Review from Libby W.
They have restored themselves back to the good food, and service that they once were.
We had stopped going after we noticed a decline in overall cleanliness, food, and service.
So we finally went back and were pleased to see things back to normal.
The portions are large and good.
I love the Ramos Rita's and the big ones are now again back on the happy hour menu.
great place for family and friends. Thank you for bringing everything back to quality.Listed in: Hunters Creek - South Orlando

Review from Patrick L.
Miami, FL
Stopped here for a quick lunch after charging up the turnpike. We don't get much "authentic Mexican food" in Miami, so hey, why not.
I ordered black bean soup to start off with. It came in a huge bowl and had a thick consistency. I was reminded more of a heavier Cuban-style black bean soup than what I expected from a tangy, spicy Mexican version. Tasty, but not entirely what I was hoping for.
Chips and salsa were plentiful all around, with an interesting pico de gallo that had a deeper black bean-y savory note about it. Again, good, but not quite what I was wanting.
My main course was the chile verde, pork chunks in a green tomatillo sauce. Definitely a good large portion for $7.95 - there's value to be found here. An excellent cure for the travel-hungry belly, but I found this a bit bland; it didn't pack the punchy spicing I was expecting, nor was the pork all that tender.
Spacious place, large portions, and friendly service to be found, as well as serviceable food. I wouldn't expect vast wonderment or amazement, but it will do the job, at a low price. -

Orlando, FL
The servers are always nice. I gave it three stars because although their food is ok I don't think it is terrific. I usually go to another place for my Mexican meals which to me tastes more authentic and is less expensive. The atmosphere here is great. The place is clean and the decor is perfect but we want more AUTHENTIC!

Orlando, FL
About the only chain mexican restaurant that actually is authentic. Ask for the hot salsa (chipotle), eat some chips, knock back a margarita, then grab some carne asada (tacos autenticos!) and a tamale.
Walk out realizing that unless you're sitting in the church square in San Jose del Cabo eating food from a cooler on the back of the bicycle, you're not getting better mexican food at a great price with good service. -

I went there once, and I have to call it the most unmexican Mexican restaurant. It is seriously lacking in cuisine! The food has the appearance of Mexican dishes, but the flavor... Ehhh... I don't know... It's beyond words. I don't know how to describe it. Maybe different ingredients or it was not made with fuzzy wazzy love :( I really disliked this place, especially because they serve this imitation of food and charge high prices.
I just went there once about a year ago with my mother and little bro. No one really thought anything special of it. They might have improved since then, or they may have even had a bad day in that particular instance. -

I've never had a bad meal at this place! It's amazing and the portions are huge. Happy hour is awesome, the drinks are big and are not too expensive. Service is good and they have a mariachi band. If you can't make up your mind try one of the combos or their daily specials which usually come with a variety of different things. Great for large dinner parties, I had my birthday party there with 20+ people ( some were very picky and special ordered everything in their plate) and the waiters were terrific!

Yay for happy hour margaritas on a Saturday!!! Yay for 2 HUGE margaritas for only 8 bucks!!!! Yay for 2 HUGE margaritas that were really strong!!!!!!
OK... the margaritas were good, if you get my drift. A little on the sweet side for me, but I like stuff a little more sour than most.
Loved the corn tortilla chips brought to the table, as they are a little thicker than most served at restaurants. I like the bite that a thicker chip provides. The salsa brought to the table was chunky, a little spicy and delicious.
Got the queso dip to start. White cheese melted with a little bit of chopped spinach mixed in. Not quite my thing, but my dining partner ate it up.
I ordered the "limited time only Mexican street style tacos". 3 chicken tacos with some type of red, mild sauce. Refried beans, Mexican rice, 1 slice of avocado and pico de gallo served on the side. It was super tasty.
Dining companion ordered chicken fajita quesadilla. Looked good and it was eaten promptly up. Also served with refried beans, Mexican rice, and pico on the side. Wasn't really thrilled with the food to $ value. At 12 bucks, felt there should have been a little more stuffed into the quesadilla.
For the 2 of us, it came to $50 including tip. A little pricy for a Mexican joint, but it was delicious.
Perhaps go to enjoy the super good margaritas and an inexpensive appetizer or two, then have your designated driver cart you off into the sunset -
Review from Hector K.
I'm naturally not a big fan of mexican food but this place somehow worked it's way to my taste buds and managed to change the way i feel about mexican cuisine. This is the only place i find myself going back to whenever we're in the mood for mexican, and unfortunately i was recently reminded why i like this place and why i only come here to ease my craves for mexican. I made a mistake and went to this place called garibaldi in sand lake. Horrible mistake. I'll never be unfaithful to you again Azteca de Oro. See you in about a month :)

Review from Tim F.
Solid simple food that was tasty and satisfying and it is a good choice for your standard Mexican fare.
The family was looking for something that was going to hold us over for a 3 hour ride home and his place hit the spot. Tacos, burrito, chips and salsa were what we ordered. The variety of sauces that accompany the food was impressive, and they even had a brown mole sauce, which was good, but a little thin for my taste.
Service was also solid, with pretty good attention paid to us throughout the meal. Surprisingly, the only thing that was a little off was the salsa, which tasted a tad watery and a bit sour.
Despite the salsa and mole commentaries, if you are looking for decent Mexican food, I would still recommend. -

We have two favorite Mexican restaurants in Orlando and Azteca de Oro is one of them (Agave Azul is the other.)
To me, Mexican restaurants can be distinguished by what they offer that is out of the ordinary or prepared with such daring panache that it stands out from most of the other fare. Azteca de Oro offers up most of what you'd come to expect from a true Mexican restaurant (as opposed to Tex-Mex), but also does it with just a tad more accomplishment than most. What they do exceedingly well is the stuff that really stands out from the menu.
Things like Molcajete, which is a Mexican style stew of chicken or steak (or combo), sauteed in a spicy sauce with mushrooms, onions and tomatoes, topped with melted jack cheese, a grilled green onion and jalapeno pepper served with sliced avocado and tortillas. You can also get this fantastic dish in a seafood version with shrimp, scallops and whitefish. The awesome Mojo De Ajo comes with shrimp or scallops sauteed with mushrooms in butter and garlic. Simple and delicious!
It's the combinations that really cook, pardon the pun, such as the Chicken Milanesa (grilled chicken breast, breaded and topped with molcajete sauce), Pollo Fundido (rolled flour tortilla, filled with season chicken, smothered with jalapeno cream cheese and melted American cheese), Tres Amigos (chile colorado, verde and relleno served with salsa and cheese) and the Plato Mexicano which comes with taquito ranchero, carne asada, chile relleno and jalisco-style enchilada.
On this particular visit, after nibbling some of the chips and the wonderfully spicy tortilla chips, I had Pepe's Platter, which was chicken breast stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, pico de gallo and jack cheese topped with molcajete sauce (they really like that stuff here.) It also came with jalisco-style enchiladas filled with jack cheese and dipped in a mild California chile sauce and garnished with white onion and cotija cheese. Finally, Pepe's Papas rounded out my delectable dish and these were roasted potatoes that were seasoned with, among other things, cumin - which stood out and really gave a different feel to the standard Mexican presentation.
The meats come out especially tender and juicy while the portions are typically large enough to serve as breakfast the following morning or lunch. Atmosphere is colorful and, on this night, filled with the music of lady mariachis. Service is quick, attentive and friendly.
I'm sure there are other Mexican restaurants in town that may give Azteco do Oro a run for its money - but at this point in time, we're still working our way around the menu and haven't even bothered looking yet.Listed in: Best Mexican

We had another girls night and I tried the churros. The absolute best churros I have EVER eaten!!! They were warm, crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle. A friend ordered the fried ice cream and on the plate they added these amazing cinnamon sugar coated deep fried flour tortilla wedges. I'm going to ask if they can make me a plate of those next time and leave off the ice cream! I have organized another girls night and we're going back for appetizers and desserts only. I can't wait!!

Review from Hector P.
DeLand, FL
I went to Azteca's this past Saturday night. I did enjoy my experience while I was there. The environment was friendly and inviting. Our server was good and always paying attention to our need.
It was my grandmothers birthday so it was a big party but I would have to say we got our food pretty quickly. I would highly recommend the queso dip for the nachos. I believe it was only $5 and it was creamy, thick, and delicious. At first I wasn't going to order it because I saw it had spinach. Not a big fan of the green. Our server told us you don't even taste it and she was right on the money. I honestly couldn't get enough of it. My meal was a chimichanga with ground beef and white rice and a taco(est. $12) I decided that because the taco was smaller than the chimi that it had to go. Next I decided that I could no longer fight off the temptation of the chimichanga so it became my next victim. It was delicious and filling. I could not even finish my plate of white rice. Although, that could partially be because my stomach was filled with nachos, sauce, and queso dip.
They also had an all female mariachi band playing while I was there. I could not believe the amount of "happy birthday"'s that I head that day. I would recommend that you get a reservation if you are going to go on a Saturday night because it is quite busy. Overall I had a great time and will
definitely be going back sometime.
The only problem with Azteca was that, in my opinion, the menu size. It was about 18-24 inches tall and had about 8 pages. Way too big for me! I found it to be bulky and annoying. -
Review from Kelly H.
Orlando, FL
Atmosphere is colorful but the food is extremely mediocre and overpriced. My chimichanga was mushy and watery.
The service is okay but our table was never given silverware, even after we got our food. We attempted to flag down several servers and by the time we did our food was cold.
I will probably not eat here again. Very disappointed. -

Every time I've gone, the first rule is to always get their cheese queso: It's rich, thick, white Mexican cheese that (with a sprinkle of their home made salsa) will leave your eyes rolled in the back of your head with every chip-full.
Second, don't ever expect to leave there empty handed, their portion sizes are MASSIVE in comparison to other surrounding options. Everything from grilled chicken, drenched in authentic mole sauce, to jumbo shrimp fajitas that will leave you looking for the table underneath the huge plates your eating it all off of!
The place is rather large, compared to other Mexican restaurants around the area, with nightly appearances by an all-seniorita mariachi band, strutting along from table to table. Which can make it rather loud at times, but great for parties or large families. Especially with all the "taste testing" that will be going on.
The prices vary, but I've yet to try anything that was not worth virtually every penny. This is a big Mexican place, with big Mexican food, with big Mexican flavor. So make sure you go there with a BIG Mexican appetite and, preferably, a big group of friends! -

Orlando, FL
I'm always in search of a good Mexican restaurant and Azteca de Oro is pretty good. Not great, just pretty good. The menu is extensive and the prices for lunch are decent but some of the prices on the dinner menu are a bit steep. Portions are pretty large and the food overall was good and served piping hot. Service was mostly quick and efficient and the servers are glad to help explain unfamiliar menu items. Dinner for 4 cost almost $80 (no alcohol) which is a bit pricy for a casual Mexican place. I'd recommend this place more for lunch rather than dinner just because of the prices.

We love this restaurant!
The service is top notch (your drink is never allowed to get 1/2 empty!) and your chips and salsa are replenished before you know it, too! probably have been here 10+ times in the last year.
My fave dish so far was simple, but soo flavorful: their chicken soup! -

Good food, good service and gotta love the marriachi singers. The lead singer is one of the best power voices that I have heard in a long time. She really should be picked up and promoted internationally. Now that they are on Open Table I can get points to boot...

I give this place an OK. I'm not sure if we went there the wrong date at the wrong time, but service was not the best and way tooo pricy! I went with my boyfriend we had 2 beers each and an entree came out to $70. Food was delicious, but sure didn't feel like I consumed all that money there. No dessert/coffee was offered. Good food and little pricy!

Altamonte Springs, FL
I've only been to this location twice. I used to be an almost nightly visitor to one in Washington State when I lived there.
The two times I have been to this one, the food has reminded me of what I miss from rainy Seattle.
Good service and excellent "chicken carnitas". I will go back again as soon as I can. -
Review from Clara S.
I have been here at least 5 times and have always had a very enjoyable meal. The ambiance is fun with a mostly woman's mariachi band that strolls around the restaurant. The food is always hearty and plentiful. We had many other Mexican places to choose from this evening and everyone agreed that this one was the place to go to!! We'll be back,

Oh my yum!!! I grew up in Texas. I lived in Cali for 5 yrs. And I might be the child of Mexican food snobs (note: they grew up in El Paso and Del Rio, TX)..... And Azteca was fabulosa. The ranchero beans and margarita on the rocks, guacamole and chips... Plus the all female Mariachi band.... Awesome. A must eat at in Orlando when visiting Disney and need an escape from park and hotel food.

Great food. Although is not 100% authentic Mexican restaurant, the flavors are spot on. The food is very tasty, portions are huge, so you would most likely take some home. Great deals on happy hour, and the Margarita's are tasty. Service is pretty good. Go and have the molcajete, very delicious!!!. I would recommend this restaurant!

I'll start by saying that this review is a few months old, and I just noticed a few poor reviews. I really enjoyed Azteca D' Oro. The portions are huged for the price and quite tasty. We had an excellent waitress (Viviana) who attended to all our needs and was quite knowledgable. The one thing I diod not care was the massive amounts of cheese used in the dishes. I would suggest asking for light cheese.

My date and I had preordered for pickup but since we were not familiar with the Orlando area, we got lost and were extremely late. For this reason we decided to "eat-in" instead. They were nice enough to take our intial order and replaced it with a fresh cooked meal. The atmosphere was nice and the hostess was really cute :-) Also, the cook came out to check on each and every table to make sure that everybody's meal was satisfactory. Very impressive!! My date and I got the Shrimp Fajitas and Peach Tea. I must say that "Peach Tea" that I got there is by far the best flavored tea I have ever had anywhere! It was similar to orange juice in consistency I.E. It had pulp in it and was well flavored throughout the entire drink. The fajitas were not "sizzling hot" as you may see if some places but overall was good and came standard with all of the "fixins" I.E. Sour cream, guac, shredded cheese, salsa, etc. Overall a good experience although a bit pricey for what we got (all things considered)....I would definetly recommend....I'd give it a "B".
