This restaurant is a poser.
Who ever owns this place must be rich. This place has no sense of urgency to succeed. Every customer facing employee we delt with was apathetic, lazy, entitled, imposed upon, and out right rude.
Service sucks! Since when is it that I have to initiate conversation when the server walks up to my table? ..... Uh....hi? Yeah.
The food is not good. Take away their signature lobster creeps, and this place is abominable.
We will never go back. Terrible. Azur you suck. -

Located in a strip mall, it's not exactly where you would think to find fine dining. We went for lunch. The lamb burger was perfect. Really tasty. Regular fries and truffle fries were great - match stick kind. Like all good food places, awful beer options on tap. Whey can't good food understand craft beer? Otherwise, great, and we're going back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Azur the last time we were in Lexington. I hope to make it back again during our current visit. I want to try another order of calamari which we enjoyed as a shared appetizer. Some of their specials have been sounding interesting lately and I want to go back to try something different after having the excellent beef short ribs on our last visit.

Two words: LOBSTER CREPES. Oh my gaaaawd.
Seriously, food orgasms are real. If you're not lactose intolerant and not worried about your cholesterol, may I recommend the lobster crepes with some white wine? I also asked the waiter to add a little spring mix with balsamic on the side, which he happily agreed to, and I was in food heaven. Ridiculously delicious.
My family ordered all sorts of great-looking and great-tasting food, but I seriously don't remember any of it because I was too absorbed in my lobster crepes. Doesn't matter though because you can't go wrong. Every time I've eaten here it's been amazing. I've also tried the calamari and the grilled portobello mushroom. All were done to perfection, and they don't skimp on presentation either! The food almost looks too good to eat. Good thing they are too delicious to just sit and stare at.
This place is a little on the pricey side, so not great for college students on a tight budget, but I'd even go so far as to suggest saving up and trying it for a special occasion. The patio is great for parties.
And did I mention LOBSTER CREPES? -

The presentation of the food and the service was great. The atmosphere was ok but the prices were equivalent to an upscale restaurant in down town NYC. The food.... Ok, at best... I would recommend somewhere in downtown Lexington any night.

Casselberry, FL
Nice place with very good ambiance, especially the garden area. Very nicely decorated. I liked the menu, it was fairly small but had something for everyone. Service was very good here. The wild greens salad was one of the best salads I've ever had with a delicious dressing and wonder cheese. The steak was very disappointing after the beautiful salad.
it was a very strange thin cut of Rib-Eye from Alltech that I've never had before? Not particularly tasty and much tougher then I expect from a Rib-Eye. Sure you can run into pockets of fat with a rib-eye but for the whole steak to be that way something was wrong with either the steak or the preparation. -

I ate here with friends because I had heard good comments. The server was slooow and inattentive My wife's pork chop was raw in the center my friend ordered the surf n turf of NZ elk which was so tuff he could not eat it but the lobster was tasty. This place is all smoke and no fire.

I have never been disappointed with the food here. I have been here about 4 times over the past few years. When I am not traveling we do not eat out very often. If I did not love to cook, I would definitely eat here more often, and have to take on a second job to pay for it.
Pros: The menu offers a pleasing variety of options which always present a challenge for me to select the courses which sound best, since everything sounds good and so many appeal to my adventurous culinary nature.
Like most good restaurants, the menu changes pretty often which appeals to my desire to experience something fresh out of the mind of someone who seems like an expert executive chef with a great group of professionals who back him up.
Exciting dining options for foodies in Lexington are pretty limited, and thankfully this one is convenient to where I live and work.
Cons: There are a few strange and somewhat uncomfortable seating options inside which I have not enjoyed, a spot in the back corner or enclosed in the circular thing in the front are to be avoided in my opinion. At my last visit in the late spring, I was put off by the fact that we were seated in that circular pocket near the front door and there must have been serious climate control problems since we were all in the verge of sweating, the table in the circle may not get enough circulation.
Also, any foodie-friendly place should think seriously about offering more creative beer choices. I like wine, I like bourbon, but there is just no excuse for a place like this to not have some decent craft brew choices -- Kentucky Ale is nice but a far cry from special. -

Dined at AZUR tonight and had the chicken stuffed with mozzarella, which is wrapped in prosciutto and served with chipotle mashed potatoes. An excellent meal, through and through. I saw some other items on the menu that looked very promising. Service was competent, but not very warm.
If I lived in the area, I would definitely go back! -

Coming home from San Francisco to the motherland of Kentucky has always been a bit of a culture shock from a culinary perspective... but I can honestly say that the shock has been eased by two wonderful restaurants: Azur and Holly Hill Inn.
I'll review the Holly Hill Inn in another separate review.
Azur is a bit of Napa Valley in the heartland of Kentucky. Actually, it's a lot of Napa Valley --- close your eyes, take a bite, wake up and you might think you're at Mustards bistro in Napa Valley... that's an honest comparison.
I've now been here 3 times, and each time it just gets better. My most recent dinner was spent with my folks and wife, and here's what we had:
ahi tuna carpaccio: thinly sliced , raw sashimi grade ahi in a tasty marinade... excellent. Only wish there was more of it.
Steamed artichoke: tasty -- simple, yet great for its simplicity.
The roast duck: fantastic -- one of the best ducks I've sampled.
Cooked to perfection. Move over KFC.... Kentucky may be famous
for Azur's Roast duck!
Miso Ahi: One of the standard California style sashimi grade ahi,
seared.... but Azur takes another step and wraps it in a crispy
wonton wrapper... never seen this in the SF Bay Area, but take
note Napa Valley --- Azur does it right on!
Pan Fried Kampachi: For those of you who don't know, Kampachi is amberjack -- super tasty when it's fresh. Fresh means $$$. But, Azur knows this and delivers fresh, Hawaiian Kampachi... this was perfectly cooked and not fishy AT all (means it must be fresh). The goat cheese risotto was incredible. Hearty risotto with some awesome fresh greens. I think they were snow pea sprouts, but I can't be for sure. I've NEVER seen this vegetable in KY before. Only in CA. The mushrooms with the risotto were excellent.
Vegetable Medley: this was the only one we didn't care for. It was well-seasoned, but a bit on the oily/greasy side.
Bite Size desserts: What a great idea at 1 dollar each. 3 bite size samples were more than enough:
Bourbon cookies with ice cream: Awesome. Ice cream was light,
with hints of cinnamon and vanilla.
Poached pear: tasty... a bit too sweet for me, but excellent
Peach bread pudding: excellent. I think next time I'm going big
size on the peach bread pudding alone. Or... no maybe I'd go with
three cookies. On second thought... you can't go wrong.
I've met the owner each time I've been there. He's the one in the blazer with a white beard. He knows he's hit the niche in Lexington that foodies and transplants from New York and California have yearned for. But, hitting the niche isn't enough. He's always trying to improve the place. For example... the live music tonight was Grover Mollineaux.... this guy was incredible. Jack Johnson look out. Mark my words: local guitarist/singer Grover Mollineaux will be on to bigger things. I bought his CD tonight and then decided to buy two more to give to friends in California.
I used to be afraid of the food shock when coming home to Lexington from San Fran. No more. Lexingtonians take solace in knowing that the 30-40 dollar meal you just had at Azur would cost you easily upwards of 70 dollars in Napa Valley --- and Azur's quality and innovation are on par with the most famous and popular of Napa Valley's bistros.
The only knock against Azur is the strip mall location, but we are in Lexington... and what's NOT in a strip mall in Lexington these days?
SOLID FIVE stars for bringing what Lexington needed so desperately. Azur and Holly Hill Inn... I will be seeing you on a regular basis when I come home to the motherland... and will actually be excited to eat in Lexington! My advice: go to Azur and look for a day when Grover Mollineaux is playing there. You won't be disappointed.
Lexington is no longer bland Big Boy/ Golden Corral/ Big Chain Applebee's & Chilil's....it has finally expanded its culinary breadth and moved into innovative, new California-style cuisine. THANK YOU, AZUR! -

Dinner was 4/5 star, music & setting were 5/5 star. Best dinner pieces were bruschettta app, lobster crepes, salad w beets & strawberries, and cobbler dessert. Patio setting and live jazz were excellent. $110 for 3, incl 2 cocktails, 2 good wines and 1 dessert. Yum.

So, we went back to Azur for dinner last night and it was exactly like I remembered! Tasty dirty martini, and yes, I ate the same dish as before-filet over smoked mac and cheese. The mac and cheese had huge chunks of pancetta in it-nom nom nom!
HOWEVER.....
They took the chocolate fondue off the dessert list. WHY, GOD, WHY????
Bring it back, dammit!!!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Lexington, KY
I took a friend from overseas to Azur for lunch one day during the week with our two children. We were the only ones in the dining room. The host was extremely rude to us, looking down his nose at our children who are very well behaved and eat out often all over the world. He put us in the back by the toilets. The waitress brought our food and never came back. I will never go back in the evening with adults as I used too. It just left a really bad taste in my mouth and was really embarrassing in front of my overseas friend as a representation of Lexington. Kids or no kids, don't act like someone has the plague when they choose your place to spend money in.

Very meh. I think Jeremy Ashby's quasi-celeb chef status has gone to his head, or possibly the Lovelys are having a hard time making money from this venture, because the service and food have suffered quite a bit since our last visit. We had dinner on a Friday night / Keeneland opening day. At 6:15, we were told we couldn't sit on the patio because all the tables were "booked." At 8 when we left, there were still lots of empty tables on the patio. Seems there could have been a way to accommodate our request, but ok, we didn't book too far in advance.
We did have our choice of inside tables (tho the booths were also "booked." The first inside table we chose was next to a window crawling with flies. So of course we moved but were still annoyed by a couple of drain flies all night. The cheese plate was ordinary - maybe 2 oz of cheese split among 3 pedestrian selections. We ordered it with our drinks but it arrived 20 minutes later (maybe they were trying to make sure the cheese was at room & not refrigerator temperature). The vodka martini came to table warm & without the ordered olives. The waiter brought them on a plate later (fortunately without being asked). Said waiter also advised that one of the specials came with a side of rice "pie lafff," whatever that was. The fried brie & spinach/arugula salad was overdressed and I couldn't spot the arugula; I also thought $12.95 was a lot to spend for an ounce of brie in puff pastry and a half cup of greens. The lamb burger was ordinary, and the accompanying sweet potato fries lost a lot of their charm as they cooled. This is place is trending from what was a more upscale restaurant to one that is more middle of the road, despite high menu prices. There were lots of baseball hat-, t shirt- and cutoffs- wearing patrons. -

Most of the meals are between $16.95 - $39.95. Adding chicken to some of the pasta dishes is about $2.00; therefore, before tax and tip, you are hitting $20 for one plate. The portions are typical of this caliber of restaurant--more money gets you a smaller, less "American style" portion. The food is absolutely delicious with great meats like Bison and Lamb gracing the menu. However, the sous chef and the chef--or whomever it is--mixing the drinks needs another bartendering lesson. The gin was entirely too overpowering in their Kentucky Peach and the Fuzzy Navel was not at all a delightful drink for a lady out on the town. For nearly $11, you would think you could get a decent drink.
If you don't like alcohol, then you will love it here; the food is superbly made and the presentation is nice. The ambience of the restaurant is modern with an extremely open floor plan, so you feel cutting edge whilst you dine. -

Chicago, IL
Azur was ok but not spectacular or anything like that. There was something that was a little off about the atmosphere. I think it was the layout of the place, it seemed too big of a place to be as open as it was. The food was ok but nothing special to write home about.
My two dining companions had mahi mahi and the halibut which they noted was dry. I had them make me a vegetarian plate but it seemed to me like they just put the vegetable sides from the other dishes on one big plate. Their beet salad was tasty.
Most of the people in there were an older crowd so it definitely is not a place to go be seen.
I would have given it 4 stars but it is a little bit to pricey for what it was worth and the vanilla stoli and 7up that I ordered was terrible because their 7up/Sprite was flat.
On the plus side our server was very attentive.

If you are looking for a quick, inexpensive meal, this is not the place. Azur is a restaurant where you should go when you want to splurge a bit, and when you want truly good and interesting food. I went here with my girlfriend the day before Valentine's Day when they had a four course prix-fixe menu. The flavor combinations were delectable. In particular, I enjoyed my entree of pan-seared scallops, over goat cheese mashed potatoes, drizzled with a mango puree sauce. The sweetness of the sauce was a perfect contrast with the strong flavors of the goat cheese, and the scallops were cooked to perfection. If you are a food-lover like me, this place is worth the money.

Azur is one of our favorite restaurants in Lexington. We have never had a bad meal there. Foodies will appreciate the creativity and plating of the cuisine. The specials are always a favorite of my husband. If price is an issue, it is a great place to have some drinks and appetizers. The staff is incredibly attentive and friendly. We always recommend Azur to visitors in Lexington. Great patio in springtime/summer. Lexington is fortunate to have the cutting edge cuisine that Azur serves. Favorites - gruyere fondue, pimento beer cheese sandwich, sweet potato fries/chips, woven shrimp, lamb burger, grilled chicken sandwich, lexington broil.

Service was deplorable at best. Ate a late lunch so the restaurant was near empty. Took 15 min for the waitress to take my order. Forgot my water and when she finally brought it they never refilled it. Had to choke down the second half of my mediocre food. About the food it is average but then again it is hard to mess up grilled salmon. Took another 10 min to get her attention after I was finished to get the check. Did I mention it was dead. I would understand if they had a late lunch rush and were understaffed.

Wonderful food and great ambiance. When I need to take clients to dinner, I know that the Azure experience will be a good one. When relaxed conversation over an excellent meal is called for, Azure is the place.

So actually a friend and I went to this restaurant after finding it on Yelp here. We had the cheese fondue as a starter, which was AMAZING! The main dishes were fine, a bit over priced, but good. The decor was very hip and trendy but I think this place suffers from its location. We noted everyone was in the above 40 suburbanite category, so not much of a social scene like other trendy restaurants in Lexington. I wouldn't be my first pick but it's a nice option to have.
