Burrrrrrrrrritos, delivered!

Yum.

Mexican delivery is one of life's simple pleasures, like a white chocolate mocha triple shot latte or a cab ride home from work instead of taking the train.

Azteca isn't the bee's knees, but it's fast, dependable and your food always arrives perfectly intact, and hot. $10 minimum for delivery, and the Azteca de Oro burrito is a step above many of the taqueria burritos in my 'hood. And, it comes fully loaded with your choice of meat, jack and cheddar cheese, black beans, rice, guacamole, sour cream and Pico de Gallo. For $7.49? Not bad.

The horchata is excellent though I've never met a horchata I didn't like. But I'd pass on the crinkle fries... then again, subpar fries from a Mexican joint? Expected.

So, Foodler is my boyfriend this week...apparently, since I refused to go out in this weather and/or cook. Or buy groceries.

(Ok, that's a winner for most pathetic statment EVER, but moving on...)

:::::ahem::::::

Starting over.

Mexican delivery can be quite tricky, indeed. I mean, those five ingredients (cheese, tortilla, avocado, tomato, meat) can congeal into some horrific substances in the drive over, for real.

El Ranchito? eh. OK, at 4am. The fact that deliver 22 hours a day is impressive though...

So Azteca pops up, and only has a $10 minimum. Hoooooooray, I can avoid the $40 bill I rang up at Cafe Orchid the other night. (Born of sheer stubbornness and my inability to forgo falafel on the particular night). Regardless, ok...$10 let's do this.

Surprisingly hard, actually. This stuff is cheap!

$7 Azteca de Oro Burrito with Carnitas. (whole wheat tortilla!)
Chips & Guac & Salsas: $5
Side of beans: $2.

Nice!

After perusing the menu a bit...it's kind of random (um, they have french fries!?) but also kind of...awesome. Like, you can order burrito bowls (for when I feel like going on a carb protest), or big Fiesta salads (for when I feel the need for vegetables) and sides of steamed veggies, brocolli, etc. Not a bad selection...especially if you are trying to count calories AND get delivery food, which usually tends to be craptastic, calorie-wise.

All said and done and a $3 tip for the delivery gals (a mom and her cute little daughter), it was around $16 or so.

Bueno. I like. Burritos that show up at my house hot, lovely.

Foodler is back in my good graces.

Stopped in here before a show at the Metro with our own beer and was immediately served spicy salsa and chips.  The 3 taco plate included my favorites: carnitas and shrimp, and one more I can't recall but wolfed down in seconds for sure.  The shrimp tacos are really good.  The burritos are fresh.  They are not gigantic, but definitely enough.
I recommend this place to anyone looking for a deal and tasty Mexican fare---will be back.
BYOB. Delivery.

Awesome food! They never disappoint and I've been ordering since they opened (2 years ago!) The owners/workers are very friendly and the restaurant is very clean. Everything is very tasty and they also offer healthy menu items to choose from!

I have only ordered from here, never been to the restaurant, but the delivery is fantastic.  I have to say that the fish tacos are incredible.  The fish is fried, but it's topped with pickled red onions, which make the tacos really crisp and refreshing.  Mmm.  I just love them.  The tres leches cake is really good too.  And unlike some Mexican places, there are a lot of good vegetarian options.  My husband, however, is not a fan of the beef there.  Too chewy, and a bit too much gristle.

Mmm, carnitas.  Azteca is definitely a step above the average burrito house.  It's exceptionally clean, and the freshness of the ingredients come through brilliantly.  Their guacamole is top notch stuff, I just wish more chips came with the order.  The pico de gallo that came with my carnitas tacos, was really refreshing.  Can I say the flavors danced on my tongue? They're open late, and the food is good.

My veggie burrito (got a spinach tortilla) was awesome and loaded with delicious grilled veggies. My boyfriend's enchiladas were okay and carnitas torta (yes, he eats that much!)  was pretty good.

Based on the food, we would have given four stars. Mine especially seemed pretty healthy for Mexican food, it wasn't greasy at all- some other places seem to make even veggie burritos super greasy and gross.

However, our food arrived ICE COLD. Not even a hint of warmth: colder than room temperature. Also, boyfriend's food had been seriously jostled around like someone had been swinging the bag in the air or something!

Food was four stars (not greasy, pretty tasty and overall much better than other Mexican delivery options around here)  but service drops it down to three. Hopefully this was just a one-off, and we'll probably order again (and of course update if things improve).

I give stars for value delivered.  Value, meaning, for the money spent, the relative worth of what I bought.  By that metric, I'd say, Azteca de Oro hit a home run with us.  Wonderfully fresh,  flavorful food, ordering was a breeze online, delivered really fast, and when we did call with a question (first time customers), the gent that answered the phone was exceedingly amiable, did a great job on answering our couple of questions. Not much more to say, for us - our new find for when we've got the joneses to obliterate the pang.

NACHOS= AMAZING!  So delicious.  Chicken nachos, carne asada nachos, chorizo nachos... all so tasty.  I have made many friends try these, and they all love them.  If I could eat nachos every day, I would definitely choose these nachos.

Everything is made fresh upon ordering, so you sometimes have to wait a little bit.

The tacos are very good, too.  And, when you dine in, they bring chips and salsa to start, and then three other types of salsa with your meal.

FRIED ICE CREAM! Huge portion. Four of us were full after lunch so we only ordered on to try it.  So Good.

They have changed the menu a couple times since last summer, and I just found out they are adding more to the menu.  A couple new sandwiches and some other variations of enchiladas.

AND they deliver!

By the way, I mostly eat lunch or dinner here (so it is NOT a place that is only good at 2 am).

¡Que Delicioso!

I've tried Azteca three times now. While I have had good food from here, I have also had horrible food from here.

Normally, I get the chili rellenos. First time, they were excellent. Second time, passable. Third time, tough as leather.  Burnt. Cold. Yecch..

I have had tortas here as well. Once good, once OK.

All in all I would rate them inconsistent. I won't eat from here again.

El Bueno: The grilled veggie burrito I ordered was delicious (a little messy, but whatever, I'm a little messy).  Delivery was free and there was no additional charge!  Once more: Delivery was FREE and there No Additional Charge!!!!!!

El Malo: My girlfriend's taco shell salad was lacking in the taco shell department.  In other words, there was no taco shell.  The chips that came with my burrito were not great.

El Feo:  Worst salsa ever.

I was scouring the web for mexican delivery, specifically nachos, and did the ol' http://delivery.com and yelp crosscheck and azteca won out.

good call michelle m! the nachos were yum yum yummmmy! friend got the grilled chicken burrito in whole wheat which was also quite tasty. yet different than expected....some cilantro and "health" taste in there. but definitely BETTER than chipotle.

the horchata was also mmmmmm good. and came in a ginormous plastic coke cup (think fast food super size) which was a bonus because i'm somehow* out of cups. and we appreciated the bonus little bag o chips and salsa sides.

free delivery, super nice driver, took around an hour or so. worth the funds.

*they may or may not have broken/been thrown away because i couldn't be bothered to wash them

I ordered from Foodler and picked this place because they offered a 25% coupon.  I had a three-pepper burrito with chicken, chips and salsa, and the flan.  With the coupon and tip, it came to under $15, and they delivered in less than 45 minutes.
The food was awesome--the burrito was perfectly seasoned, the chicken was tender, and the veggies were still slightly crisp.  The spinach tortilla was fresh, too.  I had guacamole with it, and it was also fresh and tasty.  The salsa was heavy on the cilantro and pretty spicy, but still great.
Up until this point, I was giving the restaurant a solid four stars.  And then I tried the flan.  First of all, it's clearly homemade--not some store-bought, still-shaped-like-the-ridged-plastic-container stuff.  This is rich, decadent, creamy-but-firm...absolutely fabulous.  It came with a little container of strawberry sauce, but don't you dare let that fruity sludge touch the flan!  The flan is perfect as is, and catapults the restaurant into 5-star status.

I was totally shocked to see so many 3 star reviews. After having Azteca's shrimp tacos and chips and salsa, I swore I'd never go anywhere else for a taco fix. And I haven't. I swear they have the freshest tasting and best spiced food. I'm getting hungry for it right now.

I'm going to be perfectly honest. The only time I've ever eaten here was after the Cubs game yesterday... a bachlorette party Cubs game. Needless to say, we were a bit drunk and craving tacos. This was the first place we saw, and were NOT disappointed. We were given guac on the house, which was chunky and flavorful. I ordered the Baja Fish Burrito bowl. Excellent! The tilapia was battered and cooked crispy. The cole slaw was light and fresh, and had great flavors. I definitely would come back here... sober...

I don't want to start my review by talking trash but considering the reviews that precede mine I would suggest never, ever taking their review advice on anything.  If you are going to judge a Mexican place by their burritos, you clearly have very little knowledge about Mexican food.

This place is the jam.  They have an excellent authentic Mexican menu selection.  Their meats are fresh and cooked to order.  It is refreshing to go in some place and not see 15 lbs of carne asada sitting on the flat grill losing flavor by the second waiting for me to order it.  Everything is fresh, including the great tortillas.  The staff is very friendly and nice.  It is also clean, which is something I think is important when getting food from there.  Not sure what the other reviewer was talking about they have both red and verde fresh salsa, you just have to ask, they are both excellent too.  I can always use them spicier but they are great just the same.  They also have a great third salsa the owner brought out from his secret stash on Saturday evening.

I usually get the quesadillas, which are essentially tacos with melted cheese.  The carne is great, just had the al pastor which is also excellent.  Don't eat burritos, but they looked pretty good to me.  Definitely not Chipole, so don't get your hopes up if that is your style.

Never been to the other place on Addison and considering the description of it being dirty don't think I ever will.  I try not to eat things that are made under the El track.

If you are into good, fresh Mexican food you are going to enjoy this place.  Especially on the late night tip.  Also, it's BYOB, so it a nice place to hit before a Cubs game and get some grub and drink a bit without fear of an open container ticket.

I came here for a late night bite, even though I heard some bad reviews. My boyfriend loved the green, super hot salsa but I did not. I prefer it a little milder. I had a two taco (steak) meal that came with refried beans and rice and my boyfriend had the three taco meal. The waitress brought our food out and it was suprisingly fresh for a 1am meal! The food was good, but lacked flavor. Maybe its bland because its in a yuppie neighborhood. I would come back though.

Oh its also BYOB and they deliver!

This is definitely not my favorite place to get a Mexican meal, but definitely where I go to get flan or fried ice cream. I'm used to making my own fried ice cream treats but since moving to Chicago (away from my lovely Mexican mother) I don't have the equipment or the drive to make my own. I dislike the strawberry ice cream sometimes and just long for vanilla but it's worth it having my fried ice cream tradition back.
I do not recommend the soft tacos. They lack taste in so many ways. The chicken doesn't have much flavor, nor does the steak. The soft tortilla is, for lack of better words, just weird tasting. I can't put my finger on it but it just doesn't taste right. The taco gets slightly better if you add salsa to it but I'm bitter and stubborn about adding more to my taco. In my head a taco should consist of meet lettuce sour cream and cheese, nothing more.
I recommend the nachos. I love their nachos. They must put something in the chips because normally when I get nachos the chips get soggy after sitting in the air for a while, but the chips stay as crispy and as crunchy as ever.
I'll keep going back for the desserts and for the nachos!

A sign reads in the front door "Homemade Horchata" already that was a PIUS. Since most the horchata I've had in the city taste like the powdered crap. But what really won me over was reading the menu and seeing under desserts "Aztec fried ice cream". Could this be true? I finally found a mexican spot, who serves deep fried ice cream???? I was in denial for the moment until I made my friend ask, if they really had some and she said YES! So of course that is what I ordered. Im going to go on a rant about this because I've been on a search for deep fried ice cream for the past 10 years. Acapulco serves it but thats a chain and it is whatever. Mind you I am able to get fried tempura ice cream at Japanese and Thai restaurants, but it is not the same as the mexican kind. You know the ball of ice cream covered with corn flakes or graham crackers with a hint of coconut deep fried and served with cinnamon sugar goodness. I was watching the guy prepare it and was like wow this is the real deal. The waitress brought it over and it looked pretty. The fried ball of ice cream was in a cinnamon/sugar fried tostada bowl covered in whip cream, strawberry and chocolate syrup and a cherry on top. To my surprise when I took a bite, it was not vanilla ice cream, it was STRAWBERRY??? Different, but It was good. So I sat there and enjoyed my $4.95 dessert while everyone else was eating tacos. It wasn't the best fried ice cream, but it was satisfying.

My two friends who I went with ordered tacos. Shrimp, steak and pastor. they said the shrimp was descent, pastor was good, steak was no bueno. NO FLAVOR. So don't get the steak, I've heard it more than once.

Anyways I noticed this is the spot all the drunk people come to after hitting up the bars on that street, so I felt a little out of place considering I was not drunk. At the same time it's more entertaining that way.

I'd only come back here if i was in the area and craving some fried ice cream. Actually I think I'm going to make it tradition every time I'm at the Metro to stop by in there.

New taqueria spot across from the Metro and next to Wrigley Field. The place has better surroundings than the stand under the Addison stop, However the food is lacking in the salsa department (mexican hot sauce bottles tableside - not the freshly made green or red salsa served at other places). Pickled veggies look like they've been sitting out in the open for awhile.

On the plus, they do have barbacoa, al pastor, or lengua options served for your tacos, tortas, or burritos. I'll admit, I'll probably go back before entering the ballpark for a quick, cheap meal.

I went in here to order some take out.  It was a very nice place, very clean.  My only complaint was no a/c on a hot summer day.  I was sitting there pouring sweat waiting for my food.  I walked there and of course, as another reviewer mentioned, you're concerned that the food will congeal into a hot mess.  But it did not.  I was very happy.  I ordered the ground beef tacos with a hard shell and I was disappointed to see that he put them in soft shells.  But they were delicious in spite of that.  I also got the steak torta for later which was served with fries (??)  but the fries were crispy and delicious and the torta was tasty and had lots of avocado and creamy pepper jack cheese.  I definitely want to go back and dine in and try their chips, salsa and guac because to me, the sign of a good mexican place is their chips, salsa and quac.  Definitely a great place for a mexican craving or if you're drunk and starving after a Cubs game.

Wrigleyville's newest Mexican place can definitely satisfy late-night-drunken-mexican-food-cravings, but it's far from the best. The prices are decent, service is relatively quick, and it's a welcome alternative to the hotdogs, burgers, pizza and sports bars that the rest of North Clark has to offer.
