What a gem!  Axios is hands down one of the most delicious restaurants in Denver.  Affordable, fresh and delicious.  We got the traditional flatbread which is a crunchy flatbread with baked tomatos and olives and fresh feta cheese.  Freshest feta I've ever eaten.  We also got the Gyro, it comes with their potatatos but I subbed the Orzo pasta.  Both delicious.  The Gyro meat isn't sliced off a spicket, it's cooked to order so it's moist and flavorful, well worth the wait.
The only bad thing is that they carry Pepsi instead of Coke.  My personal preference, I hate Pepsi but they've assured me that they don't like Pepsi either and they're switching back to coke.
Everytime I leave I can't wait to go back.  Yum!

With juicy and complex gyros, cripsy falafel, delicious lamb shank, and a great beer selection, Axios is a TERRIBLE choice for people who hate food. But for those of us who enjoy ingesting tasty things, Axios is pure win.

All too often, foodies write off Greek food as the kind of fast food you'll find outside a college. And while there is that, you deserve it to your mouth to try out this full service Greek/Mediterranean spot. Service if great, food is amazing, it's in a fun little neighborhood, and the prices are very reasonable considering the amazing quality of the food.

So go to Axios. Do it.

I dont often eat greek food. Not because I dont like it, but because there's not a lot of greek restaurants around Denver. Axios was the best greek place I've been. Walking in, the staff was so friendly and seated us right away. The place is bright and designed with modern and classic elements with a touch of greek flare. The greek music adds to the experience. The candle on the table added a little romance.

Our waitress came over right away to see how we were and if we needed any help.  She brought water and fresh bread with dipping oil. I wish the bread had been a little warm but it was delicious none-the-less. They have a nice wine menu, a daily special menu, and the regular menu so lots of choices.

We started off with the Keftedes appetizer. These greek meatballs were so tender and spiced just right. The tomato sauce and the pitas they came with were so fresh and delicious.  The hubs got an Angouri Sour which is some bourbon drink with cucumbers. I tried a sip and it tasted refreshing and interesting with cucumber.

For the main course I tried the Moussaka. I've never had this but I always see Chef Gordon Ramsey helping greek restaurants become successful and it just looks so good. Let me tell you, it was so good, I think Chef would approve. The portion was huge so I'll be having leftovers today. The hubs got Shrimp Makaronada. It was grilled shrimp skewers on a bed of linguini noodles with a lemon clam sauce. I tried a bite and it was yum.

For dessert, we shared a chocolate mousse creation topped with shredded pastry dough and pistachios and a lemon ricotta on the side. Everything was so great and all the food was so light and fresh. The service was great. We will be back.

My family and I were seated at a wonderful window table immediately upon arriving by a most charming and beautiful hostess. We feasted on dolmades and saganaki for starters and moved on to salmon, gyros, salad and chicken kabobs. The servings were generous and the flavors phenomenal.  The Greek beers to wash it all down were quite uninspired though.

While our waiter was not the most attentive guy in the room, he was knowledgeable.
The other staff members kept the water glasses filled and cleared the table quickly between courses. A little too quickly at one point, as one of us was still eating.

Dessert was fantastic-a pastry concoction of petite figs in a warm spicy sauce topped with whipped cream and almonds.  Wonderful with coffee, especially on an unusual rainy night in Denver.

We can't wait to go back!

    Opa!

"I like Greek," as my sybaritic FGF used to drunkenly declare on a semi-regular basis. Well, Axios is the perfect Denver place to get your Greek thing on. Wonderfully authentic dishes and a choice selection of Greek wines does this place proud.

    DELICIOUS Greek food!

I came here last night with my friend, per his recommendation and was excited to try this place out.

We started with the spanakopita and the calamari. I pretty much could have eaten those two all night. Fluffy pastry dough and spinach, yum! I'm not much of a calamari fan, but this sauce the taste were unbelievable.

For dinner I had the lamb kebab and just like our appetizers it didn't disappoint. The lamb was seasoned perfectly and cooked medium which was amazing. No complaints here.

Another perk was greek music night! $10 with live music and fun people dancing and having a great time!

For the appetizer, we ordered Kolokithikeftedes.  My sweetie does not like zucchini, but he liked this dish.  The Chicken Mavrodaphne was phenomenal and the Pastitso was also very yummy.  Service was excellent.  Cannot wait to go back to try other menu items.

We were recently in town to go skiing and stopped at Axios on the way to the airport.  The food and atmosphere is great.  First we had the spanikopita.  It was nice and light, and not greasy at all which can happen a lot.  The filling was the right amount of spinach and cheese.  The gyro came with a lot of meat and the toppings were great.  The gyro came with a side of potatoes which were also very tasty.  We had the baklava for dessert, which was also delicious.  It had a nice sweet drizzle which also added to the presentation.

Axios has a nice modern decor and the entire staff was very accomodating.  We went for brunch and it had a good crowd for a Sunday afternoon.  I would recommend Axios to anyone.  OPA!

Maybe I don't appreciate truly delicious Greek food?  Maybe our waiter recommended all of the wrong things?

Based entirely on the waiter's recommendations, we started with the Saganaki. and enjoyed the fire, if not the actual cheese. I (uncreatively, but that's what the guy recommended) had a gyro, which was the one thing here that was really delicious.  My girlfriend had the Pepieres Yemistes (stuffed peppers), and they were blah.  It also should be mentioned that there are very few vegetarian options on the menu, so there's a chance he recommended the peppers just because it was his only option.

In contrast to another reviewing, my water glass was perpetually empty, which is my standard in good service.  Our waiter didn't really seem like he wanted to take the time to help us, which put a little bit of a negative spin on the experience.

It's not my favorite.  4-5 stars for the gyro 2 stars for the cheese, the peppers, and the service.  Average it out and a meh three star restaurant which we won't be visiting again anytime soon.

We visited Axios on the second night of restaurant week, excited to try something new.  After explaining to our server my dislike of dill, we ordered the saganaki and the gyro sliders, with the tzatiki on the side.  Our server returned a few minutes later to let us know they were out of saganaki - how do you run out of cheese?!  My husband asked if we could get the lamb ribs instead for a small upcharge and they were nice enough to allow it.  The lamb ribs were delicious - the highlight of the meal!  The meat fell right off the bone.  The gyro slider was good...it would have been better without the tzatiki on it, but I suffered through the dill.

For our entrees, we had the souvlaki and the lamb.  The souvlaki was a bit overcooked, but still good.  My husband really liked the lamb shank, but the sauce it was in was a bit too sweet for my tastes.  The orzo that the lamb came with was delicous though.

Now came dessert - the highlight of every meal.  I ordered the Torta Kataifi and my husband ordered the almond oli cake.  Disappointment struck again when our server returned to tell us they were out of the Torta.  We ordered the baklava, even though I am not a huge walnut fan.  I will say the baklava was a pleasant surprise.  The filo pastry was so light and crispy.  The almond oil cake was delicious!  It was citrusy and moist.

Since it was restaurant week, I will give them another chance - hoping they won't be out of things when we go back!

By the Beard of Zeus! Where French restaurant, Felix Brasserie, once stood comes a Greek invasion of delicious feats. For those uninitiated, you won't miss a beat with this exquisite addition to the highland scene. AXIOS beautifully renders its exterior with inviting colors and the inside marked by modern touches and a full serving of class.

The food? Yes, it's Greek scrumptiousness (plentiful with pita, feta, lamb, and more). What AXIOS adds is the tasteful language of quality and presentation. Non-Greek food believers will add an "os" to their last name after trying this fare. Ms.G and I dropped in for brunch; feasting on the Kalimera Pita, Greek Omelet, and one Banana Pancake. It was filling but not overly indulgent; just like this review. We can't wait to try the night life there but can only hope someone breaks out the bouzouki dancing.

Friends in the neighborhood introduced us to this place, we walked in without a reservation and the place was booked... but the owner Tully recognized my friend and squeezed another table onto the floor. The food was unlike anything Greek I've ever had, more accustomed to the Colfax-Cantose flavor of Greek food.
The food is of course good and will keep them open for years to come, but what really sticks out for me is the Grecian wine selection, Tully is very knowledgeable and taking a tour of the wine list with him is well worth it.

Greek food is probably in my top 3 favs as far as cuisines go so i was excited to try this place out.
I love the vibe and feel of this place. It's casual and warm at the same time.
Great service and awesome menu.  Of course I tried the saganaki! It was good but not the best I've ever had.  Fun presentation though.
Lots of good stuff to try here. Sandwiches, chicken dishes and some pasta as well. I tried the lamb meatball sandwich. Super tasty w/ a great fresh greek salad. I had a few bites of the chicken dish with red wine sauce. Awesome. Crispy greek taters...nuff said.
No dessert but I noticed the olive oil cake was popular.  I'll definitely be back to try the moussaka! It looked delicious.
Prices are fine for the quality of the food.
Only complaint is the over use of "opa"  It's getting a little played out IMHO. : )

Oh, Greek food.  My love for you is like a truck.

I can't even begin to explain the torrid love that Greek food and I share.  I could be eating the worst gyros that have ever been shaven from a whirling log of meat and I'd be happy.  Especially at 2 in the morning.

But AXIOS is another thing all together.  Denver has a few quality Greek places, but this is hands DOWN the best.  The ambiance is classy, the wait staff is great, the HUMMUS IS DELIVERED BY THE GODS.  Daily.

I know, cause I saw Hermes out back with a freshly made container of the chickpea dip.

Follow up your appetizer with a Greek salad.  Feta, olives, tart vinaigrette dressing...mouth watering.

Prices are good, drinks are delicious (the Greek Island Donkey is a nice, anise flavored spin on a Moscow Mule and the Kalamata Olive is like a greek dirty martini, nearly purple with olive juice), and the Souvlaki?  Wow.

I want to go back right now.

    And tomorrow.

My husband and I have lived in near Tennyson for nearly 2 years now and have tried nearly all of the food establishments in the area.  This is such a great addition to Tennyson and I know we will return several times.

The atmosphere is greatly improved from the French place that was in this location before.  The indoor improvements made the restaurant feel welcoming and warm while still having a modern feel.

We had made reservations that night online.  Before leaving the house we had an email confirmation that included a link to the website and menu should we want to look ahead.  The immediately knew our reservation and we were seated immediately in a great location to watch the snow fall while keeping warm. The service was prompt, I don't think my water glass was near empty the entire meal! The server was knowledgeable about the drink and food menus, he answers all of our questions and made great suggestions (outside of the greek beer my husband had, but he wanted to try something greek).

The realy reason the place gets 5 stars is the food!
We started with the Kalamari and Kolokithikeftedes.  The calamari were tender (not fried, thank goodness), fresh tasting and prepared with an amazing sauce and olive salad preparation that was perfect for dipping the bread into when the calamari is gone. The Kolokithikeftedes were prepared perfectly and a great complement to the Kalamari.

I had the lamb kebobs. I asked for them to be prepared medium and they were prepared exactly medium.  The meat was perfectly tender and seasoned to perfection. The vegetables that came with the lamb were also prepared perfectly, I cannot remember the last time I had such a decadent squash.

My friend had the Kima flatbread.  I had a slice and used the lamb sauce with my last piece of lamb and that I had found my greek heaven!  The Kima flatbread is quite rich so perhaps if I get it again I would split it and share something else with it. The bread in the flatbreads was nothing to write home about, but is also didn't overpower the ingredients that topped it, so I was fine with that.

My husband had the Souvlaki.  The seasoning made the meat what it was, it was prepared well and presented well, but could not compare to the lamb (but I generally prefer lamb to pork any day).  Though delicious, he definitely had food envy when he tried my lamb.

Our other friend had the Brizole.  I don't think I've ever seen someone protect their food so much.  He wouldn't give anyone a taste! So i cannot tell you how great it was, but there was nothing left on his plate, so I'm sure that tells you something!

We did get a chance to order dessert, but the almond olive oil cake will definitely be tried next time, and there will definitely be a next time!

Axios took over the space formerly held by Brasserie Felix (R.I.P). They did an excellent job changing the anonymous vibe of the mostly-open Felix floorplan, to a warm and intimate, romantic setting.

The food is VERY flavorful, and the spices used add a complex depth to their dishes that I haven't experienced from other greek restaurants before. I had a tomato soup prepared especially for that day, and could have licked the bowl clean if I'd been in private. It was that good. The shrimp pasta was delectable.

We also had red Greek wine for the first time, and my husband and I thought it was one of the best we'd ever tried. Our only complaint during an otherwise fabulous night of great food and good service was the oiled, limp potatoes that accompanied my husband's gyro. When you order a gyros sandwich for $10+, I think you're expecting crispy french fries, not soggy, limp potato wedges. All they'd need to do for a 5-star review from me for life, is crisp up their potatoes.

We had dinner here last Saturday night in celebration of a birthday.  We made reservations through open table, but it turns out that wasn't necessary because the place wasn't that busy.  It was surprisingly noisy for the amount of people that were there.  I can't imagine how loud it would be if it was truly packed.

    On to the food!

I ordered a Greek Island Donkey and my partner ordered a Greek beer.  My drink had ouzo, ginger-ale, and lime in it.  At first the ouzo was a little over powering, but as I drank more I noticed it less.  It also gave me a nice buzz so it must have been pretty strong.  The beer was beer.

We ordered the Saganaki as a starter.  It's a sheep's milk cheese that comes out to the table on flambe, that you put out with a half of a lemon.  It comes with grilled pita triangles to eat with.  This was pretty darn delicious, and pretty fun to eat with it being on fire and all.  I only wish that they gave you more pita bread with it, as it's a pretty strong cheese and I would have liked it a bit more with a bigger bread to cheese ratio.

For main courses I ordered the Chicken Mavrodaphne which was amazing.  An incredibly moist chicken breast in a red wine sauce with mushrooms.  It came with roasted potatoes that remained crispy despite being doused in the red wine sauce, as well as sauteed spinach.  All in all, this was an amazing dish and the portion was massive.

By comparison, my partners dish was not as good, especially in regards to the portion.  He ordered the Pastitso which was penne pasta in a cheesy cream sauce, with meat and tomatoes layered on top, followed by more of the pasta.  While it tasted pretty good, it looked pretty sad on the plate.  It was a the same size plate as what mine came on, but just had this little square of pasta casserole on it.  Thankfully my portion was so big I could share a bunch of it with out feeling cheated.

We were super full, so we ordered dessert to go.  An order of the Baklava, and the Roo's Triple Layer Chocolate Torte.  The baklava was very good, and came with some cinnamon spiced walnuts.  The chocolate torte was good, probably would have been better if we had eaten it in the restaurant instead of at home.  The cinnamon ganache on top was a little over powering for me.

I feel like we had to wait a little bit too long for our desserts and our check, especially considering that the place wasn't packed.   The bill came out to be a teeny bit over $70.  Considering we got two drinks, an appetizer, two entree's, and two desserts I'm pretty happy with that.  We will definitely be going back.

Very pleasant evening here with the Mister. We went for restaurant week and they sure don't skimp on the portions here! My husband was a big fan of the saganaki, which was perfectly flamed and delicious. The gyro sliders were also super cute and delicious. I had the lamb shank for dinner and it was phenomenal.  The meat fell off the bone and the tomato sauce was rich and delicious- perfectly complimented by the olive-tart orzo. My husband's salmon was a bit disappointing though as the flesh was charred to a crisp. We had originally ordered one Torta, one Olive Oil cake, but was told at 8 pm that they were out of the Torta. I'm not a big fan of baklava, so when I had to substitute it was a bit of a let down. Regardless we were so stuffed at the end, we only ate 2 bites of the dessert anyway. The olive oil cake was nice and moist, but the grapefruit? topping was too cloying. The baklava was nice and flaky, but again, I'm not really a fan of it in the first place.

The only issue we had was the floor tiles are SUPER slippery. I was wearing kitten heels and almost wiped out- there is absolutely no traction on those things! Make sure you wear grippy shoes here. :) Just a small thing I noticed.

Verdict: Very good. You will be filled to the brim with delicious Greek food. Just try to go earlier in the evening so items don't run out.

Came here with a group of 12 people for my birthday.  The service was really good - our waiter gave several recommendations - all of which were good - and was attentive, efficient and friendly.  We all had different dishes, and everyone was quite pleased.  The chef made a special dessert for me because I can not have wheat or dairy, and it was inventive, beautiful and delicious!  (poached figs with sabayon, carmelized pecans, and grilled mandarins with a bit of fig reduction)

The atmosphere is quite nice - lively but not too noisy, great lighting, and the bar was inviting even though we didn't sit there.

Great place. Great food and GREAT people.

My boyfriend (who is a first-generation Greek) was in town visiting this weekend.  We have been on the hunt for legit Greek food in Denver since I moved here from Detroit a few months ago.  Unfortunately, we haven't had much luck. Finding real tzatziki in Denver is like searching for the proverbial needle in the haystack.  I just don't understand how Melita gets away with ranch and cucumber?

That being said, AXIOS was amazing!  The owners and waitstaff were super friendly and even stopped on a crazy, busy night to talk to Evan  about Greece.  We sat at the bar and had a lot of fun drinking ouzo and watching some Denvernites experience saganaki for the first time.

Most importantly, the food was GREAT and their tzatziki was REAL. I had the Souvlaki which they easily substituted with chicken for me and Evan had Lamb Kabobs.  Both were cooked to perfection. I was realllly impressed (and relieved) with their Greek fare.

I can't wait to go back!

My goodness!  With so many restaurants in the Berkeley/Highlands area, where to go for dinner is always a good discussion.  Yelp, not any more for this girl!  The atmosphere is warm and inviting; the staff friendly, attentive and knowledgeable; and the food is super tasty, fresh and done well!

My friend moved in down the street and we decided to come here for brunch on Sunday.  I know, brunch at a Greek restaurant?! But WOW, it was delicious!!!  I had the Greek quiche and it was delightful!  Perfectly cooked, and the phyllo crust was crisp and perfect; not soggy!  The greens are a nice touch.  At the urging of our waitress, my friend and I also had a slice of the ciabatta french toast; a MUST HAVE!!!  I don't know what it was about it.  Maybe the perfect crust on the toast, the sweet ricotta, the balance with the citrus and greens, the perfect amount of syrup; its all a delectable combination.  Mind you, I usually detest it when restaurants put syrup on my french toast for me, but this was perfect!

I enjoyed brunch so much that we came back for dinner!  After munching on some really good bread and olive oil (as expected), we decided to split the greek grinder and the moussaka.  Yum; both were so good!  The greek grinder is all you would expect in meatball sub, and more.  The meatballs have good texture, great flavor (which is accentuated by the sauce), good melty cheese and perfect bread!  :)  Oh, but the moussaka!!! It is a rich dish (I definitely recommend sharing it with someone) but so good!  I love that they roast the eggplant, and then layer it.  Everything works so well in this dish; you won't be disappointed!

I have since been back and my friends and I enjoyed a good bottle of wine, some amazing hummus, and for dinner we had the Kima (meat) flatbread, the greek flatbread and the gyro.  Really, the hummus is amazing!  I know some do not like that it is accompanied not only by pita wedges (a must), but celery and carrots as well.  I actually like the veggies and find the crispy texture to compliment the hummus nicely.  I could always use more pita, but I just eat whatever hummus that is left with the bread; problem solved and I eat more of the yummy bread!  My Kima flatbread was really good.  The flatbread itself is not remarkable alone, but had a good crispy crust and held its own with the delicious toppings!  I was, however, surprised the gyro came wrapped in foil.  Yes, it does have a purpose, but I feel that maybe even using parchment paper or something instead would be more visually appealing.  But once you dive into it, you don't care about the foil AT ALL! The tzatziki sauce is SO good!  The meat and pita are marvelous, and man, the feta they use is amazing!  Its perfectly salty, tangy and creamy; I would eat it on ANYTHING!  Even a flip-flop (as Guy Fieri would say!).  I also have to comment that the swiss chard is top notch and the roasted potato wedges were perfectly crispy and seasoned well.  I haven't had enough room for dessert, but one day I will have the baklava (which my friend says is AMAZING) and the fig tart.  Perhaps next time I will only have dessert...

With all the times I have had the pleasure of eating here (and I drive over an hour to get here), I have always had great service and awesome food.  Keep up the good work and I will keep driving down every chance I get!  :)

I don't often give five stars to a place that has only been open for one day but in this case I'm making an exception. Why? Because AXIOS not only has excellent food (more about that in a bit) but the service was nearly perfect, right down to constantly filled water glasses, food courses spaced apart so that you never felt rushed nor did you feel like you were waiting, wine at the proper temperature, and a friendly visit from Telly, the owner, checking to make sure everything was all right.

I'm not an expert on Greek cuisine in part because the only experience I have ever had with Greek or Mediterranean food is a falafel sandwich from Garbanzo or casual meals at Pete's and Zorba's which are more like Greek Diners. AXIOS is upscale and offers Greek dishes that are, in my opinion, a step above the Greek Diner fare. Upscale but not snooty.

We arrived near the end of happy hour when the restaurant only had a few tables filled. The hostess had no problem with us taking the four-top in the corner window even though there were only two of us. Water and menus came immediately. Our server, Erin was friendly and confident even though we were there the day after their opening.

The food - as I said, excellent. We started with Organic Hummus with grilled Pita. The Pita was freshly made and warm. The Hummus, flavorful with a bit of lemon flavor. This is a great starter. Accompanied by a bottle of the house white wine for $20 Happy Hour price. Our main courses: Lamb Giouvets - roasted lamb shank in tomato lamb sauce with Greek orzo pasta. My husband dove in and loved it. I totally enjoyed the Pastitsio - pasta with greek cheeses, seasoned meat with bechamel cream sauce, baked. Sort of like Greek lasagna, this dish was so rich that I couldn't finish it all. I asked Erin to box the rest so savor at a later time. She returned and informed me that the top layer of my Pastitsio fell off so they just replaced it with another full serving to take home. She even gave me instructions on at what temperature to heat it.

I've been to a few restaurant openings and most of the time there are obvious kinks that need to be worked out. AXIOS was working like a well-oiled and very organized concert of front-of-house and kitchen staff.

Best of all - the Berkeley neighborhood, specifically Tennyson Street has so many good (and in some cases really good) restaurants for the locals. I believe that AXIOS has the potential to be a well known destination restaurant, not just for locals but for foodies all over town. For us it's worth the walk, for others it's more than worth the drive.

I came here for lunch with a co-worker who is addicted to Greek salads. We had a very satisfying lunch. She got the large Greek, and I had the small Greek with the soup of the day - Cream of Mushroom (yum yum yum!). Each salad came with a slice block of feta, and the herb vinaigrette was light and tasteful. The small Greek salad ($4) and soup ($3) was a-okay for me.

I heard their happy hour was pretty good - so I will have to come back and check out the apps and wine.

Great food, good ambience, wait staff is incredibly helpful and accomodating. Owner/Manager has stopped to talk to us both times we have been there. Good Uzo selection and great Gluten-Free menu options. Nice bar and fun Ompaah! atmosphere, watch for flaming dishes. Highly recommended

I think the biggest praise I can give this place it to say it's LEGIT!

The food was incredible, service was great, wine list was excpetional and focused on Greek offerings. My wife ordered the pastitsio and it's the second best she's ever had (short of Kyprida in Oia on Santorini and ahead of her Greek Aunts).

    Cannot wait to go back.

Axios is officially one of my new favorite restaurants in Denver! I honestly cannot say enough good things about this place. I'm not opposed to the greasy-spoon style of Greek food that we have here in Denver, but it's not something I will indulge in often because I like to keep it healthy most of the time. I was overwhelmed with delight to learn about Axios, which offers a Greek culinary experience. They try to use organic when possible and only choose the highest quality meats and oils, which is a bonus. All of that extra effort comes across in their food because it is OUTSTANDING. I was blown away by every single menu item I tried. The lentil soup and the dolmades are to die for! To top it all off, the service is excellent, the wine menu is impressive, and the ambiance is very pleasing. I cannot wait to go back!

AXIOS-HINTS OF PROMISE WRAPPED IN ALUMINUM

My first review will be of Axios, a Greek restaurant that opened a few months ago in the Highlands.
    Overall Score: 3.7/5
My first experience with Greek food was in college when I was being all collegeish and adventurous. I tried dolma and it tasted like mustard. I don't like mustard. However, in the years since then, I have discovered an insatiable love of lamb, and this, along with a widening palate, has drawn me back to Greek restaurants. So, it was with eagerness that I went to Axios for lunch last Monday.
    We started with an appetizer:
Spanakopita, a filo pastry stuffed with spinach and feta, oven baked until crisp and served with tzatziki. $8
It was very tasty. The pastry was not greasy or undercooked. It had a real nice flakiness that served as a great textual counterpart to the spinach and feta. The flavors blended really well, and the tzatziki was as good as I have had anywhere else. I would order this again, and so I give it a 5/5.
We then proceeded to the main course:
    I ordered the gyro. $9
My wife ordered the lamb burger. $12
    (See aforementioned weakness for lamb.)
Axios is a pricier restaurant, and therefore our expectations were fairly high. Plus, we had both enjoyed the appetizer, and so were really looking forward to our respective meals.
The gyro was served wrapped in foil on a plate. That's weird. I think there could be a more creative way of serving a gyro in a restaurant like that. I expect foil when I order a $5 gyro from a street vendor. Anyways, presentation matters, but it is not the most important part of any meal, of course. The gyro was good but forgettable. (In contrast, there's a Lebanese hole in the wall in London that I still crave, and I tear up when I consider the Halal guys in NYC). 3/5
The lamb burger had better presentation and it was enjoyable, but again, I don't feel any need to go back to Axios for it and it cost 12 bucks. 3/5
Just because we were playing the part of fancy critics, we ordered dessert and drinks afterwards:
Fig tart: kalamata figs macerated in mavrodaphne dessert wine, baked into a sourdough pie crust and finished with greek yogurt. $6
Almond olive oil cake: finished with powdered sugar and a citrus compote. $6
The fig tart was excellent. The presentation was nice and the flavor was wonderful. Thanks to the sweet tooth of my wife, I have sampled many a dessert in many a restaurant over the past few years, and I can easily say that this is a personal favorite. 5/5
The description of the almond olive oil cake came directly from the menu, as did all of the descriptions, and it leaves out a fairly significant ingredient: onions. I have never considered onions a citrus fruit, but there were certainly onions in the citrus compote. It didn't taste bad, but they were definitely noticeable and since onions are pretty rare on desserts, it probably deserves a mention. Anyways, this cake was again presented very nicely and the flavor was unique. The onion element gave an unexpected savory element to the already subdued sweetness of the almond flavoring. It was enjoyable both for its uniqueness as well as its flavor, but not a personal favorite. 4/5
Finally, the drinks. We had to try the ouzo because we never had before. They have a selection, and so we each tried a different one. Ouzo was described on the menu as an apertif that could also be enjoyed with a meal or as an after-dinner drink. The first ouzo was compared to grappa, and therefore I thought it would be a nice finish to the meal.
I had the Barbayanni because it was described as the boldest of their offerings with a serious kick. $6
My wife had the Tsolias because it represented the other end of the spectrum in price and was the one that was specifically compared to grappa. $4
Presentation was not good. My only experience with grappa is from Florence, and so perhaps it is unfair to make a comparison between the two but it is what it is. The waitress served the ouzo in short water glasses and because of the coloring of ouzo, it looked like she was serving us cloudy water. Again, we're in a restaurant putting itself forward as a higher-end take on the affordable lunch, so a little more is expected. And the taste wasn't good either. I wanted to taste just the ouzo and so asked for them to be served straight, but instead, they added some water to it (apparently judging us as lightweights). Therefore, the result was a watery licorice flavored drink that gave a disappointing finish to the meal. 2/5

I love Greek food so was very excited that Axios moved to my neighborhood. I really want to like this place but in order for me to like any restaurant there must be good service. The waiter was friendly enough but had no sense of urgency. We waited for a long while for two bottles of beer and our appetizer which was just the hummus plate and our hot food sat in the window for a long time so it was served lukewarm at best.  Based on the other review here the service is great so we might give it one more chance. I hope its better then or we have to give up.

Hungry, on a Monday night, and headed down Tennyson I noticed a new place where the bistro was a few months ago, so I decided to give it a try. For a Monday night and a brand-new place AXIOS was reasonably busy (I'd say about 1/4 of the tables were in use).

The new owners have redecorated in lots of reds and browns, so it looks a little dark, if very warm and friendly.  I don't know what I think Greek decor actually looks like, but this wouldn't have been my guess. About the only thing that did click in my brain as "Mediterranean" was the glassware. But that hardly matters because you're going there for the food and the service, right?

There are a lot of options on the menu, only about 1/3 or less of which I recognized at all, so I asked the waitress for advice. After asking me a little about what I might want (an entree or pasta) she suggested 4 or 5 options across the menu's price range.  I ended up with the soup of the day, onion with spinach and feta, and the Pastitsio. Both were quite tasty without being overly spiced and wonderfully aromatic. I just smelled them for a few moments after each dish arrived.  And unlike a lot of places the portions don't seem to be sized to bust a gut and yet still substantial enough to be filling.

The restaurant had a nice buzz from people and the anonymous greek-sounding background music, but not too loud. At least until a table near me received some sort of flaming cheese thing that arrived with 3 waiters and a loud shout of "OPA!" which was just a little startling. Just as well I didn't have a drink in my hand.

Nice dinner, a beer to wash it down, attentive service, and out of there for a bit under $30. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

Perfect! The food is 100% and the staff is phenomenal!  Also I have had some of the most incredible wines ever here. My Favorite so far is the lamb shank. I really can't say enough good things about AXIOS. I would give it 10 stars if I could.

This place is awesome! I have eaten here three times since they have been open and so far, each time has been great. I have tasted a few items, the hummus, the lamb, dolmades, and the mediterranean pasta, which in my favorite. Not only has the quality been great, the staff is friendly and accommodating and best of all, it is consistently good. For the quality and consistency to be this good, I believe and hope this place will be around for a long time.

I am willing to now raise my rating after going to Axios for dinner last night. For starters, our waiter was great- although I did notice him always recommending the higher priced wines on the menu when asked for a recommendation. Hmm...This time, we ordered the hummus appetizer (great hummus, now that I get a real taste), but like before, we still had to ask for more pita to go with it. And like the last time, we still found the accompanying carrot and celery sticks really pedestrian. My Mediterranean pasta was very good, although it wasn't particularly Greek. Also, it's really the first time I've seen such liberal use of capers in a Greek dish. It rendered the whole thing a bit too salty. In fact, the overall experience this time was very salty. But the wine and the company were good- my husband enjoyed his spanikopita and we did share a dessert that incorporated some spicy honey that we enjoyed. But where is the rice pudding? Every self-respecting Greek spot ought to have rice pudding, right??? Our waiter did bring us ouzo shots at the end of the meal, which was fine, but not necessary. It was rather watered down. Overall, I really enjoyed this trip more than the last time, so I raised my rating a star. But I still don't think it's an amazing place. Hopefully, they will keep improving and maybe add a few upgrades.
