Review from Brian S.

I was in a band that was booked here and it was a bit of a depressing experience. Whomever books definitely doesn't take genre into consideration as we were paired with some strange, howling hardcore band (we're more modern rock/powerpop).
The PA System wasn't very good either. Vocals were too low and the lead singer's mic completely cut out at one point. Did the place even have monitors? I'm not sure.
The bar was expensive ($3.00 for a water, really?) and the place was empty. Leaving the bands to do all the promotion is an unwise choice. Both my group (based over 90 minutes away from Axis) and the other one managed about a dozen people each, but that was definitely not enough as this cavernous club made our modest crowd look miniscule.
The staff was nice enough but the location - in the shadow of Giants Stadium - was literally in the middle of nowhere and had poor signage. I wouldn't ever perform here and certainly wouldn't drive up to hang out here. Sorry, but I've definitely experienced better. -

THIS JUST IN. AXIS LOUNGE IS CLOSING ITS DOORS AS OF SUNDAY 11/22
Once, in a gloriously decedant time we called the '90's there was a niteclub known as Tequila Joes. It was big, on the outside, but broken up in to smaller clubs inside, Each room had its own atmosphere, Rock, Hip Hop, 80's New Wave, Disco and even Swing all found a place here side by side. It was always an interesting night. And there there was Aldo's, a hole in the wall that was not much to look at, but great DJ's and friendly atmosphere in that darkness made it great fun for under a $5 cover.
But then, suddenly they were gone, and the nightlife scene took a turn for the worse for Jersey kids not wanting to deal with the high covers and high bar tabs of the city and then Axis rose as, and they attempted to take was great from both these places and try to make one sweet night spot.
Well thanks for trying. Before I go much further, I have to say I know some of the folks who run Axis, I consider them friendly aquaintences who I would gladly by a beer for, and I supported them when the club first opened, even after I moved into the city and had to take a bus there. But there was so much promise there that didn't get fulfilled. It was like there was lots of great ideas but no plans. And slowly the place devolved into a mishmash. "We should get pool tables" great and "we should have a good dance floor", well almost. "Hey Why don't we take a lot of this unused space and make a venue for live bands" Enterprising, but what are you gonna do about sound bleed from the dance floor right next door? Nothing, oh ok, not even a door between the rooms?
Then the bloom fell off the rose for even the owners, as they changed their attention to another venue they acquired. Leaving Axis undermaned and that actually helped a little, giving DJ Justjoe, who had not really had much pro experience before this, a chance to find his sound and make friday nights his there. Now if they would just stop the Midget tossing (no I am not kidding about that) -

So much potential gone to waste. The place always looks like a construction zone. It's just a big old mess. Such a shame.
