Sure the lines are a little long and parking is crowded but the hard cider keeps me warm all winter. A gallon will keep in the fridge all year.
The hard cider makes a great unique holiday gift my out of town friends always request we bring a bottle.
The donuts and kettle corn are good as well. -

CIDER HOUSE RULES. Yes its a movie but not really my review of this place. I guess you can say its not my cup of t...I mean cider. I guess I can say it wasn't the apple of my eye but it didn't leave a sour taste in my mouth.
We had a road trip from Boston to New York and decided to make a stop. Got there on a weekday so we missed the cider making and free wine tasting. Basically nothing to look at except the machines to make cider and a store.
If I had to rate this as a tourist destination then I would give it 3 stars. If you don't get there on the weekend, what is there to do. However they do offer great things to try and buy. Of course they have apple cider, pies, wine, doughnuts, jams, baking goods and pickles. Now I tried the apple cider and it hit the spot on a cold October day. The gallon of apple cider we bought was very refreshing. Its like they squeeze the wonderful juices of the apple and put in a cup. Wait that is what they do. Here is the kicker, apparently according to my friends, they made one of the best pickles they every had.
So in summary unless you are not going on the weekends, don't plan a day playing tourist, just a day to the store to pick of fresh apples and then some. -

When I die, I want to be surrounded by Clyde's pumpkin bread. The only redeeming quality about the summer season ending is the knowledge that I can drown my sorrows in a loaf of this heavenly bread. I once dated a guy I hated for an extra three months simply because his mother could make a similar recipe. If you or someone you know can duplicate the recipe, please be my friend. I give excellent hugs.
So now that we are acquainted with my severe issues, let's discuss Clydes. Visiting the Cider Mill is a great tradition of all Southern CT and Rhode Islanders. For that reason, expect the parking to be crappy. I say, get over it - the parking lot is full because the food is delicious. If you want to be alone, I suggest you stay home and eat grocery store bread and drink welches.
Besides the best pumpkin bread in the world, Clyde's also serves cider (duh), donuts, candy apples, pies, fudge, wine, jams, apples, pumpkins and more. I don't really care for cider in general, but I always get a cup of hot mulled while I'm there. It is delish! My parents buy a half gallon to enjoy at home. I buy two loaves of bread. The bread runs out quickly so if you are the person taking the last loaf, please be sure it isn't the day I am visiting or I'll hunt you down. Have the donuts instead! They are also delicious. They usually have wine samples and while I have yet to buy a bottle, promise to try some just for you this fall.
For those of you with families, there is a cider making demonstration. I used to love it when I was a kid. The lines are long but there is a lot to look at. This is a true fall experience! -

Stopped in here quickly on a weekday for some cider, cider donuts and wine.
It was too warm outside for hot cider, so we opted for cold cider which was pretty good. I grabbed a bottle of their apple wine (the plain kind) but was disappointed when I got it home--I had hoped it would be sweeter. (I am very picky about alcohol and hard to please!)
I am excited to go back once it gets colder, probably in October. I'd really like to catch a cider making demonstration. I do wish they had apple/pumpkin picking, though. That's always fun.
The lines were long, but apparently we went during a slow day and that was considered a short line. I would hate to see it busy! (But I probably will, in October...)
When you step out of the door with your cider/donuts/whatever, follow the porch around to the side and you'll find some seating. It alluded me completely on my first trip, it was only after I had finished eating while standing that I finally saw them.
Also, there are very few trash cans on the property, so be mindful of your garbage.
Cute little gift stores where you could buy Halloween/Christmas trinkets. The main gift store also had mulling spices, cheese, maple syrup and a variety of spreads/dips for sale. -

Cider is good, donuts too! The demonstrations are only on Saturday and Sunday at 11 and 1, nothing on the weekdays. Staff is pleasant. It's a nice quick outing for cider.

Free apple wine tasting (Sat 10-5, Sun 11-5) where you can sample up to 4: me likey.
Lines that make Costco on a Saturday look short in comparison: me no likey
Tasty (and free) wines: me likey
Bees, bees everywhere: me no likey
Cider making demonstrations with the oldest steam powered cider mill in the US (11am, 1pm, 3pm on Sat/Sun in October, 11am and 1pm in November): me likey
We bought a 1/2 gallon of the cider ($3.75) and it tasted metallic: me no likey
Fresh apple cider donuts that were similar to Fractured Prune: me likey
20 minute wait to get the donuts: me no likey
Fresh kettle corn in huge bags for $5: me likey
No samples, so if you want some, fork over $5: me no likey
Free samples of jellies and other things in the store: me likey
Watching kids wipe their nose then use their fingers to spread the jelly over the crackers and other unhygienic acts: me no likey and me feel a little sick
Cute little kids playing in the little pumpkin patch: me likey
Annoying older buggers who kept bumping me and aren't nearly as cute as the little ones: me no likey
Free parking: me likey
Parking lot is packed and a massive biker group double parked me in: me no likey
Prices:
Hard cider: $20/gallon, $11.50 for 1/2 gallon
Cider: $6.25/gallon, $3.75 for 1/2 gallon
Donuts: $5.50/dozen $3.25 for 1/2 dozen
Apple turnover: $1.50 NOM NOM NOM!
Apple Crisp: $4
Cup of cider: $1 cold, $1.25 warmed
It was incredibly crowded on a Saturday afternoon. It was a neat place to visit but not if you're looking for a leisurely way to spend your day. The store becomes a madhouse, donuts take forever, and there are no explanations during the cider making demonstration. -

Fresh cider doughnuts and hot mulled cider: OM NOM NOM DELICIOUS!
Clyde's has more than your average cider mill and the cider doughnuts are way more amazing than your average cider doughnut. The apple wine is great too! Don't miss the demonstrations given three times a day.Listed in: Places that make me so happy

You don't get better cider than fresh-pressed and for someone who loves old crap as much as I do, you don't get a better experience than watching old machinery crank it out.
Clyde's Cider Mill was always a fun destination as a kid, but this past fall I went as an adult for the first time. The press wasn't in operation, but we were still able to tour the old mill and then cram into the ridiculously popular gift shop, which sells everything from hard apple ciders to fresh-made donuts. It smelled incredible but, being fashioned out of an old building certainly never meant to be used as a modern retail space, it was hard to even shift one's weight between one's feet without bumping into someone and half their extended family.
Still, the long wait in the gift shop was more than worth it. This is a treasure of the Mystic area, historic and gorgeous and rustic and powerful and free, if you just want to visit. -

There's a $10 limit on credit cards, but you shouldn't have any problem spending that here, with the plethora of homemade foods that abound: jams, dips, wines, kettle corn, and even olive oil personally poured for you from a large wood barrel!
The warm spiced apple wine was delicious so we took a bottle home with us. It was gone in about two days (we're usually slow drinkers). We also sampled a few jams. My 60 cent cider doughnut was room temperature, but still had a satisfying cinnamon-y taste. Unfortunately, the cider demonstrations were done for the season.
Like Jennifer, this little mill was one of the highlights of our Mystic trip. Quaint and New Englandy and delicious, I finally got to feel like a tourist on a weekend getaway, and that's exactly what I was looking for. -

This was one of the highlights of my weekend trip to Mystic. The weather was perfect, the leaves were on the ground and you could smell the cider in the air.
We watched the cider being made on the old steam mill. It smelled delicious and was pretty cool to watch.
Then we headed over to wait in line to try som fresh cider and some cider donuts. The food and donuts were delicious!
This place is nothing fancy, but was just the perfect place to celebrate fall in New England. -

Really cool place to hit if you're visiting mystic. Just be prepared to wait!! The lines were coming out both the front and back doors for the cider donuts and their other baked goods and such but they are worth it! The fresh cider here is killer too. The only thing I wasn't a fan if was the apple wines. I'm not much of a sweet desert wine fan and even their so called dry wines were too much for me. But if you're into that this place will be a hit all around. An added bonus if your into how stuff is made check out the vintage machinery they still use to make the cider, just adds to the cool factor.

let me tell you how packed this place was on saturday. cars double-parked on a tiny little road for about two city blocks. comforting piping-hot apple cider donuts made on-demand and selling like hotcakes. apple cider slushies. hard cider -- and many varieties. non-alcoholic hot cider. cider to go. rich, tasty apple butter. an awesome cider-making machine which is supposedly the oldest piece of cider-making history still in operation in the US. and the cider is wonderful. and this place is open for many moons into the last of fall, and the beginning of winter.
mm, cider... -

clyde's makes some great cider donuts, the mulled cider was nice on a brisk autumn afternoon.. the hard cider was OK but not my favorite.. if you like seeing old machinery working check out the production of the cider in the building in the back - very cool and somewhat educational - and they have a grist mill too.
on a nice cider-season day this place is always PACKED so be patient. -

Holy crap. Cider Donut. There is no excuse to not go here if you are in the area. My family and I had to wait close to an hour, but it was so worth it. Once I received the bag of fresh, soaking wet donuts, I knew I was in for a totally gangsta' treat. These donuts were so fresh they hadn't even fully taken shape yet. Couple that with 15% abv hard cider and it turned out to be an interesting night. I was unable to sample the free Apple Wine because a few chatterboxes at the front of the line were asking too many "important" questions to the people making it. But in no way does that reflect poorly on this stand-up place. Invite me if you are going, please.

I came here on an Autumn afternoon while staying at a friend's home in Mystic. When we arrived, there was absolutely no parking and we had to park quite a distance down the street, literally parking on the street. The lines were ridiculously long and I almost gave up on the place. However, we got some freshly made Kettle Corn, which was excellent. The wine tasting had a huge line and they happened to close it right when my friend got in line because the workers needed a break. After ordering our hot cider and cider doughnuts, I ate about 4 of them and then one more when my friend made me put a doughnut in my mouth to pose for a picture. The cider doughnuts, were absolutely outstanding. The cider however, was just OK to good. Nonetheless, I'll be returning next time I'm in the Mystic area on an autumn day. Absolutely loved the place, except for the long lines. Would recommend it to anyone in the area.
