Came here last weekend to celebrate on of my friends birthday. This place is huge and is divided into so many different sections. There are a couple of bar areas one in the front and two other at the back. There is huge patio where one can definitely have a good time with friends over food. Personally to me the place was very spread out.

They do play very loud music but I didn't see anybody dancing so might become difficult to strike a conversation over food because of loud food. The drinks very overpriced. The only best thing about this place is big space with spread out different sections.

If you have time to kill and like to drink outside, go to B Bar.

We were lured in on a sunny weekend afternoon by their sign that said "Come drink cocktails in our garden." Since we only like gardens when they have cocktails in them, we decided to accept their offer.

If you enter into the garden, don't sit down and don't ask the waiter to seat you. You have to go into the actual restaurant to be seated by the host. This set up doesnt' make much sense. In fact most of the interior of B Bar is an after thought. They would do much better by having the hostess sit in the garden to seat people or close the garden door and make people go through the main entrance to talk to the host first. The set up they have now only creates a chaotic stream of nomads roaming aimlessly among the tables.

When you figure out  where to sit and get your order, it is a quite pleasant experience. The garden itself reminds you of outdoor drinking in Europe (on of the best things about Europe) and is much nicer than sitting at a table in the middle of the sidewalk. The cocktails and french fries are quite nice and you can easily see yourself sitting there all day, if you weren't a harried New Yorker with people to see and things to do.

As the weather gets warmer it is going to get harder to get a table at B Bar, so go now and avoid the rush.

    Have fun.

Because of the slow service, I almost wanted to drop it a star, but the fries stopped me. Lets start at the beginning though...

B Bar is a beautiful place to eat and drink on a pretty day. Once inside and in the garden, you almost feel like you have been transported somewhere else. It reminded me of Spain where everyone is relaxed and there is not the hustle and bustle that you get used to in New York.

Since my friend and I had an event to attend after, we only had a couple of drinks (my usual dirty martini no vermouth) and some fries to share. Service was extremely slow, but friendly. The dirty martini was respectable and I savored every drop of it.

What ups this place to 4 stars is the fries though. The FRIES! I am honestly not a huge fry person. I mean sometimes when I am greedy I will forego the fries just to have an extra burger, but these fries might have put me on a fry kick. They were well seasoned, nicely cooked and there were bits of fried tarragon mixed in. Then on the side there was a tarragon aioli which was amazing. I am all about the euro eat your fries with mayo concept, so having this special tarragon dip won me over. I forgot how much I loved tarragon.

Anyways, don't come here if you are in your NYC hustle and bustle, but if you have time to kill and just want a nice place to relax, this place is for you. Oh and don't forget to get the fries!

Big outdoor area, but don't mistake it for a bier garden. Only crowded in places that matter (by the bar). Prices are what you'd expect in Manhattan, but it's a pretty forgettable experience (once you get past being outside). Can't imagine it's worth going to in the colder months.

    DON"T GO TO B-BAR
I would like to give them more stars for the truly beautiful restaurant design but they are so unprofessional and incompetent, the nice atmosphere is wasted.  this is why they suck:

the day after having a light dinner at b-bar, my friend realized she had been charged an overdraft fee from her bank. they had charged her more than twice what she owed, and after looking at my balance, i realized they had done the same to me. i had to spend the next day calling the apathetic, flaky managers and eventually had go back to the bar in person.

first they told me BS excuses about "authorization fees", then completely changed their story when they realized the airhead waitress had  just charged us the sum of the whole 4-person meal+tip. nobody would take responsibility for their admitted mistake and i spent a half an hour being bounced between different managers. they were also extremely shady about giving me contact info for their superiors.

just don't bother with this place.  they don't deserve your business until they get their shit together.

Came here for drinks and then food and the service was slowwwwwwww!!! Not sure what was going on but it was very very painful. At two points we got up and went to the bar to get our drinks.

The food was blahhh, the octopus salad was a random piece of fish, the duck tacos was ok --just needed some sauce.  This place is pretty terrible --don't waste your money.

I am not a fan of people. Especially the kind that come here. Most of them are overdressed for this particular place and over made up and worse, they think they are way more fantastical than they actually are. I know I sound like little miss snotty Regina George from Mean Girls but she's a life ruiner. She ruins lives. I'm not. That said, on Wednesdays we wear pink.

The hamburgers aren't so bad, especially if you're drunk. Now if I have to be drunk to enjoy what I'm eating then that doesn't speak very well for what I am eating. Plus this isn't the type of food I like anyway, it's basically various piles of fat and cholesterol that will make you gain five pounds overnight disguised as higher quality whatever-you-call-it with a higher price point. Again, this correlates well with the people that go here more than once. No, they aren't fat. They just look like they are trying too hard.

One star for the patio, another for the location. Everything else is overpriced mediocrity.

This is a good spot to get mediocre food when you are on the go, coming home from work and want to grab a bit or can't think of a place to meet up.
The service staff vary in experience and charm, they are young and somewhat inexperienced. The atmosphere is casual and chill.
I can't think of anything that stands out on the menu. its an upscale cafe.

Oh B Bar. Such a great bar for outdoor drinking and midday snacking/brunch. While sitting outside on a recent sunny day I couldn't really find any reason not to give this place 4 or 5 stars.

The food was delicious, the mac n cheese incredible and they had some good beers on tap. Plus the cute outdoor area just kind of gets ya. It's def the not the cheapest place in the hood but it's not completely outrageous either. The inside is like a swanky bar from the past and I'm a little into it... although I've never come here and sat inside I'd imagine it wouldn't be so bad either.

I love the decor and outdoor space. Their food is pretty good but man their service sucks!!!!!!!!  Their past waiters were good, but now forget it. Seriously 30 minutes for two slices of cheese cake.  My friend had to walk up to the waitress with his empty cup to get a refill of coffee. I had to flag down a busboy to get the waitress' attention.

Oh yeah, B Bar & Grill owner, if you're reading this, let me tell you the second to last time I was there.   I ordered three slices of cheese cake to go, the waitress took my order and came back right away with a check. It came out to $22 and change, I gave her a $20 and a $10, she then asked me, "do you want change?" I told her yes. After she gave me my change, I never saw her again. The busboy brought what I assumed was my order and it sat on the table for about five minutes before a guy handed me the bag and was going to charge me again.

I always tip min 20% and feel good about doing so, but man they don't deserve it.

I was here for the dead of winter and they had outdoor sitting. This was nice because they have outdoor heaters so it was very accommodating. The beverage are NYC prices so I was not please with that. I was there for after hours so I did not try any of the food. This place is very layback and relaxing.

I've never been to eat at B-Bar, and have only gone for the occasional late night drink, happy hour or post-college birthday bash.  Needless to say, I've never had a terrible time at B-bar, but I've also never had one of those great nights I'd never forget (or not remember) either.  Everything was pretty standard for an EV/NYU hang out, though the crowd was a little bit older than your average college bar...which is definitely a good thing.  The only reason why this place even sticks out in my mind (and thus why I would go there again) is its patio.  It's spacious and never feels too crowded.  I think overall this place is probably the best in the summer, solely because of that reason.  It's also not too pretentious, which is nice.

B Bar has a gem of an outdoor patio in the EV.  They have decent cocktails and beers on tap but even at happy hour, it's crazy expensive.  I cannot comment on the food but a few ordered and didn't complain. Service was spotty as our waiter kept switching off and on. It's a great spot for a nice-weather-day afternoon/evening drink if you're in the neighborhood but I wouldn't go out of my way.

After a long wait and dismissive service, I went to the bathroom(which is  a pretty good bathroom, I'd say). When I came back, my friend told me there was hair in my food. I was sad; this always happens to me! But then there was one in hers, too! I was happier. We told our server, she left the plates(I don't understand this, get them out of there so we aren't looking at them!!) but told her manager, who came and apologized. He offered to get us 'something fresh' but we declined, and he paid for our beers and we left. Shame too, it's a very cute place, I wish the service were better and the food more hairless!

I'm pretty sure the 'B' stands for BLAH because this is putting last night's experience mildly. I met my friend at the bar: Friday night, 70+ degrees and there is one bartender who gets the award for the most passive, lackadaisical being ever. The urgency of tending to her customers was non existent - unless you are a 20something frat boy in a gingham shirt. Not only did she give me eye contact but she did not honor the fact that I was there for 20 min and let some new snot-nosed prep boy interrupt my drink order. Then dinner: Sat in the middle, not in some hidden corner and we sat for 30 min with no one asking for water, let alone food. BLAH Bar gets one star for uniforming their waiters in navy (plain shirts for girls and stripes for men) so you can easily tag them to place your order. The girl was just as boring as the bartender and literately looked at us like we spoke a language she didn't understand because she was unable to articulate words such as 'yes', 'no' or 'thank you.' The order was simple: 2 beers (same kind); burger and veggie burger no dressing. We received 1 beer, salad wilted in dressing and never to see her again after asking and receiving the beer, which was slammed to table. Clearly, she learned from her hostess who asked if we were 'ok' and proceeded to take away a beer than was 1/4 full. BTW - veggie burger is also a boca burger. Freezer burn tasted, included.

Oy. B Bar is just slightly more tolerable than Phebe's across the street. If you want to feel ancient, come here and have a drink with the NYU kids and their fake IDs. On numerous occasions, I have had to turn down a 20 year old by saying, "Unfortunately, I am too old for you". I don't like aging myself, therefore I will not be returning.

Funny story, I once dragged a date here for drinks. Little did I know that Tuesday was gay night - it was fun to watch him squirm around uncomfortably. Silly boy.

Grabbed lunch here with a friend before class and was surprised to see how huge it was. It's refreshing to step inside such a wide dining area after trying to cram into all the tiny cafes and hole in wall restaurants in the city.

I got an avocado club and it was really good. They have an indoor and a heated outdoor seating area which was my favorite part. Sitting in the outdoor area was so nice because it was pretty chilly outside, but you still got the heat while also enjoying the beautiful day.

I'll have to come back and try this place for dinner!

    Location and simplicity.
That's why B bar keeps packing them in. It's on Bowery, nearby a lot of things, but not so nearby other things that it's more convenient to go to those other places. Which is good for B Bar, because I wouldn't choose it over most places.
And the name! B Bar. Of course you're going to remember that name! It's so easy! So everyone knows it. So it's an easy meeting spot.
See? Location and simplicity. That's why it's successful. It's not the overpriced drinks, overeager bouncers, disinterested wait staff or mediocre food. OK, the semi-heated outside area is nice too, I'll give them that. But there's really not that much else to like here.

Worst, vile and rudest bartender I've ever encountered in 14 years of living downtown. Fire him for his woman of an attitude and awful profanity laced mouth to paying customers. I hope this makes any potential customer to second guess cing here.  I will tell all of my friends and family NOT to ever come here again. I'm highly disappointed and appalled at his general lack of respect towards women especially when talking to my wife. Employees come and employees go. Great outdoor ambience, good beer selection, the perfect place to relax on a warm spring day, and dog friendly.

Downside: the service is slow and inattentive.  Food is expensive and barely passable. I've tried several different things and have settled on the duck tacos which are so-so.  The guacamole is well done though.

Another downside are the crowds: the place has a tendency to flood with overly rowdy twenty-somethings from across the entire tri-state area. I've come to generally deal with this living in the east village, but B Bar's frat party tendencies are too much for me sometimes.

Well, it seems that other Yelpers had similar unimpressive experiences. For starters, the service is very inattentive. I went with a group of friends and we each spent at least 15 minutes to order one drink at the bar. Also, this was during a fairly slow time, crowd wise. Later, we were told that the bar is at capacity and that we cannot be served. I'm not even sure what that means, especially since the bar wasn't even crowded. The only thing B Bar has going for it is its size, which is the reason why tried it in the first place.

I'm completely agreeing with Nishanth on this one: $7 beers are available at so many other bars in the city. It's best to spend your time and money elsewhere.

Love this space. The outdoor area is really pretty and if you can go early and relax, that's great. But meeting up here late on the weekends... well the line for drinks will make you want to shoot yourself. This is the quintessential post-collegiate bar that fills up with an increasingly belligerent crowd that just can't comprehend why security won't let them exit through the outdoor area onto Bowery.

I'm relieved that other Yelp'ers had similar experiences with this place...the people who work here were rude and condescending.

Any place that needs to create a hype on their own by shooing people away rudely and yelling at them that "the bar is at full capacity, and you're all wasting your time waiting your time here, you all need to leave," is meh in my book.

I went for my friends' birthday , and they called in advance to make sure their friends all got in without any issues... but of course, the employees gave me an extremely hard time when I was trying to get in. The way they had approached me, and the others who had friends in there for parties (that they called ahead for) was rude, and unprofessional. It just seemed like they cared nothing about customer service.

Once my friend talked to two or three employees, they finally let me in. I looked around and saw that the place had empty booths, and was definitely not at full capacity- unless I was missing something.

It's really a shame because the decor is absolutely beautiful, and the space is huge.

Well, I know now not to go there on the transition shift between brunch and dinner.  It felt like our server was actually stationed in a different restaurant considering the frequency he was available. Polite enough while present, but I'm talking 20-25 minutes in between "visits" to our table. Food was adequate as always, there are still no standouts on that menu, but certainly didn't make up for the neglectful service. I'm not sure why I still go there to eat at all and not exclusively for drinks.

    One word...Expensive

So i went here for a happy hour birthday party for a friend's friend after work.  So purely rated upon drinks...this place was expensive!  I know i know...bars in NY are expensive, but B Bar was just outrageous.

So Thursday after work I roll up around 6 and walked into the back bar where everyone was hanging out.  It was nice b/c it was outdoors/indoors and had a lot of tree cover and shade.  Nice...not amazing...Oh it just so happens that, that day was one of those 90+ days/100% humidity last week.  So i asked, "What are your Happy Hour specials?"  The barback looks at me and says "none"

None?  No happy hour specials on a thursday at 6 pm?  Ok How much is a beer?  7 bucks for domestic, 8 or 9 for imports.  Wait imports like...what?  Kilians, Coronas, etc.  What?!!

I got a domestic...forgot which one - but still those prices are outrageous.  After hanging out for a bit - the B-day boy is starting to do shots and i thought - well i'll be nice and buy him a shot.  So we got shots of Patron Silver.  I'm like - ok - 3 shots....like an idiot i forgot to ask how much.

The bartender (a cute chick) says 36.  What what what???  12 bucks for a shot of Patron?  I could have bought a bottle for that much!

B Bar - you suck - i'm never ever going again.

    Yours Truely,

    Richard

I'm surprised by the awful reviews. B Bar is a convenient neighborhood restaurant with friendly service and a spacious room. A pleasant location for a drink and appetizers with friends.

Granted, the food is not spectacular. But it's okay. If you're in a hurry or don't feel like dealing with hipsters in a tiny, over-crowded restaurant, B Bar can work. Stick to safe basics like guacamole and chips ($14) but forget about the Roast Duck Tacos ($10), which are more taco than duck.

A basic salad won't hurt you either. One of my friends had a burger ($10-$14) and said that it was okay.

Met up with two friends here for a birthday dinner. None of us had been before and the birthday girl picked it at random. The place was huge (by city standards). Upon first entrance near the bar, I felt a bit underdressed (I wore jeans, boots, brown top, and a blazer, so I wasn't slumming it, but still felt inadequate in comparison). Thankfully, the diners in the restaurant area (as well as my friends) appeared a bit more casual.

We shared the hummus plate: the servings of hummus and a couscous salad were more than enough, but we had to ask for more pita. Hummus and couscous were well-prepared. The birthday girl ordered the salmon, which  was atop some spinach and fingerling potatoes. She liked her dish. My other friend ordered the game hen, which was cooked perfectly and accompanied by a garlic pan sauce with diced veg. I enjoyed the bite he gave me and thought the sauce was excellent. I, not terribly hungry, ordered the crab cakes and the asiago truffle fries. Although there were plenty of fries, I wished they were crispier. They were tasty, but very limp. The crab cakes were, thankfully, mostly crab and not breading, but weren't anything to write home about. (In retrospect, I should have ordered the crab and herb pasta.) Prices were reasonable for the city (about $20/entree).

The service started off pretty attentive, but tapered off significantly toward the end of the evening. We also were taken care of by two different people, who shared the duties of taking orders, bringing checks, etc. It took a long time for my beer to arrive, a decent amount of time for our food, and even longer for anyone to come by and give us the check.

All in all, I'd probably return and try more of their main courses. I would, however, allot myself a decent amount of time for dinner, as we were there for a little over two hours, and over a half hour of that was spent trying to get the bill.

This place looks super impressive when you walk in. Went with a group of four for lunch and drinks, and were drawn to the airy garden seating area (how could you not be?). There are vines and ferns hanging overhead, which does wonders for the ambiance. That wears off quickly when you realize you can't look away from your $12 cocktail without getting some sort of dead leaf in it.

Service was attentive at first, which is to say that we were able to order right away. But the actual receiving of the food/drinks took a lifetime.

If you're thinking of ordering the guacamole, and are in the mood to split 6 chips and a cauldron of chunky avocados, go for it. Then ask for more chips and wait for the priceless look from the server as she processes the seemingly outrageous request.

The food wasn't bad but generally nondescript, and ultimately difficult to enjoy considering everything else.

Asked to organize an evening out for our coworkers, a friend and I decided to go to B-Bar.  She was a big fan, but I'd heard a few warnings about the place, so I decided to call ahead to make sure that there would be plenty of space.  The nice lady on the phone assured me that there were lots of tables and we'd be able to sit together.  Comforted, I eagerly awaited a fun evening.

When we got there, we were impressed by the garden area, a nice open space with cute little tables and plants.  Basically, it looked like a cross between the bar in Good Morning, Vietnam and a mid-1970's fern bar.  The place was pretty empty, and we prepared to enjoy a fun, relaxed evening.

When we asked to be seated, the superthin blonde hostess made vague noises about how we couldn't sit at the tables unless we were going to order dinner.  She noted, however, that we could hang out in the bar, a dank, crowded area that reminded me uncomfortably of some of the grosser places that I've visited in Tijuana and Panama City Beach.

We asked to talk to the manager, who ultimately decided that we could sit in the (still-empty) main area, as long as we broke the party up into three groups and promised to order food.  After a brief discussion, we left B-Bar and moved across the street to Phebe's, which was much more accommodating.

Given B-Bar's prices, our tab would probably have come to more than $200.  Instead, B-Bar managed to keep its tables open and empty.  Not sure I understand how that business plan works...

How have I never been here before? Loved the ambiance here last night---the indoor/outdoor feel is really nice and the place felt buzzy but not crowded. The perfect weather didn't hurt either.

A good selection of beers on tap and yummy (huge) portion of truffle fries for $7. Can't speak to the other food though I can say the kitchen was working pretty slow.

Still, a beer + fries makes me a happy girl. Can't wait to come back!

The spot is palatial with several different rooms, not so great in the winter because every room was kinda cold but I love it durning the warmer seasons. It's located in a great location with tons of bars around, it's usually my fall back when everything else gets too corny in the neighborhood.

This place doesn't seem to be very popular among the Yelp set, but I've always had a pleasant experience here.  I love the interior (grab a booth!), and while the food is a bit on the pricier side, everything I've had here has been tasty.  For brunch, their omelets are good, and the home fries actually seasoned and not dry (not an easy thing to find in NYC!), and the Bloody Mary is one of the best in the city.  Service can be a bit spotty, but I've always gotten my food in a reasonable time, and usually had a hostess check up on the table at some point.

Being a Cooper student this place is kind of a staple for students and professors. That has largely due to a discount we receive but if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't go here. It has a great outdoor patio and the staff are relatively friendly, all great perks. However, yeah the food may be good but it's nothing to go wow over and it is over priced for the Bowery. Drink selection is mediocre at best. There is nothing that makes this place special except for it's location and outdoor patio. That's about it, and with that in mind, not overly worth it.

This place is great. I really like it, especially in the summer. Its a perfect place to sit outside and not feel like you are in the middle of NYC. The food is a little overpriced. I had the mussels and they were wonderful. B Bar turns into quite the club after dark, so if you are looking to shake that booty, come here!

Came here late on Friday night and really thought the place was EH. B Bar is very spacious, has a few different rooms and a garden in the back.

There was a line to get in which I had suspected was only the case because they like to create a persona of exclusivity to drive business? Not sure but it's quite annoying. A guy walked by asking groups of girls if he could tag along with them in order to gain entrance since he was turned away earlier in the night.

Of course when we walked in, the place was pretty empty - tons of open tables! The garden space was nice but although smoking is not allowed, people smoked anyway. They should enforce the no smoking policy.

The DJ played old school music so I guess that was nice since it got people in the mood for dancing.

Probably would not come back by choice.
