Review from Mr F G and Ms M S.
Flushing, NY
i was walking to meet my friend when I saw this little buffet place that looked interesting, so I told my bf, let's go there!
And boy we were glad we made the trip.
Minimal simple decor, the TV was playing to one French speaking channel, some wall photos about American and African leaders. When we were there, the patron were all male, mostly just came for some quick food before they continue on their way.
It was a buffet style, you pick the food and weight it, $5.96/pound. it's a bit hard to describe the food, some green mush, lots of chicken in various style, white rice, brown rice, yellow rice, fruits. But overall it's delicious, filling, cheap, a no nonsense place.
My only complaint is I wish they made the food warmer...
So next time you are in midtown, in the mood to have some cheap-fast-greasy-filling food but not typical fast food junk, stop by and experience it yourself! -

This place is so RANDOM but I love it! It's a hole in the wall, plain little buffet restaurant with mainly African men as its clientele. That's when I knew it would be good! You walk in, grab a styrofoam (shame on them) container and load up. The buffet consists of mostly unmarket vats of rice, curries, fried chicken, stewed greens, beans, etc. Don't ask too many questions (there's no one to ask actually) just try a little of everything that looks good. At $6 or so a pound, you really can't go wrong.

oh! as in, oh, hell yeah! it's nothing fancy, but it's one heck of a comfort food buffet. and it tastes like someone's mom made it "kind of good". i really am no expert on african food, but in a sense, it's like a twist of indian/ethiopian food. i had a little bit of everything and it came to 5 bucks. when i went on a saturday afternoon, there were just a handful of people. it's pretty laid back, and how great is that, not having to wait for a bunch of people to make their way around the buffet? it's pretty freakin great is the answer. the selection is real fine, too. i'm goin back, like, a lot.

I am usually skeptical of small buffet-type places, but uniformly good Yelp reviews were encouraging enough to give this place a try.
I enjoyed a variety of rice dishes and braised meats. I would've appreciated more labels, but everything was quite good.
It was also inexpensive; a reasonable portion was under $5. -

At $6 a pound, definitely try a little bit of everything. I think I paid $1 for a Trinidadian ginger beer to wash it all down.
My favorite, by far, were the fava beans. I don't know what they are cooked in, but they were delicious. My dining companion agreed they were the best.
The jerk chicken falls off the bone. The plantains are excellent. The mac & cheese is sufficiently cheesy. There was a mystery pasta + collards dish that was my second favorite. No idea what it was called. Some things aren't marked or the descriptions meant nothing to me. A soft-spoken woman came out to replace one of the trays and I asked her what one dark green mush was. She said it three times and I think I heard "potato." I tried a little. It was fishy. Not a fan. But hey, I tried it. Whatever it was.
The place is very clean. I would definitely go back, perhaps just for the beans!Listed in: Penn Station area lunchtime…

I haven't had African food before and I also hesitated to enter when I saw that the food was served buffet-style. Reluctantly, I let my energetic co-worker drag me in where she began pointing out the different items and telling me what's really tasty or full of flavor (this took a while since she pointed at practically everything). It's $6 a pound, but I've made several trips to them since my first lunch and I haven't gone over $5 before for a container full of food.
I took a little bit of everything and the total was about $5. I have no idea if my terminology is correct, but I took a little bit of some green mush, collard greens, jerk chicken, plantains, curry, and an orangey-reddish really short-grain rice-looking dish. We sat down outside on a beautiful sunny day near our workplace and then dug into our food - VERY wonderfully tasty. Again, I've never had African food before, but what B&B serves is absolutely amazing.
The food is definitely quite filling. I'm the type of person that is usually hungry again within a few hours, but this food always leaves me feeling satisfied for at least 5-6 hours. They're very consistent with the quality of their food and the menu items don't generally change. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is daring enough to try it. If you're not someone who is open to trying new things, don't go there. -

West African/West Indian food in the Garment District? You've got to be kidding me - right?! I didn't believe it until I went, and went, and went, and went again. The food is really good. I will also share that I've had almost everything there.............
But every now and then when I go there for my lunchtime, they have no food ready :( -

Whoa this is my first review on Yelp. I've been using yelp for quite some time and pretty much the places I've been others have had the same opinion. But, this place inspired me to actually write a review. More so because it straight surprised the panties off me :).
It is a whole in the wall and very unassuming. At first glance some might scowl at it being buffet-style and you pay by the pound. I've eaten in many places ranging from Michelin Stars to ones where you use one hand to eat and the other to fan flies away. As long as the food is amazing who cares!! So back to B&B, at buffets I have a simple strategy...get a little of everything regardless of how it looks and then go back for the best ones. I don't know how they accomplished it but everything I tasted was delicious. Everything was piping hot. After inhaling my whole plate, I went back for more of everything but of course getting more of my favorites. On the second plate I savored each and every bite literally, I think I started humming or something because other patrons started to laugh, most of them were West African so I got to practice my French and they warmed up to me and started telling me the name of the dishes...which I don't remember.
I am definitely going back. If you like good food and adventure go and try it out. C'est si bon......Vraiment!! -

I went back with a friend this time on a Wednesday night around 7:30ish.I got the seasoned rice thing which was delicious and the greens. There was no jerk or curry chicken this time (sad face) only a whole fish for $10 a piece. My friends meal was about $11 mine was about 5 (but this time I got only 3 items since I did not get meat. This time the food was really oily.

It's a hole-in-the-wall. Bright lights, about 10 tables in the back, buffet style like any old deli on any old block... but it's West African and it's delectable.
Their print out menu lists what's what; otherwise you might not know what you're eating. Some dishes are easily identifiable - grilled lamb, beef fried rice -- and some are not -- sorrel sauce with beef, lamb & fish palm oil sauce, and corn with beef and cows feet.
I've tried about 7 different things and they were all delicious. My fave was actually the fried chicken. It was moist and the skin was crunchy and packed much flavor. The curry chicken is mild and falls off the bone. Plantains are big, soft and not-too-sweet.
The staff is friendly and a bit shy, the clientele is random althought I suspect many of them are cab drivers, and it's open 24 hours!!! You're not going to get a better meal at 5AM in the whole city. -

New York, NY
So, I was temping in the Flatiron/Madison Sq. area and being on a budget I was wandering the street looking for a cheap lunch spot. It is then that I stumbled onto this pearl of a restaurant on West 26th Street. Now, I preface my review by saying that I'm torn about even posting my opinion on this one! It is SO, SO, SOOOOO GOOD that I'm afraid that it'll become terribly popular and soon after, terrible. I've had this happen before, so it is with some trepidation that I sing their praise-song.
I normally avoid the buffet scenario. I'm a paranoid NY'er and I've seen/heard horror stories about what some of the more disgusting amongst us do to open food containers, but there was something about B&B that called to me. Alas, I am overjoyed that I heeded the call.
Bright, unassuming and IMPECCABLY CLEAN, B&B is an AMAZING buffet featuring African, African-American & Caribbean cuisine. Peeking in the kitchen I saw a bevy of beautiful African men & women hard at work busily preparing some of the MOST DELICIOUS food I've had away from home in a LONG TIME! From the staples, like mac-n-cheese, collard greens and fried chicken, to the more exotic (to SOME NY'ers) fare like stewed cow foot, curried goat, oxtails and VARIOUS pilau rice dishes, EVERYTHING is absolute perfection. Keep in mind, you won't find any pork at this Halal version of heaven, but trust me, you won't miss it - AT ALL!!! There are so many meat choices, curries, brownstews, pepper-pots, chicken, lamb, beef and goat, it's hard to choose, but DON'T waste too much time picking when you could be eating because it's ALL GREAT! SERIOUSLY!!! Everything is deftly prepared - bold, yet restrained, spicy yet complex - in a word - sublime. You can see it with the naked eye. Bay leaves, peppers, onions, flecks of herbs and the mustardy-yellows of Caribbean style curries abound. Each day there are at least 4 kinds of rice dishes, some dark brown pilaus cooked with lamb and chicken, some with beans cooked together with the rice - all perfect foils for the delicious gravies and sauces that you will surely spoon over in copious amounts. Then, there's the curried peas, peppery spinach, fried plantains, collard greens and lightly braised cabbage to pile onto your plate (we've got to eat our veggies, people!) next to your meat! And just like your favorite infomercial - WAIT! THERE'S MORE!!! Fresh fruits and salads are ALSO offered at the end of the buffet, if you make it down there!!!! All in all, B&B is a culinary-comfort-dream from which I am loathe to wake. Now that I've shared 26th Street's best kept food secret, I am begging you, PLEADING WITH YOU, please don't tell.... -

So good and so many choices! And as others mentioned $6/lb! I had the curried goat, peppered steak and some kind of fish stew. The fish stew was the favorite but the others were also good. The veggie dishes were tasty as well. I tried the stewed peas, cabbage and greens. And of course platanos!

New York, NY
The food was very dry from setting on the buffet all day. Apparently, the cook prepares the food once per day and the food is displayed until it runs out. The entrees are either mislabeled or unlabeled, so you never know what exactly it is you are testing. The lazy staff lounges near the back tables "shucking and jiving" all day. Initially, I thought they were customers, until one--reluctantly--shuffled his way to cash register to overcharge me for the dehydrated food. The three glasses of water I drunk was quickly absorbed by the dry food in my stomach making a weighty push against my lower bowels. I made the mistake of asking to use their restroom. I wasn't in there one minute, before one of the idiots on staff started banging on the door. I yelled, "it's occupied!" This idiot knocked on the door repeatedly, for the next 10 minutes. Then grinned like a Cheshire cat when I gave him the evil-eye while exiting the restroom. NEVER AGAIN!
