This place really is as good as it gets. Prior to my Babeland experience (now experiences), I was under the impression that the sex toy industry had two distinct branches--the seedy stores with creepy patrons and neon-lit signs, or those annoying at-home parties, a la Pampered Chef, that your friend who also enjoys scrapbooking but wants to let the world know she has a naughty side too invited you to. Ick either way. I always braced myself and went for the seedy stores, planning out what I needed ahead of time and making it quick.

And then Babeland entered my life. For once, this is a place where you can leisurely browse, play with things, and take some time to seriously contemplate whether you want under-the-bed or over-the-door restraints. No judgment, no creepiness, just helpful, kind women who are thoughtful enough to remind you to use water-based lubricant on a silicone toy. Things I never would have considered. The people who work there are truly helpful.

I have been here both alone and with my boyfriend and we have always considered it not just an enjoyable shopping experience, but also a sexually uplifting one. This is a place where sexuality is open, celebrated, and most of all, fun. Whether you're buying your first vibrator or you're looking to diversify your sexual menu with a partner, make the trip to Babeland first and I promise you will leave happy and excited. It's worth the money.

Helpful employees and lots of toys to play with. It is oh so nice to have this place in Brooklyn!!! They have workshops here and sometimes there are free little sampler classes.

Y'know, I've been holding off on my 100th Yelp review because I wanted to write something that was positive, local and reasonably relevant to my quality of life. That's taken a while, because a lot of my great experiences recently have been out of town or in places I already love and already reviewed. And here comes Babeland to the rescue.

Babeland just opened up their fourth store in my neighborhood. And if there's ever a boutique, specialty store that I NEEEED in my neighborhood, it's a good sex shop. I don't have dogs, so the 6 different yuppie puppy places can shutter themselves without affecting my quality of life. I don't eat frozen yogurt, so the dozen places with "fro" and/or "yo" in the names and bright orange and green window graphics bore me. Designer baby stores? Pffft. If I had a baby, I'd sell it to Michael Jackson so I could make rent.

But Babeland? Babeland is an awesome neighborhood feature.  Now I'll never need to spend a buzzkill of an hour on the round trip subway ride to get decent lube. And they stock a variety of good quality condoms! My nearest bodega has a bad habit of melting and refreezing their ice cream, so I don't exactly trust them with the little latex guardians of my childfree lifestyle. Babeland has air conditioning and a competent staff.

Their toy selection is one of the world's best.  Most items in stock are very high quality (and appropriately priced) and geared towards women and men who know what they want. Newcomers and cheapskates might want to start by buying a bunch of inexpensive toys from somewhere cheap & sleazy and then come back to Babeland when they know WHY they really need the $90+ elastomer Rabbit Habit. (It's because the elastomer is hypoallergenic and the Japanese manufacturer is to Doc Johnson what Peter Luger is to McDonalds.) If you're eyeballing anything in the less-than-$50 range here, there's a good chance you can get the same item for much less elsewhere -- the Orchid G wand is $22 from Babeland, or $3-$8 at roadside sex shops in Pennsyltucky or $10-$12 at lower profile shops in Chelsea.

So how does Babeland Brooklyn compare to the Manhattan counterparts?
- The staff is friendly and greeted us with a smile when we entered.
- The toy displays are as tidy and user friendly as in the LES and SoHo stores. After 10 days of people shoving their grubby hands in the artificial vaginas, the Fleshlights here are just as filthy as the ones on Rivington. (I have to admit, I did it too. "Penis envy" wasn't really in my vocabulary until that toy.)
- The seriously boutique-y, pricey designer vibes need to be plugged in or have operating batteries at all times. Who's gonna buy a $130 vibe if they don't know how strong it is?
- The reading selection needs some work. Mainly, there isn't one.
- The store feels more sterile than their other locations. Maybe it's the cold, white paint. Maybe it's just that it's so new. (Nope. Pretty sure it's the paint.)

I normally do my toy shopping online, but who in their right mind can resist a Babeland practically around the corner? Well, I know a few people who could, but I certainly appreciate the fact that there's a VERY accessible Brooklyn hub now (right down the block from the 2 train).

Out of all the sex shops I've been to (and those of you who frequent the Village know there are a LOT of them), Babeland is most definitely the cleanest, brightest, and most well-organized. The staff is extremely helpful and informative, and actually surprised me at the amount of advice they offered at what I assumed was a "left field" question.

Their stock was a little low the first time I went to this one, but then again that's expected, since it was the day after their opening party. One of the ladies was awesome though - I had cleared the shelf of a certain party favor, and she went to the back to hunt down the extras I needed.

I like their vibe and dildo selection. It's not terribly extensive (haha), but you can actually handle the products and see what they're like out of the package before making any choices. That's a big plus, since most other sex shops just make you decide based on what it looks like in the package. Feel and function are much more important factors, and the ladies here know that.

I wish they had more of a book selection though. There were maybe...five titles available, and none of them looked remotely interesting.

Oh, and they sell watch batteries MAD cheap (i.e. don't bother going to a watch shop for replacements).

this is the brooklyn branch of the babeland adult shop francise. I went in here yesterday for the first time. It is alot smaller than the soho and les shops which i tend to frequent more often. The salesgirl was helpful, the store is generally less crowded, but they had a smaller selection of inventory. still i'm glad that there is one near my house (if only there was a brooklyn red-light district.)

there is nothing like a classy sexy toy shop to make me appreciate life. a little pricey, and small, which gives a chance for the items that they do have room to breathe. i loved that it was so clean and neat. nothing ruins a good trip for sex stuff faster than a dirty, sketchy place. (picture a dude with a bad teenage mustache and a leer) all the sales girls were helpful and friendly, but not too awkwardly in your face. a great place to get ideas, and a great place to buy 'embarrassing' presents for shy friends.
