The salon is beautiful, clean, minimal, and has amazing lighting which is so important in a salon so that you can get the true color of the hair. It faces the street side so it allows for lots of natural lighting.
I've been to Azur West before and did the Complete ceremony which is a combination of their scalp and hair treatment and is about an hour long. It was amazing! You go into a private room where the stylist presents you with a tray of different types of oil. They asked what you are looking for and also give suggestions. I wasn't sure what I went with. You can use your own music from your iPod if you choose too. They give you an sleep eye mask and you just lean back while they give you an incredible scalp massage. It was like getting a super shampoo which we all know is one of the best part of going to the salon.
My second time I used a Living Social coupon which included the scalp treatment, haircut, and style. Vickie did my scalp treatment is she is wonderful and was so nice. It's supposed to be a quiet relaxing time but I had too much fun chatting it up with her though. Let me tell you her shoulder massage with the hot rocks was amazing. I didn't want it to stop. My scalp felt great after the treatment. I usually have an oily scalp and she suggested the peppermint treatment which was very invigorating.
Although I am extremely loyal to my colorist at Craze, I am a little more adventurous when it comes to trying new stylists. Siyan was my stylist and she did a consultation with me and knew exactly what I wanted. My hair is long and I was just looking for a shape up and to lighten up the layers without losing any length. She did exactly that. My blow out was gorgeous and she hardly put any hair products in my hair. My hair was shiny, silky, and bouncy. I left feeling like Hollywood!
Everyone that helped me there were extremely friendly and the service was top notch.
Oh and my new favorite hair product in the world is now Shu Uemure Essence Absolute Oil! -

Terrible service by the owner Greg. It's one of those places where they train their own stylists rather than hire professionally trained people. So when one of their stylists makes a mistake, they don't apologize. They don't even try to understand you. Instead you get A LOT of attitude. The owner himself is the worst. He acts like a super famous, rich diva and talks down to you in a demeaning tone. If you love that type of place, go ahead!
Oh, and the haircut was prettyyyy bad for $130 (including tip), the stylist with "6 years experience" couldn't get a standard layered cut right. It looked chopped up and messy and she kept putting product to make it look decent. But I guess that's what happenswhen you go to a fancy looking place where you get an ice tea with a pink straw, but the actual people are not professionally trained. -

So I've been exposed to what I call the "expat cut" for about a year while I was working overseas in Saudi Arabia. Each time I went to get a hair cut it just became worse and worse. The expat cut consisted of a bowl cut on top and very short sides, and letting it grow out made it worse. Once I got back from Saudi, my girlfriend (who has been very close friends/customer with the owner for over 12 years) told me I needed to go to Azur West. At first I was hesitant because how upscale it was, and being a guy, I believed a salon of this class was unnecessary. I however was completely wrong.
I highly recommend Katie Sullivan (I think that's her last name). She was very friendly and completely honest with her suggestions to "fixing" my situation. She did an amazing job and very happy to say she did the impossible: fix the expat cut. It's very rare when a guy feels "good" after a haircut, and that's exactly what I felt. I will be going back to see Katie from now on. The entire crew there is great and very personable, just a good feel to the place.
Location is great to, I usually meet my girlfriend after she gets her hair done and we grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants or a drink at the one of the places near there.
Added plus, they serve wine and vodka...something you could be thrown in jail or kicked out of the country in Saudi...I'm just sayin'....

A few months ago I had the daunting task of getting my hair camera ready for my October nuptials. Fortunately for me I chose Azur West. I was lucky enough to have owner Greg Decker, create beautiful color and highlights that were simply wonderful. Knowing that my schedule would not always be able to coincide with Mr. Decker's often filled appointment book, I was put into the most capable hands of Katie. For someone who is new to the floor, she has the confidence and skill level of a seasoned stylist. She is easy going yet very professional. While she is a great colorist she has some mad styling skills! I seriously do not want to wash my hair for few days after she has styled my hair to perfection....but I do, fully aware, that I can always go back if I want a sassy new look for a party or special event.
I was so happy with my hair on my wedding day! I wore it down with a crystal headband. Katie created a look that was natural yet stayed in place throughout the evening. I loved it! I felt like Katie really listened to me when I told her how I wanted to look on my special day.
Did I mention that the staff is fantastic? While Azur is located in one of Houston's toniest neighborhoods, the staff at Azur are warm and welcoming. They always ask if I need a drink or would like a magazine. Even when they are incredibly busy they seem to be aware of everyone's needs.
I love Azur and always look forward to my next visit! -

I redeemed my tidbit hair ceremony + haircut at Azur West because I love Shu Uemura products and wanted to experience the hair ceremony. It was AMAZING and will definitely return for the treatment. Mark who performed the treatment explained everything in detail throughout the process. My hair is super shiny and with the scalp treatment/massage I felt super relaxed.
so..why the 2 stars? Because the haircut part was simply the worst I have ever gotten. I have long straight hair and wanted a trim on my ends and bangs. Amy was my stylist, she said shes been with Azur for over 2 years. She is friendly and easy to talk to. However, she does not know how to trim and DEFINITELY does not know how to cut bangs. She even asked me to point out what kind of bangs I wanted in a binder of pictures and in the end my bangs looked NOTHING like what I asked for. She cut only a part of my front bangs and got confused when she was left with the rest in the back that she clipped back! I had to trim it myself after and now I look like an idiot-like my younger sister cut off my bangs in anger while I was sleeping. -

I wasn't sure what to expect when my stylist, Amy Morgan, informed me that she was going to be at a new salon, Azur West. I was glad that she was going to continue with the Azur family, since I was very happy at Azur, but was optimistically anxious about the new location.
Upon my first trip to Azur West I was completely sold! I have had many visits now and every visit is just as good as the first! This salon is in a wonderful location with ample parking. The shops and restaurants surrounding Azur West are great so when I go for a hair appointment it is great to finish it off with happy hour at Eddie Vs or do some shopping. The interior of the salon provides a relaxing yet super chic environment. The front desk staff are very attentive and friendly. They get to know their customers and they take great care of them.
Amy Morgan, my stylist, provides me with the best hair color and cuts I have ever had and also provides great company during the session. She is simply amazing! I have very fine, straight, long blonde hair and she knows just how to deal with my most stubborn and lazy hair. I always leave feeling like a new person! Oh and my husband has a thick head of curly dark hair that has unfortunately had many horrible cuts in the past but both he and I both ADORE the cuts that he gets from Amy! She is AWESOME!!!
Oh and the yummy wine that is provided during the visit is like the cherry on top of a perfect sundae! LOVE LOVE LOVE AZURE WEST AND STYLIST AMY MORGAN!!!! -

When the folks at Azur Shepherd told me that my stylist moved to Azur West in the West Ave building on Kirby, I was excited at getting a chance to try out a new location from this great company at this new trendy location.
Azur provided me with more than just the usual great hair cut, Azur West gave what could be a religious experience.
Azur West is a Shu Uemura Salon (something I've never seen before -- SU products in salons, yes; SU Salon status, no) and I'm a Shu Uemura product user, so I figured I had to try it out. I came to find out that Azur West is a Shu Uemura "Temple" Salon, designation and sponsorship that's pretty tough to get in the States since there are only 2 others in the country. If Azur West has the gumption to go there, I knew I could too.
Let's start with just walking in the salon...I was completely impressed with the calming white interiors, elegant lighting and luxurious display of products in the waiting area, the sleekest interiors a hair salon could possibly have that include clean edges, furniture of ultra design and what could be the most high-tech (and comfortable!) shampoo bowls on the planet.
The front desk staff have personal attention down to an art form with calm, yet welcoming demeanor and instant recognition for customer attention. I was immediately greeted, asked what I would like to drink then escorted to the changing room to put on a kimono. After I was dressed, I was escorted to the color bar and my water was waiting for me along with 2 magazines. Yep. I'm in instant love.
My services included color, a SU ceremony (scalp massage and treatment) and a men's haircut.
Heather was my colorist and quite honestly gave me the best color consultation and service I've ever received. Her professional demeanor and expert knowledge of hair color needs for men, she provided me with a delightful experience where I can honestly say she gave me my natural hair color and was so attentive, that I just know I will see her again for future services.
Michelle performed my Shu Ceremony in the private treatment room. Decorated in cool spa-like Asian themes, this is a must-do service that is unlike any other I've experienced. You are free from the main floor's buzz of activity and surrounded in the private room's serene music and excellent scalp massage. Again, I'm in love.
Tony, my stylist gave me a rocking hair cut as usual. He is methodical and most definitely can cut men's hair. What I love about Tony is that he gives me a "look" when I leave his chair. A look that I love and that is my own. Love, love love.....
A new paradigm has been set for ultra high-end salons in Houston. Azur|West provides super-style with professional wisdom and talent along with my favorite hair care products. The combination creates a zen experience. It's no doubt going to be Houston's best hair salon.
What could be better? Not much really but I'd recommend the salon have open access Wi-Fi. I'm sure this is going to happen but given how new the salon is, I give it a pass for now.
Overall: 5 Stars (or 5 Love's given how many times I used that word in my review)

Yesterday I had a cut with a new senior stylist, SIYAN HEM.
Aside from the time I cut my own bangs in 2nd grade it is the WORST HAIRCUT I've ever had. When I went in, my hair was almost to my lower back. It had some split ends and needed more than trim but I got butchered!! My expectations were to lose 2-3 inches and clean up the layers...instead I walked out 4-5" shorter with layers so severe I feel like a masculine 80's head banger cross mullet (I can't even pull some of the layers in a ponytail). Horrible. Losing the extra length would have been manageable but the botched layering job has left me scarred. Foregoing care for sounding pathetic, every time I look in the mirror, I literally want to cry (and sometimes do).
I was totally stunned when it was over and left hoping when I got home for a closer inspection I would adjust to the change and love it. Nope. To further confirm my horror, my boyfriend gasped at the cut and his first instinct was to try and comfort me. Later that evening, I went to my company Christmas party where when expressing my concern for the new look, several coworkers agreed it looked awful but assured me it'd grow out. :(
Siyan was personable but I would NEVER return to her for a cut. The salon is nice...pretty status quo for an upscale salon. I live nearby so I was really hoping to love it. I've never been motivated to write a Yelp review until now, the cut is that bad. If you have Siyan cut your hair - I would caution you to be very clear about your expectations and pay attention. I wish I had. -

I bought the Tidbits Treats to use this salon for the first time and I'm sold. Great location, easy parking, friendly staff. Katie did a great job with my hair and listened to what I needed/wanted done with it. I will definitely be back.

I usually find someone to cut my hair by word-of-mouth through friends, but when I moved to Houston from NYC, I was at a loss for where to go. So I went straight to Yelp and found Azur by random pick. I'm happy I gave this salon a chance because I will never go anywhere else in Houston.
I booked my first appointment with JOEL for highlights and a haircut, and I was extremely happy with everything! He's excellent at both cut and color, and he books up super fast so you have to make an appointment weeks in advance. When I couldn't get another round of highlights with him on the day I wanted, Azur recommended HEATHER who is an expert colorist. She recently moved here from DC and doesn't have a full client book yet, but not for long. I think I received the BEST highlights I've ever had in my entire 10 years of getting color. Not only is the color natural-looking, but my hair is super shiny and healthy-looking. Both HEATHER and JOEL take their time with you and really try to understand just what you want. If you're like me, you probably have half an idea of what I want and let the stylist do the rest. I feel totally comfortable letting Joel and Heather call the shots because they both know their stuff. They also keep their skills sharp by going to classes in New York and LA.
The color they use lasts for a LONG time! So you can go 2-3 months before your next color. Also, when Joel cuts your hair, it looks great in all stages of grow out. I don't know what he does, but it's MAGICAL! Trust me, you're in good hands at Azur West. From start to finish, I have not one complaint, and I'm extremely happy with my hair.
