... maybe I'll save room for pie...

Came here in late-February for lunch with some co-workers. I had heard this place was wildly popular -- and this is the original Babe's of the regional chain. Food was described as family-style, Southern comfort food, which is served with all-you-can-eat sides (such as mashed potatoes, corn, greens, etc.) for the table to share in addition to your entree.

First impression upon entering was that this was not a large restaurant (not a bad thing), and decor wasn't the most modern. A lot of interesting, Texas-themed decor adorn the walls.

I ordered the smoked pork ribs, which comes with additional BBQ sauce for dipping. Holy $#!T, this thing is huge (see photo)! I was also told by a local co-worker that I got the smaller lunch portion (wtf, they get bigger???).

The ribs were just okay, but most of the sides were very good (the greens were bland and soggy). I'd recommend coming here hungry, because it's tough not to overeat at Babe's. You'll want to try all the sides, then your entree comes out and if one of your co-workers hypes up your eating abilities to the local branch like one of mine did, then you'll be forced stuff your face. And yeah, I had to go back to work after that (but not before using the bathroom for a good 10-15 minutes hehehe!).

Reasons I only gave Babe's three stars:
    - Service was mediocre. My largest dining pet-peeve is being slow on refills and we had to stop the waiter twice to get refills on my RC.
    - Table space is small, which is uncomfortable if you come in a group. We were a table of six and I felt cramped at one of their round tables.
    - The pork ribs were just okay, and I did not enjoy the greens. Their pot roast looked good. I wish I had ordered that or one of the chicken dishes everyone else keeps talking about.
    - The bathroom was disgusting. When your face is uncomfortably stuffed and you've gotta wash the BBQ sauce off of your hands and face, you don't want to do it around the heavy scent of urine.

Overall, I'd say this is a place worth trying, but I don't know if I'd return again.

We enjoyed our lunch at Babe's.   Love the Texas country decor and matching music!   We arrived for an early lunch, got there before the crowd, and wondered why the waitress was seating us in the back corner and everyone that came in afterwards.  And, then we knew why - this paces fills up at lunch, so start them in the back and keep pack'in them in until the place is filled to the brim.   And, you don't see too many city-looking folks.  In fact, Waylon & Willie look-alikes were at the next table! :)  This is down home cooking in a setting that makes you think you're out in small town west Texas with the locals.  A very nice break from your normal city routine.  I know most everyone on Yelp raves about the food, but this southern gal has had better.  Sorry, but my mamma was a fantastic cook in Louisiana and I know the real thing and I know when it's great.   So, we tried the fried chicken and ribs, plus all the included fix'ins - biscuits, salad, mashed potatoes, country gravy, cream corn, green beans and cabbage.   The chicken was good, but lacked the spice and crispy texture I was expecting, and the ribs were mostly fat.  What little meat on the ribs was tasty and loved the accompanying BBQ sauce.   The mash & gravy was very good, along with the authentic greens beans and cream corn.  The biscuits are also very fresh and good.  The salad...... oh dear - what a missed opportunity.  This is just a bowl of iceberg lettuce (which has absolutely no nutrients) and a sweet Italian dressing.   It's actually very tasty and would be an awesome salad if it had some extra ingredients.  The coconut meringue pie was just OK.  Our waitress was very nice and as I said, we enjoyed our visit.   This would be a fun place to take our family from Scotland the next time they are in town for a bit of southern hospitality!

Whenever I come to Dallas, I'm reserving at least one meal just for Babe's.

It's just comforting comfort food... done simple, and done right.  Now I feel all comfy and stuff...  Aaahh...

Chicken Fried Steak, man...  I know a lot of places say they have it, or try to pass off Country Fried Steak as the same thing.  It's NOT.  Sorry Claim Jumper, you just ain't got it right.  I tried to make it a home like they do at Babe's... failed.  They have a gift.  Leave it to the experts.

I guess it's a Texas thing... and I've been told it is... by Texans.  This place has the best chicken fried steak in the country as far as I'm concerned (and I've sampled it all across the country).

Sides... I'm not usually a sides guy, but they make me wanna be a sides guy.  I certainly wouldn't usually eat three biscuits with butter and honey, but, well... what can I say?

    Aaaahhh...

Went on a Tuesday - a bit crowded at lunch time (there was a senior citizen bus dropping them all off) but that doesn't bother me because they seemed to disappear inside all the white noise and space. I was there with only one friend and I was skeptical when they gave us a 6 seated table, but WOAH SHE BROUGHT A BOATLOAD OF FOOD!

We ordered one dish and a veggie plate (There is no paper menu so I can't exactly remember the name...other than it was smoked chicken...)

My waitress was extremely nice (I get really annoyed at people who ask me too many questions but she was always close by when we wanted more bread or mashed potatoes).

Overall, great place to go with a huge group of people (atleast 4 people), loved the service, and very tasty southern food.

When I crave mashed potatoes and gravy, I will be back :)

Now that I know Babe's exists, I literally beg my co-workers to come here  every time I'm in town for work.

What drew me at first were the chicken tenders (and I am not a fan of this meat normally).  I dunk them in the oh so tasty jalapeno sweet mustard sauce, but also the gravy that comes with the mashed potatoes.

On to what keeps me coming to Babe's - the sides!  Real mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet corn which is kinda creamed and kinda just altogether awesome, green beans (country-style, so not very good for you), and a rotating veg (I've had butter beans twice).  Complete the table-laden feast with fresh biscuits (they have Karo syrup at the table to pour over top - crazy talk to a northern chick like me, but I I tried it and liked it better than honey) and a salad, which is pretty much head lettuce in a cider vinegar-sugar dressing.

The way it works here - you chose your meat and drink, and they keep bringing the sides til you tell them to stop.  All for around $11-13, depending on if you get a soda or water.  Some meat choices are fried chicken, chicken fried steak, meatloaf, catfish, smoked chicken, etc.  I heard the waitress tell another table that a serving of tenders is seven pieces!  Our table of 7, 6 of which ordered the tenders (see!  they're that dang good), received the biggest platter I've ever seen full to bursting with tenders!

The place seriously hops for weekday lunches, so don't plan on a quiet conversation.  Eat!  Loosen your belt, and then eat some more.

" Best Place to be a total glutten!"
Good Gracious I forgot how good this place is.

I usually get some form or chicken here but last two times I went I tried the catfish and then the ribs. All I can say is that if I were on death row and had to pick what my last meal was going to be it would be the ribs and/or catfish from Babe's. Yes folks they are just that good.

I already was in love with chicken fried this or fried chicken that from Babe's but then they went and trumped that with their other meats. Way I look at it no matter what you order here you should leave happy and full planning the next time you get to come back.

Would it be too redneck of me to suggest to my husband that we come here for Valentines night? Nah..Bring on the ribs baby!!!!

Mom:  "Hey son, what do you want for dinner?"
Son:  "I wanna get me some Babe's tonight!"
    Mom:  "YOU WANT WHAT?!"

If I ever wanted to treat a friend to some good old southern food, this is the place to take them.  Babe's is a unique restaurant in the sense that they serve "all you can eat" sides and the protein you order comes with a large enough portion to feed an African nation.  The store front is huge with lots of seating, however, it is always busy - especially on Sundays.  This place is perfect for a small group of diners or for large parties with a carnivore's appetite.

The best deal here is the fried chicken.  They just pile it on a platter and bring it to you.  Oh by golly, they serve moist well seasoned chicken with a nice crunchy skin.  Their catfish is crispy and flaky.  The pot roast is succulant and bursting with flavor when it hits your mouth.  The country fried steak is mouth watering and delicious beyond belief.  Before you come here to eat, I would suggest you wear sweat pants and prepare a nice cot so you can sleep afterwards.  This stuff will put you in a serious food coma.

It's unfortunate that this place is 2 minutes away from me because my wallet will always be empty and I will probably become fat from eating here all the time.  Definitely worth a return: A+

Whenever we go to Texas we MUST eat here.  The atmosphere is very fun and homey.  The food is all awesome and made there.  The fried chicken is the best I have ever had but so is the smoked chicken.  Everything we tried there is so good.  I love the simple but addicting salad dressing they have as well as the different side dishes that are all served family style.  These are all you can eat by the way!  I also love the banana pudding, peach cobbler and chocolate cream pie!

I also hired them to cater a party in Texas and they were great for that too!

This is a great family place. You order your meat and the veggies are all brought out family style and you can eat all of them you can put away-and that's alot for my clan.

Anyone who knows me for any amount of time knows I loves me some chicken fried steak- and they make a great one here. That being said I am shocked to admit that the chicken is actually my favorite here. I love the smokey flavor of this bird- I could probably eat this chicken every day and never tire of it. The sides are all first rate too-as are the desserts.

I like the ambiance as well. This is one of the rare places the whole family enjoys and can agree upon.

Plus I love the crazy truck out front!

This place has been done to death but I don't care, I was reminded last night how much I like it.  The last time I had been to this location, I was a petulant teenager and none too thrilled to be at this family-style institution (or really to be seen with my family at all.)  I have since been to another Babe's (in Sanger where the waitress sang over the loud speaker while serving food which awesome and weird) but last night was my first trek in many moons to the Garland location.

It was a belated father's day dinner and I -for once in my "adult" life- was paying for dinner for all of us.  So boy howdy was a I glad to be eating somewhere so affordable.  SO much food for the price, too.  Delicious fried chicken (unsurprisingly) but I was all over the turnip greens which is weird since I rarely if ever eat greens.  That salad is weird though- the waitress asked if we wanted some and we hemmed and hawed and she was like "it comes with the meal, some people just don't like it" which I can understand.  I ate mine but it is very sweet and lacks any vegetables other than lettuce. Biscuits are heavenly, we ended up taking like 6 home.

SO let it be known, your teenagers may be embarrassed to be seen with you here but they may grow up and come back one day and buy you dinner to make up for it!

We need more family style restaurants like this one. I love the simplicity of ordering the main entree/meat since all the sides are shared by the table.

On our first visit, everyone ordered the chicken fried steak. It was an enormous portion and most of us had to take the rest home. The steak was tasty, definitely not overly fried so that you had to fight to cut it or chew it. The flavor was just fine. As far as chicken fried steak goes, the taste was on par with others I've had in the area.

The sides reminded me of dinners at my grandmother's when I was a child. Seriously down home, southern cooking. They brought us pinto beans, green beans, corn that was somewhat creamed and mashed potatoes with gravy.

I tried everything but the pinto beans - I'm just not a fan of most beans. The green beans were lightly seasoned and cooked well. They weren't too mushy as if they'd been sitting and waiting to be served. The creamed corn was delicious with just the right amount of sweetness that wasn't too overpowering. The mashed potatoes and gravy were pretty tasty, although the gravy was a bit too thick for me. It tasted great, though!

Looking forward to our next trip to Babe's to try the other entree selections. I'm thinking the hickory smoked ribs or smoked chicken. I'll also be sure to save room for dessert this time around because that banana pudding is calling my name.

This place would get 5 stars if I could have had a cocktail!  If you like it fried with family style sides, then you will love this place!  It is a bit loud and not great to talk to everyone at your table without leaving with a sore throat, but the food is delicious!  I would highly recommend this place if you are not counting calories!  The fried chicken...delicious.  The catfish...delicious.  The chicken fried steak...delicious if you are into that kind of thing....and the smoked chicken...great!  Now, the biscuits will make you slap somebodies granny!  YUM!

All in all, a great place to chow!

I can't help it.  I LOVE this place.  Usually I go with friends to the one in Carrollton or the one in Frisco.  Today, since I was by myself, I decided to go back to the Garland location as it's been a while since I've been to that one.

I left early but it was already crowded - I got there about 11:30).  I was in a perfect spot and got to watch 2 chicken head birthdays (at the same table) and 1 birthday where the manager came over and sang HB to an elderly woman (very nice touch).

I certainly wasn't made to feel out of place as a single diner though.  They are always sooo nice at Babe's.  My server was a very sweet young lady that made sure I was getting everything I needed without making me feel spooked.

AHHHHH, the chicken is just sooo darn good.  I decided to eat what I wanted so I concentrated on the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy and of course, the bisquit.  And yes, I drooled sorghum on it too along with butter.   I was in chicken heaven.   I'm still in chicken heaven.  and don't tell anyone but I was thrilled that I didn't have to share the gravy!

Even though I'll be eating salad for most of the next week, it was sure worth it.  Notice I said 'most of the next week' - I left my chicken on the table (wrapped up and ready to go too!) by accident and the server brought it to me as I was paying.  Good thing too, I would have missed the leftovers (and no, I didn't bring home any potatoes or corn because there wasn't any left to speak of).

Besides the food and service, the other thing I like about Babe's is that they are not all cookie cutter looking - this location is my favorite.

What's not to love about this favorite?  The fried chicken, chicken fingers and chicken fried steak are all cooked perfectly.  Friends have also loved the catfish and baked chicken entrees.

Of course my favorite is the homemade creamed corn.  I don't want to know how they make it, but never change that recipe.  Fresh biscuits with sorghum and butter are amazing also.

When I've had them catered, I've never cared too much for the banana pudding - but I'm not a meringue fan.  If you love meringue, you'll love the pudding because the custard part is fab.  However, the chocolate pudding (again, made with meringue) is delish.

Nothing like a country chicken dinner!

There food is amazing - all of it - the only downside that there are no togo's for the lovely sides (or your iced tea).

Really, everyone else has already said it.
