The curry at Ayame is awesome.  I've never tried anything else.  I usually order the chicken katsu curry with gyoza combo when I eat here.  The quality of the food is really good and the prices are very reasonable.  This is one of the places I go to satisfy my curry craving and make sure I eat at when in Kaneohe.

The restaurant is kinda small but is usually not too busy.  I've only had a wait a few times to get seated.  The service is good and the people are friendly.

Most Kaneohe residents are well aware of this community staple. Growing up on the windward side, and going to school right down the block, I am no stranger to the second string ramen-ya that is Ayame's.
This place is perfectly average. you could say, they have 3 stars down to a "t". Not bad by any means, but nothing really special about Ayame's. I have been a patron here for decades, and will continue to come here any time i'm craving ramen in Kaneohe.
Gotta love the combos. Shoyu ramen (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), curry of your choice. i go with mochiko chicken curry (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), and of course, gyoza (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).
Thank you Ayame's, for years of wonderfully average ramen. I'm a fan.

Here is an update and why they are losing 2 stars for this!  I normally get the Ayame Tea (I am a big iced tea fan) with my meal.  This time when I picked up my meal the chinese lady who was helping me was trying to pour my "to go" tea in secret.  She kept looking at me and trying to hide the container. HOWEVER, I did in fact see what she was pouring and it looked really familiar, almost like.....what a minute, that looks like Haleakala Iced Tea from the supermarket! SO, I went over to Foodland which is in the same shopping complex and bought me a gallon of it for maybe $3.00. (The Ayame Tea is $2.00 for a cup) OMG, it tastes Exactly the same! With the exception of two lemon slices at the bottom of my cup.  Seriously, can I buy a Starbucks coffee drink from Foodland, add some coffee beans to the bottom of a cup and call it "Eunice Cafe?" Unbelievable!

Probably the worst Ramen shop I've been to in Hawaii.

I love ramen, I love curry, and I love mabo tofu.  So that made seeing a Mabo tofu curry ramen on the menu exciting for me.  Ordered that and a side of gyoza.

Normally mabo tofu ramen is ramen with brother with mabo tofu poured over it (delicious).  I thought they would just add curry to the mix.  I was wrong.  It came out on a slightly raised edges plate, with just noodles , curry and mabo tofu, no ramen broth.  It was basically like getting mabo tofu curry rice but with noodles instead of rice.  The noodles wer't even good either, I felt like I was eating spaghetti noodles compared to my friends ramen noodles and the curry was box curry. I figured if your specialty was curry, then at least make your own curry. Overall I was hungry after golfing all day so I ate most of it, but would never go back there and order that again.

The reason why this place gets one star is because the service wasn't even good.  Before we ordered, we heard the waiter give some attitude to another family int he restaurant and didn't even say anything to us when we were there.  Took our order silently, gave us our food, then we had to go up and pay for the bill.  idk if he was having a bad day or just didn't like us.  I guess if you're a regular here, he talks to you according to the other reviews.

This place is located in the windward city shopping center in the isle between L&L and Baskin Robins if you are traveling down Kaneohe Bay drive. The SEAFOOD COMBINATION here is the bomb! Comes with great curry sauce.

    * Excellent price for the quality of food served

    * Great atmosphere

    * Nice sit down family restaurant

    * Excellent service

    DOWNSIDES

Service was good but the curry tasted like the bar packets I buy from Longs--  Vermont curry or Golden Curry box mix.  Very disappointed.  The rice was white they fill the entire plate end to end, did not have a choice of brown.  The place was definitely Chinese, not zen here.  They have a tv to ruin the atmosphere.  The eggplant curry came and it was so deep fried that I had indigestion afterwards, just 6 little pieces.  The chicken katsu curry was bad too, oily and gave my friend a bad taste afterwards.  Best bet is to walk a little further to get Chao Phya Thai instead.

I like their ramen because it's cheap and close to my house.
I agree with the people who got their curry, I'd never order it again.
My usual order is the charsu udon... soooo good.

    Food: 3/5
    Price: 5/5
    Service: 3/5
    Organization: 4/5
    Layout: 5/5
    Atmosphere: 5/5

Okay, so lets start this review off! Been a while since I've sat down to write one up and actually, I haven't been able to explore as much as I would have liked but here goes a review for a ramen restaurant that my family used to visit quite a lot.

So the food and pricing are average. Nothing spectacular and no great savings or deals, but definitely something that will comfort you on one of those down days. And honestly, who doesn't like a combination of curry, gyoza, and ramen to just make you feel good before you take a hot shower and go to bed? The combination meals are a great way to get everything in for a decent price. I was able to get a small wonton ramen, a mini croquette curry, and 4 piece gyoza for $10.75. Overall, not too bad. The gyoza was really good and so was the ramen. Curry was average.

Service was not really engaging but then again, would you be if you were doing the night shift and had to deal with a few straggling customers when all you want to do is go home and sleep after pulling an 8 hour shift or longer? I know I've had those days. He was prompt to our needs but not exactly going out of his way to be friendly. Once again, I might recommend going before 8pm that way they still have some energy left to give more of a smile. The food was brought out promptly so thankfully no lag (yay!) so organization gets a nice 4/5.

The layout and atmosphere weren't that bad either. I mean, there's enough room to move around and to fit a decent crowd in. The TV was playing some crime solving series so that kept me entertained between bites and bits and pieces of conversations me the boyfriend were having.

Overall, not the best best ramen place in the world but I'm not a complex person and really, when it comes down to it, food is food. As long as I don't get the runs after, we're all good. But if I am going to be rating this accurately, it is your average ramen place to go to.

    100% Chinese.
What a Fake Rip-Off Mediocre Ramen!

    The Curry was Bon-Curry.

    http://www.japancentre...

Bon-Curry is already made curry in a pacage you just heated-up for 3 minuts that you can buy it for 2 bucks.

Why I had to pay for 8 bucks for the Crap!

    PIECE OF SHIT!

Ayame used to be the yokuzuna until Sumo Ramen & Curry easily pushed it out of the dohyo using the okuridashi technique.  And now that Ayame is getting a little older, even though it's still highly regarded, it's time to face the kakusage to Ozeki.

Everything was good, but the food was not as great as I remember it being in the past.  The wait staff was friendly, the food came out quickly, and the dining room and kitchen were both impeccably clean.  And, from their appearance and taste, I could even tell that the fried items were cooked in very clean oil.  There seemed to be very good attention to detail, but the flavor was just lacking...something.  MSG, maybe?  I'm not quite sure, but it didn't jump out and give my tastebuds the old harite slap technique.

Sumo Ramen will receive a kinboshi and the kakuage to Yokuzuna.

I ordered some vegetable curry from them, and was disappointed to find it was the same taste and everything from the Golden Curry packets you can find in the grocery store. Exactly like it. Granted, it was still tasty, but I could have procured that at home.

The service was average, nothing to write home about.

The food is still just as good, cheap, quick and plentiful as when I originally wrote this review 2 weeks ago (lol) just had to share with you my dine-in experience and pics from last night.  Inexplicably, my sis comes for a short visit from the mainland and where does she want to eat dinner?  Here!  Why? you ask... their fried rice of course!  Check out the boat of tonkatsu and fried rice:
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Ok, so we show up and find our other two companions have just arrived and are already sitting down.  I kid you not, the moment my sis and I plop our asses on the seats the waitress/owner lady comes up and says "are you ready to order YET?" I can't help but burst into laughter.  I don't even have a menu... she grabs the menus and hands them to us and says again "are you ready to order YET?"  Again... laughter while my sis agonizes over whether our food will be sabotaged because of my reaction.  Over the course of dinner though I realize she's not trying to be mean or rude I think she just comes off that way initially, she may just be lacking in some social etiquette. Last night, I wasn't even hungry but still enjoyed most of my wonton min:

A new discovery was their house special ramen ordered by someone at our table, the broth was spicy and delicious and had a variety of protien and seafood!  Next time, that's what i'm getting!

Feel like eating curry and you don't want to drive to town? You can settle for this and you won't feel bad about all the fuel you saved. For a couple bucks extra you can get some gyoza with your plate.

If given the choice, I wouldn't recommend having fried rice with your curry here, the curry stands on its own and the fried rice doesn't add to the experience.

One of our favorite Ramen shops in Kaneohe.  They have friendly service (if you come in more than twice Tiffany and James will know your name) and good, cheap comfort food.  The broth on the house special is a winner.

I go there to eat the mini ramen combo gyoza. It's good, nice hot and tasty. Haven't tried the many other selections but I'm sure they do good job on those also. The people are friendly and give advice on what to order.

i ended up conversing with one of the lady's in chinese since i couldn't seem to get the english speaking one's attention -_-

crap service but it is expected from a chinese-run establishment.  before i could finish telling her my order, the waitress walked off to do something else, wtf.  the chinese speaking only lady was really nice to refill our waters often.

    should've just went to L&L...

This place has never disappointed. I always eat the chicken katsu curry with 6 pc. gyoza. The curry is probaly the one you buy from the store but it's sometimes good when someone else cooks. Try to eat right after dinner because the wait can sometimes be crazy.

i love this place. my friend introduced me to it about 3+ years ago and i still go back to it every once in awhile. i love love love their pork fried rice and the gyoza is bomb.

i would recommend the ayame combo. about $10 dollars which is a reasonable price because it comes with gyoza, shoyu ramne, and a big scoop of the pork fried rice. yum. also the mapo tofu curry fried rice is yummy.
