Word of caution, don't come here with your Mom. I made that mistake.
This place is great, but it only gets four out of five because I wish it had a better selection (I usually buy this stuff on the internet). I did come here to stock up on a ton of "special" things for my sister's bachelorette party, and they loaded me up with tons of free condoms, AND it was customer appreciation day so I got a great free T-shirt!

So my experience with Adult Sexucation has taken me to the LES and to a place that is actually a "pleasure" to go into without feeling gross or disgusted.
Babeland is all about toys, books, movies and just exploring for that certain something that maybe was on your mind. I was interested in what they possibly could have and it was fun to search around. I know the question is did I purchase anything?
Nope, but if your in the neighborhood, it is always a fun place to go. An Adult toy store if you will. Full of surprises and of course the perfect place to pick-up some "stuff" for that Bachelor or Bachelorette party you have been invited too or for just some thrills of your own.
They are very friendly, clean and not at all what you would expect this type of store to be.
Bring friends its more fun that way.

My co-worker raved about this place and then preceded to tell me about all the little goodies she bought. I was very intrigued but a little hesitant to go. I am so glad I got up enough courage to go inside because to my surprise it was an enjoyable, comfortable experience. It was definitely a first for me. The staff was so friendly and helpful- they really know their stuff. I wasn't sure how you use all the toys but it was sure fun looking.

babeland has a small selection, decent prices, and very friendly/helpful staff. and if this was your first time stepping into a sex toy store, then i understand the giddiness of buying a dildo in such a pretty, modernly-designed, "clean" looking place.
but the truth is, babeland is to sex toys like H&R block is to accounting like mcdonald's is to food. (i know--kind of a fucked up simile!) it's sort of like the fast food of sex toy stores--kinda generic, homogenized, and just okay stuff. so with that said, it's great for shopping for friends, gifts, bachelorette parties and the like.
but if you're really interested in kinking up your bedroom and are kinda passed the novelty of owning your very first vibrator, then you could probably pass babeland and hit something on christopher street instead! (bring out the gimp!)

This place was a nice size and had a very helpful staff. This is a fun place to go if you're looking to educate (there are books and also classes offered often) or have some good old fashioned fun ; )
The staff has no problems opening up cases and showing you how things are supposed to work and making an effort to give you useful information and their opinions.
This place didn't feel the need to hide itself or have tired raunchy toys. The website is also easy to navigate but it could use a makeover.
This store is great cause it doesn't give you that "sleezy nympho person" feeling that shopping in The Village adult shops kind of induces. Comfortable atmosphere and you get to test out the products cause they put out samples that you can turn on and feel and all that jazz. The staff people are also really friendly and informative and they dont give you that "judging eye." One downside is that the products are quite expensive and you can probably find it online for cheaper, which is why I minused one star. But definitely the place to go with your significant other if you're looking to spice things up.
Overall: Organized, chic setup, informative, large selection, and fun for all.

If I were to suggest any particular places for procuring adult toys, one of them would be Toys in Babeland (the others would be Cherries on St. Marks and Goodvibes.com ...though honestly, it doesn't really matter where you get them from, as long as they're in sealed packages and not used :P).
But yeah. I like Babeland particularly because of the staff. Any hole-in-the-wall place can carry 15 thousand varieties of dildos, but it makes a difference when you have comfortable, friendly, knowledgeable (stop laughing), and I'm pretty sure mostly female staff who don't make you feel embarrassed for actually walking in there in the first place. And they even give recommendations, if you're ballsy enough to ask for advice.
It's a little out of the way to get to, but definitely worth a look if you're shopping for a bridal shower gift or something. :)

I thought maybe I'd be uncomfortable going into a store like this but the store people made the atmosphere really welcoming and there's a lot to look at. Found a few thing for me and the missus to try. If she's happy I'm happy. They employees are very helpful and didn't make us feel at all embarrassed for not knowing what to do with some oddly shaped vibrating thingamagiggies.
Since the dawn of ages, young boys have been waiting for nudie magazine day and to go into seedy sex shops full of glory holes and well, science knows what else. Babeland, my friends, is not that type of place. This IS the place where you can take the love of your life and not feel uncomfortable walking in and out of a store that sells dildos, anal beads, and other contraptions such as whips and chains and this triangle looking thing that you sit on. I think this place is awesome and really gives a good face to an industry that sometimes thrives and is known for its seediness. Hip hip hooray (for intercourse)!

Really the very best adult toy store. Run by and for women. Everything is availble to see and touch. They'll give you valuable advice, including what types of batteries are best. It doesn't have that sleazy depraved gay porn feel of most adult toy stores. Also the prices are amazing! Ladies, keep your big bills in your wallet and just go buy the honeydog or honeybear.

The people that work here are warm and friendly and the goal is to provide superior customer service. Zagat's doesn't lie! The goal of Babeland is to be welcoming to all people and lifestyles. Go to one of their fabulous workshops and you will really get a lot out of it. They also have some of the best "woman friendly/less misogonystic" porn around. They are handpicked by the employees of the store and you will also find some hard to find titles here as well. You can rent the DVDs..so no need to drop a lot of money..and membership is free. They also have the biggest condom selection and lube selection I have ever seen in my life. I highly recomend Vivid condoms and Maximus lubricant btw :)

A general review of the whole Babeland opperation (not just SoHo, becausee I've shopped in Seattle, LES, SoHo and online)... They are the real deal. This store provides great info for both guys and girls on exploring their fantasies... It isn't the typical cheesy sex shop feel. One of my friends took me to a class a while back in Seattle (I won't name which one), and it was EXTREMELY informative and fun. Sure there was a bit of the giggling and 12 year old crap, but they provided amazing info that I still take to heart. I recommend them on all levels.

This is a great place to go...for women. So many dildos here, it's insane. I can see why people would like it. It's a pretty nice place inside, but it doesn't seem like anything particularly special. It's definitely a change of pace for when you're shopping in SoHo or showing out of towners around. But, I didn't stay any longer than 5 minutes before I lost interest. Once again, it's a really good place to go for girls, but from my point of view it's not worth going to. So this review is for 20-something guys.

Things that are awesome: the women who work there, the lack of creepy dudes, the HUGE selection of toys to cover pretty much any need and/or desire you may have, and the friendly atmosphere. Also they throw wicked parties/events. They offer classes on Anal Sex 101 and The Art of the Blowjob, amongst other things.
Go there, be open, honest, and candid, and you will leave with a thing or two that will guarantee as many orgasms as you can handle. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The staff is very knowledgeable and wants to help you help yourself. You can buy a fancy design vibrator for $400 that does a million things, or a simple beginner's vibe for $20 that still does the trick, amazingly well. There are many, many things in between.
Also they sell a keychain/flashlight/vibrator for $12. I think I'm going to end this review on that.

There's no seedy, sleeze or creep factor to this store. Somehow we ended up in here en route to the great Cendrillon (see: http://www.yelp.com/bi... ), two doors down. I was enticed and curious not because I knew what was inside, but the entrance is clear glass looking into a bright orange foyer, which seemed like a big waste of space. I thought it was just another boutique. Well it was. But just not what I was expecting...

I have been to both Babeland stores in NYC and this one is definitely better and bigger. Though both stores carry pretty much the same items, the SoHo location's staff are more helpful.
I like the fact that you get to touch everything and turn it on and feel the latex or material on your skin. I also like the fact that I got to slap my male friend in the face with one of the "life like" pieces. That was the highlight of our visit.
The staff are very explanatory and try to help you if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. And they also remember to offer you batteries at the register.

As a dude, this place isn't quite as exciting as I imagine it must be for women (given the reviews). It's cute and friendly and not sleazy at all.
They let you sample everything and I learned that I can't tell the difference in lubes no matter how many I tried. The condom singles are fun and cheap.
I did feel a little odd since I was the only guy and there is perpetually a gaggle of women playing with toys that go VRRRR. But then again, I can't really think of a better place to buy condoms, so...

What makes Babeland different from most sex shops is the fact that it is run by women. It is a very clean and brightly lit store with merchandise that is arranged in an organized fashion. There are informational cards located near some of the products that aid you in your selection. The staff is also very helpful and nonjudgmental. On a side note, I wouldn't recommend buying BDSM toys from here because they can be overpriced. They do have a wide selection of lubes including my personal favorite Liquid Silk. I've gotten many friends to switch from KY to this wonderful UK import.

Babeland is a surprising sex shop. Browsing through the assortments of dildos and butt plugs feels naughty, rather than dirty. The staff has excellent product knowledge, and has perfected the art of being helpful, without being intrusive.
Between the instructional books and videos, and the kinky sex toys, everyone from the voyeur to the longtime sex worker will find something useful and entertaining.
Though the vibe is definitely female-friendly, it isn't unfriendly towards males. After all, somebody's gotta buy and wear the condoms Babeland sells.

Wow. This was my most comfortable and pleasant experience in a sex shop. The staff is extremely helpful and willing to advise customers on what works best. The displays were oddly tasteful and well set up. You can touch the toys and handle them. I went with my boyfriend and it was a fun, enjoyable date for both of us. The atmosphere is comfortable and lacks the seediness common to most sex shops. This is a great place for an unconventional shopping date with your significant other. When we were ready to buy the staff explained the toy and advised us on how long batteries last, something I forgot to ask. They sold us a pack of ten watch batteries for three dollars.
It is a somewhat female oriented shop, with about one male toy for every three female.
Babeland takes the dirty connotations out of sex and instead encourages healthy sexuality.
I will keep coming here and coming here for more ;)

A nice departure from the typical NYC sex shop. Women owned and operated this is a perfect place for those who are timid or uncomfortable going into the usual dirty looking establishments in this city. Everything is displayed plesantly and organized into easy to find sections. They make it very easy to see exactly what you are getting. The staff is helpful and welcoming and don't make you feel looked over or embarrased. The selection is good and the products are all quality tested and garuteed. They also offer a number of classes and workshops (I've never personally attended one) that always sound interesting. Right now, Babeland's shops are by far the best women- friendly sex shops in New York. The products are quality, and best of all the staff is usually super helpful and honest about what will work for you and what wont.
I've long been a devotee of the Rivington location, so I wanted to give this one a go and see what the deal was.What I found were about the same products in a much larger, chic, almost chasm -like lofty space. Now, I love me some Babeland, but for me this location lacked the warmth that I was used to behind the fabric curtains of the Rivington location. Perhaps they were understaffed, but the two women manning the store seemed a bit too busy to offer that ubiquitous Babeland gold star service. This was understandable considering there was a short bald guy buying half the damn store, but still , a little guidance would have prevented me from wasting my cash on a toy that was so...um, unsuitable.
I doubt that I will be going to this location again unless I'm in the area and know exactly what I want. Maybe I'm an old fashion girl but I think sex shops just shouldn't be lit like or feel like cold department stores.

I was down in Soho with my cousin shopping for clothes/shoes and we were headed to Le Pain Quotidien on Grand for a caffeine fix. We went out the back side of Pearl River and saw Babeland...no idea what it was but, we had to go in. The name, Babeland, was too intriguing to pass up. I Have to say, we were both a little out of our element and very intimidated. We looked around in silence too scared to ask questions or even begin to imagine what all that stuff was for...you know, the Catholic school girl thing. After 20 very uncomfortable minutes, the girl asked if we needed any help?? She had noooooooo idea how much help we needed! so we asked her where is a good place to start w/ some of this stuff? There was no way at that point, we were going to fink out and run. I don't think we really had to tell her we were novices. She was sweet and kept her game face on. She was also very helpful and took the embarrassment out of the whole shopping experience. So we bought her recommendations...we had nothing to lose!
I must say that my cousin's DH can't wait to send his wife back to NYC...He said that gift surely beat out the Art of Shaving gift set she usually brings back. I can't say that my DH did much complaining either!

Babeland is a first-rate operation. Whenever I go there, I am able to browse around and not feel "watched" or goaded into buying something by some perky, pushy sales girl. The women who work their are friendly, without being "too" friendly....if you know what I mean.
They leave you alone, but also offer help, if needed.
I have bought some great toys there, and their selection is very good.
Some of their prices are a bit high....but they do have astronomical rent to pay, I'm sure.

I came here once to purchase a gift for a friend's bachelorette party. I was so impressed with the helpful, friendly, knowledgeable staff. The store itself was so cute and adorable, I didn't even feel the slightest bit shady shopping there for a vibrator.
Suffice it to say, I came back to buy myself a present after the bachelorette party was over. As a woman, I would never shop at another adult store. You will feel comfortable, happy, and not-embarrassed to shop here for all of your adult-toy needs.

What an amazing place!
The staff is so friendly, although possibly overly so, they were definitely talking a lot longer to one guy then he wanted them to be.
The stuff is all displayed really nicely with little tags, and everything has batteries so you can test how they work... uh, with your hands.

Looking for a swanky soho sex shop? Toys in Babelan is the perfect fit - the salesclerks are well versed in the ways of nervous sex-toy shopper, and the gi-normous downtown pad store offers far larger variety of literature and goodies than it's lower east side cousin.
