Update to my review from August:
I have used the Red Light Therapy twice a week, and my clients actually comment on how supple my skin looks. Some subtle scars from my earlier years are totally gone. I used to have dark eye circles that are starting to fade with the eye cream regimen. I love the glow I get the next day! I highly recommend this regimen. Must try.1 Previous Review: Show all »

It's a shame I'm writing a review about a tanning salon because I didn't want anyone to know that I Fake Bake (~.^)v --- Now, it's on yelp, so everyone knows! YIKES!!!
Anyways, I wanted to write a review on AZ Heat Tanning to confirm all the previous comments about this place. There are no start up or annual fees- You are free to be a member for as long as you like without having to worry about cancellation charges. As a matter of fact, I know this to be true : if you call to get general information about their beds and packages/pricing, they will be up front and honest with you because I called before walking in. They are not like your typical tanning salon- most places will try to get you to come in before releasing anything over the phone, which is like a used car sales guy tactic. None of that here. All the workers are very friendly and cute ^.^
Other good things about AZ Heat Tanning:
-Open late
-Weekend Specials
-mimosas on weekends
-Workers are very considerate. If they are busy at the front, they will always greet you and let you know they will be with you in a few.
-I hear they do an excellent job on spray tans
-Right in the middle of Hillcrest and tons of shopping and restaurants near by.
-This is the most important : The beds are always clean! The bathrooms are clean. The entire establishment is quite clean and stocked with clean towels, goggles, and lotions.
-I think they do Red light therapy here? -- I need to check that out
-Good music and happy workers every single time you walk in!
If you want honesty and a friendly workers, I would come here. Guranteed you won't be disappointed. But....If you want to go some place that's not so friendly and superficial, and their staff comes across as some used car sales guy trying to rip you off...( I'm not going to disclose the name of this place), but you should call the tanning place at horton plaza. No joke, horrible.

Ever heard the statement, as good as it gets? That's AZ Heat. Honestly. I've been to tanning salons before - and I've always felt like I was part of a Mean Girls episode. Not Here!! Buck is seriously the nicest guy (I've only been twice thus far, but he was genuinely friendly both times). Very open and friendly vibe, you feel welcome, it smells clean, it IS clean, state of the art. Comfortable, kind, really know what they're talking about. I bought a 2 week package right off the bat to get tan for my upcoming trip. Didn't try to up sell at all - just told me the packages, the benefits of each, and oh, did I mention Sunday mimosas? I would (and already have!) recommended this spot to friends - no contracts, great hours, easy to find and park, different packages for different income levels, definitely a great experience. I did the level 5 and after two times I'm already tan - LOVE.

I think this is one of the best tanning salons that I have ever been to. I went on a sunday and the prices were half off and they also serve free mimosas in the morning! SCORE! The bed was great, I had a great tan from just one session in the level 3 bed for the max time. It is very clean and the staff is very helpful and friendly!!

Derrick is awesome! He really knows what he is doing when he does the airbrush. I felt very comfortable for my first time and he schooled me through it all. I love the energy of the place and the energy of the two great owners! I would go back to them for a special event tan in the future, as I do not use beds. I can't sit still long enough! Good job guys!
Unfortunately, I did have a reaction to the spray tan in which I am not too sure if I can avoid in the future. Man, I sure loved how I looked before that though! If I could just get my body chemistry right I'd be in there every day! -

Didn't think this place could get any better, buuutttt....
On weekends they rock 1/2 off single tanning sessions! Cheeeaaaaahhhh! Come in on a Sunday enjoy a complimentary mimosa and tan for half the price. You can't beat that.

Buck is a doll, he always greets me with a smile. As a fellow zonie i could not help but support my fellow residents.
Place is great, clean, parking is a breeze and prices are resonable since you dont need a membership.
ps just noticed tonight that they now carry JWOWW lotion...cabs r hereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee -

YAHOO! I can walk to this place from my house which is AMAZINGLY convenient. It's in the same parking lot as Ralphs and Trader Joes on the second floor.
I went for the first time last night with my best friend and we signed up for a 5 session package for $25! Hello amazing deal. I could have signed up for unlimited for $19 but I am just checking it out for now.
The place was CLEAN and the guys that work there are adorable.
They were knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. Also, as everyone else said...they have a Sunday Funday which is freaking genious. Mimosos here I come! They also have half off single sessions on the weekends. Single sessions from $3 to $12!
Even though I have only been there once, I will for sure be coming back (I have 4 sessions left) AND because I liked the vibe.
Small businesses need all the support they can get so check them out and REVIEW them! -

I freakin love this place! The staff are so friendly and helpful, the beds and rooms are extremely clean and well stocked. The prices are fantastic and they have a good selection of lotions at a decent price. The deals and specials they have are so great, and they are always coming up with something new. Sunday's they now give out complimentary mimosas! I always feel warmly welcome, and get greeted promptly at the door. Parking is never an issue. I just love everything about this place, they can't be beat!

Best tanning salon I've ever been to!!!! It's like a tanning salon and spa in one! I did the hydration therapy today and it felt amazing...detox, tone, tan and hydrate all in one place. It's spotless clean.
It's located at Uptown (the Ralphs & Trader Joe's shopping center in Hillcrest).
Needless to say, I got a monthly membership. Love them! -

I do believe that the Sunday Mimosas idea is the most brilliant marketing device ever thought of! Most of my favorite activities involve simultaneous exposure to alcohol and sun so I was naturally drawn to AZ Heat Tanning over the competitors.
Besides that, Buck and Derrick are great guys who are very knowledgeable, friendly and fun to talk to. This place has more beds and is generally cheaper than every other tanning place I've been to in San Diego.
Plus, I like that they are a locally owned small business rather than a big corporation. Supporting local businesses = good. This place is definitely worth a try. -

Wow! What an amazing spray tan!! I went in last Thursday after purchasing a daily deal to get some color before an upcoming trip to Vegas. I've had some bad experiences with spray tans before (like the one I did before my wedding-calico skin on your wedding day is traumatizing to say the least! Thank god for my makeup artist-but I digress....) so I had pretty low expectations from the start. As soon as I walked in I was warmly greeted like I had been there a thousand times, and felt beyond comfortable getting sprayed by Derrick. He described everything to me and gave me great tips to prolong my tan. Needless to say, it's now the following Wednesday and I still have color! It's not blotching away like some spray tans, it's just gently fading into my skin. LOVE! I WILL be back! Oh, and mimosas on Sundays?! What more could you want!? :)

If I could take every piece that I liked of all the tanning salons I have been to in the past 10 years, they would all exist perfectly in AZ heat tanning. Brand new facilities, top of the line beds, and buy 5 get three free? Yes please! Mimosas on Sunday (cause we likes to par-tay AND tan!) excellent lotion selection, and clean, clean clean! Best part: the beds work like they are supposed to! No confusing wall controls and you are free to adjust everything from the face lamps to your iPOD! Its owned by the sweetest local couple who truly want you to be happy with your package/ tan/ and overall experience. Who doesn't like giving back to their community and those who live here? Pale people, thats who!

One of my new favorite guilty pleasures! at least for the weekends since they have tanning sessions at half off including level 5 beds!!! you just cant say no to this tanning place! i spend what you want when you have it and when you want to. no contracts no fees nothing! i simply love it and recommend it to everyone i know! I'm glad i decided to stop by and ask questions! their beds are super new and cool! not to mention clean! the man at the front desk is friendly and really nice! Def try it!!

Super clean and nice staffs!!! I heard they have a weekend deal such as 50% off on a tanning session so I went there my husband. It's a very right and cool place!!! They don't even push you to buy any product or tanning pass at all.

I'm not a regular indoor tanner, I just go prior to trips to make sure I have a base. Past experiences have all entailed the salesperson trying to sell me the biggest package, along with various lotions that, according to them are a MUST.
AZ Tan, just the opposite. Derrick and Buck are just GREAT! They don't try to up-sell you and they are really knowledgeable about what would be best for you and your time constraints.
Super clean place, and I LOVE the idea of Sunday Mimosas!

This was the first place I went to tan when I moved to the area..not only are they so incredibly friendly and fun but the atmosphere is very modern cool, cleanest salon I have yet to see and the beds are state of the art . spray tan and first class service. I love the team at AZ and even stop in to say hi when I am just passing by...OH...and they have mimosa Sundays.... Happy Anniversary AZ Heat...SD loves you and so do I!!!

I am very picky when it comes to tanning salons. Unbelievably picky! Of course, a good tan is a necessity. But first and foremost, cleanliness. There is nothing more unsettling than noticing smudges on the glass of the bed from the tanner prior to you. As my standards for a clean salon are above par, it is hard to find a suitable salon. AZ Heat Tanning is the only salon I have found in San Diego that exceeds my expectations. The beds are noticeably clean and they work amazingly well! I was tan within 3 sessions (and I am a fair-skinned tanner)! The staff is always extremely pleasant and helpful. I don't know any of their names, specifically, but they are all so nice! The atmosphere is casual and comfortable with energetic music to keep you entertained throughout your session. They don't force you to sign any contract or buy extra products (lotions, expensive packages, etc.), as well as providing free eye protection to all their clients. I have yet to try the airbrush tan or other packages aside from the tanning beds, but I'm sure you will not be disappointed with this salon!

This place rocks! I got a two-week membership with my VIP card and was extremely impressed from the minute I walked in. Buck and Derrick are so nice and knowledgeable and really make you feel at home. I have worked at a tanning salon and been to several around Orange County and San Diego and this place is definitely up there with the elite. ;) I have been doing level 2/3 beds and have only gone about 6 times but I definitely have a good tan going even though I don't even tan very well. The salon and beds are always immaculate and there is never any residual smell that you may have experienced at other places (that start with an I). ;) Go check it out!

I really love AZ Heat Tanning. I used to be a loyal I Tan member, but as they grew, the quality has seemed to diminish while the prices continue to rise. I get a really good industry discount here, which really helps since being tan and having good skin is required for my job. But if you don't get the industry discount, they offer 1/2 off tans on the weekends!!! They're beds are very well maintained and very clean--completely mandatory. The staff is sooo friendly and very helpful. My new favorite service is the Red Light Therapy skin care standing bed. I've only tried it 3 times so far and notice my skin tone starting to even out. AND, you get to stand on this vibrating plate that actually feels really soothing, but actually gives you a pretty decent leg and butt workout. You have to try it. Next, I really wanna try the air brush tans, since I have to take breaks from the tanning bed for laser treatments. You guys have to check this place out.

I met Buck and Derrick the other day in the Uptown Shopping Center. I was looking for an old tanning place and found they were no longer there - upstairs by Sol Gym and the Police Substation. They were located just down the walkway. Well I was impressed. I went in for a spray tan and found that they have a sauna - spa type unit where you lay inside and it pulls toxins out of your body - your head stays out with cool fans on your face. Then they have a red light therapy unit you stand in for full body red light (no heat) treatments for your circuloation and metabolism. It helps reduce crows feet on your face and tones your whole body. So cool. I was in a hurry so I couldn't the two but I am definately going back. And, you don't have to do the monthly membership stuff either. They have great machines and I highly recommend you go check them out - - they are open 7 days a week.
