I've been going to Awesome for years! Love their amazing rolls (really creative!), great prices, and ESPECIALLY the friendly staff who are always smiling!
It's a great place especially for college students. They have a delicious and affordable lunch special which comes with miso and salad (7.95 on M-F 11 am to 3:30 pm) or try their awesome hours (3:30-6:30pm) with a completely discounted menu.
I personally love the awesome roll or anything else with salmon on it but there's so many flavors to choose from, I'm sure you'll find one to fall in love with! Even if you're vegetarian, their yellow monster roll is delish.
I definitely always leave with a more than full stomach and big freakin smile on my face!
Hope you'll try it and get the same satisfaction that I get every time I go! -

Lunch special - $7.95
Comes with Miso Soup & Salad
For Lent, I fasted all forms of social networking, thus I hadn't checked in, nor reviewed this place until now.
Anyway, I get a kick out of the fact that this place is located on the corner with a car repair shop. All the times I drove by, I remember mocking the name: Awesome? Next to a garage? Etc ...
Anyway, a work colleague turned me on because I told him how I liked Sushi Studio. After learning the history, it wasn't difficult to get me to try this place. I've since been here a few times and though I wouldn't classify it as "awesome", my taste buds and stomach feels comfortable saying that's it's pretty damned good.
I've only had their lunch specials and I have to admit, that I haven't had a bad piece of fish yet. The sashimi, sushi and hand rolls all have been decent size for lunch and as I've been fortunate enough to show up with a work colleague who gets a VIP discount everytime, it's worth every penny.
Get there early otherwise, seating gets tough. Maybe one of these nights I'll stop in for dinner but for now, it's a nice quick, inexpensive lunch stop for meListed in: Lunch in Long Beach

Solid 4 star and definitely worth the try.
The yellowtail sashimi with butter ponzu was simply put "Awesome".
And the service cannot be exaggerated on how welcoming and attentive they were.
I really appreciated it. In this economy having people who are thankful for you hard earned dollar is a comforting feeling. -

I love sushi but..... So when I moved to Long Beach I was looking for a Sushi spot close to home. I pass by Awesome Sushi frequently and finally had the chance to try it. I was Highly disappointed. My honest opinion is this is a two star at best sushi spot, I have found better places further away (2nd st.). Heres my unbiased opinion. I didn't compare this to top of the line sushi 'i've had but didn't expect this. : (
The Good:
Waiter was attentive
The Bad:
Sushi was very very warm
They broke a part when i lifted them from my plate(I had the 747, and caterpillar rolls)
Rolls were not packed in
The prices were not competitive by any means for the location
Albacore with butter ponzo sauce (yikes, very poorly cut, very thick, rubber)
Chefs please step up your game. Atleast to average. please.
After the two rolls and Sashimi I didn't want to try anything else.
Sorry awesome sushi, I had to save others from this place. -

Great happy hour! 3:30-6:30 Monday through Friday
Special rolls half off. We ate 6 rolls the last 2 weeks but I didn't have time to submit my reviews. Anyways, our happy hour consists of:
Awesome Roll- not that great.
Crunchy Roll- tastes great as usual.
Slot Machine Roll- very appetizing.
Vampire Roll- okay.
I Feel So Lucky- delicious
and another one that looks like fried Spicy tuna, but I forgot the name. I believe it deals with "sunny".
Came here 3 times, never disappointed in my visits, and Nina, the manager, she is very friendly. I once had a Chang bomb with her and she paid for it! :) -

Pretty yummy sushi!
The raw fish seems to be pretty fresh. It doesn't smell fishy like it's been frozen or old.
Happy hour is from 3:30 to 6:30. Pretty good deals. Half off on certain rolls. 1.50 for sashimi. N cheaper appetizers n of course happy hour for alcohol ;)
** a plus: they have many vegetarian options :) -

This is the second time that I have been to Awesome Sushi. Its on the corner of clark avenue and willow street and its very close to the 405 freeway. Its in a kind of strange location to get to if you are going to try and navigate there from the 405 freeway but you will find it if you get off at Lakewood.
The parking lot is shared with a tire store so there seems to be a crazy amount of parking which is a good thing but its kind of hard to figure out where to actually park which I suppose is a bad thing.
I had the lunch special for $7.95 and I could not have been happier with the results. The started me off with a salad and a miso soup which I devoured, and then they brought the main course which was a california roll and two scallop hand rolls. I thought the pieces of california roll where bigger than normal and I have put some of those down in my day.
The whole restaurant pretty much centers around the sushi bar with seating off to the side of the sushi bar and there is a back patio you can sit at as well. I like the feel of this place and its lots of fun. There are some locals which is usually a good sign and no weird vibes came out at me. I am coming back here for lunch soon! -

Long Beach, CA
Nice staff, friendly and casual atmosphere, and decently priced, fast sushi. While the menu offers all the standards of a sushi restaurant, I think the quality is a little higher than Sushi Boy. I had the sushi platter and the Awesome Roll. The sushi platter came with maybe eight nigiri pieces (including maguro, hamachi, amaebi, sake, albacore) and a spicy tuna roll. Some of the fish was a little stiff, but still flavorful. I like that the fish absolutely blanketed the small mound of rice. The Awesome Roll was topped with sliced jalapenos and a citrus sauce.
The sushi chef serving my side of the bar was very nice. He offered a new dish that he didn't have a name for yet--a shrimp chip like shell topped with spicy tuna and drizzled with a sweet sauce. And at the end of the meal, he offered sugared strawberries. My belly was happy. -

Went here Sunday night with my husband. We ordered 3 different cut rolls, Treasure, Spicy Tuna and Philly. They were all fresh and delicious, the service was attentive and very friendly.
The prices are also very good- and on Sundays you also get 20% off the entire menu! -

If this place was close to my house, i'd definitely be happy to come back for more. The staff is very friendly and there was no complaints about any of the sushi rolls that we ordered. Two of the rolls that i remembered we ordered was the awesome sushi roll (u have to order it if its named after the restaurant right?) and the red spider roll. Everything was tasty and tasted fresh. The waitress also offered dessert samples but we politely declined. Everyone is so nice and polite here, i like this spot.

First thoughts: "hmm..this is such an odd place for a restaurant.. why is it next to a smog shop..and a tutoring place?? what?"
Once inside: "Oh this is actually pretty nice. All the customers seems to know the chefs and waiters, that's always a good sign!"
Seeing the menu: "Holy crap it's happy hour?? 50% off?! Everything sounds good!"
Tastes food: "Oh dear.. sweet baby jesus." -

This place is name appropriately named! the sushi is fresh and delicious. Try the awesome roll..salmon inside, yellowtail out side w/ butter ponzu and fried garlic...wow! Amazing! They have traditional as well as sushi fusion. If it's not in season, it won't be served. They are friendly and the fish is fresh. I have been back already three times..

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Awesome Sushi is all kinds of awesome. Yeah, I know it's sort of in the middle of nowhere, but if you haven't been yet, you're missing out.
Of course it's ideal if you can cath the Awesome Hour, but even outside of Awesome Hour they have specials. 20% off on Mondays and huge beer specials on Thursdays.
What really makes Awesome Sushi stand out though is their unique sushi specialties. These aren't just California rolls with different sauces. No, just get the Velvet Voice or Chef Pat's special and you'll know what I'm talking about.Listed in: Cheap Livin' in OC and LB, Lunch Hour in Long Beach, Best Orange County Happy Hour…, Long Beach Cheap Eats, Dial 562-Sushi

Awesome Sushi is pretty awesome!
First off, it is placed in a pretty random place, right next to a Smog Shop, but hey, their sushi is pretty good. I would suggest going here during their happy hour because their food gets pretty pricey at regular price. However, their sushi is really good and you could definitely taste the quality of the sushi. I would definitely suggest getting the hot green tea with your order. It just makes the meal even better.
It is pretty small inside, but I think it is definitely worth it. I would come back again if I have a sushi craving (which is likely) :)Listed in: Asian Persuasion ^_^

Ive been meaning to try Awesome Sushi for a long time and yesterday was craving it bad.
Usually I go I Luv Sushi down the street but by coincidence, I was passing by and had to stop for a quick happy hour roll.
I tried the Awesome Roll and it was just not awesome... I thought it would havE been amazing hence its name of the restaurant and all... But was bland. Jalepenos were not spicy, not enough garlic, ponzu was not very zesty and the roll was small.
I'm going to come back to hopefully give a better review but until next time, I am going to stay faithful to my usual sushi stomping ground on Lakewood Blvd. -

Awesome Sushi, why are you so... awesome?
I've gone to many sushi places, and used to frequent Miyako just down the street from Awesome Sushi before Awesome Sushi opened up. I have only gone to Miyako a handful of times ever since Awesome opened around two years ago, I believe. Awesome Sushi became the place to go since then for amazing sushi, and I've tried many sushi places over the years and none are as good as Awesome.
For starters, they have a delicious, filling lunch special for $7.95. Includes miso soup, salad and you choose two out of 4 choices labeled A, B, C and D. I don't remember exactly what A and B are because I always choose C and D, C being 2 hand rolls and D being 1 cut roll, from a list of 10 or so rolls to choose from. You can also stack your choice (getting just two orders of one letter), I've usually only done this with the C. The miso soup actually has a good flavor (most miso soup I've had didn't really have much of a taste to it), and the salads pretty damn good as well.
So the lunch specials are good yeah, but what you really want is to go during awesome hour, which is monday-friday from 3:30-6:30. Half off select rolls, and there's a great selection to choose from! My top recommendations in no particular order are the following:
- Awesome Roll
- Brilliant Roll
- Fire Ant
- Crazy Cal
- I Feel So Lucky Roll
- Tokyo Sun
They swap out rolls from time to time so some of the above may not be on the list if it's been a while since this reviews writing. The others are wonderful as well, pretty sure I've tried all the choices, but the ones listed above are my personal favorites. After chowing down on sushi get yourself some dessert too! You cannot go wrong with the cheesecake tempura, fried banana, or green tea ice cream. They're all very tasty, and reasonably priced. Give them a try! There are also other desserts not listed on the menu, so if you're curious enough ask them about what desserts they have. They have tiramisu for example not listed on the menu, and that ones really tasty too!
Aside from the food being terrific, the staff is full of great, friendly people. Always a pleasure to have a nice conversation with the waiters/waitresses and sushi chefs.
Summary for anyone who doesn't want to read everything:
- Great food
- Great service, friendly staff
- Reasonably priced
- Go eat at Awesome! -

I've learn to slowly try sushi but havent crossed that border just yet!
Awesome Sushi is located in a ODD area next to a smog place, therefore parking sucks specially during lunch time and expect to wait for a table it gets ridiculously packed, but the wait is worth it. They have so many choices at great prices and the food is exquisite. Great service as well! -

Review from Karey R.
Awesome Sushi is indeed Awesome. The service, on the other hand is a sketchy experience. They are a newer business and the last few times we have been there we have gotten a trainee and the bill has been wrong or we didn't get all of our food, there is always something. I was hoping that things would even out, but after 3 visits, the service has always been off. There are 2 people on the floor that are spectacular though, and they try their best to pick up the slack and get people what they need. The only reason we keep coming back is for the awesome sushi and those 2 people who we know we can rely on.
Definitely come for the Happy Hour Specials, which are now all day on Sunday! The 20% off helps because once you try their rolls you will keep ordering more. I love the Crunch roll, and Mr. R. loves the sashimi. We both love the red spider roll. Our kids love the tempura green tea ice cream! -

Went there for dinner last night. Love the Awesome roll. If u are fan of butter, you have to try it. Save room for dessert, too. Banana creme brulee had perfect caramelize sugar on top of layer of sliced banana and creamy custard. Definitely will go back again.

Long Beach, CA
I've driven past this place numerous times on my way to work and always in a passing thought wondered how they stayed in business. This is because the place is in a tiny shopping center next to a fairly large smog check center, and I don't know about you but the thought of oil changes and fish do not seem very appetizing. My friend said it made him think his sushi would taste like tire. However after looking at the pictures on yelp we decided we had to try it. Sundays are 20% off the entire menu. Five stars because I cannot think of any way it could have been better for what it was, unpretentious fun rolls.

Review from Snarky R.
Huntington Beach, CA
I have mixed feelings about Awesome Sushi, but overall I gave it 4 stars because 1) it has a selection of vegetarian items!!, 2) the service was superb, and 3) the price was very affordable, especially during Happy Hour. Seriously, don't pay full price - go during happy hour if you can.
I ordered the Agedashi Tofu for an appetizer. It's not served in the traditional way (the fried tofu being on a plate, with spicy plum/sweet sauce on the side) but it was in a ginger broth. Really delicious! I was surprised, considering it didn't look anything like the Agedashi Tofu I've had from other places. Well done.
Next was the Yellow monster roll. O.M.G. It's worth it to go back just for that roll! Carrot, pumpkin, mango, and tempura?? Yes please! Simply delicious. I ordered a second one before I left it was so good.
Finally, I had the Green power roll. DO NOT ORDER THIS ROLL. Oh my god. I felt bad because the staff gave us Happy Hour pricing, even though my partner and I arrived maybe 5 minutes after it ended, so I felt obligated to eat this roll and not waste anything. But YUCK. The worst roll I have ever had in my life. Recalling the disgusting flavor makes me want to reconsider my 4-star rating. The ingredients sounded so good (Cucumber, kaiware, asparagus, jalapeno, avocado, yuzu soy sauce), but wow. Definitely the worst thing I've eaten in a long time. I shudder to remember it.
A final point - the location is.... well. A little odd? It's crammed into a corner of this kind of grungy locale, and there was definitely a dude at the bar chugging beer out of the tap. So, um, not very classy? That alone put me off going back. It wasn't as comfortable as I'm used to feeling at a sushi joint.
But overall, good stuff. Would go back for the Yellow Monster Roll and to try their other vegetarian options, but am concerned for the location and the horribleness of the Green Power Roll. Will just have to tread lightly. -

This place is awesome. I don't understand the negative reviews because I've been there around 3 times now and every time the sushi was great. Minus one star for the fact that it is a bit expensive.
However, I found that their rolls are definitely some of the more flavorful ones that I have had amongst the places in Long Beach. I'm definitely new to this sushi spot so I'll report back later with additional commentary, but for now, I would definitely go back when money is not a factor and good flavor IS. -

I've eaten here three times, always seated quickly and the food was brought out relatively fast considering how packed this place gets and that's what bugs
me, the place is too small and I literally felt like I was part of the other guests conversations. Not a place to go if you want elbow room or privacy. -

While eating my sushi, I began to wonder... what is so awesome about this? Basically, Awesome sushi is to Sushi Kinoya what Taco Bell is to Chipotle. Maybe a little cheaper monetarily, but a lot cheaper atmosphere, quality and flavor.
There's no reason to eat here when Sushi Kinoya is so close by. -

The sushi here is great, the staff here are very friendly and attentive. I enjoy coming here for sit down dining and take out. This is my preferred sushi place for lunch as well because its so close to my work. They always greet everyone upon coming in and acknowledge and thank you on the way out. It's cool because on thursdays they have these specials with the beer tower and sake bombs and when someone does a sake bomb the servers do a countdown and gets everyone else in the restaurant to cheer and get all pumped up for that person to take their sake bomb. The prices are very reasonable, they have lunch specials and happy hour sushi specials too.

This place is simply AWESOME!!!
We went to Long Beach for trade show and were looking for a good place to eat dinner. We were craving for sushi and found this place not very far from the hotel we stay at. We read the review and they look pretty good so we went down there to have dinner and we are so glad we did. Food was delicious. Its one of the best sushi we ever have. The people working there are very friendly and take good care of us. If I go down to Long Beach again, I will definitely go back here. -

Do yourself a favor and don't even bother! I just went to this place yesterday because my boyfriend was craving sushi and sashimi. Let's just say we should have went to sushi on fire rather than trying this place out. I LOVE SUSHI ON FIRE! As for this spot...yuck. I ordered sashimi and the snowcrab roll and none of it was cold or at least chilled! mmmm, warm fish! (being sarcastic)
I was really hoping to have found another good sushi place but unfortunately, under my definition, room temp and brown yellow tail does not mean good at all! What upsets me the most is how they are ever able to serve any of their customers such poor quality fish. -

Long Beach, CA
Only one reason why its not a 5 star, the selection!!! They don't really have traditional rolls here, and its all very.....exotic I suppose. It seems like they just wanted wild creations.
That being said, the sushi is fresh and flavorful!! I LOVE it! Iv never had any of their regular, nonsushi food so Im not sure how that is. Don't let the location fool you, its good quality food.Their mochi is good too! -
Review from Laura C.
Long Beach, CA
I love love love love love Awesome Sushi! Although this is my first ever sushi bar that I have been to, I have to say that it is definitely worth the money. I love their sashimi! My friend has recommended me a lot of different kinds of sushi rolls and sashimi and I have fallen in love with most of them.
If it is your first time going there, I suggest you get the Brilliant Roll and the I Feel So Lucky Roll. Those two are definitely to die for! I also love their Seared Tuna sashimi and the Salmon sashimi. Mmmmmm, just talking about their delicious food already makes my mouth water.
The service is great! I have gone there so many times and now one of my favorite waiters has remembered me! Everyone is as polite as can be and they take care of you really well. I think it is definitely worth the money. They really do know how to take good care of their customers and it keeps me coming back for more.
If you are a first timer or plan on going there a lot, it is best if you go during happy hour (3:30-6:30), sometimes they do extend the hours a little bit, but don't quote me on it. The deal is great since you get 50% off some of the rolls and the sashimi is cheap as well.
I will definitely keep coming here because everyone is nice and I love them and their food is good as well. The whole atmosphere is wonderful whether it be a group hangout or a date. Although the atmosphere might be a bit "loud" and they have music playing, I always feel like I am in my own little bubble and I don't hear the noises anymore.
Also, although there is a smog shop next door, I don't see it as anything. Awesome Sushi is great in itself. Being next to a smog shop doesn't sway my perception of what a wonderful place Awesome Sushi is. Once you are in there, you forget about it anyways.
So lastly, what I am saying is that you should definitely try it at least once. Just order something, AT LEAST one roll and a couple of sashimis during happy hour. I am sure it will not disappoint you. (: -
Review from Emily F.
Temple City, CA
My new favorite sushi spot! It's been tough to find a sushi restaurant because I've become vegetarian. There are tons of quality places that only serve cucumber rolls as their veggie option.
Awesome Sushi has got a whole category dedicated to veggie rolls and they're extremely creative with what they've got! I feel super happy after having a meal here because it was so tasty.
The best one I've tried so far is the Yellow Monster roll. It's filled with pumpkin and carrot tempura, and topped with a slice of mango and spicy sweet sauce. It's one of the heavier veggie rolls, but the flavor of the mango has such a lovely effect on the whole roll.
Another one I really like is the Green Power roll. This one is entirely refreshing as there's no fried bits in it. It has asparagus, kaiware sprouts, cucumber, jalapeno, and it's topped with a thin slice of avocado with a splash of yuzu soy sauce. I love that this place doesn't drench the rolls with sauce. The sauce is really there to complement the taste of the ingredients. This roll is really light and the combination of asparagus and kaiware is delicious!
My boyfriend has had the Slot Machine and Earthquake and seemed very pleased. He also always orders a salmon skin handroll, which he loves because it's so crispy.
I had Annie serve us today and she is super friendly. She's quick to offer refills and remembered that I mentioned I didn't like my tea scalding hot. Ask for Annie!
I can't vouch for the fish, but 5 stars for the awesome vegetarian options. They're beyond what I imagined veggie sushi to be. I only came in expecting to get kanpyo maki.
Oh yeah, happy hour is M-F 3:30-6:30 PM I believe. Give or take half an hour. They have a ton of rolls on a select menu which are all 50% off. Our total bill for 3 rolls came out to be $17!
