Went to the Halloween 2009 Party.
* The tickets were actually cheap way in advance, buy them early for less then half the price later.
* They way over sold the party
* The 1 Salsa class was canceled due to DJ not showing up
* Drinks were about 50% more then what i normally pay at the other over priced bars, but they were good
* DJ were ok, standard just playing music, very little else
* The group of people who showed up were from 20 to early 40s and for the most part attractive (ugh SJ just sucks)
* Very little rowdiness
Had a great time, would go again next year and might even try the New Years party. Definitely show up early or expect to wait in line.
What a great DJ!! I knew he was good by my friends recommendations and he surpassed our expectations. He knows how to play to the crowd and kept the party going. We interviewed 3 DJ's and he came across as the most professional and reasonably priced. Unlike the other DJ's he did not try and up-sell, everything was included for on comprehensive rate. On the day of he arrived early and made sure the system was set up at least one hour before any of the equipment was needed. During the party he kept on adapting the music to the crowd and modifying old music to a new tune. Just yesterday I had lunch with one of the groomsmen and he asked for Aykut's info for his own wedding-Enough said!
best party's supper good dj best time go to these party aykut you are the best .
THANK YOU
Aykut DJ'd our wedding and he was awesome! We had a pretty ethnically diverse crowd and he mixed up the the standard wedding classics fair, with some hip hop and lots of salsa and merengue in such a way that kept people dancing all night. Add to that the that he's a super-duper nice guy and great to work with so he gets 5 stars!
This should actually get NO stars. We heard about the "Halloween Ball at City Hall" and thought that it would be fun- international crowd, different kinds of music- what's not to love? This morning, we received a very poorly-written advisory "arrive no later than 9pm" email, even though the party started at 8pm. (What international partygoers arrive within an hour of the party starting anyway?!) We arrived BEFORE 9pm and were greeted by mobs of people forming a few lines. After getting our wristbands, we waited for 2 hours (!!!) in line before deciding to ditch after we realized we'd still have to probably wait another hour before entering the building. What a bunch of tards (I know, sorry for using that word, but it's true in this case) for hosting a ball in a fricking high security building without somehow getting more help from security. The Black & White Ball, some of which was held in City Hall, wasn't anything like this mess. Huge waste of $40 per person. BOOOOO!!!
AN UPDATE- I did email Aykut et al. & they apologized profusely and said they'd refund our money w/a check- and they actually did! They also explained what went haywire w/the last-minute security changes, which was apparently out of their hands too. So at least they were sympathetic.
Ugh! what was I thinking when I invited a whole bunch of my friends to a Mediterranean Nights event hosted by Aykut at Club Cocomo!!!
"$20"
"Wtf ok fine. "I'll pay it". At this point a few of my peeps were getting cold feet. I might have seen one of them run off to their car and jet...I'm kidding of course, but shit, I wish I did...
Ok, so we proceed to the venue and its practically empty at 11PM. "Oh God, this is gonna be interesting"
Middle Eastern/Mediterranean music spinning in the main room, courtesy of the talentless DJ Nader...Seriously, man, update your itunes playlist...your music sucks
Latin music was playing in the small back room, which accidentally happens to be a bit more filled then the main room. I wonder why?
I can shake my junk to some Latin beats, fo sho!
Ok, maybe I did too good of a job cuz in the span of 2 mins 2 nasty, sleezy, butt -grabbing dudes were trying their hardest to grind with me...Gross. So, I politely moved away and proceeded to dance with one of my friends, but no, that wasn't enough to shoo those sleez balls away...These guys were seriously gross. They kept grabbing almost every chick's ass they can see. WTF. Where's security?
The only highlight of the night was some redheaded belly dancer's performance...authentic? No? But who the hell cares at this point.
Aykut, you were better off running your restaurant on market.
