it's clean...and nice....it's good simple food with an overpriced pricetag....what do you expect in a hotel restaurant?...just another hotel restaurant that i only went because i was hungry and i was staying at the hotel...
but..why the 4 stars?...i asked the waiter for a menu...but didn't find anything i was looking for...i handed the waiter back the menu...and told him i'll check out the other restaurants...he was the nicest grey haired man...and asked me very politely what i was looking for...i told him i didn't know...but, i was craving a sandwich..he asked me..what kind..i told him..a fried battered chicken breast sandwich...with mountain of bacon, tomato, lettuce and cheese...and i wanted honey mustard in it...he told me to take a seat..and he'll see what he can do...i sat and drank a glass of wine..and...wow...behold..a sandwich fit for a king...exactly what i requested....i was so happy...and it was soo good....the price was pretty high for a sandwich...but, didn't care..Listed in: ktown la...

We stayed at the Grand Kyoto and didn't want to wander too far for breakfast. Plus, we weren't sure exactly what was open around Little Tokyo at 8am. So we came here, and we got the option of the either the breakfast buffet for $18, or something off their menu, which ranges from $10-$15. The five of us opt for the buffet. Personally, I picked it because I like variety and wanted a little bit of everything.
They have: fruits (fresh & canned) & veggie, scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, french toast (with raisins), hard boiled eggs, pre-made smoothies, bagels, toasts, mini Danishes, coffee cake, oatmeal, cereal, rice with Japanese sides, and miso soup (with toppings).
My favourite was the miso soup in which I added tofu and seaweed. I felt like I was back in Japan! It was very refreshing and a good way to start the day. I had two bowls of it. I also liked the French toast, although it was more dense and flat than usual French toast. The coffee cake was good too, it had pieece of apples in it.
The potatoes were okay; it wasn't crispy enough. The smoothies were pre-made, so it was rom temperature and seemed discoloured. -

A cute little restaurant tucked inside Kyoto Grand hotel in Little Tokyo.
The plan was to go to Thousand Cranes with yelpers but that place was closed for good. Plan B was to go to Azalea. I got Cookie Dough ice cream and some apple pastry. The ice cream was Ben n Jerry prepackaged ice cream and served on a bowl of ice cube with a side of whipped cream. The apple pastry thing seemed like something that they heated up in the oven.
Oveall food quality was whatever. Not too much effort on preparing the food. The waitress kept coming back to our table because there was only one other customer at the restaurant at that time. It's like having the restaurant all to ourselves.
3 stars!! Just for the restaurant. Maybe because it's quiet but it was very serene. I think they still charge you for parking even after validation.
Azalea is almost yummylicious!!Listed in: Little Tokyo Restaurants &…

I came here with some peeps including Maggie C. No more Thousand Cranes. This is was all that was left. Great dessert. I had nothing but dessert for dinner. That's my type of good food. I surround myself in circles that feel the same. Yay for the "Dessert for Dinner Crew!"
Delicous and Creamy Mochi-Type Dessert with fruity jucy. -

I had a get-together with some old friends after work. I picked this place because it's clean and comfortable and I wanted something like that after a long day at work. Turned out this place was not so bad. Although the bread they served was horrible, but the service was good and the pasta was excellent!
So I recommend this place if you want something nice and quiet in downtown LA. -

This comment concerns the chicken avocado salad. I expected something a little different. Yes, there was chicken. Yes there was avocado. And yes, there was salad. So why do I feel so bad about this place? The avocado was a normal cut avocado. Nothing to rave about. But also nothing to knock on. The chicken, however, was not real chicken. It was chicken salad loaded with mayo, and it was tasteless. The salad consisted of cut iceberg.
So in the end, I got what I wanted: an avocado chicken salad. But it was far from what I wanted. -

I had a chance to experience the Thursday all-you-can-eat buffet here which is the filipino buffet. The price is $16.95 not including drinks for this feast. The buffet included the following:
- Sinigang - seafood soup in a sour broth with vegetables
- Pancit - glass noodles with chicken and vegetables
- Adobo spare ribs - soy sauce and vinegar sauce
- Chicken Adobo
- Kalderetang ng Baca - beef stew in tomato and red wine sauce
- Tilapia - fried tilapia (fish)
- Lumpia - spring rolls
- Red snapper
- Halo halo - filipino iced dessert with sweet condiments
All in all, the food was average tasting I thought. My favorite was the kalderetang ng baca over rice and the halo halo for dessert! The chicken adobo was pretty good too but definitely doesn't compare to mom's version!
It's a nice setting within the Kyoto Grand Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Parking can be tough at lunch time but there's a parking structure next to the hotel and it cost about $3.00. -

Updated lunch buffet. I should probably give it 2 stars, but I'm nice.
Now, the buffet is no longer a buffet. It's an all you can eat potato and soup bar. Baked potatoes with all the toppings. Salad. Soups (of the day). $10, plus the cost of a drink. The old buffet needed updating, but at least the choices changed for each day of the week. This doesn't change, so once you been...well, that's it.
Nice idea, but I think the hotel should have grabbed the Johnny Rockets franchise, instead of letting that go two blocks down the street. Maybe a TGI Fridays or something useful.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I was there doing a site survey for one of our annual company meetings. The hotel is undergoing a renovation with new ownership, so right now outside of the lobby, the hotel and restaurant look a bit dated. The food was good though. The kobe beef sliders had a nice presentation, though it was just mini burgers. They were also juicy and not greasy, and tasted very fresh. Looks like much of the crowd are business people, hosting a lunch meeting. The service from the restaurant staff was excellent.

So Azalea is an interesting place, because you'll probably never go there unless your staying at the hotel, but if you know of it, you may check it out a few times. The food is pretty good actually, a little on the pricey side for what it is, but it's nice cozy place. Service is going to be a 50/50 gamble. I know this, because I worked there for like 2 weeks as a bartender. After 2pm, they only have 1 person working the entire restaurant, meaning the "bartender" is also the host, server, busser, cashier, whole nine yards. So if it's busy, which it does get on occassion, it's insane! But on the nights where it's not busy, you can actually get super good service, it really depends on what's going on with the hotel... is there a conference in town, etc...
I suggest trying the Club Sandwich, the Salmon dinner is great, as are the mash potatos. Desserts are pretty good too, and the happy hour drink specials are really cheap. Like the other review by hen a., they will pretty much make you whatever you want, if it's slow and you want some food, it's not crazy to ask for something not on the menu, they make it for you. Had the job as bartender there, actually been a bartending job, I would have probably stayed on for a while, but I was misinformed about the position. Overall though, I liked the place, and the food was actually pretty good. -

Why the low ratings? This place was delightful! Loved their steak salad. Their Kobe beef sliders were pretty good, too.

this quaint little place is located inside of the downtown LA hotel, the new otani. the place is beautiful, clean and simply decorated with flowers. the price for food is a bit much but it's a nice place. i have to admit, it isn't bad for hotel food.

Checked in very late and decided to have dessert before bed. The chocolate cake and pear tart were horrible. They must have microwaved it b/c the texture was rubbery, dry, and you couldn't even cut the tart w/ a fork or knife!
