Almost 4 years ago when I was 37, I decided I didn't want to be a fat 40 year old. I walked down the stairs and met Eddie Croft, owner of B Street Boxing . . . and I reached my goal! :) I was able to do ALMOST one push up on my first day. After 6 months, I was down 2 dress sizes! My weight didn't change much though in the beginning because I was gaining muscle. Now I'm down 4 sizes and I love my arms (something I never thought I'd say!)!

The staff and members are welcoming, helpful, and there to get or stay in shape. I thought I would be embarrassed by how out of shape I was in the beginning, but I got positive reinforcement and encouragement from everyone. It's not a place to socialize and dress in cute workout gear; it's a place to get the most out of an hour workout and SWEAT!!  I recommend that the ladies take their makeup off before taking a class because it will only cause acne and makeup running down your face is never pretty! Haha! There is camaraderie with the other members and the instructors are very knowledgeable.

B Street Boxing has given me a whole new outlook on life (sounds cheesy, but it's true) and has enabled me to really love working out regularly which keeps me in shape! I love it to pieces and highly recommend giving it a try to see if it is something that you will enjoy as well.

BEST boxing place you can go to!!!!!
The staff is amazingly nice enough to make you feel good about yourself so instead of not coming back again and makes you want to come back and mean enough to want to push yourself harder.  :))  They are very friendly, knowledgeable and patient.  I like the fact that B Street boxing is underground & gives it a private feel to it and the members are also friendly and not there to judge you or make you feel any less.  It's so much FUN and it's the only workout that has helped me feel and see results.  I stopped going for a few months & it was a big mistake so I'm back (back to stay) I have taken anything from bootcamp to gym classes and nothing has helped like B Street Boxing.  I love this place and plan to keep it as part of my lifestyle.   Although they do have members there that do this as a career and partake in fighting matches to compete and win... there is also room there for people like me who do it for fun, maintain weight and to keep a healthy lifestyle.

If I could give it 10 stars

My husband and I were looking for a gym and found B street on yelp. There's a nearer gym but I'm glad we drove the extra miles for B street. Eddie the owner and trainer are truly the nicest person and very professional.I like how there are a few trainers  other than Eddie that provide us a different workout everyday, they are all really professional.Thank you B street for making it so easy for me to want to go everyday :-)

Eddie is an OG and this place is the best. I've been coming here for nearly a year now and love it.

All the instructors are very helpful and passionate about what they teach. This isn't just some soccermom-infested cardio pseudoboxing gym, however. B Street has its fighters such as professional boxer Melissa McMorrow (former Golden Gloves champion) and Golden Gloves finalist Clinton Nelson and a stable of amateur fighters as well. Sparring is open to people that want to do so and if you want to become a fighter, Eddie will have you in fighting shape.

First week is free, come try out a workout session and leave feeling like a badass.

Rid yourself of your cinema-fueled preconceptions about dark, dingy, odor-laden underground cave-like gyms with coaches that don't smile nor communicate in any utterance but loud, barking remarks, and an occupancy of strictly beefy, mean-lookin' dudes.  This surprisingly well-lit, colorful, and welcoming gym is definitely for anybody and everybody.

The owner of the gym, Eddie, is extremely friendly and knows every single person that comes into his gym by name.  Chances are, you'll be feeling like friends before the end of your first session.  Although he trains professional fighters, he isn't going to make you feel lame for knowing zero about boxing technique upon entering his gym.  He's patient, and he'll work with you until you get it right.

And, let's be honest; going to a regular gym - running on a treadmill, using the elliptical, stationary bike, free weights, etc - is BORING.  We put up with the monotony with the hopes of a tighter tummy and a perky bum (male equivalent: six-pack and guns?), but wouldn't you rather spend your work-out hour doing something fun?  At the end of the hour at B-Street you'll be dripping with sweat, smiling, and feeling accomplished.

Although the monthly membership is about $100, the rest of the fixin's (gloves, hand wraps, equipment, etc.) are provided for you.  In addition, you'll get at least a little bit of 1-on-1 attention every time you go.  Totally worth it, in my humble opinion.  And, I mean, even more worth it when you compare it to a regular gym membership that you'll stop using when your New Years resolution enthusiasm wears off and that membership card starts collecting dust in the back of your wallet.  Trust me, you'll want to keep coming back to B-Street.

Gilbert and the marital arts program at B Street is the best!! His ability to make complicated moves seem easy is great. Also, he is really good working with kids and members of all ability levels. Highly recommended!

This place is legit. If you want to box then this is the place to do it. This is the only place I would go in the bay area to learn how to box. The kids class spars almost every day and I recommend that class if you guys are serious about boxing. If you just want to lose the calories then join the adult class which doesn't spar. Those classes are in the afternoon and at night.

Being a smallish yet somewhat physically fit guy I was looking to introduce a new type of exercise to my normal routines. I was looking for something that would focus more on upper body since my running and cycling has made my chicken legs into a nice set of getaway sticks but the upper part of my body was very lacking. Backing that up was my fairly off-the-cuff and sarcastic mouth, that has gotten me into trouble a few times but thankfully not too seriously yet, and the need to be able to at least defend myself if/when the opportunity should arise. Boxing seemed a great fit.

I looked around a bit at a few different boxing and martial arts gyms. Some were way too intense (picture Bloodsport ala Van Damme) where I'd be scared to walk into the place or scared to become that way. Some were "cardio" boxing type places where, no offense, sparing with a soccer mom didn't seem like the best way to get tough. B Street had a perfect mix of friendly and professional coaches but still with a very real boxing gym atmosphere and curriculum. You learn all the technique and get a great workout to boot.

This place is absolutely incredible. I can honestly say that the workout I got from the boxing classes I took were the most effective workouts I have ever had in my life.
I took classes from Freddie, Dan, and Tarek...all get 5 stars for teaching as well. They were incredibly supportive. All three not only taught the class impeccably but they still took the time to help students individually in terms of form correction.
As for the boxing workout itself...I have never been so sore in my life. But to know that you got through the hour workout is so satisfying and empowering.
So whatever gym membership you have now...do yourself a favor, cancel it and start taking classes at B Street boxing.

This is a great place to workout.  Eddie is an excellent instructor.  It is almost impossible to find someone who has his level of knowledge in martial arts, kickboxing, and boxing.  A very rare combination.  He has an amazing ability in breaking down skills and explaining things in a way that makes sense.  I would not hesitate to recommend B Street if you are serious about getting a great workout with excellent instruction.

Kickboxing with Dan and Shingo are also worth checking out.  You'll improve your technique and have some fun.

Awesome gym!  Great for beginners, pros, or just the regular Joe looking to knockout that beer gut  -sucks in stomach-   Been around many boxing gyms during my youth, and this place is definitely one of the most laid back spots, the trainers are really cool, great atmosphere, plenty of punching bags, fully equipped for boxing and MMA.  Great location, downtown San Mateo, surrounded by tons of restaurants to grab a bite to eat and fuel up after a workout.

Great Gym/Place!  I had the honor to train under Paul in the KB Class...He's awesome and funny....but let me tell you, Firecracker!!! Be ready to get a KILLER work out in this class!!   Only down fall for me is that their are NO kills in the class...i don't mind working with guys, but realistically, they kick and punch hard, and having another girl to pair up with would be a lot nicer...so any girls reading this, JOIN!  You will love it!  (The kickboxing class at 6:00pm)

B Street Boxing has everything you need!  The atmosphere is great.  The best day is Friday for sparring because either you get to get in the ring and try out your skills or you can watch amateurs or pros sparring for their next fight. This place is the best place to get in shape or compete from. Everyone is welcome.

If you're looking for a super high energy cross training work out, this is the place.  Miriam is a kick ass muy thai kick boxer that means business.  She is tough and knows her stuff.  Plus she has a killer ab wok out that you will feel 2 days after the session.  Talk about getting your money's worth!  And don't even think about goofing around.  The gym has a good location- right in front of the Century movie theater and lots of parking.  It is well organized and has clean dressing room and showers.  Buy your own hand wraps.  Inexpensive and worth it (+/- $15.)  Eat a small breakfast, sleep well before, and be ready to bring your A game!

got recommended to this gym by a friend who fights. b street boxing offers a " FREE" week trial. you can try out any and every class for a week. you  immediately get the feeling that this is a no BS gym as you see some amateur boxers and a few pro fighters train. Now don't get me wrong this is not Ballys or 24 hr. Fitness which could be full of meat heads, these are fighters who are disciplined and who are trying to reach their goal. All who will help encourage you to achieve your own goal weather you want to compete of just train to get into shape. I've taken eddie's, tareks, and miriams class. they all have there own style of training.

pros- the classes are intense but you can go at your own pace, if you're doing something wrong you will be corrected.  all who train here can inspire you in some way.

This place has transformed me into a completely different person.  I usually take Boxing Classes with Eddie and Muay Thai with Miriam and Fred, but feel free to try everything else this Gym has to offer and I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed.  I really like the "Old School" training feeling where you have to use jump ropes, medicine balls, and kettlebells ...etc    This place will really awaken the "inner warrior" inside of you, but you have to be really motivated and driven to make it happen.  Everyone who attends this gym is humble and super nice.  The pro fighters will actually give you advise and show you how to improve your technique when they can.  Joining this Gym was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

This underground boxing gym is led by Eddie Croft, a former professional boxer and a two-time world champion contender. Not many gyms can offer that kind of insight. Most are run by guys who were always on the sideline or had modest pro/am careers. Not to take anything away from other coaches (there are many greats who never even boxed, e.g. jazz musician and trainer of the one of the greatest undefeated middleweights ever, Enzo Calzaghe), but to train under a man who has traveled so far via jabs and hooks is an inspiration in and of itself.
Hats off to Eddie for being a TRUE scholar of the craft by staying with it. He proves that each day by sharing and offering his knowledge, time, and energy to the students of B Street.  He's always there-ALWAYS.
A message to those who aspire to compete and be world champions:
You gotta show up and push yourself- no one's gonna do that for you.
Everything you need will be here when you arrive, but it's up to you to find it. I guess that goes with just about everything.

This is the place!  I lost the stubborn last 10lbs that I could never lose.  Why because at the "gym" I lift some weights, dilly dally and what not.  The cost is approx $95.  You can go there unlimited.  I have the best abs ever and Im 32.  Im pissed I didnt look into something like this when I was younger.  If you want to pay for a personal trainer go ahead and find out how much it costs an hour ( alot more than this place).  So these people (Eddie, Fred, Miriam, Paul, Dan and others are some experienced and decorated current and former fighters)  Are you really going to get that from some schmuck personal trainer at your boring gym....NO!  Here you get personal trainers with fighting experience and what it takes to train and think like one. So Ill be getting a bumper sticker that reads " my personal trainer will kick your personal trainers ass!!" HAHA  Ok So you think this is still expensive?!?!? Fine go buy a mediocre jacket to cover up your fatass since no one wants to look at you in the summer anyway.  Dont have a Ferrari!?!?!? Me Either! My Body is my Ferrari  bwahahahaha.   Please don't let someone with washboard abs wash your significant others undergarments when it could be you!! LOL  (drying not included)
I dont know about you, but I need to look and feel good.  This is a small price to put on your body...cant put a price on it. The only reason I keep my  other gym membership bc its so damm cheap ($168 a year)and I go sit in steam and sauna only  If you ever watch boxers train or MMA people....well they train the same here.
And for you Women...yes there are some women here....and yes some pretty ones as well.  Ive tried "cardio soccer mom kick the air" kickboxing and it sucks.  The chick that teaches it at another spot told me it sucks also.  She just teaches it.  So even if you are a soccer mom or dad...do you want to look like that?? or do you want to look better?  Age gracefully people!!
When I leave this place I need a clean shirt just to walk to my car because my shirt is completely covered in sweat!
They also have clean showers in bathrooms (women and men separate) here as well if your on the go to work and what not.  Ive been going here for almost two years and I still love it.  You have to get your heart rate up people, and this place does it!  You dont have to run on the treadmill or eliptical to do cardio!! There is another way, and its here!  Additionaly I dont want a runners ostrich body!!  Furthermore long distance running is bad for your knees (don't believe me!?!? Look into it!!)
I still look young and trim and cut because of this place.  This place fights aging for sure!!  Look up thier website and classes.  Im impressed the caliber of people teaching here #1 and for the price!!  Some of you "resolutioners" will be at the gym clogging up the treadmills and what not setting yourselves up for failure.  I can sit on the treadmill for almost an hour and not burn as many calories as here.
Im telling you people go do the free week!  If you dont like it...well fine. (be sure to do 3 diff classes to get decent experience)
This isnt some knucklehead head gym either, as I sorta assumed at first in case some of you were a bit skeptical.

This is my first experience yelping also.  Its worth it because I go here every week.  Anyway I guess thats it for now!
Real trainers + real experience + real equipment used by the pro fighers = Real results

I've been doing weight training pretty consistently for a while, and wandered in cause they were doing a week free to let folks try it out. Every workout has kicked my ass and left me feeling it still days later. I joined up and I'm making it to every class I can. Eddie, the owner and instructor for the boxing classes, is a fantastic teacher and makes you feel really welcome at the gym. The other folks in the class have been awesome too. The more advanced folks are always willing to offer some helpful advice. Great place to train!

B Street boxing is to a great place to learn the fundamentals of boxing from a world class fighter and instructor. You will sweat, burn calories and learn something new each class but you do get what you put into it. Eddie keeps the class fun and challenging and will bust you out if you are caught slacking. Great gym for beginners to seasoned boxers plus there is muay thai-kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu classes all at a great price.

Came here after hearing great things about Eddie from friends. Super low-key atmosphere combined with serious training. You can take all sorts of classes from boxing to muay thai and bjj for about a hundred bucks a month which by the way is a good deal. I've been to other places where they charge you more and get less. It's minimal frills but maxed out value. Great for people looking to fight or guys who just want to get rid of their beer gut.

I love B Street Boxing! I had never tried Boxing or Muay Thai and decided to give it a shot because I was working in downtown San Mateo and after the first 2 trial lessons I was hooked and went every day for about three months until my company moved to San Francisco. Eddie is an awesome teacher with a ton of experiences as both a professional fighter and teacher. The workouts are tough but incredibly rewarding.

Eddie and Mariam are the best! They push you, but you also have to push yourself. There are A LOT of guys there, but it shouldn't stop any girls from joining! :) I know that it didn't stop me and I loved it! This place is not for aerobic kickboxing/boxing. This is the real deal. Punching bags, speed bags, mats...all that stuff. All the instructors know what they are doing and are willing to help. When i started, I didn't know what i was doing, but they pushed me and it was AWESOME!! I recommend it to everyone!
