Today, I ate one of the very best Thai dishes I've ever had in my life. On the lunch menu, it was called Combo #4, and consisted of four flavorful tempura prawns over a bed of fresh spinach, drizzled with a thin, yet complex peanut sauce, interspersed with bits of crumbled peanut.

On the side, came a serving of lightly fried rice, but the rice was unlike any I'd had before. It wasn't dry like a lot of fried rice can be; instead it was almost tossed, if you will, with a subtle, but tasty clear sauce. Not swimming in it mind you, but just gently coated, like the whole thing was simmered as opposed to fried.

And the Thai iced tea? Perfect ratio; not watered down, a good amount of sweetness and smokiness without being overpowering.

    Seriously, good stuff.

Now, i don't want you to get confused... you shouldn't get this dish confused with what it sounds like I'm describing; they do indeed have a param (rama) dish, but when I ordered that the last time I came here, it wasn't nearly as spectacular. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it was nothing like this. And considering the dish I'm describing was priced as a lunch combo, I know what I'll be getting next time.

I will say, I do wish the serving size was a little larger. My fellow diner ordered the chicken satay salad (Combo #5), and when I saw how little was on his plate, I was a tad disappointed. Even so, he said it was quite tasty, and he normally doesn't do Thai food. Still, it was a good thing he wasn't too hungry.

All in all: great food, reasonable pricing, very friendly staff.

    Go and tell your friends.

I'm so sad to say that I was not at all impressed with the food.  I live in Gilroy and was hoping that this could be my go-to carry-out restaurant.  Unfortunately, I will continue to prepare my own Thai food.  I'm a BIG fan of Thai cuisine.  When I vacationed in Thailand for a couple of weeks, I feasted, and I mean FEASTED, on the food.  I stayed at quaint, family run hotel in Ko Lanta (the proprietor boasted Queen-sized beds for the Americans which was situated under one, lone light bulb dangling from the ceiling).  The sister-in-law was the cook.  Each afternoon, they put the morning's catch on a cart of ice for display for the dinner.  I greedily would start off with two plates of food, and then proceed to order plate after plate of food as I devoured plate after plate of food.  It was such a steal at $1.00 a dish.  I would average seven plates per night.

I'm not quite sure what happened with Ayuttaya.  Maybe they were off.  We ordered basic staples such as Chicken Basil and Pad Thai.  The flavors were lackluster and the ingredients were scant.  The portions were pretty good, but that doesn't do much if the taste was bland or if the Pad Thai was all noodle (no limes, bean sprouts).

We have eaten twice at Ayuttay. I was really contemplating between a 3 to a 4 star but what finally put me to a 4 was the excellent service and their soup. I don't remember the name exactly but it was something like "tom young" with chicken. The yellow curry was good and I was happy to see that they had carrots and it was not the usual chicken with potato. The only thing was that the pad thai was ehh. I have had better pad thai and this one was lacking something. I don't know exactly but it just wasn't like the pad thai I remember and I love pad thai.

I will definetely go back again and maybe try their other noodle dishes.

Was craving Thai food after skydiving in Hollister so we stopped by this restaurant. We got there about  dinner time and I had the Chicken Pad Thai and spring rolls. I remember the pad thai not being as flavorful and lacking a bit of chicken. Wasn't impressed by how little chicken was served with the dish however the spring rolls were good, fresh vegetables and the peanut dipping sauce was pretty thick.
Our food did take a while to come out after we ordered and the restaurant wasn't busy, there were only 2 other parties. Overall, it was an OK experience.

The Thai food here is good and for being in Gilroy it is as good as it gets. Service is good and servings are generous. I always get Pad Thai, Green Curry and Papaya Salad. Comparing it to some of the other Thai places I've been to I would definitely come back and recommend others to go there if they live close by

This place doesnt look like much from the outside.  I have driven by it many times without ever noticing it but the interior is very different.  The decor is nice and subtle creating a very relaxed and peaceful atmosphere.

The food was good.  Their sticky rice was good as well as their chicken pad Thai.  The one thing that i would recommend was their Thai iced tea! Pretty awesome! They are also very generous with the basil in their summer rolls making them extra flavorful.

Their service was wonderful.  They were very attentive and they made sure my drinks were taken care of because I was very thirsty!  They offer alcoholic drinks like imported and domestic beers as well as cold and hot sake.

Their bathroom was not terrible but could have used a cleaning and there was a fly in the restaurant that was very annoying.

Since I live in Gilroy it's not really convenient to go up to Morgan Hill or San Jose for Thai food. Fortunately, there is a tasty thai food restaurant close by! Although it's not my favorite Thai place of all time, I do enjoy the food at Ayuttaya. The seafood pad thai is full of big pieces of white fish, shrimp, and calamari that are delicious! I also like the yellow curry. My only small issue with the place is that their prices are a little on the high side for Gilroy, but who am I to complain when they're the only place in town with Thai food? Overall, I recommend Ayuttaya to residents or visitors to Gilroy. Yummy!

    Yes! Thai in GILROY!

I was very, very pleasantly surprised. After a round of golf my gf and I were ready to eat a cow. We aren't from Gilroy and had no clue where to eat. After finding the closest highest rated place on yelp, we took the plunge and had dinner here.

    WOWOWOOWWEEEEWA!

We shared the special fried fish with spicy sauce and crab noodles. I had a cup of Tom ka and enjoyed every bite of my dinner. I was also very satisfied with the spice level. I get frustrated when I ask for spice and I get no heat! They aren't scared to add the heat here!

Attentive service and authentic cuisine. I will make this my apre golf dinner spot from now on!

Not only is there a Thai restaurant in Gilroy - There is an EXCELLENT Thai restaurant in Gilroy...

I judge a Thai restaurant by their Pad See Ew...  And it is so yummy here! I love how flexible they are with the spiciness - They can make it Whitey spicy or Thai spicy, or anything in between! Everything i've ever eaten here has been great!  I would say the portions are a little too small, but that might just be because the food leaves you wanting more more more!!

It's always empty in there and i have no idea why! The food is phenomenal - maybe not enough people know about it?

    *** UPDATE ***

I want to own up to my previous 3 star review and the shaky presuppositions that it relied on. I had a fundamental misunderstanding about Thai food. The marriage of many flavors (coconut, peanut, basil, etc) are best experienced when your mouth feels like it's on fire. I'm now of the opinion that most Thai food should be ordered and eaten "Thai hot". I'm guessing that during my last visit the server didn't hear me say "Thai hot" and I just got it regular hot. No big deal. Today I ate some redeeming heat!

I ate the Thai basil w/beef "Thai hot" and it was one of the best Thai dishes I've ever had (see photos).

First time having thai food in Gilroy. I was a bit hesitant but hey, it was pretty good! We ordered the thai hot green curry with beef. OH BOY was it HOT!! It was super yummy, but I think next time I will get one level lower. I also tried their drunken noodle and it was pretty good, except it was a bit too oily for my  taste. Service was good too! Although we were only there with one other table. Definitely will come back to try other things!

This cute little Thai place is just down the street from our house.  We've gone there the last 2 Friday nights because the wife is Catholic and can't eat "meat" on Fridays.  So she gets something with prawns.  I still don't understand why fish isn't considered meat to Catholics, but I digress.

The first time we ate there, there was only 2 other parties there, and the second time, we were the only people in the restaurant.  I'm not sure why, the food is fine.  Their Tom Yum soup is tasty and the basil chicken was also very good.  I've asked for extra spicy food both times and it still isn't that spicy.

You don't have many options for Thai food in Gilroy, but you can't go wrong with Ayuttaya.  I wonder how they stay in business with so few customers, but maybe we just went there at a lull both times.

This place is located in the corner of a plaza and the owners look like they have taken steps to make the restaurant feel upscale and refined.  They use real tablecloths, stem glasses, and nice place settings.

I took the chance and recently stopped by for lunch takeout  but am sad to report that I was extremely disappointed.  The food at Ayuttaya is pseudo-authentic to say the least.  The green curry chicken was bland and the prik king beef was tough/chewy with hardly any flavor.  Also the (lunch) portions were tiny for the price!

Perhaps I would have had a better experience if I dined inside the restaurant, rather than takeout or if I had ordered from their dinner menu, rather than the lunch.  But those are big IFs.... in my opinion, it is hard to improve on the quality of food if it's cooked by the same person/team.

For those that are not familiar with Thai cuisine, then this place may be OK.  Just don't get swayed by "niceties."  Good service and a pleasant dining environment are definitely important, but the food has to be good.  That's what is most important in my opinion.

Note:  Merchants accepting Visa or MasterCard credit or debit cards are currently not allowed to set a minimum amount for using the card; that is a violation of the merchant agreement.

This place was so yummy!  We came here on our way back from a road trip and were very pleasantly surprised!  The food was excellent and the people working there were so friendly.  We had a thai iced coffee (by accident--we meant to order a thai iced tea) which tasted yummy and introduced me to something new.  :)  I think their closing time is supposed to be 9 but they stayed open a little later for us and then people who came in after us, which was super nice!

My only complaint: the music.  The night I was there, they had kinda generic piano music quietly playing in the background.  I didn't notice it at first but then after about 10 songs I realized... they were playing the same song over and over, on repeat!!  It wasn't bad music but once I realized it was on repeat, it started to bug me.  But that's no reason not to go here!  The food and service are very, very good!

Wow, what a find in the little city of G~town! My BF & I love this place! Very friendly customer service, great fulfilling food! Let's see, we usually get:

    --Chicken Satay for our appetizer
( The Peanut & Cucumber sauce is delish!)
    --Pineapple Curry
(a side of Rice is extra & it is served in a fancy shmancy ancient pot)
    --Shrimp Pad Thai
    --& Thai Iced Tea ofcourse.

One time we came here close to closing time, and they were so friendly to let us even sit down and eat our dinner. Aside to that, more customers kept coming in at least 20 minutes pass closing time, and not once did I hear the employees complain or turn them away. Nice people, Great Food! :) Definitely a fav. in Gilroy!

Excellent food and service!  Who would have thought we'd find such a great Thai restaurant in Gilroy?  I didn't pre-Yelp this place but my eagle-eyed little bro spotted this place as we drove by.

We were famished when we arrived.  My Vegan hubby and bro, my veg sis-in-law and me and omnivore niece had a feast here!

We had fresh veggie rolls, pad thai, veggie fried rice with pineapples, yellow curry vegetables, two other veg entrees and a fabulous green curry eggplant tofu dish.  My bro says that green curry is hard to make
that's why you don't see it very often. That green curry sauce was so
delicious that we scrapped off every bit of the sauce off the platter.

The prices were very affordable (mostly $6.95-$8.95 range) I don't know what the final bill was since my sweet and sneaky bro grabbed the check and paid for us.

We'll definitely return here next time we're in Gilroy.

    Service was warm and friendly.

btw.  There is plenty to choose from for omnivores and vegetarians!

P.S.  All that was missing from this meal was sharing it with Marsha Z, Yelp's Veg Thai Queen!   8)

Good quality Thai food. All of the classics done very nicely with a sweet local family running things.
Gilroy has needed a Thai restaurant for quite some time and this is a fine one. Scoot in there and have some Panang Curry.

    RECENT UPDATE:

I've been back a few times and the food has maintained it's good quality.
Regular Thai food eaters know that this cuisine has some chili peppers that can rip the chrome off a trailer-hitch at adistance of five-hundred yards.
Be sure that you aren't kidding if you ask for it to be hot.

Also, their Thai coffee is especially fine.
I have to qualify this statement because many people believe that Thai coffee can only be good if it has the little "espresso," strainer on the top of the cup.
These folks don't do that, and the coffee is still very good.
It's got an "edge of charcoal," burned taste that I really love.

Slug it down, you'll feel different AND better right away.
If you have TWO you'll see "vapor trails," when you wave your hand around....

A week later I came back alone for lunch. Maybe better than supper last week!. I had a eggplant dish with beef that was superb! It came with a cute little salad and an incredible soup. The soup was a coconut milk base, probably traditional I thought was incredible!. The Asian eggplants were so good I could have had 3 times as much with the same generous amt of beef. If I hadn't been going shopping in the summer I would have taken half to go... with the soup it was very filling!  The iced tea was delicious not at all sweet. oh and for those that think Thai is hot this dish was not at all. I hung out awhile with a book and ate all  of it. The service was good the servers/family(?) were very sweet and attentive.

Also the ladies room to wash up, nice and clean!
Oh there is a $15 min on the credit card.

My bestie and I decided to spend the day shopping at the Gilroy Outlets, but we were running on fumes, and her daughter was super hungry by the time we got to Gilroy.  We hit up Yelp to see what was close by to eat, and we decided to try out this place.  My bestie had never tried Thai food, so I was praying that this place would not disappoint.

We ordered the summer rolls (spring rolls), and instead of the usual shrimp, or pork pate, these had tofu.  Let me just say that tofu is either hit or miss for me.  Some places get it right, others fall way short.  This place does tofu right!!  We then were trying to figure out what to get her daughter, and the lady was nice enough to let us know that she could ask the cook to prepare a smaller portion for her with rice and veggies, so we ordered bbq chicken for her.  She LOVED it!  I swear, my friend is blessed because her daughter loves to eat her veggies!

My bestie and I ordered the Veggies Lover with Chicken, Brown Fried Rice with Chicken, and Pineapple Siam Chicken.  Everything was so tasty!  The Veggie Chicken had bite sized pieces of the delicious tofu, and the veggies were not at all over cooked, and were still crunchy, yummy!  The Pineapple Siam Chicken had a nice little spice to it, and the pineapple was that nice little sweet, juicy bite that compliments the spicy.

The staff here is top notch!  They were so helpful with the kids plate, and made sure that we had plenty of cold water.

We don't head out to Gilas that often, but when we do, we will definitely stop by for some good Thai food!

I really wanted to like this place, but I'm sorry to say that I've been to much better Thai restaurants.

Went today for lunch and our meal started off with water that had strange things floating around... sorta like a snow globe.  The waiter tried to pour us better water, but there was still some sort of blizzard going on in the glass.

The food wasn't horrible, but it was far from great.  Now, usually if there's a problem with flavor, it's that there isn't enough, but it's also very possible to have too much flavor.  As was the case with my pad see ew.  The flavor was alright, but there was too much.  It was sorta too overwhelming.  The noodles were also slightly too chewy for my taste.  Pineapple fried rice was nothing special and the pad thai didn't really taste like pad thai.

The prices are very affordable and lunch specials come with soup and salad.  The portions are pretty generous, but it wasn't enough to compensate for the lack of quality of food.  I probably won't be back, even if it is the only Thai restaurant in Gilroy.

Hadn't been in this place for a while and I have to say I enjoyed it more today than I had in the past.  The food has always been pretty good, but for the longest time, there was a distinct odor as soon as you walked in--a mix between burnt oil and fresh paint (hard to explain).

Very nice meal for 2--fried fish cakes as appetizers $6.95 (slightly too salty, but not too greasy), seafood delight $12.95 (mix of squid, fish, shrimp and oysters with grilled bell peppers, fresh basil), seafood soup $10.95 (my husband liked it, I thought it was a bit oddly sweet), side of steamed rice (perfect) $1.95.  Thai iced tea (adequate) $1.95. Oh! And for dessert... also perfect sticky rice (with semisweet coconut milk) and fresh mango, sprinkled with sesame seeds $5.95.

The best part: the nasty oil/paint smell was gone!  The bill was about $45 for the two of us, not including tip. Good service.

Siam Thai in Morgan Hill is the only place I know that tops them, but,  this restaurant holds a very respectable runner-up position right here in Gilroy.

Heard and read great things about the cuisine but was unpleasantly surprised at the amount of the bill.  $60.00 for dinner for two.
    eggroll appetizer (5 rolls)
    spicy pork fried rice
    beef and veggies
    sweet n sour chicken
Spicy pork fried rice was good and HOT! If you like spicy (like i do), then this is the rice for you. The sweet n sour chicken had a lot of flavor. Beef and veggies was a little spicy with lots of flavor.
Only one server waiting on four other tables.  Service was slow and the waiter failed to mention the specials of the evening that were posted OUTSIDE the restaurant on a table near the entrance.

So, I decided to check this place out yesterday based on Bill J.'s review.  I was a little wary at first based on the locale, which seemed a little sketchy.  The food was good (it wasn't krung thai quality, but still decent).  I will definitely go back and try it a second time.

One thing to note was that they had run out of bell peppers the day I ordered, which really limited the number of things on the menu that you can order.  Apparently, there was a big party that ordered nothing but basil chicken, which used up the restaurant's supply of peppers.  Hopefully, this was a one time glitch.

One good thing was that they were willing to make anything I wanted.  I just had to describe what I wanted in the dish, and they put it together, which was great.  They were really flexible with their menu, to allow you to find the perfect dish for you.

We shall see what happens the second time around....

I wanted to like this restaurant so much!!!  The owner seemed so nice when I stop by to pick up a take out menu about two weeks before we actually ate here.  We've lived in CA for 2 years and really miss Thai food (we used to eat it at least once a week when we lived in Portland).  But it just fell flat, worse than flat, too salty, on almost every dish.

We ordered Tom Kha Ghai (spelling), Pad Thai, and ??? (I forgot now), but we just nibbled, left it the excess and went home to cook something else.  It wasn't just that it was too salty.  For us, all the flavors just fell short.

    Very sad.

I love to try everyone's pad Thai, and this was a good one.  Service is friendly.   Better for you and same price as fast food these days.

Not sure if they've had a change in ownership, but both dishes we got yesterday tasted distinctly sweeter than my last visit a year and a half ago. It's not a bad thing if that's what you like, it's just a matter of preference. We ordered both the spicy eggplant chicken ($9.95) and vegetarian red curry ($9.95) with medium spice, which offered a nice, subtle heat that comes through in the end, although my inner self-masochist will opt for a spicier version next time. The eggplant was cooked perfectly so it didn't end up as a pile of mush on the plate, and the generous amount of chicken picked up the flavors of the basil-infused sauce nicely. Red curry was fine, albeit one-noted compared to others I've had. Wish the veggie/tofu to curry ratio was a bit more level. Noodles aren't listed on their online menu, but are offered (pad thai, drunken noodles, pad se-ew). Service is incredibly nice. Not my go-to Thai restaurant, but it'll do when I'm too tired to venture out of Gilroy for a fix.

Okay, we've just moved to Gilroy and are Jonesing for some Thai food.

We've driven by Ayuttaya several times before and decided to roll the dice. What a find! The food is great. We had dinner the first time around and lunch today. Each time we had the Pad See Ewe and Thai Basil Chicken. Delicious!

I strongly recommend you try this if you are in town or just want to keep a business alive.

I had been here with the previous owner... not so impressed. I saw the new ownership sign & wanted to give it a try. The calamari pad thai lunch special came with soup (great soup), rice ($1.00 more for brown rice) all for $8.95 ish. The pad thai is great, im sitting here eating it now. The soup was amazing, i will be returning!
