I want to give them less than 1 star, but no choice.
I used to go here a while back. I don't want to get into the details; it was a painful experience and I don't want to relive it.
In short, I was deceived and ripped off. It took team-work to ripp me off. "Dr. Azarmehr", Esther and dental assistants.
Do not set foot here and let them take your money.
Stay far away. -

I went to this dentist for about a year. I got several crowns and fillings done there. A couple of thousand dollars all in all. I finally left because I felt he (or his wife) constantly tried to sell me more services. For example for each crown they sold me on some "precision upgrade" - a practice that dentist friends of mine say is unprofessional to say the least.
I since have been treated at UCLA dental school and the instructors there attested that the work done there was shoddy to say the least. The crowns are not precisely fit despite the "precision upgrades". This means they will not last as long and I'll have to have them re-done sooner than necessary.
More gravely they overtreated me. For small abrasions on my teeth they drilled out and put in fillings that kept falling out. With each treatment more and more tooth had to be drilled away. The professionals at UCLA (who have no financial interest in my teeth) said that the better way would have been to leave it instead of constantly putting in fillings that need to be replaced and my tooth disappears bit by bit.
I can only recommend, do your teeth and your wallet a favor and to stay away from these guys. -

I had been going to this dental office every 6 months for nearly 3 years. I will never go back after the last experience!
Most visits I only saw the hygienist - and she was wonderful. I've known for a long time that I have TMJ and when I went in for my checkup last month I talked to the hygienist about getting a night guard created to relieve the tension in the jaw and prevent grinding.
And in comes the dentist...he took an x ray and then brought out his skull model to show me how advanced my TMJ problem was, and INSISTED that my TMJ was too severe to benefit from the $160 night guard. He insisted that I would need his $3,000 therapy that would cover the appliance and 6-8 weeks of 'therapy' in his office. And on top of that he wanted me to go a friend of his who specializes in TMJ physical therapy, and he wanted me to go twice a week for 8 weeks. He said that the physical therapist was 'in network' and this is who he refers his patients to. Each physical therapy session started @ $160 and was NOT covered by insurance. The physical therapist IS NOT in network. And I'm not about to spend another $2400 for this.
I went back to the dentist the next week to tell him that his recommended physical therapist isn't in network, and I brought along a list of the 'in-network' physical therapists that worked with TMJ; he said he wouldn't refer me to any of these physical therapists because he didn't know them, and that the physical therapist he recommended knows what she is doing. He did call his physical therapist and had her lower her rate to $100/session but I refused to go at that price.
I made it thru the 5th week of his 'therapy' (the last 3 weeks consisted of me sitting in the chair for 20 minutes with an electro stimulation machine hooked up to both jaws - then saw him for a few minutes afterwards. That was it!
And by this time my dental claim form had come back from the insurance company (I knew that my dental insurance didn't cover this, but had to submit it thru dental before I could submit it thru the medical because some medical insuracnes do reimburse for TMJ). I went back into the dentist and asked him to break down his $3,000 bill (he just had it on one line for $3,000) so the insurance company could bill it correctly. He said he can't break it down because he doesn't know from the onset how the therapy is going to go - depends on the patient and how severe their condition is. So I asked him to 'break down' his charges once my therapy is complete, and he refused, saying he doesn't do that. I asked him how from 'the onset' he would know what to charge a patient? What if my 'therapy' is more involved than the next guys? What if my therapy is less involved than the next guys? We're all just paying a flat rate?
I found out that the laboratory only charges the dentist $500 for the appliance to be made, that means I'm paying the dentist $2,500 for 1) taking the first impressions for the appliance before the 'therapy began', 2) 2 weeks in the chair while he adjusts the appliance and 3) 3 weeks of sitting in the chair for 20 minutes while the electro stimulation machine does it's work.
Taking into account the $500 fee for the appliance, that means that the remaining balance of $2500 over a 6 weeks cost $416.67 per office visit, and over 8 weeks cost $312.50 per office visit. Having gone thru almost all of his in-office therapy I think these costs are ridiculous for what the patient is getting.
Several people in my office also go to this dentist since the dental office is close to work, and when I told them about ths $3k charge and the BS I experienced with the dentist, 2 of my coworkers said he's been pushing the same therapy on them! Ironically we all 3 need this? Hhmmm!?!?!?
Please get a second opinion.Comment from Parviz A. of Azar-Mehr's Dental Practice 3/31/2011
