I went with the pork plate with baked potato salad and creole slaw as the sides.
The pork was really good. To be honest, I've never had bad barbeque pork, so it was on par with most others.
The potato salad was OK. It could have used a little more flavor.
I really like the creole slaw.
Sweet tea was a plus as well. -

I thought bbq at the Farmers' Market was kind of a gimmick. I mean, why wouldn't it be? Tourist trap with the region's staple cuisine, yeah I think I'm going to stay away, thanks. What stopped me though was that their sign had bacon/cheddar grits Monday and garlic cheese grits everyday. I love grits and my gf loves cheese AND grits. So, that decided the lunch place for the day.
I went with the pulled chicken plate and got the bacon/cheddar grits and mac and cheese while the gf got the garlic cheese grits and a corn muffin. I liked the plate and the bacon/cheddar was pretty good. I could have used a little more bacon flavor but the mac and cheese was still a treat. My gf fortunately, liked her garlic cheese grits better than mine and liked her corn muffin. A touch of sweetness and a great texture so much so that I ate the last of my girl's corn muffin to her shock and disappointment-she was saving the last bit to savor and I swooped in and ate. Their sauces are pretty amazing, a good variety of sauces and all different, vinegar, mustard, and hot were all discernible from one another and not just cookie cutter sauces with just a little bit of difference.
Fortunately/unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of chicken on my plate so I went back and got more food from there. I could use some more food for my money but the food itself is quality. -

What can I say, I love this place. I typically go to the Farmers Market once or twice a week for lunch and more often than not, I end up waiting in line for my BBQ at B & C.
The BBQ is moist enough that you can eat it without the sauces they carry and still enjoy your meal, and if you are lucky enough to be in line on days they carry brisket, you'll be truly happy you chose B & C. Fill up the sample cups the first time you go to figure out which sauce you like best, and I gaurentee you'll be in "hog heaven" (pun intended). If you're the kind of person who loves to know about secret "off the menu" items, ask for the white sauce. I believe it has a horseradish base, but it goes great on any of the sandwhiches.
Fellow yelpers have mentioned the grits, and I agree...order them if you want to try something truly special. My personal favorites are the buffalo chicken and the taco grits. If I order a plate instead of a sandwich (plates get two sides), I usually also order the cornbread pudding and put a bit of their spicy BBQ sauce on top to finish off my meal.
One last tip if you chose to swing by, ask for pickles. A BBQ plate just isn't complete without pickles, and for some reason, you have to ask for them to get them at B & C.Listed in: Best Places for Good BBQ

B & C Market BBQ is one of my new favorite barbeque joints. My husband loves this place and brought me here for lunch at the Farmer's Market. I was a little reserved at first site considering it's ran like a cafeteria line. I was thinking, "How good could it possibly be?"
I ordered the pulled pork plate with the Mexican grits and macaroni and cheese. I cleaned my plate. That is very rare, especially when it comes to eating barbeque - something I rarely eat. I couldn't believe how good it was. The pork was so tender, I could easily pull it apart with my plastic fork. The Mexican grits had a nice kick to them and the mac and cheese was baked like Grandma used to make. Very good. I will be a returning customer to B & C.
Tip: B & C BBQ is one of the only eateries in the Farmer's Market that offer free refills on beverages. -

One of the better BBQ options in Nashville, their pork has an awesome taste and texture. Plenty of residual collagen, so not too dry, but with an awesome bacon-smoke flavor. One of the few BBQ joints in Nashville that can stand without sauce, and indeed, I recommend going without it at least the first time. Love those corn muffins, too!
I also commend them on adding a fryer after the flood renovations. I resent BBQ joints that try to avoid selling fries, because it generally suggests they are being too cheap to operate a fryer. The fries aren't a high point (really need to be thicker) but at placated my value sense. they really could stand to ditch the meat and three sides and go for something a bit more modern. Everybody does those same sides in Nashville, so it is hard to stand out, although they do experiment with the grits and egg rolls.
They do tend to get a bit sluggish at lunchtime, due to popularity, and they could stand to have a bit more space or a more efficient layout. One person ordering something fried means an awkward standing customer in the narrow service area, for example. They also only have certain things on certain days, like brisket, that really confuse new customers. Service is otherwise excellent, but overall score reduced to 4/5 for efficiency and side issues.
They have a customer loyalty program, which is to be commended. -

You gotta love a place that stakes it's reputation on Grits. The rotating selection of grits and side dishes is what really sets B&C apart from other barbecue joints in town. Taco grits, buffalo grits, cheddar garlic grits and even chocolate grits. They are takin the grits uptown in the downtown farmer's market.
The barbecue is good, but good barbecue is not to hard to come by in this town if you know where to look. The reason to make a trip to the farmers market is for the specialty grits, corn salad, smoked hamburgers, smoked salmon and all the other creative things that B&C does. -

So my favorite thing here are the 'crack' grits as I call them. They are that addictive. They have a garlic cheese every day and then a second flavor that rotates - flavors like pizza or buffalo chicken. I am not sure what they do but these grits are incredible and even folks that don't think they like grits like them.
I always get the pulled pork and play with all their sauces which are all great. A friend told me they tried the brisket the other day and it was about the best brisket he had ever had. It's all good.
The sides are so good that it's hard not to just get a plate of sides - from the macaroni and cheese to the baked beans and the baked potato salad.
They also do catering and not just bbq catering, and I have had that and been very impressed, especially with the bite sized desserts. -

pork egg roles were rich and different for a bbq menu. Tasty.
Mac and cheese wasn't anything special. but the cheese and garlic grits were fabulous!
Customer service lacking, but overall okay. -

Since I live across the street from Nashville Farmers' Market, I eat in the market food court frequently. B&C is one of my regular haunts and I like it! Their BBQ is good but I don't think quite as good as Jack's. But their variety of veggies and salads beats them all! Plus they have a different flavor of grits every day of the week and some days two!
Saturday I ate there and chose a 3-vegetable plate with green beans, chipote corn, and the cucumer & tomato salad plus a cornbread muffin. It was good and healthy and I would be wise to do veggie plates more often! Their sweet tea is great too, but I'm trying to stick with water for now. (Can I lose 10 lbs by not drinking sweet tea?) Hmmmm. -

B & C (or Bacon & Caviar, if you please) is a recent addition to the Farmer's Market food court. First, I should say that I'm glad this place is finally done with the renovations. Second, I should say that I really enjoy having B & C on the short-list for lunch options.
It's fast, it's good, it's well-priced with good portions, and the staff is friendly. What more could you ask for?
I had the daily Wednesday special, which was smoked salmon with sides of baked beans and garlic cheese grits ($7.95) and a coke ($1.25).
The fish was outstanding, it had a slight cajun rub and was perfectly smoked and steamed inside it's foil wrap. The sides were good, perhaps lacking a little salt, but otherwise really good. I really appreciate the three styles of sauce they had - mild/vinegar, med, and hot.
Along witht he other great options at the Farmer's market, B & C is now on my short list for lunch -

I may not go to farmers market and eat here in my next visit,(tatz coz i have to try the jamaican restaurant there next) but I liked the ribs here.

Food and service used to be top notch. Went there on 5/18 and the grits were stone cold and the service sub-par. Time to move on to another eatery.

I have been here a few times and got close to the same thing every time. I get the pork and grits plate with mac and cheese and fried okra. The real key to the meal, as many people have noted, is the grits. I do not like grits generally, but I could eat a tub of this stuff. Barbecue has been a little dry at times, but is generally good. Especially when you add one of the sauces to it. Fried okra is done just right, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The mac and cheese varies quite a bit. I have had it be amazing, some of the best I have had on some visits, and rather ordinary on others. Still my favorite lunch at the Farmers' Market.

I just tried the new B&C next to the Melrose Kroger. Dinner was a disappointment. The pulled chicken was dry and overseasoned (too much black pepper). The baked beans were delicious, but the corn pudding was disgusting: gummy and cheesy. The cornbread was sweet but acceptable. In short, there won't be a return visit.
