This place is amazing for breakfast!

Breakfast torta comes with eggs, avocado and chorizo, fruits on the side; the relax fruit juice was 100% fruit juice that comes with blueberries and watermelon sweetened with apple juice. No sugar at all!

Service is great. Friendly, helpful workers!

Hehe, the four stars are for their service, the quaint atmosphere, and the tuna torta.

****BIOLA STUDENTS - you get 10% off!

We walked in to this nice little cafe in a plaza located on the cross street of Imperial and La Mirada, not particularly looking for anything specific. We were slightly confused on what to order but quickly decided. I ordered the Tuna Torta and the tuna was well seasoned and mixed with not too much mayo and whatever else they put in it. The bread was really delicious though, homemade? Maybe. Inside there was onion, avocado, lettuce, the meat of your choice, tomatoes and provolone cheese. YUM. Those are the ingredients that make a sandwich delicious. Heh. On the side, they also gave us a bowl of cut fruit.

Because we were there for the first time, the two waitresses/workers gave us some samples of their smoothie and dessert dish. Pretty good! If I went to Biola, maybe I would go every once in a while! Definitely worth it with the sandwiches though.

The ladies there were very sweet, that I MUST inform you of (: So very kind people. So next time, you're in the area... craving a sandwich/torta or a smoothie of some sort, check it out!

This place is awesome good food and great service.  This has become one of my favorite restaurants. Their fresh fruit and veggie juices are awesome and very reasonably priced $3.00 and $4.25  compared to $6.00 at whole foods. Their pancakes , tortas, liquados and freshly baked empanadas are delicious. . The owner is very friendly and makes you feel right at home. It's a good place to lounge if you want to read a book, catch up with a friend or work on your computer (they have wi-fi). I can't say enough great things about this place..Love it!!!

Let's just say I signed up for a Yelp account for this.
    - Freshly made everything, and the bread for tortas is also hand/homemade
    - Inexpensive and very affordable!
    - Talk to the owner and try NOT to like and appreciate her (good luck); she and her mom who cooks are rare, genuine people.
    - 5 min walk from Biola for you students
    - Wifi along with comfortable, relaxing, relatively quiet environment
    - Everyone else's reviews say the same thing, but I still felt the need to give my input. That's how good Azucar is.
I will go back until I have tried everything on the menu. Pictures coming soon..

Ate here today... again.  This little gem of an eatery would get 6 stars if possible.  So far I've tried the french toast and the Tuna salad Torta.  Both are great and come with a healthy side of fruit.  Beware... the large bowl of fruit is enough to feed two.  I usually just go with a coffee which is strong and you get a refill.  My girlfriend ordered the Mexican hot chocolate and its the shizzle.  Prices = half of what you'd pay at Panera and the service is excellent.  The ladies that work there are so nice and always great you with a smile and remember your face.  If you need a place to study in La Mirada... this is the place to go.  With free WiFi a great food you can't beat it.  I really hope this place starts attracting more business because it seems like yelpers are unanimous .... 5 stars

The Azucar cafe is an excellent choice for that great coffee, fresh fruit entrees, and delicious sandwiches.
I recently celebrated my wife's 40th birthday at the Azucar cafe after hours. The cafe accommodated a guest list of up to 30.
The entire family loved the food and the services provided by the owners.
The Azucar cafe provided their services hassle free, no hidden cost and with excellent accommodations.
The family has agreed to use the Azucar cafe on future celebrations.
I give the Azucar cafe 5 stars.

Azucar Cafe, wow 5 stars! I went in with high expectations.  Was not sure what to order because I read on Yelp that there were tortas.  Kind of disappointed, that there are only five types of tortas:  Bacon?, Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef, and Tuna.   Ordered Roast beef and Turkey.

I've had several awesome sandwiches before.  Cook's Tortas blows this place out of the water.  They have over 25 types of tortas to order from at any given time.  Having such a small menu available for tortas was a huge let down.  No carne asada?  NO CARNE ASADA?  Aghhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I guess they really don't have a regular kitchen for hot foods, but that means that the five sandwiches better be the best sandwiches.  The tortas/sandwiches were okay.  For the money I was expecting more.  There may have been 3-4 slices of lunch meat in each sandwich.   Bread had a nice fluffy texture, but there was hardly any fillings outside of a lot of lettuce.  The tomato was so skinny, I thought it was anorexic and the avocado was almost non existent!  Why put in the torta if it is less than a tablespoon.   If $4.99 is too cheap for a torta, then increase the price and don't skimp on fillings so that patrons will feel they are getting value for their money.  I should have went to Subway for a foot long for $5.

I love sandwiches, but these tortas seem to be a very Americanized torta, that has all the Mexican roots sucked out of it.  At the end of the day, sandwiches can make or break your place, especially if it is the only real food you are serving.  Look at Cook's, Phillipe's, or even the Hat's pastrami as prime sandwiches that can make a place.

To be fair, I did not have a liquado, a raspada, or bionico and these items may be awesome, but for lunch I will go somewhere else.   Azucar, has a lot of potential, but did not bring home the sweetness.

Quick Tip: It's on the far end of the small Stater Bros parking lot. It was a bit hard to find.

PROs: Agua Frescas are good. Staff is EXTREMELY kind. She also was very open to making things that weren't even on the menu! I got an Oreo Cookie Shake....was pretty good. :D Great study spot.

CONs: It can get a bit warm in there.... :/ Other than that, its perfect!

A gem in La Mirada. This quaint little cafe isn't that common in a world of corporate, high priced, cookie cutter chains. At Azucar cafe you get treated like family. This cafe has a nice feel to it. It's comfortable, clean, and a great place to relax or study. It's located on La Mirada blvd, it's major cross street being Imperial blvd. The owner, Letty, is such a nice person! She makes it a point to make sure you are happy with your order and she has no problem customizing items for you. Everything is made fresh to order here. They really emphasize freshness here.

As for what's on the menu, they have quite an array of delicious and delectable smoothies and juices. They also have breakfast and lunch menus which contain an assortment of tortas, sweet bread, tostadas, and spectacular salads.

As for treats they have bionicos, fruit cups, corn on the cob and cups of corn (both are served with mayo, cheese, and chili).

I definitely recommend this place. This is my first review on yelp. I never felt the need to go online and review a place, that's how good this place is.

I ordered a watermelon agua fresca, pina colada smoothie, bacon torta, and a spicy fruit cup. It was so delicious. I tried to save my watermelon drink till I got home, but I finished it before I did (I live 10 minutes away, that should tell you something!).

Great place, great owner/service, and the freshest fruits around. A great place to visit for refreshing treats and fresh meals. I wi definitely be coming back to try other items off the menu. Five stars.

High quality ingredients. Delicious and healthy food. Super nice owner. What more could you ask for :D? I have been here about 3 times already and am never disappointed. I usually get the turkey and bacon torta and sometimes the tinga (spicy chicken) tostada. Both are so good! The prices are reasonable, too. It's about $5 for a torta and fresh fruit on the side. The atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxing. It is also really clean inside. I recommend coming here!

I am embarrassed to say that we moved to La Mirada about 9 months ago and JUST came into this cafe for the first time. We literally walked here. Initially, we had wanted to try the crepe place, but it ended up shutting down before we had the opportunity to do so. This time, we decided to venture out and explore our own neighborhood, in hopes of finding a hidden jewel. Just as "FRIENDS" has Central Perk and "How I Met Your Mother" has McLarens, I think we've found our local go-to hangout spot!

Like any good Yelp-er, I did my research prior to stepping into this cafe, and decided on ordering a Bionico. I would say I'm somewhat cultured when it comes to Mexican food, but I was thinking, "what exactly IS a Bionico??" I decided the only way to find out was to try one. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sign inside that read "Corn on a Cob with mayo, parmesan, butter.." I remembered having one of these at my friend's baby shower and they were ah-maz-ing to say the least. The Hubby and I each ordered one of those, as well as  their highly-spoken of tortas. The owner, Letty (sp?), recommended the tuna, which is made fresh, not canned (already a plus in my mind). She was super friendly, patient and accommodating. This is the reason why I love coming to mom-n-pops as opposed to the typical cold & generic chains.

The corn was ready first and it was pretty tasty, not exactly the same style as the one we've tried from the corn vendor at the party, but still good. The torta came next  and the bread was lightly toasted and fluffy. The greens inside were fresh and the tuna was mixed with mayo and parsley. After taking a bite, I decided I would be back to try the other tortas. It also came with a small bowl of fresh fruit, the good kind (not just melons)!

My absolute favorite was the Bionico. Sliced strawberries, bananas, grapes, apples, cantaloupes, raisins, coconut flakes and fresh crunchy granola. They soak in a light sweet cream sauce that the owner said was made fresh from scratch. This would also make a fresh and delicious breakfast! I asked Letty what "Bionico" meant and she told me this fruit dessert comes from Guadalajara and the word literally means "energy." Sounds good enough to me! I am definitely coming back for the tortas & Bionicos. I would also like to try the coffee, since they use quality ingredients  (they also serve a fusion of loose leaf teas), I don't doubt that it would be anything less than awesome.

Finally my husband and I tried this place. It is fabulous. We just wanted coffee and did not want to go to Starbucks up the street. We were going to Stater Bros in the same mall. We had a mocha coffee which was the best we ever had. I looked at the pastry and Letti ( the pleasant owner) gave us a sample of the concha. It was delicious. We also sampled  a fruit treat called bionico. It was heaven.

I must admit that I was actually bitter when I first saw that the place next to Hong Kong Express had become "Azucar Cafe." I immediately thought "WHAT NO MORE CREPE PLACE? LE SIGH." It's bad enough that they closed Genki Living in Irvine and Crepes & Pasta in Cerritos, but now the crepe place down the street from me? fail.

However, after reading some positive reviews here on Yelp, I gave this place a shot and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. If you've been to the crepe place, the look of Azucar Cafe won't be anything new to you. It's still very vibrant with lots of color throughout the cafe.

The owner in one word is a total "sweetheart." She comes off as a very amiable and caring individual who makes an effort to have a conversation with each one of her customers. I'm happy to be considered a "regular" here now.

Now while the selling point of Azucar Cafe is its beverages, I come here for the food, particularly the tortas that are served with fresh fruit. You have your choice of Ham,Turkey,Roast Beef, or Tuna for the lunch torta. There is also a breakfast one that has egg and ham I believe. I usually get a Turkey or Roast Beef torta with everything which includes avocado slices at no extra charge. What really makes the tortas great here though is the home-made bread. The bread at Azucar Cafe is delicious to say the least. It's got a nice subtle buttery taste to it and it really goes well with all the other ingredients. Try to eat your tortas right away so the bread is as fresh as possible!

I also enjoy their freshly made tamales. While my mom prefers their pineapple ones, I prefer the Salsa and cheese. It's a delectably gooey bite with the melted cheese and salsa verde. If you're looking for a meatier tamale, they also have pork and chicken ones. I believe you can get a dozen for $15.

The juices are also very tasty. They always have two juices freshly prepared so I usually go with one of those two rather than ordering a customized drink. I have had their strawberry, horchata, and cataloupe juices. I've enjoyed each one of them, especially the cantaloupe juice because it reminds me of the Filipino drink Melon Juice.

A lunch torta + one of the daily prepared juices will run you about $7. Not bad considering you get a cup of fresh fruits with the torta.

Everything about Azucar Cafe's menu is FRESH. The food and juices are home-made and you don't have to worry about additives and unhealthy preservatives.

I really hope this place makes it because La Mirada needs a good mom and pop place like this. I only wish they added more meats to their torta menu like carne asada, carnitas, etc but I'm sure it's a business/financial decision.

To all my La Mirada Yelpers, please give this endearing place a chance!

I grew up in La Mirada and I've long since forgotten most of the businesses that have come and gone in this shopping center. Azúcar Café is the one I'll remember, though I hope it's here for a long time to come.
The biónicos lured me in. I spent the better part of a decade in Latin America, and the biónico, like the people and the language, was a little different everywhere I went. However the locals pepared it, it was always a variation on a theme of fruits and yogurt and granola. Azúcar's offering is up there among my favorites, with sweet mango and strawberries and assorted other fruits slathered in yogurt and topped with granola and raisins, the ideal breakfast for a warm summer morning. Also among the breakfast fare are French toast and pancakes and oatmeal.
Another edible I grew fond of south of the border was the torta. I've always been a fan of the sandwich in general and as always, the key to the Mexican version is the bread. Like me, Lettie was disappointed with the telera she found for sale around these parts, so Azúcar makes its own, fresh and hot and as good as I've had anywhere.
Of course, being a café, Azúcar offers coffee in an assortment of blends, as well as tea and a range of  juices, smoothies and raspados (snow cones) for when that morning warmth turns hot on you. My own choice is plain old black coffee, and Lettie and the others know that, keeping my cup full and my heart pumping through the dog day afternoons...

After visiting places like Starbucks and Panera Bread where the internet access is only 30 min. long this place offers a refreshing "unlimited" internet access.  I was looking for a place to get some work done online and one where there was plenty of outlets to plug my iphone and laptop in. This is a little Mexican cafe which I found out only after the lady behind the counter told me it that it was. huh? I guess I ignored the "Azucar" sign outside the business and the polo shirt she was wearing that read "Azucar".  I know what a "Torta" is and that is what I ordered-with bacon...very tasty and nicely proportioned. Just enough to get me through the morning. I also had mocha to go with the meal. I highly recommend this place.  It's not too busy at 10 am, less distractions than P.B. or Starbucks and plenty of room. 1 draw back is that they are only open to 3 pm.

This place is awesome. We have eaten here many times in the couple months that is has been open. We happened onto it by mistake, we went to Hong Kong Express next door (which is another review) and saw Azucar. So we popped in to see what was going on. We were talking with owner and she was explaining everything to us, then to my shock she hands each of us a small bionico, which is fruit and a sweet cream like treat with some granola on top. OMG this stuff is beyond AMAZING!!! I ate all of it, which is amazing in itself as some of the fruits were things that I do not normally eat, like cantaloupe.

Needless to say, we went back again and again, and hopefully they will survive, unlike all the previous businesses in that space. We never did make it to the crepe place that was there before.

I can't really say that I've had a meal here, but I've bought enough bionicos to know that this place is delicious.  They have the freshest fruits of apples, bananas, cantaloupes, pineapple, grapes, and strawberries all put in this sweet cream sauce, granola, raisins, and coconut.  Just the right amount of sweetness, deliciousness, and it is super filling! I can only get the regular size (~$5) but it is enough to make you full for a while! And hey, you kind of feel a bit healthy right? I mean, it IS fruit.  I have heard excellent things about their tortas, sandwiches, and agua frescas.  Love coming here for these bionicos, and the service is excellent too! The staff is more than willing to let you try the agua frescas, or recommend things based on your taste and/or cravings.  Everyone is super friendly and the cafe is a nice atmosphere to sit down and grab a bite during lunch.  Note: They are closed on Mondays.  You'll be very sad to have missed it so go another day!

If your Yelp or Around Me App lists Azucar Cafe, don't think twice.  Go!  Azucar has fresh and delicious food for both breakfast and lunch...and dessert (Bionicos)...and just for a great drink alternative to soda (Agua fresca, or mixed juice).
In order to try something local, I steered away from Panera to Azucar Cafe.  I wasn't nervous because of the excellent ratings from Yelp members, but I hoped they were right.  I was hosting 5 other professionals from out of town.  We all had different tortas, mixed juices, and bionicos.  EVERYONE ENJOYED EVERYTHING.  It was one of the best lunch experiences I've had via Yelp.

Better than Panera!!  I love the owner, Leti!  She makes you feel very comfortable and her homemade food is reasly great.

This place was a great surprise.  Delicious tortas.  great fresh fruit. Get it spicy.  nice touch with the Mexican style corn.  The owner was super friendly and helped make the atmosphere.

Finally, a business in this location that gets it.  With an emphasis on fresh food, Azucar offers an eclectic but not overcomplicated menu with tortas, pancakes, smoothies, ice cream, horchata, fresh juices of all sorts, and other fruity treats.  A great place to start the day, or a nice fresh and honestly tasty torta with avacado and a FRESH fruit bowl for lunch or a decent dinner.  You really should give the owners a shot, as this location blows the crepe place that used to be here out of the water.  I tried the turkey torta with Swiss cheese and a levanta muertos juice, which has beets, pineapple, orange, celery and other stuff.  Again, without sugar or other stuff added.  They really push the "fresh" thing, and it works for me.

Great healthy breakfast and lunch spot, very inexpensive and very tasty.  You have to try the breakfast tortas or the bionicos they are both excellent.  This is also a great study spot.  They have Wi-Fi, good seats, and best of all their coffee is superb.
