On a friends refferal I had my car towed to BD,  A week later I googled them to get a phone # and up popped up Yelp instead. The phone # was there but so were the reviews.  I got really nervous, call my friend t(the refferal) and he assured me that my fears were groundless.

I then get a check from my insurance co, Then I freaked out $1500 for majo damage? Again google BD again Yelp pops up again even more anxiety, Called Sean ( the owner I believe) as I am afraid I will will be out thousands  $

Sean explained to me exactly how it works, The insurance co sends over  an adjuster whose goal it is to screw you, to give you as little as possible and blame the body shop. I heard him on the phone, Sean put the gloves on for me and starts hammering away at the huge insurance company, Sean had all the right answers and while on the speaker I heard the insurance company cave, almost appologize even.  If I had to fight the Insurance company on my own I would have a crappy broken car for the next 1.5 years until I had paid it off.

Back to the reviews. File this under no good deed goes unpunished I now call BD ( Beaurocratic Destruction )  Blaming BD for the underhanded crap the insurance companies pull is so unfair. The previous reviewer not only owe Mr Butler an appology but a revision as well.  Thank You BD !!

Being that B&D was on my insurance company's 'approved' list. I used them after having been crashed into by another car. The people were nice enough, but the work had much left to be desired. There were bare metal spots under the door [looked as though the newly painted door was sanded accidentally down to bare metal but was not touched up.

The door has never been the same. It rattles, is not cleanly aligned, and there is clearly something loose in the door. The auto-window motor also failed less than a year later [whereas the passenger door motor, though used nearly just as much, still functions fine.] I thought to go back and have B&D refix their poor workmanship but I couldn't bring myself go back there for more shoddy work. I was also told it would be a 'huge' deal to repaint my bumper [B&D estimate was $750] which had peeling paint from another horrid job done by Ira Toyota in Danvers [another mess up]. So I passed on the $750 offer - which I was able to get the same bumper repaint done at DM Autobody for $250 [after a tree fell on my car and it needed a new hood]. DM did a wonderful job on the bumper for a third of B&D's estimate and the hood is beautifully painted, cleanly aligned, and functions as it should.

I had to get some pretty major body work done on my car.  B & D was on my insurance's approved list, so I gave them a call.  The gentlemen that answered was very nice, and offered to drop by and take a look at my car for an estimate on an agreed-upon date before I had it towed to get the work done.

One week later, I had yet to hear from B & D.  I called and left a voicemail message, also with no response.  About a week and a half later, I received a call from B & D apologizing for the delay and telling me they had dropped by twice to take a look at the car, but that it wasn't there.

However, my car was there the entire time since it was not driveable. I would've also hoped that if they couldn't find the car they would've called me to confirm address information and/or call for directions.  You know, in case they needed directions for the 30 second walk from B&D to where my car was.

By the morning of the day that someone from B & D called--over a week after they had initially promised a quote--I had chosen another Auto Body (A-Z Auto Center in Cambridge--thanks to the reviews on Yelp!) out of frustration with the situation.

I get into car accidents and I get into them A LOT!! Let's just say that over the years I've visited B&D more than I would like. So much so, that they've become like an old friend every time I have to place another call into them. I cannot compliment them enough on the work they do. They are extremely helpful and will always make sure you get the most from the insurance company in order to repair your car the right way.

I just brought a car to B&D for the second time over the past six years, or so, and was surprised to see a few negative reviews.  I thought that I would add my previous experience and, given that my car is currently at the shop, update this review after I get it back.

About six years ago, my neighbor scraped my parked car with his his car.  Rather than use insurance, he offered to write me a check for the repair.  Since B&D was right up the street, I took the car to Shawn for an estimate.  I brought the estimate to my neighbor, he wrote me a check, and I dropped the car off at the shop.

Upon picking it up a few days later, Shawn told me that he was actually able to do the repair using a different technique, resulting in a savings of a couple of hundred dollars to my neighbor.  I was (happily) shocked that he was refunding part of the money, since I never would have known the difference otherwise.  Of course, my neighbor was also happy to get part of his money back.

When I was rear-ended a few weeks ago, it was a no brainer for me to bring my car to B&D Auto.  The honesty and craftsmanship that they exhibited on my first visit was outstanding, and based on that experience, I highly recommend them.

    == Updated ==

I picked up my car from B&D today and it looks great.  It was not a huge amount of damage to fix, but there were some technically challenging aspects of the work and it came out great.  It only took about one week to fix, including B&D's negotiation with the insurance company, and they also took care of some other minor scratches on the car while they had it.

I've now brought two cars to B&D and had great experiences both times.  I hope that I won't have to go back anytime soon, but I have no hesitation at all in recommending them.

There are only two things preventing this from being a one-star review:
    - The repairs to my car came out well
    - They were really nice and seemed to genuinely care how it came out

And for the rest of the experience, it was a bit frustrating...
I went here because they had a relationship with my insurance company, but apparently part of that relationship meant they couldn't agree on the costs of the repairs and kept calling me to complain.  I'm not sure if B&D was trying to bleed the insurance company for extra money, or genuinely needed it for repairs.  Either way, relatively basic repairs took over two weeks to get done.

In addition, they only accept credit cards up to $500, or cashier's checks.  Since the most basic auto body repair costs at least $300, this was a little tough to navigate.  I ended up paying the majority of the cost in cash.

So, basically, I wish I read the other reviews on this place before dropping my car there.

I've been taking my cars to Bobby and Sean for 20  years and have never had an issue with them.  They're a little shop and put a lot of pride and sweat into the work they do, so sometimes it takes longer to get jobs finished.  BUT, they are always friendly, they always go to bat for you with the insurance companies and have always returned my phone calls.

I've recommended them to many friends who have also had good experiences.

I, for one, had a completely different (positive) experience with this place.  An accident left me needing a new left rear door, new bumper, left rear wheel rim, and of course a paint job to top it all off.

All the new parts were beautiful, and the paint job (for which I had admittedly low hopes) was perfect.

Turnaround time was just over the initial 2-week estimate.

The only complaint that I see *some* merit to is that it can be difficult to get them on the phone.  I had the benefit of living nearby, so it wasn't difficult for me to dropp by a couple times to touch base.  Maybe that helped the relationship, who knows.  Anyway, whenever I stopped by he showed me where they were at with the car, gave me a revised estimate, and even remembered my name.

As soon as the repairs were ready, I got a call, handed over the check from my insurance (Commerce -- who, by the way, had taken care of all the above-and-beyond costs without involving me at all), and drove off.

Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

I would like to rate this place less than 1 star, but it's not an option.  I think about a 0.04 on a scale of 0 to 5 would be appropriate.

My story is all the more painful since it was not my car, but a friend's car, that I was having repaired.  If the damage they did was done to my car I could live with it, but it's much more painful that I was a vehicle (pardon the pun) for delivering insult and injury to a friend's car.

The car in question was a Toyota Corolla, which one might think would be relatively simple and not-so-expensive to repair.  Elsewhere it might have been, but not here.

The job took much longer than expected and much, much longer than promised (over 5 weeks!), the repair was not done well and additional repair needed to be done at another shop, and the charges were insanely high.

The shop was difficult to reach on the telephone, and people were not reliably there when I came by during business hours.

The parts used were inferior quality after market stuff, and one of the parts had to be replaced as it was defective.

I cannot explain why I took my car to this shop.  I would like to get my money back, but the thought of dealing with them again is more painful than the extortionately high price I paid to them in the beginning.

For the love of all that is good, please do not take your car to these people!

Very pleased with the repairs to our new car which had extensive front-end damage following an unfortunate crash into a building.  They used all Subaru parts and best of all, they did all the negotiations with the insurance company when additional appraisals were necessary.   The last place I went to made me be the go-between with the insurance company and eventually I gave up and ended up paying out of pocket for repairs that should have been covered.
They don't have someone in the office waiting for the phone to ring, so expect to leave a message and get a call back when they take a break from the shop out back.
I was surprised to see the poor reviews because when the guy from Enterprise rental car came to pick me up he said that they pick up a lot of people from dropping off their cars there and that B&D does good work.

I took my car in after another car caused some pretty bad damage to mine, and it was on the verge of being totaled. Ok, so the reason it gets the 2 stars is because the end result was good and the car looks back to normal...
however, I asked them for an estimate, and they proceeded to take my car apart and order parts before I had decided what to do about it, even though I explicitly explained to them to let me know if they were going to irreversibly take apart the car. The back and forth between them and the insurance company was very very lengthy and somehow I was always involved so I dont know who was at fault here. Then the insurance company stopped payment on my rental car because B&D auto refused to give out information about when they ordered parts, implying that they had done this in not such a timely fashion...then B&D auto tried to tell me that they were 'within their rights' to not give up that information, but really the only person that suffered from this was me, so I just gave up arguing with the auto co. and the insurance company.  Also it was very hard to get ahold of someone at B&D auto while these complications were going on.  So bottom line, the job got done, but I don't think I'd go back.
