Crowded, a bit overpriced. Quality of the food was better than I expected.

It's my fault for ordering crab cakes from somewhere in Minnesota. But then, they shouldn't advertise Jumbo Lump, Maryland style crab cakes if all they have to serve is crab flavored bread.
Other people's food looked good. And the service was nice. But don't get the crab cakes... -

Used to be a great meet up place and food was outstanding. Since the sale and transfer of ownership we have found this place to slip swiftly & steadily. I have given many opportunities for them to redeem themselves but from what I understand to be true even the (LONG TIME) staff don't care to work there anymore. Linda and Chuck, we miss you! :\

Very hunting lodge-esque with the antler chandeliers and dark walls and curtains. The kind of place where the big boys have their fancy business lunches while they drink scotch and discuss politics.
Also, where my husband and I went for lunch when we needed a mid-day break. Yeah, we average folks are welcome here too. Don't let the decor fool you, because the prices are very reasonable for the quality of food.
Softball sized popovers start your meal and be sure to try the maple butter - yum yum! I had the lunch special of half a BLT with avocado and a cup of soup - French onion with melty cheese oozing over the top. Our visit was on one of the first snowy days this winter and this meal was just what I needed to warm me up and get me through the rest of the day.
So what if I'm not a fancy business lady? I can go to Axel's and eat my popovers too! -

If you find yourself in the scary land of leased BMW's, nouveau riche and townhomes that is Southwest Suburbia and your looking for a nice meal, look no further than Axels.
Located in Chanhassen across from the dinner theatre, axels provides a classy somewhat upscale environment and great food.
Don't worry its not as meat markety as the spin off bonfire grilles. But do beware that they allow smoking in Carver County so don't wear anything that you plan to wear more than once.
The prime rib is delicious, get the loaded baked potato and the ceasar it even comes with Anchovies...who knew...in Chanhassen!
They have decent beer on tap and their Long Islands go nicely with the beef. lol.
$$$ look to spend between 50-60 bucks for two.
In the summer their patio area make a nice landing spot for a couple couples and a bottle of chilled chardonnay. -

I was expecting so much better.
I had the walleye (which they're supposedly known for and I usually love walleye), and my wife had prime rib. The baked potatoes were cold, the veggies cold and under done, the prime rib was cold, and the walleye was VERY fishy. I love walleye, but I couldn't even finish it since it was so bad. I've heard amazing things about this place, and would be willing to retry it if the price wasn't so high. -

I had the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was quite tasty. Not too salty like some country gravies can be. However, the temperature of the food could have been hotter. The eggs that came with the biscuits and gravy were somewhat dry but had a pretty good taste to them. I had a blood mary that was quite good. It was strong and was served with a mini bottle of Miller Lite, which I don't like, but still a nice touch. This was a Sunday brunch and the place was dead at about 2:00PM. Because there was not many people in the place the service was quite good.

My colleagues and I were on business travel and came her via suggestion. While here we great menu options and wonderful service. We split a necessary menu item being the Coco-Bull appetizer, which anyone will love. For dinner I got the Spicy Chicken Penne and had the Cajun Chicken with it. Both these items were great. My colleagues loved the beers they drank and their Bacon-wrapped Jumbo Sea Scallops and Grilled Halibut Milanese. Overall I'll say that when I go back to Chaska on business I'll certainly stop through here to get a nice dinner.
Additionally the environment was very cozy and the waitstaff wonderful. -

I love the specials on Sunday and Monday. $52 for dinner for two with a bottle of wine is right up my alley. The place is on the high end but does have a nice happy hour in the bar.
My only knock on this place is everytime I go there and have a meal about 1/2 the way thru I get tired. I don't know if it is the food, the dark atmosphere or what but I always want to take a nap after I leave. -

Wonderful food and service!!!!! Rather pricey but worth it!!!! The food comes in a half size which is more than enough and probably counts as at least 2 oversized servings, also the food is very rich and will fill you up quickly.

I was looking forward to this place but was unimpressed. We had a very nice server but service was very slow!! Food was over priced and not much variety. It's a nice atmosphere but probably won't be back

"Brunch, Popovers to DIE FOR" This is a place you'd take your Granny & Gramps, but even a Vegetarian like me can find a great Veggie Ravioli. But come on--- we all come for the popovers!!! Brunch, traditional style, how Minnesotan & proud of it are we?!?!

No air conditioning on a 90 degree day. They should have closed. The tile floors were slick with condensation. It was like skating to the table. The salads www warm, croutons mushy, service was slow. We would have left but were there with an elderly parent who was a major project to get in and out of a car. There was no offer of compensation for the miserable conditions.

I have heard this is under new ownership/management...Not sure if true or not, but the last time my husband and I ate at this place we thought it was not up to the general standard. We were very disappointed to say the least. We ate here end of October..So it goes right along with the most recent review that the food has definitely deteriorated in it's quality. Too bad since Chanhassen doesn't have any other upscale restaurants. I know I won't be buying my usualy gift cards from them this year. Don't want to do that to my friends.

I have never been disappointed with the food at Axels! One time I had a waitress who seemed a little unprofessional (she was standing 2 feet from our table complaining about another table and some other staff), but every other time has been great. I love love LOVE their french onion soup. Great steaks too. I went to Chicago a few months ago and ate at Mortons, and my bf and I both said it wasn't as good as Axels. Great place to come with groups.
