As an ex-box office rep here, I can tell you with some authority that this is a charming place to work, and this place has some damn good theatre.  One of my favorite things about the B Street is that they have so much variety--the mainstage usually offers a variety of lighthearted comedies, the B3 series offers more avant garde, edgy dramas, and then of course, there's the series for children's theatre!  I have rarely found such a well rounded offering of entertainment in one place.

The performances are always solid, if not totally amazing, and they always have interesting contemporary shows.  If you're in Sacramento, this is a worthy playhouse to subscribe to.  Truly.

EDIT: I don't know who clicked "funny" on this one, but thanks for humoring me.  How sweet.

Awesome venue to bring your children to see a show. The staff are friendly, the theater is clean and every seat in the house is a perfect seat.

On a last-minute whim, I brought our four year old daughter here to see a theatrical production of "Go, Dog. Go!" We didn't have tickets or reservations but were told to patiently wait and there might be some no-shows. Sure enough, we lucked out and got great seats, front row center.

The theater is so small and intimate that there is little division between the actors and the audience. This was particularly engaging to our daughter who wound up actively participating and interacting. The performers were very sweet and charming to the children in the audience and the production was entertaining and clever.

Our son also attended the same show later with his school and had positive things to say about his experience at the theater.

I'll be looking into season tickets in the future. Support the arts!

P.S. Do you like my hat?

I'm going to play devil's advocate here. Too many five star raves - let's get real folks. It's a great place to see some interesting local productions. Intimate setting, great seats all around.

The downsides are the plays can be very uneven - I've seen truly great performances, but a couple have been so bad that we walked out at intermission. The train runs about a foot away from the back wall, and there has been about one per every show I've been to, which is well into the double digits.  The audience tends to be 90% blue hair - so they are playing to a crowd who developed their sensibilities in the 1950's and 1960's - take that for what it's worth.

On the other hand if you like local theater B-Street is much better than most under-200-seat-playhouses. Prices are decent, you can drink a glass of vino between sets. The lines for the bathroom can be several minutes long for the ladies.  B-Street can be a lot of fun, or a couple hours of mind-bending boredom.

I highly recommend both the B and the B3 series'. I've thoroughly enjoyed both. The shows are insightful and entertaining. While prices are pretty standard for Sac, they can be a bit pricey for poor students. If that is you, make sure you hit the pre-release shows (usually around 1/2 price).

The seating in the B theater is a big rectangle around the stage (almost no bad seats!). The seating in the B3 theater is a little tight, and they're usually packed, so be ready to cozy up to some strangers! Also, if you're going to the B3, make sure you specify that you DO NOT want the bar stool seats. I've never gotten them, but the people in those seats always look wildly uncomfortable.

Make sure you get there early for parking, as both the lot and the street-side parking fills up in the 15 minutes before the show starts. If you're physically able, I'd recommend parking street-side and walking a few yards further. The parking lot turns into a mini-madhouse when the show gets out.

Go and support local, good theater!

I've been to 6-7 shows at B St, and they are consistently well-performed and surprisingly funny.  I'll be honest, my girlfriend had to drag me a couple of times, because you don't always recognize the name or plot of the play - but be adventurous, and try one of their plays.

If you have kids (I don't), I've heard that their children's plays are great; they won't like the adult plays though, so get a sitter.  And if you're heavy into the theatre scene they have a B3 series of more challenging stories.

My favorite part - every seat in the house is close to the performance.  The front row is right up against the stage.  It's addictively fun being this close to the action, and now I don't want to go to another theatre where I'd be so separated from the performance.

I have seen at least a dozen shows at B Street, and have never been disappointed. Usually, I'm not familiar with the play at all before I go, and they are always great.

The venue is small, and there are no bad seats. Often times, you can even score a couple of tickets for a same day performance. Prices are pretty standard for Sacramento (about $30), and there is a small student discount.

It's a great theater, and the plays I've seen there have been wonderfully done.   You can't compare it to a big league production, but if you did, it would compare favorably.

Small, cozy theatre next to/behind a small city baseball field.

I've seen one performance so far, although my sister frequents this theatre.  Performances are well done.

A childrens theatre is right next door.

One of Sacramento's most important art places. The B St. is easily the best theatre that can be found in Sacramento. It puts on professional, new work  plays. I do not want to detract from the work of other venues, but the plays that the B St. puts on are in a higher class. Their shows are well worth the cost.

B Street is fantastic.  They put on great and usually hilarious shows and the acting is superb.  We have been subscribers here for about 2 years and keep going back even though we now live in Oakland.
