I would agree with the other reviewers that Azuma probably has the best sushi in Westchester. They are quite expensive with sushi-bar service at $40 a person minimum or a table side medium size sushi platter for 2 at $65. However, the sushi is very fresh and tasty and if you're hankering for it and don't feel like waiting until you're in the city then go for it.
My only other comment is the communication problems with the staff who had a hard time trying to explain their pricing/minimum. When I was there one couple when it was finally explained to them ordered some edamame and left. After my meal I wish that I had left as well since I spent $80 for me and my wife and certainly wasn't wowed. Then again I used to live on Thompson Street, 3 doors down from Tomoe so perhaps I'm spoiled for great sushi at reasonable prices.

Fresh Fresh Fresh Fresh.
Read all the reviews and made a reservation just in case. Started off with a green tea, which actually had flavor compared to the tea at other Japanese places. I ordered a salad and my wife's order had a side salad. The dressing was really good too. A bit tangy and sweet, but not sour at all.
We both had a variety of sushi and all of it rocked. As usual, my favorite was the eel, but the salmon roe was pretty freaking awesome.
Kudos to Miki T. who finds great places and writes fantastic reviews!

Ditto - I'm with Miki T.
I am so finicky about my sushi. It must be fresh...and beautiful. By beautiful I mean I want to look at the masterpeice set before me and know that the chef took care and paid special attention to the presentation. And of course, it must taste awesome.
Azuma will not disappoint you. If you can, make reservations as this is a somewhat small restaurant. They will make every effort to squeeze you in regardless, but if you plan to go during a prime time (7-9pm), it's best to call ahead.
The sushi is amazing, fresh, and tastes like the ocean as it should. And the presentation as I mentioned before is just beautfiul.

What can I say some of the best sushi in Westchester .People travel from Manhattan to eat here and I know why in a word Fresh Fish. Tony always is a gem as well as all the staff the new touch of faux rock wallpaper is a great touch behind the sushi bar. Don't look for any crazy combos just traditional sushi here.

Pretty good authentic sushi. Sometimes the place smells a little fishy. You do need reservations because sometimes I have shown up and been told they were booked (even though the dining room looked pretty empty)
All in all one of the better Westchester sushi places

Amazing, fresh, flavorful fish at this Hartsdale sushi only restaurant. They offer some hot appetizers (fish soup), but everything else is fish. This is a great thing, since it is some of the best sushi I have ever had.
Highly recommend reservations!

Totally agree with the last review!!! i am Japanese so i (well my mom) am very critical of sushi..... This place is it
The fish is so fresh and delicious. Their nigiri suhi has huge pieces of fish with little rice..... this is a sign of good quality sushi because they are NOT trying to get you full with the rice. You can realllllly enjoy the fresh fish!

Hi Yelpers. This is my first review, I just want to get that out of the way. I'll do my best to keep it on topic.
When I moved to the neighborhood last Fall, I had such a hankering for sushi. Azuma is conveniently located a few steps from the Hartsdale Train Station which is the Harlem line on Metro North. When I walked into the restaurant I turned around immediately and walked back out the door. It didn't smell good. Recently I read these reviews on Yelp so I decided to give this place another try last night with my Mom. I'm glad I did. I don't know about you but I usually need a sushi fix every week and it's nice having a restaurant close by for a quick fix. ANYWAY, the fish was fresh. I had salmon, yellowtail & fatty tuna. Butta' . The menu is traditional which according to my server that means there aren't any fancy rolls. They do have rolls, just not your typical Rainbow Roll, Dynamite, etc. They have appetizers, a few choices of salads and soups and hot food. When my Mom asked what was in the Vegetable Salad the response was "green salad and vegetables" when asking which veggies , the server replied you know salad, SALAD! with VEGETABLES!...ok then. She ordered it anyway and it was tasty. The veggies were radishes, tomatoes& cuc's with ginger dressing. BTW, this salad cost $ 9 and was a small bowl....???We didn't have any hot dinners b/c by the time we decided to order the kitchen was closed. Our server kept asking what we wanted (which was annoying) but never informed us the kitchen was closing at 9pm. oh well. I will go back. I'm glad I gave it a chance. It didn't have an overwhelming odor this time and the restaurant is nice and clean.

In my opinion, the best sushi EVER. My family and I have been going there for years. They always have the freshest fish. It is pricey, but high-quality and well worth it.
