We've been there twice for lunch, and I agree with the other rave reviews. Don't be put off by the strip mall location. The interior is beautiful and the food is great. I particularly loved the salad with the beets and asian pears. I had sushi and my husband had a hibachi dish. Food delish and service wonderful. Lately they've been running a Wednesday special--all rolls 30% percent off.
If you are disappointed that they don't have a liquor license, there is a liquor store at the opposite end of the strip mall, so just stop there first. -

We go to a hibachi restaurant for my son and my birthday every year. This was our first visit to Aya. As another reviewer stated, don't judge a book by its cover. Restaurants in strip malls generally aren't known for their ambiance, but the since was quite nice. Nice clean lines, and and interesting space. We made reservations and were immediately seated. The service was impeccable; the server was there whenever we needed something. Hibachi tables tend to be rather large, but that was not the case here. They had several tables that sat 8, with was perfect for our group of 6.
The food is pretty standard sushi and hibachi fare, but it was prepared and cooked perfectly. We had a couple sushi rolls and they were fantastic. I believe it was as good as sushi I've had in Hawaii. The chef was entertaining, and cooked the food just right. They had a tempura cheesecake, not cheesecake bites, but an entire slice dipped in tempura batter and fried. Sounds decadent, I know. That's because it ws decadent. My son and mocha and really likes that also.
The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because they don't have alcohol; it turns out it's BYOB, but I didn't realize that. We will definitely go back. -

We eat sushi in another local downtown restaurant as well as two others outside of the Carlisle area. I have to say, although the sushi was very good, we left hungry. Our rolls only had 3 or 4 pieces to each, which was not even enough for lunch. We would try the hibiachi but never go again for the sushi

I have eaten at Aya 2 times recently. Located in the shopping plaza with Giant, I have to say my expectations were guarded. I arrived a bit earlier than my dining companion, and the staff were absolutely welcoming. The interior is beautiful.
Both times I ate sushi, so I cannot speak to the Hibachi side of things. They have a wonderful mix of chef rolls and specialty rolls, and the amounts are generous, and each roll was fresh. The green apple roll contains calamari and green apple with eel sauce, and was interesting. The bingo roll is a bit of many things together, a pleasant surprise! I also liked the spicy yellowtail roll, and the Alaskan roll (fresh salmon and a healthy helping of avocado).
Service was responsive and excellent. I plan on returning. I would like to try the Hibachi or the Udon. -

Was blown away by the sushi when I went here with my fiance in late August. I had low expectations based on the location (when WILL I learn not to judge a book by the cover!?!), but the restaurant is beautiful inside, and our lunches were fantastic! The sushi was ridiculously fresh- absolutely top quality! Even things I don't usually go for (like sea urchin and mackerel) offered a pleasant surprise. Can't wait to go back!!!

Terrific new sushi and hibachi place in Carlisle. Very welcoming, clean and well decorated. Our wait staff was very attentive. The young lady who took our order did not speak English very well so she was extra careful and asked us to show her the menu if she could not understand our orders.... and then she took the time to repeat our orders to be certain that she took them down correctly.
The big hit was the sushi. This was fantastic sushi, very fresh, not too heavy, well prepared and presented. I've tried sushi all over Central PA and this has been the best I've had.
The service was a bit slow, which was fine for us because we were in no hurry. Being that it's only been open a week or so... I cannot vouch for the hibachi.I highly recommend the sushi here! -

Definitely a winner. They were out of both items I initially ordered (uni and spanish mackerel) but I ended up with the last little bit of uni and regular mackerel with my sashimi set. I thought it was very nice of them to customize it for me. As far as the quality of the fish it was excellent. I usually go to Aki in Chambersburg which is good, but the fish quality here is superior. This is a great find for a place like Carlisle.

TERRIFIC new Japanese hibachi & sushi place! BYOB, and the state liquor store (sake!) is in the same group of businesses. Wonderfully convenient.
While we didn't do the hibachi, our table had sashimi, sushi rolls, and udon soup. The sashimi (my order) was fantastic: extremely fresh, generous size pieces. Heaven. The rolls were great, and the udon soups were chock full of delicious stuff.
The simple exterior (it's in a strip mall just down from Giant Foods) belies a very well appointed, pleasant interior. Great ambiance.
The staff were extremely helpful. I am gluten intolerant (unfortunately I'm very sensitive), and the hostess and sushi chefs took the time to understand that knives and surfaces needed to be cleaned before prepping my food in order to avoid cross contamination. (It's terrible to be such a problem child at restaurants.) I was very grateful for their concern and for being able to have a wonderful dinner out, without getting sick!
Overall, it was an excellent dining experience. We will definitely return. -

Honestly.... I just don't know how they did it, but Neil, or Neal, made the best fried rice EVER...to the point, that my husband, who usually isn't a fan because it can be too 'heavy' ate all of it and raved about it. I guess if they give you a choice, ask for Neil, Neal, the hibachi chef if you have a choice. His preparation was much different than the previous chef's we had. Much lighter. The previous was good enough to rave about it, but it was definitely different. The sushi...just great. Subtle, tender flavors. Lovely. Also, Neal was quite the showman, and indulged our children in delightful hibachi antics...more than we have ever experienced before.
