In my younger days, I was hesitant to go to a nice salon to get my hair cut and styled. This is probably because during most of my childhood, I had some odd experiences with hair cuts. My mom usually whisked me off to Super Cuts where, among other things, they once cut my side burns really unevenly which resulted in some intense ridicule in the bathroom by a pair of fifth graders.

For about two years I sported a full on mushroom cut that dovetailed into a little ponytail at the back of my head. This was during an era when Nike sneakers that blinked LED lights when you walked were quite popular. Another time I overheard the stylist cutting my hair talking to one of her co-workers about some very inappropriate acts from the night before and when she remembered she was cutting a 10 year old's hair she looked at me and said, "You didn't hear that right?" Since she had a pair of scissors in her hands, I agreed I had heard nothing.

Owing to this trauma, I cut my own hair for a long time with the assistance of a salad bowl and about three mirrors strategically placed around the bathroom sink while my dad would pound on the door and ask me suspiciously what I was doing in the bathroom for 35 minutes. So it was a big step for me when I finally decided to go to Aya Salon and get my hair cut by someone who knew what they were doing. It's a very professional salon - clean, relaxed and the stylists are great.

Sora cut my hair and she was fantastic. I never realized how handsome I was until she finished with me. When I left the salon I felt like an irresistibly sexy Spanish underwear model. I think I will keep getting my hair cut here; it has a good vibe, Sora gave me an amazing haircut and the price was very reasonable. Jimmy, the owner and a well known stylist around town, knows quite a few dirty jokes about eggs.

Aya is conveniently located for me, but the only reason why I go is b/c of Sachiko. I've been going to her for 6 years and have a bunch of friends who have stuck w/ her too once I found her. Her head massages are amazing and she always cuts my hair exactly how I want it.
She is the perfect amount of chatter and relaxation (b/c you know sometimes you just want to read a trashy magazine) but she is so sweet and incredibly affordable for LA (my cut/bd is $60, but I've been going to her for 6 yrs and have referred a ton of ppl to her) I don't think it's much higher than that though!

First of all.....FREE parking in their own little parking lot in the back!!!! in Santa Monica that's something to be excited about.

Aya Salon is a beautiful, spa-like salon where you can be prepared to get pampered with great customer service and free tea or coffee.

Michelle was a great stylist -she was so sweet and definitely knew what she was doing. I was amazed at how she meticulously and patiently blow dried my thick long hair straight for 30 mins before she started cutting. *I* don't have the patience to do that to my hair!

I actually had my hair cut a week before but I didn't like it so she had the challenge of helping me "fix" it. She listened to what I wanted and what I did not like about my old haircut and did a great job giving me a satisfying look. She kept the length while evening out all the messy sections.

Definitely an extra perk that my hair cut was for the Thurs $20 special! I gave her card to my other friends and they also had great experiences at Aya.

Natisse is AMAZING! Have you ever wanted to go to a hair stylist that listens to you and makes you feel like you are working together to create the perfect cut for you. Well look no further.

My hair was insane....somehow the hair cut I received before created this weird flip at the ends that manifested in what I can only describe as an Edwardian collar. What started as a cute flip at the ends of my hair turned into an out of control night mare that had me convinced that this was my lot in life and I had to just accept it.

Natisse changed all of that. She listened to what I wanted and helped me to modified it based on the texture and natural direction of my curls. She used a dry cutting technique that helped her identify the direction of my curl so that instead of a crazy spiked collar I come out with sexy movement and great body and shine. The best part... it looked amazing when it grew out. Didn't matter what I did in the past the transitional stage always made me feel like my hair was battling against me...not with this girl. She took into account that I was growing my hair out and created a style that would maintain its fabulousness and it has!

Natisse is amazing with fabulous pink hair and the sweetest disposition she makes you feel at home. On the super bonus side....she is newer to the salon so her prices are totally reasonable.
The salon itself is pricey but Natisse is really affordable. Go now!

If you want a haircut that will look beautiful even when it grows out make an appointment with Natisse.

Natisse is very professional.  She begins with a discussion about what look you are going for and what style would work best with your bone structure.  I came in wanting a bob but since I have a heart-shaped face Natisse sweetly steered me away from a major mistake and guided me to the kick ass hair cut I have today.  :)

I no longer live in LA but visit every three months and because she dry cuts my hair it look great even when it's grown out...   I have referred many of my friends to Natisse and they have always come out with rave reviews.

I love love love love this girl and if you go see her, you too will know the glory of a Natisse Haircut :)

I went to Jimmy  (the owner of Aya) years ago, before he had this salon, and he gave me one of the best cuts of my life.
When I looked him up recently and found he's getting $250 now I decided to try one of his other stylists for my longish wavy but shapeless hair.
Natisse was personally trained by Jimmy and she is wonderful! She spent a lot of time and really listened to my concerns about my hair. I got a great cut without sacrificing too much length. I will be going back to see her in 8-10 weeks. Thanks Natisse!
Reasonable prices.  The salon is nice, and they even have Peet's coffee  :)

Well, I had an absolutely HORRIBLE experience here.
Now, this was 6-7 years ago, but I've never forgotten my nightmarish experience.
I have very fine, curly hair...and a lot of it. The woman that was cutting my hair was carrying on about how she is an "expert" with cutting and styling very fine hair. She made me feel relaxed and I felt like I should have confidence in her.
Well, when all was hacked and severed away by Misses Scissorhands, I looked in the mirror and staring back at me was a rooster with a mullet.
I was speechless...probably because I was on the verge of tears and I couldn't even choke a few words out.
What made it even worse (yet kinda funny, in a twisted way now) is that I had to get my picture taken for my employee ID the next day!!!

Perhaps this place has some excellent stylists, but I would advise everyone avoid the "Fine Hair Expert"!

Natisse is an amazing stylist. I've gone to her longer than any other stylist. I always get up from her seat confident in the way I look. She's great at understanding what you want without having to bring in a ton of photos. She makes getting my hair cut fun.

Aya Salon has a beautiful and peaceful ambiance-- it has a spa feel even though it's a hair Salon.  All of the staff was very friendly and I was offered tea when I walked in.  I really enjoyed the robe room, which made me feel very pampered.  Brittney is a hair genius, she is the reason I came to this salon.  She has been cutting my hair for almost two years (at her last salon) and I will not let anyone else touch my hair!  I'm so happy she's now in this beautiful location surrounded by other talented and friendly hairstylists.   Get your hair done by Brittney, you won't regret it!  I tell all my friends about her!

Nice place - I recommend Natisse.  She takes the time to listen and makes sure she understands the look you're going for.  Very different from other stylists that push forward with the look they have in mind and neglect to check in with their client to make sure they're satisfied. Her passion for her work, and her genuine want for her clients to be happy with their hair is evident.  Highly recommended~

I will not go into details. I will just simply say that I am fairly knowledgeable about hair. I have lived in NYC, Boston, and Los Angeles. Stay away from Shannon. She has this notion that she's a prima donna...and is not prepared to service or maintain a cut once you leave the salon. The receptionists complain that she's hardly there...she complains about them...the owner lets her do whatever. Bottom line, she cancelled on (me) before a big event. Best thing she ever did. I now go to an established salon in B. Hills where they are real pros!!!

I came here after both my sisters came out with amazing cuts by DARNELL! I live in SF, but whenever I come down to LA, i'm for sure coming back to Darnell for a style. The salon itself is very clean and pretty zen. Like I said, Darnell is AMAZING! I have very straight flat boring asian hair. He gave it movement, he managed to keep the length even though it seemed like he was cutting forever. In the end I had va va voom hair. If you are looking for SEXY hair go see Darnell! He rocks! I paid a little over $100 including tip -  well worth it!

I was referred to Julie here a few years ago and have been super happy with her and the salon.  They always work with my schedule and call if time opens up that's better for me.  I'm very happy with my hair and the cost is signficantly better than other high end salons.

I was in dire need of a haircut one Saturday afternoon and wandered into Aya around 5:30 without an appointment. Even though they were supposed to close at 6, the stylist generously stayed late to cut my hair and did an awesome job! Definitely one of the best haircuts I've had in a long time!

I had my hair done by Richard for a wedding. I brought 2 pictures of the updo I wanted. Curls going back to a loose updo. I ended up spending about $100 to get a normal tight, no frills french twist. I could have easily done that myself.
