Best adult toy and book store I've been to. I'd recommend it to anyone. There is no sleaziness here. It's well lit, spacious, has lots of female customers, and cute displays. Most of the time the people working there are well informed, but not always so do your research! Sometimes they're so busy I can't get help at all. That's great for them. She not only helped me decide which toy to buy she also gave me tips on usage, cleaning and retention as well as waranty information and when their next sale was going to be.
Since i didn't want to buy without the approval of the other i was buying said toy for she put it on hold for me since it was only one of two left and she directed me to the internet where i could find images of that toy to send to the friend in question.

I'd ordered from their online site before, but never been to the physical store itself. While it was way smaller than I imagined, it's laid out really well, has tons of selection, and everything is priced fairly. The displays are adorable and designed to encourage the testing of most products.
Cute, super friendly staff who are insanely knowledgeable. They provide cleaning instructions and even test the product you're purchasing at the counter to ensure it works properly.

I have to write a review, if only to respond to the ridiculous claim that Babes in Toyland -- now "Babeland" -- is heterophobic.
I first shopped there with my boyfriend, and made subsequent visits with different paramours. Babeland was terrific each time. They always welcomed us immediately upon entering the store, and then gave us the space to explore the store and the testers without embarrassment.

What a great find! I had seen their website and was lucky enough to be able to pop in for a look-see. Their store is clean, the staff educated and open, and their prices aren't terribly high. They stand behind their products with a warranty system, depending on the product, and they are more than willing to talk about their products honestly. Sometimes I feel like you walk into a sex shop and suddenly you want a shower....this place was really sex-positive and the salesperson helping me was really good at showing me things I might not have experienced before.
I ended up grabbing a few different things (the massage candles are AMAZING-- the rice flower one smells amazing and the oil is perfect for a special night) and ended up spending less than $75 on great quality products that I know I will enjoy for a while. I'm headed back there later this week to do some exploring with the man. I know we'll find something fun to fool around with ;)
This was the first "Official First Sex Toy Store de-Cherry-ing" I went to when I became legal. When we went up to Seattle way back when, we were walking around Cap Hill when we spotted the store and walked in...taking the men with us (which ended up being a nice little how-comfortable-are-you kind of gauge, by the way). Great setup, everything is nicely laid out, testable before you buy.** Display dildoes are out and easily fondled, test vibrators have the battery power, sample condoms have been unrolled. Babeland is like FAO Schwartz for the sex-positive. The amount of products they manage to stack into their relatively small Capitol Hill location is truly astounding. Every (or almost every) item they sell has a "sample" strapped to a table somewhere, so you can size, vibrate, slap, jiggle, flog, and lube your way to a perfect purchase. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and non-judgemental - all good factors when talking to a stranger about your sex life.
Sure, they're a bit pricy, and some of their selections (like the BDSM toys) are less than impressive. There's a couple less-than-durable-seeming items here, but with this much variety you're bound to get a couple duds. Where they miss the mark, for me, is the leather good and rope section. I mean, sure, they HAVE it, but it's a half measure. Some of the floggers are good, and the spreader bars are solid, but the rope is a lame poly blend, and the selection of anything beyond floggers in the flagellation's department is an exorcise in futility. That coupled with a limited space brings the place down a bit.
