I came here for dinner with my coworkers around 6:30pm on a Thursday night. We got there early enough to get a table for seven without anyway wait.

The service is prompt and you get your orders quick.

I didn't try the sushi only cause I know I could get cheaper sushi elsewhere.  Instead, had the crab meat salad ($6)  which was super delicious.  Loved the mixture of textures - soft & crunchy because of the tempura flakes.  I'm sure I could get better somewhere else, but it was definitely a good high point in my meal as with the unlimited wine/sake as long as you meet the $20 mark on your bill!

It goes down hill from here.  I ordered the katsu don ($12) which was the most flavorless piece of pork I've ever had.  Definitely don't order it.

Simply said, would i come back here? Meh. Two stars for the attentiveness of the waitstaff though!

Solid lunch special (which is what I'm commenting on, specifically).

    $11 bucks gets you:

    1. Soup or salad
    2. Hot appetizer (dumplings, spring rolls, etc)
    3. Warm sake or white wine (bottom of the barrel kind, but that's ok)
    4. two rolls

Now, let's get real - none of this is top-notch.  This isn't Marimoto.  It's 11 bucks, people - you get what you pay for.

Solid, fast service.  You can be in and out in 40 minutes if you need to.

All you can drink boxed white wine and poorly made sushi rolls?  Don't mind if I do.  This is a classier/nicer version of New Ashiya or Kumo in the East Village, but still filled with poor NYU kiddies trying to live it up in good ole NYC.

Their food is OK, but their sushi rolls are quite unimpressive.  They were really loose and the fish was falling out of them.  I think this is the place where sushi apprentices come to learn how to make their first roll.  Seriously, the worst.  Service is decent, though they do lag a little bit with the wine because they don't want you getting totally sloshed (a la New Ashiya).  If quality doesn't bother you then this place will do the trick.

Some simple FYIs about this place (you'll thank me later):

1- Don't come for dinner on a Friday or Saturday without a reservation. Just don't do it. (If you do have a reservation, enjoy the party. Seriously - this is the go-to place to pre-game for the 20-30 set.)
2- Free wine or sake with $20 dinner. Sounds exactly the way it reads. You're not coming out of here sober.
3- The sushi is delicious (it's no Morimoto or Bondst but it is very good) (also note: Monday seems to be the off day for the sushi). With some appetizers, you'll hit the $20 minimum in no time. Which brings me to my next FYI...
4- The wine is total shit (but if you read no. 1 you would know no one comes here to drink the wine). The other free option is HOT sake. As a Russian, I do not like my alcohol the same temperature as my sauna. Drink at your liver's risk.

xx anastasia, sushi lover, not hater.
I come here once a week.... you'll never take my mayorship.

We came here accidentally - left Hamachi because of their poor happy hour and happened to walk past.  We got three folding chairs at the small back sushi bar and promptly ordered a bottle of sake when we were told about the special others have mentioned: spend $20, get bottomless sake all night.

I ordered the sashimi platter for $23 and prepared myself for an evening of tomfoolery.  I proceeded to suck down as much sake as possible and eat as slowly as possible.  This is exactly what everyone does.   This is what you expect when you offer someone bottomless booze.  They are going to try to drink as much as possible.  When our sake arrived, we became like the fat tourists slowly grazing Vegas buffets, trying to get every penny's worth.

Thanks to the timestamps on my text messages, I can tell you that we sat down at 7:10, my food arrived around 7:45.  By 8:30 we were getting stink-eye from the wait staff and the sake we were being served got colder and smaller.  After giving us a half full bottle of sake that was ice cold, one of my friends talked to the server.
"Are you guys trying to get rid of us by serving us cold sake?"
    "That sake isn't cold."
    "Yes it is."
"Oh, that sake is cold.  Well, other people are waiting."
"Why wouldn't you just ask us to leave."
    "...."

Listen, if i wanted to feel uncomfortable in a folding chair and subtly disrespected by passive aggressive women, I'd go home.  Next time, I'm taking my $23 and my sake greed and heading over to Iron Sushi.

great place for GROUPS especially if you love UNLIMITED WHITE WINE OR HOT SAKE with your dinner (if you spend a minimum of $20) BUT make a reservation because the place isn't huge!!

    food is not bad:
----salmon avocado salad: yum to fresh avocado!
----manhattan roll: nice crunchy shrimp tempura in the roll

they're pretty accommodating & allow SAKE BOMBING in the restaurant, so don't be shy!

3.5 STARS overall! i probably wouldn't come if i was just lookin' to eat sushi, but its a great spot if you want ALKIE w/ your dinner

Came here because a few of my friends were regulars and persuaded me with the unlimited sake or wine with my meal of $20.

The place gets CROWDED on a Friday evening to the point where they do not take walk-ins. So make a RESERVATION!

The staff is always friendly. They are polite and quick to take your order and the food comes out fast! The best thing I ever ate from them was their Avocado Salad! If you love avocado, you definitely need to order this dish, plus it's super cheap! There's a bunch of avocado and it's served with this delish miso dressing. Their bento box dinners are huge. It comes with miso soup, salad, and a california roll. I tried their tempura and it's like every other Japanese restaurant's tempura. But if you're hungry and want more bang for your buck for $20, get a bento box and the salad or a cheap roll. I've only had their sake. It's hot, hot, hot sake so make sure you let it cool before you burn your throat!

I'm a regular at this place now, but only when I got the cash to add up my meal to $20. It is worth it for the unlimited sake/wine!

Their bathrooms are quaint but clean. Feel free to use either men or women's rooms when the other is occupied!

Azuki is a go to sushi joint for many. The sushi is A-OK but nothing more. I will say the prices are a bit cheaper than other sushi establishments in the area but you're getting what you pay. The sake deal is pretty good although they are very strict and in my opinion, stingy about the rules. The deal here is you pay $20 for food and you get free sake. That means if you pay $19.99, no deal! Just keep that in mind when you come here. I've been here a few times because I have a few buddies who like this place for the added benefits but don't come here looking for an over the top sushi experience, come here to have your belly satisfied and your early night buzzzzzz......

    Awesome special, 1-app, 2-rolls, 1-wine or saki!! bomb!! $11

The food is good, not fantastic, not bad, just good.  The lunch speical is totally worth it when you want a little taste of some sushi!!

not sure about the dinner, but the unlimited wine/saki sounds dangerous.

I have a standing dinner date with a girlfriend of mine from college.  She likes to always meet at this place for some reason. I have nothing against it. I get free, unlimited wine with my sushi! I haven't ever had any bad fish here, and the rolls are large, and reasonably priced.
    Fast and attentive service.
My only annoyance is that they charge me for a side of Ponzu sauce. Every time I refill it. $1. Really?

$11 lunch special includes, a soup or salad, an appetizer, choice of 2 rolls and a glass of wine or sake!!!  For the price, it was well worth it.  I went with a larger group (6 people) and we were looking for something affordable, good and worth the money...it was all those things.

The fried banana split we had was delicious as well!  We ended up walking out of there spending $17 each, with tax and gratuity and very satisfied.  I don't think you can beat that!

When I'm in the mood for sushi, this will definitely be my new lunch spot.

Azuki would be just like any of the other thousands of hole-in-the-wall Sushi spots in NYC, except for their all-you-can-drink Wine or Sake special that comes with a $15 order.  The food is so inexpensive, it's almost difficult to hit this price point - a special roll & 2 appetizers will hit the mark, or get a variety of smaller rolls.

Please order the sake - the house white wine tastes like Hawaiian Punch. It's terrible.  The sushi is good enough - I've definitely had a better spicy scallop roll elsewhere, but the special rolls are huge and they offer a pretty wide variety of fish.  The avocado salad hosts practically an entire avocado as well, it's impressive.

Come here with a group that's looking to get drunk (but not New Ashiya hammered...) for a low price in a nice neighborhood.

I came here for a Grubwithus meal for my birthday in October and they were soooo pleasant and the food tasted great! It was a great value for unlimited wine and a crazy amount of food. I couldn't believe how much they served us! Appetizers of tempura and soy beans. Then a tray full of sushi. It was all delicious and made my birthday a very special night with friends. Thanks, Azuki!

Azuki Sushi is pretty much a no-brainer when it comes to their lunch special. Ten bucks will get you soup or salad, choice of appetizer, two rolls, and sake or wine. When it comes to the included booze, I'm pretty sure it's no sweat off Azuki Sushi's back because, well, there were visible stacks of Franzia boxed wine against the back wall of the dining room. But, hey, I'm not above it - I used to down that shit like it was water back in my formative years. As for the sake, can't say where that's comin' from exactly. Still, it did the trick.

The food itself is a little sub-par, but given the cost, you're gettin' what you pay for. The soup was standard Miso and the Gyoza was a bit burnt, but still tasted fine. As for the rolls, I ordered the Crunch (crab meat) and Yellowtail & Scallion. While I am far from a sushi expert, despite one selection being crustacean and the other fish, I couldn't taste much of a difference between the two. Again, at ten bucks, I am not expecting a taste bud explosion here and for some mid-day sustenance, decent sushi is fine by me.

While I'm not always in this part of town, I genuinely like the neighborhood. Haters complain Union Square is becoming the new Times Square these days, but if you travel just a few blocks off the beaten path, there's a lot more to the area than simply ridiculously over-priced franchised restaurants and a second home for tourists. If anything, Azuki Sushi gives me enough of an excuse to hop on the L and explore this often-misunderstood part of Manhattan.

Ahhh, Azuki.  The place I've gone since I was 18 to make many, many, many mistakes after.  (A lady never reveals her age, but it's safe to say I'm over half a decade past 18 nowadays).

Would I come here without drinking unlimited wine? Oh,no no.  Azuki isn't for just eating- there's many a sushi place a lot better for quality.  You come to Azuki for the experience, complete with the insane hangover the next day.  And I do mean insane...I'm pretty sure they make the wine in a bathtub in the back.   BUT it's all in the good fun of getting trashed, having sushi, being loud, and pregaming, all for the mere price of about $25.

But who's counting? You just can't put a price on blacking out.

I've been here twice now and I would really recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

If you spend some good money on sushi... you get free wine or sake with your meal... who doesn't LOVE free alcohol.

The sushi was better than I expected... I've been searching around the city for a decent Sushi place and I finally have found one.

The main reason I gave this 4 stars, not 5.. is because the service was really slow they didn't seem to really care that we were even there.. at 7:45pm on a Friday night.. oh well, no where is perfect right?

For value, this place gets five stars, for food, three stars, but for ambiance it really gets one.
I haven't been here in a while, but as you probably understand having read others reviews, once you spend $15 (or at least that's what I remember it to be, I saw someone say it was $20) on your order, you get either bottomless saki or wine. Save yourself, don't do the wine, it's very cheap and overly sugary. And we all know what that means! Cheap + sugary = hangover. The saki is pretty good (or perhaps my saki palate is underdeveloped, which is a definite possibility) and if your mission is to come and eat good sushi and get massively drunk, saki does the trick much moire efficiently than does the cheapo wine.
Beyond that, this place is pretty intense on a Friday night. Because of the drink deal it's packed to brim with twenty-somethings eager to jump-start their evening with a little food, and alotta booze. It's loud and cramped. And the high ceilings in this place certainly doesn't help minimize the effect of a lot of semi-drunk people barking out their Friday night plan of attack.
The food here is actually quite good despite the otherwise fratty experience. Try the Tako Su (sliced octopus in vinegar sauce). Very well-prepared, and just the right texture. Additionally, there are a bazillion choices in standard rolls as well as special rolls to choose from, so any sushi lover will really feel at home here.

my friend likes to come to this place because she used to live a couple streets away from it.

i thought it was just OK. i love sushi and in fact i have weekly sushi cravings, but this place didn't really do much for me.

-restaurant is very tightly cramped and there's not much space to walk to get to your table.
-service was not really the best. i had to ask more than once to get some lemon for my water
-sushi was average -- i ordered a salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and a yellowtail roll. three very basic rolls and they were not amazing by any means but they were still pretty good.

ended up coming back here again with the same friend another time and got their bento box for dinner and THAT was certainly good. it was a load of food for about $18 or $19. i ordered a chicken teriyaki bento box that came with house salad, miso soup, shumai, edamame, a sushi roll (i subbed a spicy tuna for a california for a little extra money), veggies, and a side of white rice. this was really good i have to say. i enjoyed the chicken teriyaki and the white rice but again the sushi was just average.

don't really plan on going back though -- i think twice is enough.

I checked out Azuki Sushi with a friend the other night who recommended it because of the decent food and the free hot sake. Unfortunately, they changed the "free" part to only free when each person spends $20, which is a lot more sushi than either of us could eat, but that was alright because I wanted a beer anyways. The sushi was good and the food came out pretty fast, but as soon as we finished, our waitress actually asked us to leave because they had people waiting! This is New York, there are always people waiting, but I've never actually been asked to leave the table before either of us had finished our drinks before. Come on!

The atmosphere was very loud and crowded in their long, skinny restaurant and my friend and I had to yell to hear each other. I'll probably check out other options in the future, rather than return to Azuki Sushi.

For gregarious congregations en masse, willing and able to engage in raucous lollardy; Azuki hides -or attempts to hide- on the corner of Park and 19th, but gets ransacked by the crowds anyways, chiefly because of the uncanny stunt they've dared to continue in the midst of this economic "crisis" (generation Big Mac has never pondered about wartime food rationing stamps) ; buy $15.00 bucks worth of food (we'll go back to this definition in a sec) and you get two little bottles of free sake or wine. Result? An Stampede.

Incredibly, the overpopulation herded in the narrow dining corridor was allocated with mastery and skill. Orchestrated chaos allowed our party of  6 to fit in the table equivalent of a Volkswagen. Nestled together (but with no discomfort to speak of, I must say) we ordered the uber cheap and uber standard Japanish menu. Then we prompted our waiter (who looked and acted like a former Khmer Rouge agent) to bring us the free drinkies. Kampai, Salud, Gambei.

When the Japanish Bento Box came, I knew the real price of free sake; tasteless sashimi, jurassic ginger, and heck, even the rice wasn't sticky! At least they also bring you miso and salad with carrot sauce. At least.

To be fair, I should also point out that the special rolls that my friends ordered looked good, and according to them, tasted good as well. The dragon roll certainly looked interesting, and there were 20 + dishes to choose from other than my sorry Bentox Box. There will be a reviewckoning, oh yes there will.

So does that mean that I'll be back? Yes, possibly. Good location, tidy interiors, ruckus friendly, cheap, and two bottles of sake on the house. After all, you don't look a Khmer Rouge gift in the mouth.

For a random sushi outing, Azuki impressed more than depressed in my ever continuing adventures of seeking good, reasonable, fresh raw fish.  Having strolled by in person a few times only to discover how busy they were during the afternoon, I chanced using Seamless Web to bring something good to my table for lunch.  When delivery arrived less than an hour later (well packaged, no less) I began to annihilate every roll with reckless abandon.

For the rolls that I tried, among my favorite was the Dancing Eel (Eel, Avocado, Cucumber Cheese, Mayo, & Caviar).  It was smooth, almost squishy but no less delectable.  The Spider Roll was solid but the soft shell crab was a little too deep fried in this instance.  Must have favorites such as the Rainbow, Philadelphia, and Sheller Rock (avocado, crab meat, cream) rolls were about as good as advertised.

For the value of the aforementioned food, it was a reasonably priced meal to satisfy a sickening craving that I tend to get every so often.  Moreover, it was a good, scrumptious meal that appropriately stuffed my coworker and I silly.  To eat sushi is an expensive hobby, but I will probably not hesitate in trying their food again.

The wine is no longer "unlimited" (in case you're like me and this is the only reason you come here!).  First of all, if you're really truthful, you'll admit the wine they serve here for free is absolute crap.  It's really poor quality but the free flow made it a big + when out with friends.  Now the limit is 2 glasses.  That they got rid of that was a big disappointment upon entering one of my old favorites - but still, the sushi here is pretty good.  Not spectacular but I always just eat the Azuki Sashimi becuase the portion is large (I can never finish it!).  Can't speak for their roll concoctions.

I used to love this place so much but i'm giving it 2 stars because of (1) 2 glass limit on the "complimentary" wine (2) my friend and I came here on a Friday night and they told us there is a 1 hour LIMIT on our DINNER TIME.  I'm guessing it's b/c they had a reservation... but how can you tell a guest that they're gonna get booted from a table in 1 hour?  Definitely decreases the enjoyability of a meal when you're constantly checking your watch to make sure you can finish.  Bad business sense.

1 star for each glass of wine allowed under the new 2 glass maximum!  BOO!

    I have a weird habit of checking out a restaurant's restroom before ordering. I know - it's a quirk.
Azuki - clean facilities, soap in the dispenser and hand towels available. Yes, I'd eat raw fish here.
    And so I did.
Quick as a well oiled machine I was seated, had hot tea and soup in front of me within minutes of arriving. These folks know how to cater to a business lunch. You'll be in and out quickly if that's what you're looking for.
Mini sashimi with miso and tea for $13.
Presentation was a little much with the fair portion of tuna arriving on my plate in a martini glass with bananaa leaves and lime like a bouquet. The rest of the 7 pieces of fish on the plate were fresh though a little small. It said mini in the description so you get what you order.
Very pleasant staff, perfect place for lunch on your own.

So my friend threw a party here because of the free wine & sake when you spend more than $15.  Now, I dont really get this. Every review that mentions of the free sake/wine says that the supply is unlimited but we were told we could only get two refills each - so 3 complimentary drinks really. Now, were we ripped off or did Azuki Sushi recently have a change of rules?

The food's decent... if you get a bento box and share an appetizer with a friend, you could nicely hit the $15 target.

The waitresses/waiters were far from polite. From seating us to refilling our sakes, they were always barking at us.

The crowd is young and loud. Expect to shout to be heard.
The free drinks (even if I was only entitled 3) made the meal a pretty good deal!

A very generous friend took me and a few other friends out to Azuki, so I really shouldn't be complaining.  But as a word of caution:  this really was, beyond a reasonable doubt, the worst sushi I've ever eaten.  I have never  not finished a sushi roll in my life.  Truthfully, I got the Tempation Roll (alaskan crab, cucumber, crunch, tuna with garlic) and I couldn't get myself to finish it.  It was disgusting.

The atmosphere is fun, YUP-y , and loud, but the gimmick of free sake or white wine can only compensate for so much.  Save yourself the money and head next door to Sushi Samba or some other joint.  This place is not worth the free sake / wine.

    Short Version: Lucky find.

Long Version: We were wandering the streets one evening, wondering where we were going to eat. Also, I'm impressed with how many w's I was able to work into that past sentence. But to my point; we found this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised with the ambiance, staff and most importantly, the food. A wide ranging menu awaits you here, with staff that can answer any question you may have about any of it. Everything we tried tasted great, and when we finished, we were greeted with many tasty options for dessert. It's a hip place that would be great for a dinner date or just to treat someone you like. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely check'em out.

    Wow.

I put in an online order via seamless web, which I've used a lot before without problems.  In the "special instructions" box, I noted SPECIFICALLY for the delivery guy to call in advance so I could meet him in the lobby of my building -- delivery people aren't allowed up into the apartments, so we have to meet them downstairs.  Never has this been an issue before.

He calls me at 7:58, I'm downstairs at 8:51, and he's gone.  I ask another delivery guy if he saw an Azuki guy, and he says that the guy came and left in a matter of seconds.

I call Azuki, the woman sounds upset and calls my delivery guy.  He claims to have waited 10 minutes AFTER CALLNG ME -- which he absolutely did not.  She says he'll be back if I wait 5 more minutes (at this point, it's been about 35 minutes since I've ordered).

He comes back, I try to confront him -- he shoves the bag in my hand, and literally RUNS away.  I call Azuki back, asking for some compensation.  The manager says she'll "make sure I never have him for delivery again," but refuses to comp me anything.

(Two stars because the crunchy spicy tuna and the alaska were very tasty and well-priced, but not enough so to overcome the bullshit I put up with).

Would not order from here EVER again.

Shoulda yelped before showing up.  I got sashimi and while the salmon/tuna was pretty good, every other piece of fish was basically totally butchered.  I was not impressed and the portioning at a place that would ever butcher a piece of  fish wasn't impressive.

That said, if you like other japanese dishes and go at dinner, free sake is a pretty sweet deal.

Really great. Cute place, great atmosphere. Best thing....if you spend $15 per person, you get unlimited free white wine or hot sake. I mean, talk about awesome! What an excellent start to an evening. The sushi was fresh, the wait staff was right on it every time we needed a refill. It was a Friday night, so it got crowded as the night progressed. Totally worth it- skip Sushi Samba 2 doors down and go for the cheap sushi and free alcohol. Free! Alcohol! Woo!

    EDIT:::
So, last night I came here. Had reservations and they totally screwed me over for a group of 30 18-year-old matching outfit/blown-out hair spoiled idiot girls who looked like they came out of a stretch Hummer straight from Jersey. Like a Hummer clown car. Ick. I left. They are now missing a star. We shall see what happens in the future.

I came one afternoon after work, and had a a $15 sushi special dinner and a free glass of white wine. It was bad. The sushi was mediocre, and the wine was just bad in that cheap white wine way. The experience was so blah I didn't even want to review it.

However, I came with other Yelpistas on a Sunday evening, and we ordered a few appetizers and more than a few rolls and it was all delicious. Hmmmm. Learning from past mistakes (it is possible, even for me), I had the saki.

So, a one-star experience and a four or five-star experience. I'll say three for now; the next visit is the tie breaker.

    CALIFORNIAN REVIEW

My bf and I were on vacation and stumbled upon Azuki Sushi.

It's unfair to compare sushi from New York to sushi from Cali.  It's like comparing a 300 to a Rolls Royce!

The food wasn't bad and for being in New York the prices were very reasonable.  They gave us free sake all night long and that saved us a good $60 that would've been spent on 4 drinks at the local bar.

I liked the Andy Roll which was tuna and yellow tail with spicy wasabi mayo sauce.

Left the place with full, happy and drunk!

I first went to this place a couple years ago with eleven co-workers based on its reputation for free wine or sake with decent Japanese. We decided to have an "Armenian Feast" where we toasted each other and threw back shots instead of sipping on our sake. Three laps around the table later, well, there's not much more I can remember about that night, but let's just say it was historic. We were loud, had a blast, the staff was incredibly nice about it and the sight of the twelve of us the next morning was rather pathetic.

I've been back a couple times since and the staff seems to have tightened up on the Sake...you can just sit here drinking it all night and they try really hard to push other drinks and beer so that you can have Sake bombs. The food is still pretty good (love the Udon soup, Sushi rolls are adequate, but smaller than average) and the prices are quite reasonable. Oh yeah, and you'll still wake up the next day with a nasty headache (feeling it now).

Bottom line, if you're local and looking to get sushi take-out on a budget, this place is a fine choice. If you're under 25 and looking to get wasted before going out to party with like minded co-eds, there's no place better. For any other reason (looking for a quite place to eat with a friend, looking for excellent sushi) there are many other options.

Went here with some of my girlfriend's Nursing school pals to let loose after a series of exams for them.  I came straight from work and was tired and hungry... they on the other hand were three or four Sake bombs deep when I arrived.  The good news, the sake was free as we ordered $15/person worth of food.  The bad news, after our dinner we wanted to stay and keep drinking, but not only do they start to charge for the sake after the meal is done, they basically kicked us out by constant pressue and bringing a check after each round.  They claimed to have another table coming in, but come on, it was 10:00 and they had 8 people buying alcohol... I doub't they were going to get better customers than us.
the food was fine, I basically wolfed my Maki so memory is limited.   A fun place but don't go expecting to party there all night.
