This is a great value hotel. I think you can get the room on any number of travel sites for around $99, plus all of the taxes and fees. It is mock European, but to 90% of travelers, it would seem pretty real. It's in the (mock) Venice tradition of hotel furnishings without the water outside of your window. The rooms are very roomy, clean, and well (mock) classy. Internet is included, a full breakfast (Venice Style in the main dining room) and high ceilings. Seriously, a great value.

The downside is that if you stay here on weekends, you will most likely run into a family reunion, wedding, or wedding reception. The courtyard is perfect for these kinds of events. I don't mean that weddings are bad (unless it's yours, of course), but it means loud, robust and partying groups who can make the overall hotel experience rather noisy, if you don't ask for a room away from the wedding parties. I was beaching it and partying the entire time outside of the hotel, so I can't relate to you what the restaurant was like (but the menu indicated pricey) and the bar although quaint and inviting seemed expensive. I know first hand about the bar. I paid $21 for a vodka cran (tall) without tip (yes, it was a call vodka, but still.) I was going to stay and have more, but when I saw the check, I just said, "Give me a roadie" and headed back to the room.

I just wish they built this in a better area, but then it wouldn't be $99. Not that it's crime ridden; I mean by the beach, not off the interstate. My friends stayed at a Marriott Spring Hill something or other and it was $25 more a night. It seemed really ghetto compared to the Ayres. The employees were nice and helpful. No complaints...

This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. I actually used this place twice last year: once for a romantic rendezvous and another time for my sister's college graduation bash. Both times I was there I had the most amazing experiences and I know I will forever remember them because the hotel is just that bomb! lol

Let me break it down for you. Sometimes I like to do things big so me and my guy at the time booked an executive suite for the day and night. The suite was simply the most beautiful and amazing place I have ever seen. I kid you not. Let me describe the suite. When you walk in the first thing you see is this big ass bathroom complete with a marble counter top with double sink basins. Adjacent to that is a mini bar that has a microwave oven, a mini fridge, as well as a coffee maker. As if that is not enough there is their full-scale living room complete with a love seat, a coffee table, and dinette set that is off to the side. And yes, there is a nice sized television in the living room as well. Now, let's go to the bedroom. As you walk through the arched doorway, upon entrance the first thing you see is the Queen sized four poster bed. It's definitely a work of art because attached to the frame are four elegant columns that reach gloriously into the air. That shit looks like it came straight from a fairy tale book. lol In case you care (who the hell watches tv in the bedroom?! lol) there is another television there as well.

Yes, while the executive suite is gorgeous as hell don't get me wrong because the regular rooms are beautiful as well. They are just smaller is all. The regular room still has a mini living room as well as a mini kitchenette. The only difference other than the smallness, is the fact that the bedroom is not sectioned off from the living room. But who cares? It's still bomb!

What I love about the rooms and the hotel in general is that it is decorated in the Old European style. When the party planner was giving my sister and me a tour she pointed out this lovely private dining room and told us that the door frame was imported from a castle in France. How frickin' awesome is that?!

Anyway, now that I've mentioned my sister's party let me tell you about how Ayres Hotel hooked us up and gave us all a night to remember. For starters, the waitstaff was simply amazing! They were very professional in the way they handled things. Whatever we needed they provided. Case in point: my sister's party had a music/Kanye West "Graduation" theme. So, I got the idea to decorate the foyer leading to the banquet room with posters featuring a bunch of music artists. Well, in order to prop them up I needed easel-backs; no idea where the hell to find them for cheap. Well, guess what? The Hotel had about eight of them and they were nice wrought-iron ones. God, the display turned out so nice. Wish y'all could have seen it! Basically, these people took care of us and made sure we had a great time!

Let me tell you about the food! Bomb! My sisters' friends are still talking about the sherbet dessert they had at her graduation party one year later! lol. I sampled the chicken and it was succulent and delicious! When I was up in my room with my ex guy we had some kind of gourmet pizza complete with gouda? I forget but it was so Goooood! Yes, the Maltisse Restaurant definitely knows how to throw down. lol

I cannot say too many good things about this place. I would definitely go again because it's worth the price. Simply put. :)

I was here for a friend's wedding reception. Parking was difficult because the lot was full. But was we got inside we found the lobby to be beautiful, with signage directing us to the appropriate room. Staff was friendly and helpful I was disappointed that no gift shop was available on-site, and so we were directed to a Trader Joe's down the street. Our room was comfortable and clean, although a little dim. The bed was very comfortable! Our reception was fun and staff was attentive to our needs throughout the evening. Overall a wonderful experience!

We got married at a nearby location, and we chose to stay at Ayres for the weekend. This was back in October 2008.

Pros:
- The front desk staff was great.  They answered all our questions, and even let us see the rooms, unlike the Marriot.  Rooms were great.  Very comfy beds, nice size, you would forget you're in LA.

- Price was decent for what you get.  I've stayed at many hotels across the US and abroad, and the Ayres was nice.

- If you are also planning a wedding, this location had lots of photo opportunities.

Cons:
- We had arranged for a shuttle to pick us up from the wedding location as part of the package we had with Ayres.  We had several guests that booked rooms there (even some that could have driven home, but I mentioned it would be a late wedding, open bar, might as well enjoy the evening).  It was suppose to be a "Free" shuttle which I specifically talked to with the reservation staff.  Unfortunately the driver insisted on a $20 fee for each trip back and forth, and when I got to the hotel to discuss this fee, the driver said they didn't offer a complimentary shuttle to that wedding location.  (Note: We wanted Ayres not only because the staff before were very helpful, but also the free shuttle service, which was in a handout provided.  Our wedding location even recommended Ayres because of this perk)  When I gave this driver the money, I noticed he put it in his own pocket.  This happened in the front lobby of the hotel, and thought it was strange that the employees would just stand there and argue with a groom about $20 destination fee... and then put the money into pocket.  So please watch out for this if you plan to get their "free" shuttle.

This place would have gotten a 5 star rating if not for this driver's attitude, and lack of professionalism.

Four stars based on combination of price and experience. Ayres is a boutique hotel (read 'no frequent traveler points or programs') with a nice but unhip restaurant and nice guest rooms. Internet is $10 a night and is not wireless. Not a particularly glamorous location (next to a McDonald's, Costco and a car dealership) but is 10 minutes from LAX and 10 from Manhattan Beach which is kind of a cool place.

edit: now that i've stayed here a dozen times, one benefit is that the matisse restaraunt (part of the hotel) is a great place. the same kitchen makes the bar food. it's excellent. the bleu cheese burger and housemade chips is well worth the $11. this is not barfood made by an angry young man hunched over a hotplate.

update: i'm giving them the 5ifth star. these are some of the friendliest people i've ever seen in the hospitality industry. yes, i'm here almost every week but they really really seem to care. i travel a lot. too much, really. the staff here compares with any four seasons. they're worth the price of admission. which, by the way, ain't bad.

I used to stay at this hotel on a regular basis, but the prices have increased to the point that I'll look elsewhere first. It's a beautiful place, but am I going to pay that much to sit right at the on/offramp of the 405?

We had a great stay here. This place is super duper clean. And the staff is very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

You feel that you stepped back into time with their old world decor. My daughter felt she was in a princess castle and had a great time just walking around the hotel.
