If you want to feel your arteries clogging as you eat, Come to Babe's.

The fried chicken is damned good. I am not a very big fan of fried chicken but I LOVE Babe's chicken. The sides are okay. Everything is covered in butter, so that means it is delicious. We traded my mom's parents in yesterday for my dad's parents, so we had to take them out to eat. They were overwhelmed because they only wanted to eat "a little bit," which is not a possibility at Babe's. You are basically barraged with food when you sit down, So don't come unless you're hungry. My grandpa also got the coconut pie and gave me a large part of it. It's not the best coconut pie I've ever had, but it's alright.

I have been to the original Babe's before, and I was addicted.  But I haven't been in Dallas for business for quite some time, so I have been just dreaming about the moist fried chicken and the cream corn for YEARS!!!

I took the opportunities to come back to Babe's during my recent business trip.  I picked this once because it's in between the airport and my hotel!!! YES-I came here right after I got off the plane!!!!

There's nothing can be better than chicken here...I dunno what it is...it is moist and tender and just crispy enough that you want to inhale the whole plate in a second! :)  I also love the cream corn and the white gravy here!!!

Babe's will also be my first stop whenever I have a chance to visit Dallas.

Gosh Darn it!  That corn is sooo good.  The chicken's not better than Bubba's but the sides are definitely worth the visit.  All meals come with corn, green beans, mash potatoes, salad, and 2 biscuits.  All you have to do is pick the meat.  For $10.99, it's a pretty sweet deal.  Dude, we should make our ethanol out of this stuff, then the whole world can smell like Babes Cream Corn.  That would be my heaven.

O.K., I'll give it to you straight, this is THE best down-home cookin' and fried chicken I have ever had.  I'm sure this place either has been or will be featured soon on one of those Food Channel shows about southern food.    It's all you can eat and they mean it.

**Rant Alert:  I have absolutely no sympathy for people who go to a fried chicken joint and order catfish or pot roast, what are they thinking???  When in Rome people, when in Rome... When I go to a pizza parlor I never order the chicken fingers.

Eating at Babe's in Carrollton is an event, we enjoy going there just to people watch while we wait to be seated.  Located conveniently at 35 and Beltline in downtown Carrollton this place is a favorite with the biker set, regular folks, and everybody in between- which always makes for good people watching.

The "front porch"/ waiting area is very kitchy with an eclectic assortment of seating including tractor seats.  You can BYOB and sit on the porch and drink just like at home- Yee Haw!  There's even a fire pit that is actually lit in the winter months.

In keeping with the down home theme the interior also features mismatched chairs and tables.  They do pack you in like sardines so if you have a problem with that stay away.  Oh, and if you're expecting a menu- don't because I don't think they exist- that's one of the quirky eccentricities that makes the Babe's experience so much fun.

Like the previous posters said, just select your meat (remember, when in Rome) and the sides all come with- creamed corn, mashed potatoes, mouthwatering biscuits, salad, and green beans.    FYI, the chicken fingers with dipping sauce are every bit as good as the regular fried chicken.  I especially like the doggie bags- another of Babe's eccentric charms- they're literally plastic bags hanging from a nail on the wall, just take one down and put your leftover biscuits and chicken inside.

The music is classic and loud, not Led Zeppelin classic, but Patsy Cline and Tennessee Ernie Ford classic.  Yes, the teenage waitresses do sing and dance the hokey pokey, but oddly enough my husband seems to emjoy that part the most,  hmmm...

This is a GREAT place to take your parents when they come to town, unless they're of the hearing aid set.  It's hard to maneuver a walker in Babe's because it's so crowded.  The good news is they do have take-out.

Recently I have been jonesin' for some good fried chicken. When this craving starts to set in, all I can seem to think about is Babes. So much fried goodness its impossible not to love!

My first visit with the 'rents, I just could not understand why they wanted to trek what seemed a million miles away for this place when we passed about 20 different chicken establishments on the way there. Parking was almost impossible and there was line out of the door. We finally sat down after waiting 15 min and taking one look around I noticed the decor was a little drab and the menu was very limited which didn't help me subscribe to all the hype. We ordered the fried chicken, corn, green beans and the mashed potatoes with gravy. Holy Heart Failure, Batman! I literally died and went to fried chicken heaven with the first bite. I knew right then why this place was so popular.  Pippin hot and well seasoned. The green beans and corn tasted oh so fresh. The gravy...ooh wee! I found myself dunkin' pieces of my chicken in it. And just when my stomach spoke to me and told me I was full, I found myself diving in for more. They must lace the food here with some type of crack because I am now an addict for Babe's!!

LOVE this place! Husband's family lived in same neighborhood all his life and never knew about this place! We recently moved back to the area from out of state and our niece had recently been there for a birthday dinner with friends. Been hooked ever since.
No menu needed. They offer multiple types of meat. You pick one and they constantly bring biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and creamed corn during your meal. YUM-YUM! Anyone going out of THIS place hungry...it's your own fault. :o) Take someone there on their birthday. :o) They have them wear a chicken hat and flop their arms around as the staff sings Happy Birthday.

Catering is a plus too. Don't order what you think you'd need. Order low cause they do send you home with enough to feed an army. We had our extended family catered and even ordering low we still had everyone taking home some.

What a fun place! The waitress's sing and dance. Great Party Atmosphere.........The food is very good. Fried Chicken is the best. All the sides, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans are served family style with refills. Personally I love the salad dressing kinda like sweet Spinach Salad dressing. Definitely very full when you leave. Great location, easy parking. The service is very fast and friendly. Maybe not for the health conscious but would recommend.

I love Babes!!!!

Babes has the best fried chicken and my brother loves their smoked chicken, although it's a bit messy for me, but definitely tasty.  I've also tried their pot roast and chicken tenders, both of which are good, but it's the fried chicken that I have to eat when I go there, hot, fresh and tasty!  There are 4 pieces of fried chicken per order, a breast, a thigh, a leg and a wing.

As for the sides, if you haven't been here before, you don't have any choices, you automatically get everything.  Creamy mashed potatoes, with a side of cream gravy, but they don't really need it, they're so good.  Green beans that are smoky, with lots of bacon flavor.  Creamed corn that is so sweet and yummy.  The biscuits are a bit heavy for me, but great with the Plugra European butter and some honey.  These are all unlimited sides, if you finish the bowl, they bring you more.

As for dessert, I'm not a big fan of the Banana Pudding (they put a meringue on it), since my friend makes better, but the Coconut Cream Pie is out of this world, and the Pineapple Upside Down Cake is the best version of it that I've ever had.

They have sodas and iced tea, but don't expect sweet tea, like my friend did.

And yes, this place is a total heart attack on a plate, but I can't resist eating here every once in a while.

It's hard to write a review of Babe's. This place pulls me one direction with the power of country cooking, and the other direction with the power of disgusting portion sizes and unhealthy eating that makes half the patrons look like manatees.

Since the menu is so simple, I will rate each part

1) The salad  - * (1-star) tastes like oil, vinegar and Simple Syrup poured over iceberg lettuce.

2) The mashed potatoes * (1-star)...meh

3) The corn - ** (2 Stars) canned corn, doctored up with tons of butter and cream. Anything with that much butter and cream deserves at least 2 stars.

3) The Biscuits ***** (5 Stars). Addictive, amazing little miracles of perfection.

4a) The Meats  - The Good. **** (4 Stars) The Smoked Chicken and fried chicken are both excellent.

4b) The Meats  - The Bad. *(1 Star) The chicken fried steak is abominable. The Pot roast is dry and fatty. The chicken fingers are under done

4c) The Meats  - The Ugly. ** (2 Stars) The Catfish is passable, as is the meatloaf.

5. Deserts -  ***(3 Stars) Only tried the naner puddin. Not bad!

Now - about the scene....ummmm...The jukebox is too loud, the waiters are pretty green, and the skate park Hokey Pokey thing is lame

oh man do you feel fat after you leave, great food, good service, great chicken fried steak. The only thing that holds me back on the five stars, is the fact that I HATE when they make the waitresses sing and dance.....fuck the hokey pokey. I cant stand it I feel bad for every one of those girls. Oh and I hate places that allow small children to run a muck. Other then that this place is great , and I would totally take your parents here they will love that home cooking. And there is usually a wait if you go later than senior citizen hour, but there's a nice patio to sit and wait.

Also for lunch they close at 2pm and reopen at 5pm. just a heads up

Fried chicken, BBQ chicken, or chicken fried steak.  That's the menu.  Get a drink, they'll give you all you can eat corn, mash potatoes, and white gravy, and enjoy.  They give three pieces per person but they are good sized, everyone will get a breast piece, and it's some of the best chicken you can get.

Simple and to the point...this place works really well when you go with a good sized group.

I love this all you can eat comfort food! No, you do not have many choices..just choose your meat, and all the sides are the same, but it is soooo yummy! I always get the fried chicken. The green beans are amazing, and the creamed corn is delicious. The salad is just lettuce. (?)

The down side is they do not let you take the sides to go since it is all you can eat. To me, that is a little wasteful, and it makes me sad to leave any of this lovely food behind. So I end up stuffing my face. Oh, and the place is really LOUD, so don't expect a quiet relaxing atmosphere.

Go for the food, not the ambiance, and you will he very happy.

Wow, talk about down home cooking! I haven't been to a place like this since I was a kid. If your hungry, this is a definite place to go. After ordering your main entree, which includes all you can eat side dishes, be prepared to loosen that belt a notch or two. The service is fast and friendly.  If your not feeling the chicken that night , you can can order the Pot Roast or the Cat Fish; but I think everyone comes for the chicken.

Holy, holy, holy! Talk about your welcoming food fiesta Southern style. I went here my first time visiting Dallas last year in the fall; and my oh my.
Basically you pick out of 8 entrees and then they come serving you with limitless (yes, that's right limitless) sides. Mashed potato, corns, biscuits (my favorite!), and so forth.
I can't give it  5 stars b/c it's not a "classy" place nor is the interior design (yes, I'm slightly materialistic) isn't attractive.
But fear not b/c the food is plentiful and very, very good. I really love the chicken friend steak (what do they put in it that is so good?) and fried chicken.
Bad thing: um, no menu so we don't know how much it will cost...but I'm going to say about moderately priced.
If you're visiting the South/Dallas and you want to know what "comfort food" is, you MUST go here.

Bring on the gluttony!  This place is paradise for the over-eater.  I will warn you up front, if you are trying to watch your wasteline, steer clear of Babe's!  The huge portions of their 5 menu items (fried chicken, bbq chicken, chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, or catfish) to choose from are served with family-style unlimited sides.  That means you get a big bowl of mashed potatoes, gravy, cream-style corn, and green beans with spoons in them to serve yourself along with all the rolls you can eat.  Seriously, the chicken fried steak fills a standard dinner plate, so you have to eat some of it before you'll have room for sides.

Sometimes during lunch, a waitress will sing in the middle of the restaurant karaoke-style with their old jukebox - the girl who sang during our meal was outstanding.  She belted out "At last...my love has come alive..." better than Kelly Clarkson.

I have found it impossible to save room for dessert here, but I hear that it is truly worthwhile if you can plan that far ahead.  I will return soon, not wearing tight jeans.  Great place to take visitors who want a taste of southern hospitality.

Kelvin R. (see his review a few down from this one) dragged us to lunch from work the other day.  Something tells me dragging won't be needed in the future!

I had their chicken fried steak, which was more like chicken fried cow, it was so huge.  I still have half of it in the fridge here at work.  Best chicken fried steak I've had in some time.

The sides that go along with the meat really make this place.  The beans, the corn, the potatoes...and oh my, the biscuits!  The biscuits are amazing!  I smuggled out a couple, and had one this morning for breakfast with a bit of the leftover gravy from the steak, dang good use for leftover gravy.

One bit of advice...get there early, expecially if you want to park anywhere remotely close...of course, after eating here a bit of a walk to work off some of the calories might be a good thing.

I've been to Babe's twice and both times it was good. There aren't too many options on the menu, but what they do have is good. We always get the fried chicken dinner. The salad is boring, but yummy. I prefer more of a variety of veggies - or at least a tomato or something, but whatever it'll do - who goes to a FRIED CHICKEN joint for the salad anyway - really?!? Let's be honest we're here for the chicken (and calories).

The biscuits are good. They've always come to my table warm, fresh and delicious. I love a warm, fresh biscuit with butter on it. YUM! Anyway you get the point about the biscuits. Some times the chicken and its accessories takes longer than I'd like to get to my table, but I think that's just because it smells like delicious chicken in there and makes me extra hungry. When it does arrive its always fresh and super hot - as in - ohmygodiwanttoeatthisbecauseitsmellssodeliciousbut itsburningmyfingers - hot.

The chicken accessories are decent but not stellar. The creamed corn is yummy, the potatoes are good enough that you don't need the gravy and the green beans are edible, but I'm not a green bean fan. They will give you refills on any of the accessories you need, but don't bother ordering too much extra because you can only take home chicken (and biscuits if you didn't eat them all) when you leave.

If you were smart enough to save room for dessert then I recommend the banana pudding. It comes with meringue on it, but I always ask for whipped cream (I need whipped cream on it!) and its deeeeeeeeeeeelish. My friends are fans of the pineapple upside down cake too.

This is a last meal on earth kind of place.  Babe's has the big wooden tables & waiters that are friendly.  There are no menu's-choose from:  fried chicken, chicken fried steak, smoked chicken, fried catfish, pot roast, or chicken tenders PLUS green salad & unlimited sides of mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, and the addicting biscuits (with BUTTER & HONEY) that I can't get enough of.  It is so much fun to go with a big group- say 10 people and watch them stack up the chicken fried steaks & fried chicken all on one gigantic platter!

You will probably be much too full for dessert, but you can split entrees at babe's- they will just charge you for a "veggie plate" which is a good deal.  Their desserts are really good like chocolate meringue pie or banana pudding.  YUM!!

I have never been disappointed with babe's.

I took a weekend trip to Dallas with my boyfriend who used to live there. The first place we ate for dinner was at Babe's. I liked is so much we went back another night.  I had the chicken tenders one night and the pot roast another night.  The creamed corn, beans and mashed potatoes were great and the biscuits were delicious.  I could do without the salad, as the lettuce was just iceberg and sort of wilty but the dressing was good!

The service was great and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are in someone's kitchen! I wish they would open one in Chicago!

I am a huge lover of fried chicken and Babe's has the best fried chicken ever! The flavors of the spices are just right and the texture of the skin and meat are perfect! Add that with the fantastic spread of endless sides they offer and you've got yourself an awesome restaurant! The restaurant itself is decorated like a barn complete with faux chickens perched on some of the rafters, watching you eat their brethern. While I have to admit that I've had better green beans, mashed potatoes, and biscuits elsewhere, the creamed corn cannot be beat! I would come back here again and again for just the fried chicken and corn! The waitress suggested that we order another meat next time we come but I don't know if I can order anything else but that delicious fried chicken!

(not the actual place i went, but since I cant post another review on the roanoke one, this will have to do)

I'm sad to say it but i have no desire to eat here ever again, or for at least a loooooong while, so off to the no list you go

babes, you have died in my eyes, i have really seen the truth about this place, and I can sense an attitude about this place that is getting far from customer friendly, I'll explain:

I feel like im in a factory when i sit down and order, they get so much business the waitresses just slap the food on your table, i feel like im on a conveyor belt with food being plopped down in front of me,

yes this place may be a dive, but the service was always good, but now they are simple too nonchalant, and unfriendly in their haste, and unfriendliness is about the worst feeling you can get in a restaurant, it ruins everything

Now after quite a few times, here, and i really notice the flaws in this place that before were unimportant, but now they are easily evident:

The food is nothing special, and thee chicken seems to be more bready, and if i wanted a 50/50 bread to meat ratio i would go to KFC,

1 The corn isnt fresh,
2 the mashed potatoes are instant,
3 the salad is only good because its all sugar,
4 there are only 2 items on the "menu", this isn't true for their other places,
5 they play the goddamn hokey pokey, very loud too
6 leaves you feeling like you are pregnant with a gorilla afterwards; you cant really do any physical activity hours after eating

I see the unbiased truth here, others are just clouded by first visits as i was too...but I have no desire to ever some here again...

Went for the first time 8/19.  Good chicken, great sides.  I have never liked creamed corn till today.  I got half a chicken.  Great crust.  I like my chicken a little dryer, but I am different.  The chicken fried steak at the table next to me looked great.  The pole beans and mash potatoes were delicious.  The biscuits were worth the trip.  I coould eat them with just the gravy on them.  The evil young waitress tempted me with the coconut cream pie and it was sinful.  Plenty to eat and after i tipped the temptress (waitress) my check was still only 20 bucks.  If this place wants to get any better they need to add sweet tea and more tables.  I went early 11:30 on sunday.  I was seated immediately.  When I letft 30 minutes later the wait was 30 minutes to be seated.  I will go back!

When people visit they invariably want to eat at some place that "screams Texas". If you stuff their faces with BBQ and they are still clamoring for more, there is only one cure....load up the car and proceed directly to Babe's.

Babe's is a bit off the beaten path in an older part of Carrollton but you can't miss the collection of cars parked all over the place and the nice, elderly gentleman in the yellow vest trying to cram in one more gigantic SUV into the lot. Babe's is first come/first served and you WILL wait, unless you get there as the doors open, but this gives you a chance to build your appetite, and you will be thankful.

Babe's specializes in down-home Southern comfort food served family style. There are 6 entrees on the menu, all done well. Your party gets salad, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans and fresh-baked biscuits in large bowls that will take up most of the space on the table. The chicken fried steak is delicious and bigger than your head. Top it off with free flowing gravy and you have a treat that will delight your taste buds and stomach alike. They also have desserts , which I understand are awesome ,but the elastic on my pants only expands so far, so I have never been able to enjoy one on top of this hefty meal.

I must warn you about one thing, however. Babe's is the "Anti-Red Bull". Your belly will be so full and content that you can kiss off any hopes of being productive the rest of the day. Of course, your visitors will feel the same way so you won't have to schlep them around sight-seeing for awhile. Ah, yet another bonus!

Babe's has been voted the best fried chicken in Dallas, and there's definitely a reason.  If you're hankerin' for some down home-cookin' and aren't into pretense, this is the place for you.  They don't have menus and don't need them - their entrees are limited (but do reach further than fried chicken).  Sides consist of salad, green beans, cream corn, mashed potatoes and gravy and biscuits, all served family style.  All you can eat of the sides but only one helping of the entree, please.  It's a bit loud, and the quarters are so close that you can't help but overhear the conversation at the table next to you which sometimes makes for great entertainment.  The deserts are first-class; the lemon pie is very close to my grandmothers' made-from-scratch lemon pie that I've been looking for all my life.  I've heard the hot chocolate pie is a winner also, but I'm not a chocolate pie fan.  Word to the wise:  If you go on the weekend, be prepared for a long wait unless you like to eat very early.  I've been to all the locations except the one in Garland, and they're all the same - go early, eat much and leave happy!

Oh man, do I heart Babe's.

It's a little bit country-style.  It's a little hokey.  It's a little farmhand.  It's not fancy.  The food certainly isn't fancy.

But the food is freakin' brilliant.

You choose your meat (this location expands on the Roanoke original location's half a fried chicken or chicken fried steak.  This location also has chicken fingers, smoked chicken, brisket, and I believe turkey) and they keep on bringin' the sides.  Mashed potatos, slaw, greenbeans, cornbread, all that.  And the meat portion is nothin' to sneeze at.  This isn't half of some underfed little scrappy chicken.  I'm a big guy, and I definitely have to work on finishing my food here, if you're eating sides too.

Dirty cheap.  Totally simple.  Totally comfort food.

If you don't walk out of Babe's with foodbaby, you didn't eat at Babe's.
