4 reviews for Azarra Salon
I had been looking for a place here in Tacoma with good reviews - and reputation. There are actually a few... but twice while at the grocery store, I asked strangers (with cool hair) where they got it done -- and they raved about Aura at Azarra. So I thought I'd give it a try.
I wanted to CHOP my hair - and donate it to Locks Of Love - but I knew that going from long hair to very short could go very WRONG in the wrong hands....
Aura did AWESOME. I let her do whatever she thought would fit my lifestyle (mom to a bunch of little kids), and face. I have *NEVER* (and I mean NEVER) received so many compliments on my hair -- ever!!! That either means that I have always looked dumpy -- or the was an extraordinary cut. ....I vote for the latter! ;)
Fabulous shop. Hip, casual, warm atmosphere. Stylists/colorists are highly trained (and a damned hoot to talk with). I relocated from LA - the land of highlights, lowlights, and $400 salon visits - and spent six months trying to find someone in Olympia to do my hair. I really tried. When it was clear Oly wasn't going to happen, I moved on to Tacoma. I am thrilled to say that I've found someone who knows what she's doing!!!
I walked into Azarra with a ragged, overgrown, inappropriately blondish do and walked out looking pretty damned fine, if I do say so myself. Aura Mae knew just the right mix of deep, rich colors that work well with my skin tone, and just how to mend my crunchified tresses. My boyfriend can't keep his hands off my hair. How annoying. I'm trying to eat!
Seriously, THIS place is the shit. Are people still saying that? Prices are reasonable. Great selection of products you don't see everyplace you go. And get this... they also sell wine and beer. And you can participate in a tasting with your hair in foils. Pffffft... can't beat that.
Being new to the area, I went to this Salon because I read great reviews online about their stylists and I needed a cut and color. My appointment was with Aura Mae.
I admit I did arrive to the salon 10 minutes late, but I called (new to the area, I took a long route).
I explained what I wanted with the color, but Aura said that what I wanted wouldn't work, so she recommeded a different hair service. I figured she was the expert, so I agreed to go along with her suggestion.
The hair turned out just ok. I wasn't thrilled, but the color was better than when I walked in. But, you know how when you've had an awesome haircut and color and you feel actually feel "pretty"? Well, I NEVER had that experience there.
The worst part was that I had checked out their website to get an idea of pricing, but to my surprise and DISMAY, when I checked out, the service she did on my hair was $100 MORE than the listed price online. I was charged $200!!! WTF!
I was in tears when I left that place! I felt that when she offered a service that was WAY more expensive than the original request, the cool thing would be to advise that when doing the consultation! I felt robbed! Not that I'm being cheap, but I have NEVER in my life spent that much money on just an average cut and color!
Maybe if she had been nicer (she had no interest in me at all, and rarely talked to me), and I had left the place actually feeling like a million bucks, then I could have swallowed the price - but then again, I'm just not the $200 haircut kind of person!
I have been to this salon three times now and each has been great. My "hairapist" has been the owner, Aura Mae. She has done a fantastic job with each coloring and styling I have had done. I really appreciate that I have gone to her with nothing more than a mood I wanted my hair to be and she has executed it to a tee. She is a wealth of hair coloring knowledge and understands my desire for my color to be both noticeable but still natural. In addition I am a fan of Azzara Salon's low key yet professional atmosphere.
