I have been going here for seven years. Usually, I go for one service at a time Pedicure, a massage, a facial, photo facial or a haircut. But on my birthday... I go for a full day of papering. I always find the staff to be accommodating, courteous and friendly.
I spent my birthday there last week for a Deep Pore Facial, brow/lip waxing, the Foot Facial Pedicure, Massage and haircut. With the exception of the wax and haircut... the other services were 90 minute ones.
I tried their new esthetician - Rachel. She was professional, enjoyed her work, and pleasant. I did have a reaction to an Aloe calming lotion, which I spoke up immediately and she promptly removed, cooled my face and found something that was more gentle for my skin.
I also tried out Virginia for my massage. Virginia works ad hoc at Aziz - but you can request her if you give them notice. Hands down.... the best massage I have had there. A combination of the dreamy Swedish and some deep tissue work on my neck and back, I left a pile of Jello.
The pedicure - well, what can I say. The #1 reason I keep coming back is because of their nail tech - Gina. She is thorough, loves what she does, conversational, and takes pride in her work. Her zest and laugh are infectious. It was her day off and she came in because I requested her.
The haircut. Sarah was fantastic. Second time I have had her cut my hair and she does not disappoint. Last cut - I was getting compliments still 6 weeks after. She is sweet, professional and listens to what you want and makes good suggestions.
At the end of the day, they offered to do my makeup, free of charge. Aimee did a great job with the mineral makeup - giving me a natural look that could go into evening.
It is not the Ritz, but they do a great job catering to the customer, making them feel at home and a bit like cheers (where everybody knows your name). The front desk people were prompt and courteous and the manager even checked on me to fill my champagne glass. And, they were so sweet, being my birthday and a repeat customer, they gave me a thoughtful gift.
Cost of the day for all the services and the powder foundation I purchased was under $400 plus tip. Cost saving tip - during the holidays - Costco carries Spa Finders Gift certificates at 20% off and they accept them at Aziz. I used those to pay for the day. I was pampered and ready for a night on the town to celebrate my birthday.
I would have given it 5 stars except for the facial reaction to the Aloe calming lotion. All other services were 5 star.
Was a disgusting mess after the mudslide that was Austin City Limits day 3. My friend A and I decided that it would be nice if we could leave the cleanliness of our feet in the hands of another, so we walked all around downtown trying to find a spa. Eventually, my Poynt Blackberry app led us to AZIZ and I couldn't have been happier.
AZIZ is hidden all the way over at 7th and West Ave, which was nice because we had no problem as walk-ins for a couple of pedis. Upon arrival, we were provided with beverages -- a choice of water, sodas and wine -- the white wine was very refreshing after a day of walking around downtown.
Misty, our pedi gal, was a complete treasure! She was very friendly, super talkative and did an amazing job on my feet. She had the utmost concern for my comfort the entire time I was there and provided me with an overall fantastic experience. Gold polish, clean and soothed feet, complimentary wine and a relaxing atmosphere all very reasonably priced -- will absolutely return.
They also offer manis, massages, hair cuts/styling, Botox and much more. One stop shop for all your vanity needs.
It can be easy to forget there's more to downtown nail services than just Milk & Honey. I was googling around trying to find a place on short notice, near work, that could make my shiny-silver-foil-stars-nail fantasy come true. While the aesthetics are so-so, and presentation could be a little nicer... the service was exceptional. Gina was affable, talkative (in the good way), engaging, and overall just fun. It's nice to interact with a real person with real personality.
The price was stellar, especially for downtown. The service was spot-on, and Gina was filled with good advice to keep my 20 new silver digits sparkling. I'd love to see Aziz enhance the ambiance, but for the service-location-and-price it's perfect.
My boyfriend always has received about 10 okay, $30 hair cuts from a woman who works here. He came home and asked me how his hair looked. I guess the woman at the salon didn't show him the back of his head... because it was awful. One side of the back had been cut at an angle and the other side was cut square like Frankenstein. I cannot believe that she would not show him this and apologize to him before he left. I will not be visiting Aziz any more either. who knows.. I could end up with a splotch of hair color on the top of my head and my stylist may think it would be easier to not tell me about it. F that.
I've surprised to see all the bad reviews for the spa services at Aziz but I've only gone for haircuts. I have never been so happy with my haircuts and its all due to the genius that is Raine. She knows exactly how to cut my hair. Its thick and coarse, providing many problems for other stylists.
Raine can do edgy or conservative, short or long or basically any style that I've walked in wanting, and I've tried them all. I wish I still lived in Austin but I'm considering waiting to get a haircut until I make a visit back.
The only reason why I did not give all five stars is that she's in high demand and I've sometimes had to wait close to a week to get an appointment. But her work is well worth the wait.
I have been going to Aziz for a few years. I found them when I complemented a friend on her great cut and color. She said Ron Shadman did it and he had been her stylist for years. So I went to see Ron and I was so amazed by what he did I keep going back. He can cut straight hair AND curly hair. This is no simple feat, he is a an absolute master at color too. I won't let anyone else cut my hair after having Ron. He also gives the most amazing shampoo and head massage, I feel like a million bucks when I walk out of Aziz. They are not cheap, but they are worth every penny!!
The salon also does mani/pedis, facials and the usual salon stuff. Check them out you will be glad you did.
This is a review about Aziz Salons in general and customer service. I received a gift certificate for Aziz, but having experienced a lot of personal & family hardships, I misplaced it. Well, I found it, called Aziz to see if there were any time limitations, and there is apparently a 1 year expiration---no exceptions! This is a big disappointment, because had that been stated on the certificate itself as a warning, I would have made it a point to find a way to get down to one of there locations to use. So, now my poor friends that were doing a good gesture to give me a gift in my stressful times are out $50 and Aziz is $50 richer having done nothing at all for either myself or my friends. Word of caution, if you give a certificate from this salon, make sure you let the person know that it expires! I guess I will never know what there services are like since I will not be visiting a place that is not customer oriented and willing to honor a gift certificate that has not time limitation printed on it.
I'm just going to come right out and say it. White girls can't do nails. I've long suspected that to be true but my experience at Aziz on Saturday confirmed it. I went there as part of a bridal party the morning of the wedding I was in. 5 of us had "express mani/pedi" and 2 has the complete mani/pedi. I can really only speak for my personal experience but I will say that nobody in our party was too impressed.
The girl who did my nails was terrible! No personality or skill. I am sorry, maybe it was an off day but being in customer service, I know that the customer doesn't care if you are having an "off day". After she finished with my feet and hands, all of the polish had bubbled and needed to be re-done. She had the nerve to act like it was somehow my fault and said "I should be glad she has some free time to fix it". Excuse me? THEN after she repainted my toes I realized that she had slapped on SO MUCH polish that it had basically dripped off of my toes. I have never ever experienced that and I have had MANY (far less expensive) pedicures in my life. After having a different girl fix it the 3rd time, it was done right.
The salon itself was nice. The decor was very classy and I would even call it relaxing. The reception staff and perhaps the owner (?) were all very accomodating. Actually, most everyone there was super sweet .I must have just gotten a very bad apple.
These 4 stars go one place and one place only... to my facialist Ashley. She was kind, informative and I can tell genuinely interested in finding out what is best for my skin.
I have been to Aziz several times in the last couple of years. I have had a few good visits, and some very bad ones. Overall the front desk people are helpful and attentive and the prices are decent (although they seem to be inconsistent), but I never truly loved my experience until now.
Thank you Ashley! you're the best :)
Not much of a fan. My sweet husband bought me a gift certificate for Valentine's Day and I used it on a massage. The massage was the most stress-inducing experience--far from relaxing (the woman left bruises on the base of my skull that were sore for days) and the ambiance left a lot to be desired. The overpowering old lady rose-scented candle in the holding zone? Not a great aromatic direction to go, unless you're trying to lure said old ladies...which I guess could be your thing, judging by the decor, but I'm hoping that at 41 I don't qualify as such. Yet.
I didn't feel relaxed before, during, or after, try as I might to get into it. I'd skip this place and hit someplace with a little more style and a little more Zen.
Sigh.
Ladies, I tried. I really did. Twice. This just isn't a good spa.
I got 2 hydrafacials in a little over 1 month.
The first time I was burned with the micro dermabrasion and 2 paltry passes with the hydrafacial equipment.
The second, an hour long treatment was completed in 30 minutes with one single, solitary pass of the hydrafacial machine (the whole reason I was there). In Vegas at the MGM Grande you receive 4 passes!
But I digress...a weak 30 second hand massage and a glob of SPF and I was on my way...this was by far the worst facial service I have received in Austin yet.
Oh and those unnatural, nauseating candles Aziz burns and sells should go far far away.
Took me three tries just to get someone to help me...big frustration when stylists are just sitting around and no one wants to work.
Finally got a new girl, and she couldn't see me until 45 minutes after my appointment time, as the manager guy (?) kept trying to push wine my way, and was too stubborn to change my mood.
Then got a really mall-boy kind of haircut, was charged the full rate despite the wait, and had to go to Avant on 4th and Colorado to have it fixed a week later...with the new stylist telling me, "I don't know what that girl was thinking when she cut your hair."
One long and pricey haircut!
So I really like Aziz.
I promise not to put to many vowels in this review, but I will say this: I got my best facial ever here. I get facials a couple times a year, and I've been to other spas, private aestheticians, and dermatologists, and my skin looked its very best for a good week after I had a facial with Christine. So I've gone back- its the mega, medi or something facial.
Never had my hair done or a massage here, so I can only speak to the facials. The one thing I did not like was that parking was very limited and I wasn't too thrilled with 'tude from the bimbo counter gals. Next time I come in in my jeans and my grubby t-shirt, ladies, you can expect me to spend some dough, and you had better treat me like I like to be treated.
I was really disappointed. I paid way too much for a hydrafacial, and had to tell the person doing it that it included a peel. She then had to leave for 10 minutes to confirm I was right, after we were already about 10 minutes late getting started. Was done in less than an hour, didn't feel like the girl had any clue about what she was doing - it was just a huge waste of money and I won't go back.
This is really a review about my stylist, since the salon itself is nothing to write home about.
I'll start with the salon, it desparately needs some interior updating. Fake flowers, dark, bad faux painting - I think they were trying to go for some Italian/Greek thing. It doesn't work.
But, my stylist Valerie Martin is fantastic. She is amazing with her cuts. I'm sort of a cheap haircut sell-out, and fortunately Valerie has now saved me twice after straying from her expertise. Her cuts are $60 (expensive, but the norm for Austin), but she's worth it. Her cuts are so good, that I can go 8 weeks before next cut. Don't be put off by her Barbie doll looks, she knows what she's doing.
They really should take off the "Day Spa" part of their name. This is NOT a day spa - not by a LOOOOONG stretch. This is a hair salon that does manicures and pedicures (poorly I might add).
On a recommendation from a local friend I went there to prep for a wedding. My experiences are listed below:
1) the "spa" mani-pedi was very expensive considering that the pedi took all of 20 minutes and the manicure was about 15 minutes (if you include the soaking period). And by the next day, the polish had chipped. TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT
2) the atmosphere is just soo horrendous. I mean, it looks like a salon my grandmother frequents - lots of linoleum, and bright fluourescent tubing lights. With so many other spas having comfortable massage chairs and foot massage baths, it was disconcerting having to sit in a cheap recliner and to place my feet in a plastic bath bucket.
It's a big salon, the back corridor is pretty windy, but the layout is so ticky-tacky. It is so not a day spa, it's a strip-mall nail and hair salon.
not too friendly a crew here, got a wax here and the girl "forgot to ask" if I had been taking any medications. So needless to say with my lip wax, my skin came off with my hair...I had a scab on it for 3 days right before a girls trip, was very sexy needless to say. She was like, Oh I'm sorry I didn't know you had been taking Accutane, yeah you aren't supposed to get a wax done. Did I get a refund, NOPE but i did ask. haven't been back since.....
My h-band got me a spa package here for my birthday last year, so I got a facial, massage, and mani/pedi. I've had all of these things before, and none of these were my favorite experience. The aesthetician made me feel like I had the grossest skin ever, the masseuse was really intent on getting out knots instead of just relaxing me, and my manicurist/pedicurist was way more focused on the fact that earl campbell had come in earlier that day. It was decent, but I've had way better experiences elsewhere.
Well Gina W, you need to learn how to read because I went to citysearch to check out your story and, well, you're wrong: lots of 2 stars and 3 stars amongst the reviews. And what is with you and "Lee" both having one review and both having it on the same day and both of you being the only ones with 5 stars for Aziz? As for me? Some twit with spiked hair gave me a buzz cut that left red streaks in my head for two days she pressed so hard (apparently the clippers weren't sharp enough a sage old army buddy informed me) and then had the gall to charge me $30. Thanks Aziz for a haircut that HURT my head and my wallet. And next time, don't try to pad your score with fake patrons.
Aziz is by far my favorite spa in Austin. Sure you can drive out to BFE to go to Lake Austin Spa or Spa at the Lake, but for downtown this is about as good as it gets. From haircuts, to manicures, pedicures, facials, and my favorite massages. I would recommend my masseuse but I have a hard enough time getting appointments but lets just say she is the best massage I've ever had and I've had tons. The staff is very friendly and they will happily serve you wine or water, and guide you through your experience. I truly and honestly can't say enough good things about this place and the people who work there. Definitely give them a call and give it a try.
A few friends of I pampered ourselves after a continuing education event here in Austin. Facial spa was my deal and it was pretty good. Fell asleep as usual, not a bad price for a total extravagance. One friend had a massage and another a pedi and cut. All were satisfied.
I am new to Yelp, and thought I would go through and rate all of the places I frequent. Of course I decided to rate this place since I have been a client there for the last 4 years. Frankly, I am shocked and kind of sad! I have NEVER had a bad experience there. I have everything done there, and I love it. They ALWAYS squeeze me in, they are professional, and everyone, that I've encountered anyway has tons of experience. My question to you would be, if your experience was so aweful did you at least say something to someone so they could rectify it? They would've.
Every business has their "bad day," and every one has their crappy employee (who most times aren't around that long), but in all fairness OVERALL, they ROCK! And in response to you, Thresher K, on Citysearch's website, yes they have a few bad reviews, but like I said OVERALL they are rated 5 stars in several departments--I love them!
super - cute receptionists! The stylists are very talented and focused on their job. The place has competative prices and a good rep. They were very accomodating and generous.
I hate to say it, but I have to agree with Thresher. Some of the reviews on here are suspect... To be fair, I will tell you that I've only experienced the waxing services at this salon--so my stars have nothing to do with anything else they offer. Nonetheless, some things have to be said. First of all, as sweet as the front desk people are, they've booked me for incorrect services twice. Second of all, the woman I was always booked with must have had better things to do because she definitely wasn't amped about being in the room with me. (Now people, I wasn't asking her to be thrilled about holding my leg up to my chin and ripping--God knows I wasn't! But it's an uncomfortable situation for both of us, so maybe don't make it so obvious that you hate me for being there.) Third of all, the building itself is anything but "warm and inviting." The outside looks like an office building and the inside looks like a bad stage for a hair salon from 1995. Lastly, when they do acknowledge that they messed up, they don't offer you anything for your trouble. You might get "Oh, come back tomorrow and she'll fix that. We'll just charge you the difference." Call me unfortunate, but I don't usually have time to flitter in and out of the salon at my whim. In short, there are better salons around town with cheaper prices and happier waxers. But hey, maybe the hair stuff there is awesome....
