B Fit is a blessing! I've been walking past it for months and kept saying I'd go, and I'm so glad I finally did. Having never tried barre classes before, it came as a shock how hard such tiny little movements (granted, it's the doing them 10s of times) can do for you! The workout is fantastic, the instructors have been great, and the owner, Linda, is very sweet. Such a neighborhood gem!

TUCK, TUCK, SORE ... Okay, that's not what the instructors say but it's how I feel. I have never left a class not feeling sore or woken up the next morning regretting yet craving the isometric movements of B.Fit Barre Method.  The classes are fun and energizing. The teachers are not only welcoming, but knowledgeable and encouraging, creating a community. This truly is the best workout in DC, I just wish that they were in VA.

I love Bfit! I've been going for a year plus now, and have stopped going to the gym as a result. It's a better workout then any workout I do at the gym. The classes are really fun and challenging, and I've felt stronger in my core, arms, butt - all over. I highly recommend Bfit.

I got a gift certificate from my sister for 5 classes here as a birthday gift.  It is a great little place with a group of regulars who workout there.  The classes are all pretty much the same but there is a big difference between teachers.  Some teachers push you more than others, which can be good or bad.  One teacher I had kept insisting that we put our necks in very un-natural positions during the exercises (like looking up at the top of the wall during a push-up.)  When I didn't follow directions, she pointed it out to me so I ended up with horrible neck pain for about 5 days after the class.  I am an avid yogi and a physician and feel very strongly about proper alignment to prevent injury so that is one drawback to this place.

That said, this place will give you a great workout and if you stick with it, you can see results.  I really love Barre classes and this place is great.

The one other thing I don't love is that they only have 5 lb weights for arm work.  At Fuel Pilates they also have a Barre class, which I prefer because they do a ton more reps of arm weights with 1-2 lb weights and you get a much better arm workout with longer and leaner results.

I really like the concept of this class- a ballet/pilates/yoga thing and it was really fun! This class totally kicked my butt. I'm an avid runner and dabble in other various exercise- spinning, weights and bikram yoga, so I thought it would be fun to try something new.

It would have been helpful to have more information on the website- such as no mat is needed (I hauled mine into work that day, then to class). They have sturdy workout mats for everyone. Also, why is the beginning class only offered on Friday night? I had to specifically schedule this as I normally have other plans on Friday. I was concerned about going to a "regular" class without an introduction first.

The studio is a bit small, but what do you expect for DC? There are two single bathrooms to use for changing clothes, so that's slightly inconvenient.

I was definitely sore the next day, so it worked muscles that I haven't in awhile. I'll be back for sure (and I did the new student special so I have my next class free).

I took Linda's class and it was tough! I  didn't bring my water bottle thinking it's going to be easy and boy was I surprised! She plays fun upbeat pop music as we go through each move quickly. She  works each muscle to exhaustion. The abs moves were things I've never tried before and I thought they weren't doing anything because they were so subtle. Well let me tell you the next day I could feel my abs, my triceps and the back of my legs! This workout is no joke. The workout starts with climbing 2 high staircases to get to their studio. Unfortunately it's too expensive for me to go on a regular basis otherwise I'd be a regular here.

    B. Fit is an incredible barre studio.  I will admit, I was new to barre before first trying a barre workout at B. Fit.  However, I fell in love with B. Fit's classes and instructors immediately, in addition to the barre method.  Classes are challenging and entertaining, and the teachers are knowledgeable and encouraging.  I will say working out at B. Fit has been my favorite group class experience to date.  Whether you're new to the barre method or a veteran, this is the studio for you.

This is now my neighborhood barre studio! It's just a 15 minute walk from my place, and walking up three flights of stairs to enter the studio is a nice and quick pre-barre warm up :)

Linda, the owner, is friendly and welcoming. The workout is just as intense as the other barre classes I've attended elsewhere. Pricewise, it's pretty reasonable compared to other barre studios outside of DC. I've taken about 5 classes with them so far (with 3 different instructors), and I noticed that each instructor has had her students do the "fold-over" routine. This is where you hold the bar with both hands (head and shoulders looking down) while you stand on one leg and lift the other leg in repetitions. This workout has consistently and severely kicked my butt, and I think this is a major plus for this studio. I also like the fact that it feels like a small community. The other students are friendly and would easily flash a smile at first glance.

The two down sides for me are the size of the studio and the wood floors. The studio is small and can get pretty packed on weekend mornings and weekday evenings, so I try to avoid those class times. The floors, while lovely in mahogany wood, can get slippery if you don't wear special socks that have the rubber soles.

Overall, it's a great studio, and I look forward to attending more classes with them in the future.

I have recently been trying several different barre and Pilates fuse exercise classes in DC and in NYC.  I think BFit is pretty good, although I think the teachers at some of the other places teaching bar workouts, such as the Bar Method, provide a bit more personalized instruction.  In addition, the studio is pretty cramped and not perfectly designed as a fitness place.  The workout is very similar to that of other bar classes.  Some of the exercises are clearly too tough for quite a few people in the class, and rather than provide an alternative like they do in Bar Method, the teachers show only the most advanced variations.  That said, I still enjoy the workout, and because it is convenient to my office, I am regularly going to the classes, in addition to classes at Fuse Pilates.  But I would probably go to Bar Method if it were equally convenient.

Great classes.  I've taken them with Amy and she will really kick your butt.  My only complaint is that they are small and it can get pretty crowded.  However, I love supporting small studios and hope that they can someday expand!!

If you stick to it, you'll see results after just a few classes!

B Fit is one of my favorite barre workouts to date.  The studio is intimate so you get a lot of helpful adjustments from the instructor.  I've been to a lot of barre classes where there are so many students packed into a large studio that you feel lost in there.  There is plenty of natural light coming through the windows, so you don't feel like you're at the gym, and it's in a great location, a nice stroll from the Metro Station.  The instructor I had was really enthusiastic, and gave great pointers throughout the class.  If I lived in D.C. (I'm from the bay), I'd be a regular.  I will definitely be back during my stay and next time I'm in town!!

This is definitely not a "ballet" class. This class kicks your butt, in a good way! The owner, Linda, is very welcoming and friendly. I really liked the instructor I had, Kelly. She's very intense, but I like instructors to push/motivate me.
Get there early, as the classes are very popular and fill fast. I am not aware of them turning anyone away last night, but it is a small room with limited space. I took the metro and walked from McPherson Square (orange and blue lines). It is very hard to find street parking in the area.
Last night was my first class and I will definitely be returning next week. After the soreness ends. :)

B.fit is a terrific neighborhood lotte berk based exercise studio.  Linda and her team of instructors are wonderful teachers.  Best of all, like the website says, they are not a factory but a community.

After attending the classes relatively consistently for over 4 months, I have to say that I have noticed an improvement in my body's tone and have even dropped a few pounds.  To get the most from the workouts, you should plan on attending classes several times a week.  These workouts will leave you sweaty, sore and yearning for more.

    Yay b.fit!

I love B. Fit. I've been going there since it opened a couple of years ago. I was an avid gym-goer but the workouts are different from anything I'd done before, including yoga and pilates. It is hard, but I feel amazing after. The classes are a little pricey, so I don't go as often as I'd like to, but when I need a kick in the @$$ this is the thing.

Linda, the owner, is super-sweet and all the teachers are really good about adjusting you to make sure your form is right.

A few years back I had visited Physique 57 in New York City and wasn't really in any type of shape to appreciate the class.  Now after living in Dc for the past couple of years and getting myself in shape I started looking for a class that could supplement my regime and B Fit is the perfect place.  Knowledgable instructors and challenging classes are just what I needed to help sculpt my body.

I had been wanting to try a class at B.Fit for a while, but I was rather intimidated by the unknown of a new sort of class. I've taken a lot of yoga and Pilates classes, as well as many years of ballet as a child. Despite these facts, I would never call myself athletic, and I'm about as uncoordinated as they come. But in the spirit of changing all that, I decided to step outside my comfort zone and take a class at B.Fit.

I don't necessarily blame the class or the studio for this, but I found the class to be way above my ability level. The studio's website doesn't exactly prepare one for the fact that the class will move extremely fast and incorporate very high intensity moves. While this seemed fine for my fellow class mates, I feel that the website could have better explained what I would have been in for. I know that B.Fit offers beginner's sessions, which would obviously be more appropriate to my level of fitness, but they only offer one a week--on Friday afternoons, a time that simply isn't convenient for me.

What really bothered me most about the experience was the instructor, who barked commands for an hour, and seemed exasperated with me for not learning  the moves faster. In general I found her to be extremely impatient, lacking in empathy and generally condescending.

I'm not saying that B.Fit should pander to the out of shape, but i do think it could make a better effort to make its classes more enjoyable to a broader cross section of the public. This doesn't have to be accomplished by watering down the exercises, but it could start by training their instructors to be a little more empathic and patient, and offering classes in a broader range of ability levels, many times a week.

Now, I will say that the rest of the women in the class looked extremely fit, so I am sure that these classes are quite effective for whipping one into shape. However, if you're looking of a nurturing environment, I wouldn't necessarily recommend seeking it a B.Fit. I may come back again in the future, but not until I up my own fitness level at another facility.

In sum, if you're already in pretty good shape and you're looking to get your ass kicked, I'm sure B.Fit is a great place. But if you're not as inclined to exercise, not in great shape, and still harbor fears of group fitness left over from 7th grade gym, this may not be the best "fit"  for you.

Been going here for about 5 months or so.  I LOVE it!  I talk about barre class alllll the time and have brought a number of friends here, many of whom now frequent the studio.  I had heard about barre classes in California and NYC and had always wanted to try them, but had no idea there was a studio in DC until a friend told me about it.  Fortunately, I live only a few blocks away, so it's perfect!

Some people say you shouldn't focus on results (rather, overall health), but let's be serious...  I saw results from this class after going only TWO times.  I used to take dance classes when I was younger, so maybe that explains why I was able to start re-developing my muscles so quickly.  Regardless, I was impressed.  If you go regularly, or at least semi-regularly, it will truly transform your body.

The workout is really tough.  The classes are 55 minutes long and begin with a "warmup," which is a tough set of various push-ups, planks, tricep dips, Pilates roll-ups and hundreds.  After said warmup, you'll be sweating.  The class then moves on to arm exercises using 3-pound and 5-pound weights (tough even if you use 10-pound weights for bicep curls at the gym, for example), then arm and shoulder stretches.  Then you go to the barre for three different thigh exercises.  These are often done in various plie positions and involve tucking your tailbone under you using your lower abs.  By the time you're done with these, you'll be tired because you've worked your leg muscles to the point of exhaustion, at which point you stretch and loosen up to do three sets of "seat' work, either at the barre or on the floor.  These all involve contracting your glutes in different ways (the middle of your butt, the side, the area where you may or may not have a muffin top) and will usually be extremely hard to finish without taking a break!  Then, again, you will stretch your seat area, and then move on to ab work using the barre (for example, laying back on your tailbone and using your lower abs to pull your legs in toward the barre while sitting with your back against the mirror and pushing up into the barre), and then you will do ab work on the floor for what seems like a really long time!  Finally, you will stretch and cool-down.  You can find more information about the exercises on Google, of course.  (You will inevitably discover that Kelly Ripa is a huge fan of one of the studios in NYC, Physique 57.)

What's equally great about the studio is the PEOPLE!  I wasn't expecting to make friends at barre class (expecting it to be like Bikram yoga where you don't talk to anybody), but I have.  The owner, Linda, is awesome, and I really like all of the teachers I've had!

The cost of the classes seems to be a deterrent to some people.  I have access to a gym in my condo building and a nice gym at work, so I don't mind paying for barre classes.  The first class is $22 and the second is free.  After that, you can pay by the class ($22 each) or you can buy various packages.  If you can come up with the cash, the best package to buy is 20 classes for $300 ($15 each if you don't want to do the math).  You can pay with cash or with a check, no credit cards.

When you're done, you can take a spoonful of M&Ms or Reese's Pieces from the candy bowl and then proceed to Thai Tanic or Whole Foods for some takeout.  :)

Another note - I don't drive here, but I've heard some people complain about finding parking spots.  You can park at Whole Foods, just around the corner, and go inside to buy a bottle of water or something small after to validate your parking.

Now you have heard my typical B. Fit spiel.  I can't say enough about it - I'm so happy to have found a workout that I enjoy as much as this!

I've been going to B Fit for over a month now, and I can't recommend it highly enough!  Linda, the owner, sets the tone for the whole studio: friendly, upbeat, organized, and encouraging.  As others have noted, the first class is intense, to put it mildly, so come prepared to be exhausted--this is much faster paced than yoga or most pilates classes, and you use way more muscles.  Now I'm going regularly 2-3 times a week, and I find the classes just the right degree of challenging.  Plus the results so far are awesome--it's shocking how much strength you build in your inner thighs after just a few classes, and my arms in particular are noticeably more toned.  Best of all, the classes are really fun--everyone is friendly and non-judgmental, which is especially welcome for beginners; the routines change enough that you don't get bored; there's a great feeling of accomplishment as you get better at particular exercises; and the instructors are uniformly excellent about making sure you're doing each exercise in the right positions.  I would give this six stars if I could!

I saw results after going to TWO B.Fit classes!  The studio is clean, the instructors are amazing about correcting my positioning, and I feel energized and more toned after every class.  I would recommend this studio to anyone who is trying to lose weight or just to get more lean and toned.  I am leaving DC in a week to go back to school, and I am really sad about not being able to go to B.Fit anymore.  I will probably come back on some weekends just to take this class -- it's really that good!

I am from northern California, and had taken a bunch of barre classes.  I went looking for an option here in DC and  found B. Fit through craigslist.  Its small, but, extremely clean, friendly, and professionally staffed. The classes are awesome...super hard, super effective, well taught.  Linda, the owner, greets you herself and the teachers learn your name, offer personal instruction.  They have a great deal for newbies...the first class is 22 but the second is free, so you can take two for just 11 each to see if you like it.  I guarantee, you will!  Enjoy the pain!  It will change your body!
