Nice concept for a restaurant, now if only the quality of the food and sauces were just a little bit better. I've had much better and for much less as well. Oh, and my boyfriend ended up with a piece of squid in his meal that had carried over from whoever's plate was being cooked next to his. That kind of scared me a bit. I probably would be wary eating here if I was a vegetarian.

The thing that grossed me out the most was the fact that they had buffalo sauce as one of the stir fry sauces. REALLY? BUFFALO SAUCE? The nastiest thing I've ever heard.

I'm giving it two stars because it's Friday and I'm feeling nice today.

Ok, lets start with the "problems" of this joint. It is usually noisy. It is always hot. And parking is nonexistent. When you come here just pay the five bucks to park at the lot just to the south. It will save you the trouble of waiting for parking for twenty minutes. The service is a little lacking here. But! When eating here I've learned that you just don't expect good service here. It's just not part of the experience.
Ok, the good. This is the BEST Mongolian that I have experienced from Oklahoma, Colorado, and California! And they have the greatest selections of sauces, and somebody out there likes buffalo sauce on their bowl. Yes things do get mixed with your food from the person next to you at the grill. It's sort of like a little present for eating there. I am shocked at the low reviews of this establishment.
Just expect great food and chaos!

I used to really like this place.

But just like anything that gains popularity over time it starts to get a bit worse each time.

I love the concept. I am a bit picky so I never make anything that I don't love to eat. That right there is the best part of the whole shabang!

Here's the part I could live without:

$14.99 a person for all you can eat or for us two bowls. YIKES! Has the price gone up here people or is it just me?

The service- I can't quite figure it out...all they bring is your drinks, rice, tortillas, and the bill. SO WHY IS IT LIKE PULLING TEETH TO GET THESE ITEMS?? I used to waitress back in the day and I am baffled at how hard it is to get a hold of the waitstaff here.

I think perhaps the nostalgia has worn off here. We ate here for my birthday dinner and all I kept thinking was this is where I picked for my birthday?Just kinda blah!

A plus and super cool thing was I was on there e-mailing list and got a free coupon for dinner for my birthday!

I like the concept for the restaurant.  It is fun being more interactive with your lunch.  I enjoy the variety of meats and veggies to make a stir-fry with and a lot of sauces and spices to make a good dish.  So, it puts the task of creating a good meal in your hands.
Three stars because I am a harsh critic on food and the service was slow.

We've been here once while visiting Denver.  It was very interesting.  Create your own stir-fry - you choose the meets, veggies, and sauce(s).  Then it gets cooked up by one of the chiefs.  You eat the stir-fry with rice and/or tortillas.  The food was good but nothing great.  I like how you choose what you eat though.

If you don't like it, why'd you make it that way?

You really can't mess this concept up.  You choose what you want, you combine sauces to your taste, they cook it in front of you... what more do you want?  AYCE rice and tortillas side up to your choice of stir fried meats and veggies.

Three stars because service on refills, dessert, and getting your check can be slow.

I love going here because it is a perfect place for anyone who is picky or a vegetarian. They have a huge buffet of raw meat and veggies that you pick from and then you can customize a sauce. They stir-fry in front of you and voila. It's not a great value, a little overpriced but usually worth it. Desserts are great too.

Beef and lamb and calamari oh my! Truly a great place if you are a meat lover, as the selection of proteins at this Mongolian BBQ is bigger than any I encountered. Plus lots of veggies and sauces to accompany your giant bowl of meat. I'm giving this place one extra star because they have a separate grill for those with food allergies. As someone with an allergy to scallops, I appreciate not having to fear anaphylactic shock when I go and eat some dinner.

At first it was great.  Create your own stir fry, grab a beer, watch a little sports on the tube.

Second time.. hmm meats a little chewy, dirty sneeze guards, the tables are dirty, the servers are having some laughs and not attentive to their customers.

Was talking about how I was disappointed with my last visit, a friend of mine told me that a friend of his used to work here.  I was asked if I liked to dine in a clean environment with properly prepared and handle food.

"Of course"

Snicker "Then don't go back there".

Not to be a nay-sayer...well, actually...yes, to be a nay-sayer, Mongolian Barbeque is like white cake with white frosting with little stars on top (you know the kind): it seems nice enough, fun frosting, until you eat it...

You know what happens.

Well, its a cool idea...but for the price is somewhat eh. And if you are vegetarian, forget it...go somewhere else. They cook everything on a huge iron thing, which I guess is supposed to be like the ancient shields of old mongolian warriors who would cook their meat via the same thing that saved them from arrows earlier in the day (hmm maybe a stretch). The point being it is impossible not to get everyone elses charred remenants in your food, even though the sweaty cooks do try.

And Carrie R. is right: they don't really have wait service, except for drinks and yet...and yet.....huh? Where are they?

Lots of medicore food, bad service and pricey can't make up for the cool idea of choosing your own stuff to mix and match and have them cook it up for you.

When we are in Denver, this is always one of the places we have to come to....you can eat inside or outside, which is nice on summer evenings.   The food is great.  You start out by filling your bowl with noodles, meats, seafood, veggies, then great sauces.  they put the noodles at the beginning of the line, so you start filling your bowl with that...(remember you get a bowl of rice when you get to your table), I always skip the noodles, then go on to the meats and seafood, etc.
They throw the ingredients in your bowl on a big round grill.  Some very talented grillers start cooking it up.  Placing it in a plate and you take it back to your table.  Tortillas and rice are then brought out.  We have enjoyed it everytime we've been in.  Oh, and to top things off, you have to try the humongous, delicious apple dessert.  We love this place :)

If you can't decide what it is you're craving, head to BD's.  I've been known to throw one of everything in a bowl, mix together some salty and some spicy sauces, and just go with the flow.  I haven't made a bad meal yet.

If you need to do fundraising for any reason, they have a "guest griller" opportunity, which is also fun and unique.  Their mixed drinks are excellent - silent but deadly.  The selection is great, the ambiance is great, and their tee-shirts are funny.

I suggest going on an empty stomach, you're going to eat a lot!

Four on the fun factor: you're the chef! And fun is important. But I'm not too hot on this place lately. Then again, they do have Newcastle and Fat Tire on tap.... It averages out to 3 stars.

When you walk in, there is a spot pointed directly at your face, making "how many" feel like an interrogation. The servers barely have to do anything, and yet they drop the ball anyway. And the music was too loud and aggravating. The sound in there echoes badly, so they ought to compensate by turning down the tunes.

It wasn't so clean last time I went: every table was empty of customers but full of their dirty dishes, and they went without being bussed for 45 minutes or more. It kind of grosses me out to be glancing around the restaurant and see nothing but post-gluttony carnage.

Finally, it seems like maybe they are starting to cheap out on the meats: chicken was gristley and too chunky to eat with the provided chopsticks!

Although the ingredients are of excellent quality and variety I found the flavor profile of virtually all the sauces to be exceedingly sweet.  Also I strongly dislike restaurants which raise their prices for dinner while providing an identical experience to lunch.  Lastly, on both visits to BD's I've been seated in the back corner by the grill which I've found to be loud and unpleasant.

*****Dan's rating system*****

1 Star - Absolutely horrible, deserves to go out of business.
2 Stars - An exercise in mediocrity.
(Oftentimes 3-star businesses can be knocked down to 2 for failing to execute a dish their restaurant is named after.)
3 Stars - Decent but not something I'd go out of my way for.
4 Stars - Excellent, most likely a place I visit on a regular basis.
5 Stars - A true institution.

B.D.'s is a great night out for food and entertainment. I think everyone should experience B.D.'s at least once. It has been the death of a few drinking nights, though, when my guy friends and I thought we'd be manly and feast on Mongolian barbeque then tie one on. Yeah, we ate at B.D.'s then went home and went to sleep!

As much as I love B.D.'s, I can't eat there very often, because if I did I'd weigh 300 pounds. But as a once-a-year thing, B.D.'s is a great dining experience.

I finally made it down to this place last week for St. Patties day!

BD's has a vast amount of quality food/toppings to create your perfect Mongolian stir-fry.  For possible meat choices, they have everything from NY Strip Steak (crab legs for an additional charge) to Scallops, Shrimp and other seafood.  They also have quality veggies like sugar snap peas and shitake mushrooms.

Once you've selected your meat and veggies, choose from about twenty different sauces and take your ingredients to be cooked in front of your very own eyes.  The Mongolian bbq chefs look to be holding two, gigantic swords to flip and chop your stir-fry while it cooks (who wouldn't want to cook with gigantic swords?).  Lunch is about $7.  Dinner is a little more, about $12 for one bowl and $14 for unlimited.

Some places have frozen deli cut meats, and old rotten looking vegetables. Not this place. Big cuts of fresh meat and fish, a great selection of vegetables and sauces, and for what you get, it's not too expensive. I love this place, and whenever I have the appetite and can make it down to Lodo on my lunch break, I go.

I may have liked Ghengis  Grill slightly more, but they're closed now.

I've since tried mongolian bbq after having B D's and have never had anything like it! The selection of meats, vegtables, and sauces are unlike any other mongolian bbq! For a reasonable price you leave on the verge of bursting. Wow!

I discovered this restaurant shortly after it opened and ate there for lunch anywhere from one to four times a week until I moved away from Denver. I have yet to find anything close in the Bay Area.

BD's offers the largest ingredient selection of any Mongolian barbeque place I've been to. Choose from four meats, three types of seafood, or go strictly vegetarian (and for strict vegetarians and those with allergies, they'll prepare your food on different grill if you prefer). Dozens of choices for veggies, noodles, etc. Six kinds of oil, at least a dozen sauces, and another dozen or so herbs and spices.

Stir fried on a huge flat grill by friendly and entertaining cooks, your hand-picked meal is ready in minutes. Though if you go during the lunch or dinner rush, expect a bit of a wait.

Check out their website at http://www.bdsmongolia... for other locations, hours, and more information.
